Episode 28 of The Reed Morin Show is a podcast interview with David Satter, the man who exposed Vladimir Putin for his role in the 1999 Russian Apartment bombing. These bombings solidified Putin as the defacto leader of Russia, at a time where his ascension to power was quickly falling apart. David Satter, a journalist, author, historian, and foreign policy expert –– who is widely regarded as one of the world’s preeminent experts on Vladimir Putin / Russia. In December 2013, after years of exclusive reporting on Putin’s crimes against humanity, David became the first Western Journalist ever banned from Russia (by their government) in the post-Cold War era. From 1976 until his banishment in 2013, David spent the majority of his time living in the Soviet Union (which later became Russia) while working as the Moscow Correspondent for the Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal. He is perhaps best known as the first researcher who claimed that Vladimir Putin and Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) were behind the 1999 Russian Apartment Bombings, the 2002 Nord-Ost Siege, and the 2004 Beslan School Attack. In 1984, Yuri Bezmenov, a former KGB secret agent gave an interview to G. Edward Griffin, titled 'Soviet Subversion of the Free World Press'. In the interview, Bezmenov explained the methods used by the KGB for the gradual subversion of the political system of the United States. He emphasized the main emphasis of the KGB is not in the area of intelligence at all. Only about 15% of time, money, and manpower is spent on espionage and such. The other 85% is a slow process which we call either ideological subversion or active measures… or psychological warfare. Mikhail Viktorovich Zygar (Russian: Михаил Викторович Зыгарь; born 31 January 1981) is a Russian born journalist, writer and filmmaker, and the founding editor-in-chief of Russian news TV-channel Dozhd (2010–2015), which halted operations on 3 March 2022. Under Zygar's leadership, Dozhd provided an alternative to Kremlin-controlled federal TV channels by focusing on news content and giving a platform to opposition voices. The channel's coverage of politically sensitive issues, like the Moscow street protests in 2011 and 2012 as well as the conflict in Ukraine, has been dramatically different from the official coverage by Russia's national television stations.[1] Zygar is also the author of the book All the Kremlin's Men (2017), the history of Putin's Russia, based on interviews with Russian politicians from Putin's inner circle.
