I was standing at the Mr. Olympia bodybuilding competition in Las Vegas with my buddy Kris Gethin last month, looking at all the exhibitor promising things like DNA testing and weight loss pills...

When I was suddenly reminded of something I heard years ago:

That there are no new ideas.

Despite endless rounds of "promising new" gimmicks that want you to believe you can pop a pill or get a shot and melt away the fat in six seconds, there's no getting around your body's need for real food, water, and sleep for lasting weight loss and optimal wellness.

Real food, water, and sleep are what we've needed for all of humanity's existence.

It's the proper human diet. It's what we're designed for. It's NOT new!

And even high-quality supplements like the kind Code Red offers don't change that.

Do I think high-quality supplements have value?

Absolutely, to a point.

Do I think you can out-supplement a bad diet?

Absolutely NOT.

And to say otherwise is pretty insulting to Rebels like Lory Stobart, who lost 205 pounds in 18 months.

Lory didn't lose all that weight because she took Code Red D3. She lost all that weight and is keeping it off because she did the work.

Same for Andrea Dell, who lost 28 pounds in less than two months with Code Red and has kept it off for over seven years and counting. She's maintained for so long because she's doing the work, not because she's taking Code Red Magnesium.

So despite what the latest gimmicky promises provoke you into believing...despite a fresh round of claims about yet another magic pill that's supposed to "help with weight loss"...

If you've ever wondered how to find a health care provider who will support your Code Red Lifestyle™, this is the podcast for you.

My sister, Cari, has a master’s degree in nursing education and has taught at nursing school. She's also worked as a nurse for decades.

All that means she's been around a lot of primary care providers. Some she liked working with, and some she didn't, because some acted like dictators instead of doctors.

Look, your doctor isn't your dictator. Your doctor is a partner in your health journey. If they're not acting like it, that's a red flag.

Plus, though I’m a big believer in the medical establishment for many reasons, weight loss is not one of them! 

The majority of health care providers today are overweight and metabolically sick.

When an overweight, sick physician tells YOU how to lose weight, while also questioning and criticizing your lifestyle of real food, water, and sleep, again, it's probably time for a different primary care provider.

I wish I had a dollar for every time someone asked me this. Can you cheat on Code Red? Because all the other weight loss programs let you cheat! So what's the big deal, right? Well, the reasons might shock you!

Even though all other programs allow cheat meals or cheat foods, Code Red doesn't do this. We don't believe in cheat meals because it is not worth it. People never make any progress with this type of mindset and behavior.

The stakes are too high to have a cheat meal or, God forbid, a cheat day. We are dealing with people who are metabolically sick, people with type 2 diabetes, people who have failed on all other weight loss programs, or are just on the verge of a life-altering disease. This is about our health, we can't afford to not be serious about it by having cheat foods and cheat meals attitude.

The major problem with cheat foods and the weight loss programs that have them is that they don't address the sugar addiction crisis that we have as a people. The heart of the problem with weight is sugar addiction, and having cheat foods doesn't help at all. That's why we don't do it at Code Red.

So many times, we put things off. We say, "oh, I'll get to it tomorrow or Monday or next month..." But the days slip into years, and you'll find that you've run outta time. Don't let this happen to you.

It's crazy how time flies by, especially as we get older. The question that you should constantly ask yourself is, are you showing up for yourself and doing the things you consider important, or are you continuously putting things off and saying to yourself that you'll do them some other time?

We are all guilty of making promises to ourselves and postponing things we want to do. That is dangerous because before you know it, time is gone, life happens, and we are left with regrets. You need to understand that the days are passing by, and sooner than you realize, they'll turn into years.

And the one thing you can't do is blame anyone but yourself for not doing the things you always wanted. You can't blame your kids, and neither can you blame your other obligations. If something is important to you, you have got to find time to do it.

Are you ready for an incredible message of hope and healing?

If you have ever struggled with your weight get ready to hear a success story from one of our Code Red Rebels, Christine.  

Christine has struggled with her weight her entire life and before she started down the journey of healing she weighed herself at 418 pounds and was truly afraid of the scale and miserable in her life.  Everything was hard, just trying to do simple things that many people are able to do with no problems was hard.  Walking a block was hard, rolling over in bed was hard, literally everything was hard.

As of recording this podcast Christine has lost over 125 pounds since joining the Code Red community.

She has family that are big but this is no longer an excuse. She has had health issues due to her weight but this is no longer an excuse.  People might think it is tough to be on Code Red food plan but the truth is being overweight is what is restrictive.

A fun question that was asked was in this episode was "how did you even find Code Red?"

Christine's answer is was better and more detailed when you watch or listen to this episode but the very short version of this was an Instagram post from her friend.  Talk about the right timing or being in the right place or having the belief that god is there to provide the moment that you need the answer.

Real food, water, sleep and prayer are the main reasons that Christine was able to do what she has be able to do so far in her weight loss journey and she's not done yet.  She has beat her original goal and now she has new goals.

Most people agree that sugar tastes good.

Yet most people don't know that "tasty sugar" is also a chronic, dose-dependent hepatotoxin.

Put another way, sugar is a liver toxin when you eat too much too often.

I don't want to talk about this. But it's the elephant in the room. So why do people gain back their weight after leaving the Code Red community? Let's have a heart to heart and learn where they went wrong and how you can prevent this from happening to you.

Today we are talking about what many people in the weight loss industry avoid talking about. It is clear to everybody that people gain back their weight after leaving the program that helped them lose weight. Code Red is no different; most of our certified coaches and leaders have unfortunately regained some weight or all of it after they left the community.

Does this indicate a failure of the Code Red program? Absolutely not; as much as it's baffling why people would go through the weight loss process only to regain back their weight, we have found the reasons why this happens.

05 Apr 2023HOW EXERCISE MESSES WITH YOUR HEAD00:32:03

My sister Cari knows a lady who walks 10 to 15 miles a day for her job...and still has a weight problem.

She's in weight loss mode, which is awesome, but even with all that walking for her job, she decided to add in workouts.

Not surprisingly (to me), adding workouts to her routine messed with her head and disrupted her weight loss progress.

I bring it up because I decided to do this podcast episode on how exercise messes with your head...not only to keep reminding people that you cannot out-train a bad diet, but also to clear up a little confusion I'm seeing about my bodybuilding comeback journey (which is still going on at the time of this episode).

An example: some guy recently saw my Instagram posts about working out and showing my bodybuilding progress.

So he asked me if Code Red’s message has changed from where it started out: real food, water, and sleep, no exercise needed.

He also kinda freaked out about me "killing myself in the gym," and asked if that's what HE has to do now in order to do Code Red.

NO, it is not!

As I've said a million times for the past 11 years, exercise is not a way to address a weight problem.

I am exercising like a madwoman because I'm training for a bodybuilding comeback on April 30, 2023. I'm on a completely different path from the one you're on with Code Red.

Please understand that Code Red does not hate exercise.

We only say you cannot out-train a bad diet, which is 100% true, and that it's easier and WAY less overwhelming to focus on your nutrition to get your weight off (especially if you're too unhealthy to safely exercise).

You can lose all the weight you want through real food, water, and sleep with Code Red, look great, fit into your clothes, feel good about yourself, and regain your health.

You DO NOT need to do what I’m doing to succeed with Code Red, because my goal - to complete in bodybuilding again - is TOTALLY different.

Up until recently, my sister, Cari, had THREE peacocks.

One was a strong male, and he knew how evenings worked on the Thompson farm.

He knew to go into the barn at night, because the barn kept him safe from from bobcats, coyotes, and other predators.

But one night a few weeks ago, for whatever reason, he chose not to come back to the barn.

Cari and her husband found him the next day, dead.

If he'd only come back to the safety of the barn, he’d still be with the other birds on Cari's farm.

It's a painful but powerful lesson about the power of staying connected to what keeps you safe.

Case in point: Over and over, even the strongest, most certain Rebels who disconnect from Code Red gain back some, or even all of their weight.

It's not because they're weak or lazy.

It's not because they don't mean it when they say, "I am NEVER gaining my weight back again."

It's because they leave "the safety of the barn," so to speak, and find themselves alone in the mainstream world...which is dedicated to crap health and crap food.

And sooner or later, it takes them out, in the form of weight regain.

But unlike with Cari's peacock, this situation doesn't have to be permanent.

And it MOST definitely can be prevented.

When you, me - anyone - goes into a new venture of any kind...

Whether it's weight loss, building your own business, getting married, having kids...

We tend to be pretty ignorant about what it's ACTUALLY gonna take to be successful.

We think we know, but usually, we don't. Not really.

In some cases, our ignorance comes from a lack of knowledge.

In other cases, we do have some knowledge, but the knowledge doesn't prepare us for the EXPERIENCE of doing what it takes to succeed.

Either way, our ignorance catches up with us, and we take a step back and go, "Woa, there is WAY more to this than I expected."

A while back, I heard about this concept called paying down your ignorance.

Basically, it's four steps you need to take to go from ignorant about how to be successful to actually BEING successful.

When someone says to you, “You need to stop being so obsessed with your health,” you probably take it as an insult, right?

"Obsession" has such a negative connotation that someone calling you obsessed about anything supposedly isn't "nice."

But consider which is worse...to be obsessed with exercise and bodybuilding, or obsessed with drugs and alcohol? (We don't exercise for weight loss on Code Red, but you get my point.)

Or how about this one...when you go on vacation, you can be obsessed about eating as much unhealthy food as you can get your hands on, or obsessed with healthy choices, getting your water in, and sleeping.

And Katie bar the door if you choose real food, water, and sleep over "wine-thirty" and enough dessert to feed an entire small town! Suddenly you’re “obsessed” with your health and “no fun!”

I really like listening to Joyce Meyer. If you know any of her story, you know she experienced childhood incest for 15 years at the hands of her own biological father.

Yet she was, eventually, able to forgive him. (It doesn't make what he did okay, it just means she decided to stop letting what happened make her miserable.)

Cari and I suffered abuse in childhood (not from our parents - it was someone else), and I was physically, verbally, and emotionally abused by my first husband. We've both had other rotten things happen in our lives, too.

But eventually we learned that harboring the bitterness of unforgiveness in your body and soul is actually a sort of trap, in that it damages YOU, not the person who hurt you.

But look at the state of our country's health, and it's clear that we emphasize food way more than is good for us.

Instead of thriving during the holidays, we're often just trying to survive them.

And that can feel even more true when you're on a weight loss journey.

What do you do if people drop sweets off at the office to thank you for all the great work you do? How do you respond without feeling rude?

Or how about if you get invited to a friend’s Christmas party, and there's an entire table full of off-plan food? What then?

If you're like most people, there are probably a few things you'd change if you could go back in time and be healthier. But how many of those things have you actually changed? Maybe none? That's because today is the only day that matters when it comes to your health.

The fact is that tomorrow may never come. Today is the only day we can change our lives, and the first step starts with understanding the values you can learn from yesterday.

What got you fat? What triggered your hypertension? What led to your type 2 diabetes?

More Importantly, what can you do differently NOW, in order to get to the future you WANT to enjoy?

Forgive us for assuming but…a lot of you might be saying, “I know what I need to do”.

10 Feb 2021Is It Okay To Be FAT If You're FIT?00:29:12

Are you throwing up a 195 overhead jerk but asking for the seatbelt extender on the plane? I've been saying this for years, but finally, a new study was released to back me up on if it is okay to be fat as long as you're fit.

One cannot be fat but healthy. This is according to new research by the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology. The negative effects of excess body fat on heart health cannot be mitigated by leading an active lifestyle.

The idea that people who are fat and fit are healthy is simply a myth that has been busted by this new study. We have known this at Code Red all along, and I have said numerous times that exercise doesn't have anything to do with fat loss. Exercise has a ton of benefits, but weight loss isn't one of them.

The number one biggest lie in weight loss is that you can exercise your weight off. It doesn't matter how much you bench press, run, or ride a bike. It doesn't matter how fit you are; if you are overweight, you need to lose that fat. And the answer lies in real food, water, and sleep.

If you've seen the second Hunger Games movie - Catching Fire - you know that Katniss and Peeta, two of the main characters, are touring the districts by train after winning the 74th annual Hunger Games, as is custom for the winner to do.

Things go badly in District 11, when Katniss accidentally provokes the crowd into doing something that gets one of them killed by Capital Peacekeepers.

Completely freaked out, Katniss cries to Haymitch, hers and Peeta's mentor, about how to just get through the end of the tour so they can go home.

"Wake up, girl," Haymitch says, snapping his fingers. "This trip doesn't end. You ain't EVER getting off this train!"

The concept of never getting off the train is pretty terrifying in those circumstances!

But when you look at it from a different perspective, it’s actually a powerful way to think about your health journey, and here’s why.

One reason SO many people gain back weight is because they keep "getting off the train."

Put another way, they think they can skip doing the exact things that work to get and keep the weight off!

I call it the diet mentality, and it's only gonna ever lead to frustration and failure.

People may not respond to one truth but may respond to another.

Put a frog in a steel pot with cool water and it’s going to stay there, almost still. Place the pot over the stove and turn up the heat. Seeing the frog’s predicament, you know it’s going to need your help, but that frog’s not going to try to get itself out until the water heats up to an uncomfortable temperature.

Isn’t that how it is with most people? We can see they're in dire need of losing excess weight, but until they start feeling the need to help themselves, they’re not going to want help.

No matter what you say, even the truth about obesity, if people choose not to hear you out, there’s just no convincing them!

We’re not asking you to give up on your loved ones, rather, we’re asking you to acknowledge that there are other truths that may garner positive responses…

Like the truth about needing time and space to figure things out for themselves. Or the truth that there’s someone else better suited to help them. And so, we offer them these!

In the meantime, we keep sowing seeds of truth that we pray will grow into realizations, until they blossom into actions toward taking their lives back!

While you’re at it, why don’t you expand your garden and sow more seeds in other places, in other people.

They’re not all going to blossom all at the same time, so focus your efforts on buds that have opened up and are now willing to accept your help, so that they can start towards the healthy life they ought to have!

01 Sep 20214 Mainstream Lies Keeping You Fat00:25:20

Today on Rebel Weight Loss and Lifestyle we are discussing 4 mainstream lies keeping you obese, or fat or overweight.  Whatever you want to call it we are going through 4 of those lies today.

Lie #1 - "Well it's just I can't lose that baby weight" - If you just had a baby you do not need to be back to your normal weight immediately after you have a child but at some point it is time to get moving and get that weight off.

Lie #2 - "Weight gain is a part of getting older and there's nothing you can do about it" - Age is just a number.  It doesn't have to be an issue and in Code Red we have had over 60,000 people achieve their goals and it all has nothing to do with age.  We have so many examples of proving this within Code Red.

Lie #3 - "Well, you're overweight because that's just how you're built" -  I know there is frame size, small, medium, and large frame size for people but a bigger frame does not mean you should be overweight.

Lie #4 - "Your obesity is genetic. You'll always be fat" - Genetics do play a role in your health and where fat might go but again.  You are not fat because of genetics.  You are not obese because of genetics.  You have to make a choice to working differently than those genetically related to you.

“I should’ve known better.”

The most common line that usually precedes a statement of regret, precedes submission to a past fault – that which most people fixate on as they succumb to the belief that “now, it’s too late”.

If you knew back then what you know now, would that have made difference?

Would you be healthy right now if you knew about the consequences of substance abuse and poor eating habits?

Would you have done things differently and focused on a healthy lifestyle?

It’s easy to say, “Yes, things would be better today”; nonetheless, we’ll never really know, right? Because those “ifs” are merely vestiges of the past and there’s no turning back time.

And so, what of our new realizations? What of the knowledge we possess right now? Are they for naught, because there’re no do-overs?

In today’s episode, we’ll be talking about the things we’d like our younger selves to know, not for the sake of past but for posterity.

We take the learnings from past struggles, apply them to our present lives, so that we may move forward with the prospect of living better lives in the future.

That’s the key: Moving forward and to a direction of “Better”.

Our failures then should not mark the end for us…

Poor choices and the consequences they entail should be the starting point from which we make an awesome COMEBACK – because now, we’re better equipped, we’re better suited to take our lives back…

“We know better NOW!”

Anyone can lose weight! But can you keep it off? Hear how this Rebel and business owner kept her weight off even during vacations, and in the face of travel, stress, and life. Marley Jaxx, our guest in this episode, is a YouTube Agency that works with entrepreneurs and influencers to create their video content on YouTube.  Marley got on to Code Red and lost 20 pounds. She stayed Code Red through the holidays and through travelling which was almost every week. What we get to know during the course of the interview with her on the podcast is that she has found travelling to have made her more conscious of choices that gel with her decision to go Code Red.

And everything above is still true today but unfortunately, we have a more serious subject to discuss that has happened in Marley’s journey through life.

 

This interview you get to hear the story of Marley’s diagnosis and the challenging decisions she had to make to fight against the cancer.

 

One incredible thing we get to hear is Marley didn't cope by eating, which she felt that before going through the Code Red programs she could have been using food as a coping mechanism.  But surprisingly, it wasn't in this case.

 

Because she knew the importance of health and nutrition. For this new diagnosis, she didn't even think about going to sugar or carbs or anything like that for comfort food.

 

Marley continues with her story and the choices she was going to have to make and while this is NOT MEDICAL ADVICE, Marley choose to avoid surgery and work to understand the root cause.

 

She decided to be smart with her sleep, her water, and her food.

 

And she worked to really figure out why her body had created an environment to get cancer and how she could create a new environment that her body could work to heal itself.

One of the biggest mistakes humans make is muddying the waters by making stuff more complicated than it needs to be.

A few people have even wanted a refund for the 10 Pound Takedown over the years because they "don't believe it can be that simple."

So a program where you have to stand on your head, cluck like a chicken for six and a half seconds, drink lemon water at 6 AM, 9 AM, 4 PM, and 7 PM, snort pepper up your nose, have "fruit days," and hang tinsel off your left ear while farting "makes sense"...

But real food, water, sleep, and a few simple rules are "too simple?"

Sheesh.

(The same people who say real food, water, and sleep are too simple are usually fine buying another magic pill or powder.)

It's really a shame that so many people want things to be complicated and confusing, because there are plenty of programs out there happy to make weight loss so complicated that you'll never stick with it. Then they can tell you it's YOUR fault you failed.

Yes, you have a part to play in your success. No one can do the work for you, and I don't accept bull crap excuses about why you "can't" do your part.

That still doesn't make it okay for the diet industry to either make weight loss sound as easy as taking a magic pill (it's not), OR as complicated as waxing your right nostril while standing on one foot and drinking a green smoothie while you dream of rainbows and unicorn farts.

Bottom line: if you feel like a deer in the headlights when it comes to SIMPLE, effective weight loss, tune into this episode and learn why the clarity and simplicity of Code Red can finally bring the weight loss success you want.

Achieving good health starts with creating space where there was none before.

We’re talking about understanding that our reality involves Mutually Exclusive Events – things that cannot coexist at the same TIME and SPACE!

For example…you can’t be running and walking at the same time. You can’t be turning left and right, or moving forward and backwards at the same time.

People can argue that it’s a matter of perspective. But from your viewpoint – the perspective that matters most in YOUR life – which direction are you headed and how fast are you going?

There’re tons of mutually exclusive events in our lives, an important one being: you CAN’T be unhealthy AND healthy at the same time! For one to exist, the other has GOT to GO! Simply put…

When it comes to health and weight loss, we have to let go of some things – food, clothes, habits, and even people – in order to accommodate the “NEW YOU” that you desire.

You want…

To lose weight? Say goodbye to old eating habits that got you fat.

A healthy body? Bid farewell to sugar, junk/processed foods, alcohol, and other toxic substances.

To focus on the future? Get rid of your “FAT Pants” that keep dragging you towards the past.

A more positive outlook on life? Hasta la vista to negative self-talk and people who keep pulling you down.

Instead…

Say hello to good eating habits, real food, water and sleep, a better tomorrow, and confidence that resonates with like-minded people!

Set yourself up for success!

It all comes down to making the tough choices. Don’t be afraid to rid yourself of what society says you “need”. Keep only what makes you truly happy and those that serve your purpose: Achieving the healthy life that you deserve!

Will it be something to do with my bestselling book, The Code Red Revolution, and how it's helped hundreds of thousands of people take their lives back?

Something to do with my boxing career?

And how about you?

You'll never get the weight off if you can't manage your impulses in the moment.

I get it. You're at a party and everyone's eating "what they want, when they want." You feel like you're missing out because you aren't eating the same thing at the same time as other people at the party.

But by showing restraint in that moment, you're also moving closer to your goal of getting this freaking weight off.

Remember that the ability to delay gratification is a trait successful people share, and just because you feel an impulse to eat something in the moment doesn't mean you have to act on it.

There will always be another pizza, another bottle of wine, another can of soda, and another bag of chips. You've had them before, you know what they taste like, and they've done you no favors.

So control the variables, control the food in your house, control the situations you put yourself in. Find a way to not be in the situation that could lead to a bad decision for your health and your weight.

Not every single variable is under your control, but many variables are. Control the ones you can control, and create an environment for success.

04 Sep 2024ONE DAY, YOU WON'T HAVE THE CHANCE00:28:44

Last month, I took Hazel to detection training school in Canada.

I did it because Hazel is a working dog. A Belgian Malinois.

Belgians are the most agile, heroic, and (potentially) lethal dog breed on the planet.

That's why law enforcement agencies use them as detection and apprehension dogs.

Hazel was too small and too sweet to officially work for law enforcement, which is one reason I decided to adopt her.

But she's still a Malinois, and she's not built to be a family pet...

Which is why I signed us up for detection training school...so I better understood how to give her what SHE needs, as a Malinois.

The detection class itself was really fun, but going to Canada was an expensive, exhausting pain in the butt in pretty much every way.

Seriously, there were plenty of reasons NOT to go...like the money (I spent thousands of dollars on the class, the travel, and the Airbnb I stayed at), like being gone from home for too long, and like having to get up at 4 AM to get my work done before the class started.

But I did it all anyway, and even though it really kicked my butt, I'm SO glad I did it.

Why?

Because I might not get the chance again.

What if the training company shuts down?

What if the world situation changed, and I couldn't fly to Canada?

What if my schedule got even fuller, and it got even MORE inconvenient to make the time?

I get how easy it is to justify postponing stuff because you assume you'll get another chance.

But as I share in this week podcast episode, one day you WON'T have the chance.

Tomorrow is not promised.

And if you keep waiting for "one day," you may "one day" yourself into missing out entirely...including the chance to be healthy, slim, and strong.

With your mind sitting helplessly on the gutter, you’ve already lost the war.

We’re not just talking about the war against obesity, but also all other conflicts we face in our day to day lives!

2 things are most likely to happen when you put a person under the lens.

Either they fake it or they show you the truth.

But no matter which path they take, they’ll be glorifying something.

Why is this relevant?

In a world where the internet is far reaching and cameras are in everyone’s pockets, dashboards, head gears, offices and homes, there’s always someone watching. At any given time, the human population can share and consume countless information. And when there’s that much information going around, it becomes harder to discern truths from lies.

Information, regardless of whether it’s true or not, is powerful. When we cannot discern one from the other, we become vulnerable to the influence of things that shouldn’t be glorified, and instead should be criticized, denounced or even condemned for the harm they may deal to people.

You think telling people that junk food has no ill effects to the human body and is therefore “okay” to consume should be glorified? Masked as a mere “opinion”, things like these are destructive information! And should you be vilifying someone who is “against” your perception of beauty because s/he believes that genes and age shouldn’t justify obesity?

These are just some contributors to the plague that is obesity. When people glorify the wrong things about health, unknowingly or deliberately, they empower obesity and the complications that come with.

In this regard, we invite you to consider the messages you’re putting on social media. What message are you sharing with the world? Whom or what are you glorifying with your lifestyle?

Under the lense, we are all contributors. It’s up to us to decide whether we contribute to the demise or the proliferation of good values, good conduct, good lifestyle, and of good health.

In the grander scheme of things, we’re all uniquely gifted to serve a purpose – the best way we can positively impact others!

Basically, everything on earth (even the most mundane of things, like a rock or a shrub) was made to serve a purpose. We are no exception to this!

Some are called to become world-class performers and entertainers, teachers and coaches, or entrepreneurs and inventors. For others, it’s simpler (but NOT less important) like being a parent, a son or daughter, or a friend.

Each of our unique purposes are meant to contribute to a higher purpose: for all life to thrive and prosper!

In finding that purpose, you stand to gain the LIFE YOU TRULY DESIRE!

In CodeRed, we’re fortunate enough to be able to serve our communities as teachers who educate others about living a healthy lifestyle, and as warriors fighting against the plague that is obesity (and all diseases it entails).

None of us here knew exactly, from the very beginning, what our TRUE PURPOSE was.

We had to discover, learn, forget and relearn the things that make CodeRed a successful and worthwhile way of living.

The Book of Exodus in the Bible tells the story of how God used Moses to free the Israelites from centuries of enslavement in Egypt.

Egypt's ruler, Pharaoh, refused to let God's people go, so God sent plagues into Egypt. The second of those plagues was frogs. EVERYWHERE.

Frogs in their houses, in their bedrooms, in their beds, in their servant's houses, and even ON the Egyptians and their servants! Can you imagine?

(I can't imagine touching one frog, much less having wall-to-wall frogs in my house, in my bed, and hopping all over me!)

But this is the part of the story that always gets me.

When Moses went to Pharaoh and asked him when he should remove the frogs, you know what Pharaoh said?

"Tomorrow."

Uh…what???

WHY would Pharaoh want his people to spend even one more night with the frogs?

It seems weird, but how often in life do we wait around in rotten situations, like Pharaoh did with the frogs, instead of starting NOW?

Cut a growing plant today and you’ll miss out on the fruits and the tree.

Wasn’t easy planting the seed and waiting for it to rise from the ground, right?

You spent time and energy getting it to where it’s at but now you’re willing to chop it down before it has the chance to bear fruit?

Who invests a large sum into financial instruments only to cash out for 10 cents on the dollar because they need money for a Steve Madden sale?

Who spends time and energy to build a beautiful relationship only to throw it away for a fling following a petty quarrel?

Who bothers to lose weight only to start gaining ‘em back because pizza night with the gang is just once a month?

Who? Sadly, a lot of us do.

Because a lot of us are impatient, lack the discipline, and are fearfully living with a scarcity mindset.

Many of us settle for quick feel-good moments today because the future is all but certain.

Well, here’s a bit of truth for all of us…

Our dreams and goals ARE reachable and they are not simply subject to luck. With patience, discipline, and an abundance mindset supporting our hard work, we CAN achieve the life that we deserve!

We’re worth more than a few boots and pennies. We deserve true love and happiness. We’re meant to enjoy life beyond just a slice of pizza.

Stay committed to your goals! Consider that your hard work today is worth tenfold tomorrow. Believe that you are deserving of the life you dream of.

It is so hard to truly move forward and AWAY from a big pain in your life especially when the pain is caused by someone specific.  We can say we forgive, we can say we will move on but you will not be truly done with it until you have truly gotten to the point of being better from the pain and not bitter from it.

I know this takes work.  I know it can be hard.  I know that when you do not have bitterness you will be able to be truly happy and truly receive in your life!

The human brain is pretty fascinating.

It's wired to both be wary of new things, and yet be excited by them.

The human mind also loves to improve things in order to save us time and energy, and give us a survival advantage.

The problem is that sometimes our desire for the dopamine hit we get from "new and exciting" causes us to lose touch with what's actually working...

And in a lot of cases, overcomplicate the crap out of something that isn't complicated.

I mean, how much simpler can it be than real food, water, and sleep?

Here's an example of what I mean.

A former Rebel who left the community posted pictures on social networks of what she was eating.There were many "foods" that we on Code Red call workarounds, like "keto bread," "keto cupcakes," and "keto snacks."

After only three months, this lady gained back a lot of the weight she'd lost on Code Red.

After another three months, she'd gained back all of it or more...

Not because the program doesn't work, but because she stopped following it.

She lost sight of what works, and for whatever reason, didn't want to see it again.

In this week's new podcast episode, I'm joined by a special guest to talk about something I don't often talk about on Code Red: Men.

My guest's name is Jeff Later, and I've known him for years. He's a pro body builder, fitness coach, and lifestyle coach.

To look at him, you'd likely assume that he only works with bodybuilders.

But the reality is, he works mostly with men and women over forty, with sixty-five percent of his clients being female (because women, in general, are more open to receiving instruction than are men).

Jeff and I have talked before about the state of our country's health, and Jeff recently shared a thoroughly researched (and scary) statistic with me: The fathers of today's men had more testosterone than today's men do; and their grandfathers had even more.

In fact, society-wide, we've seen severe declines in testosterone and other hormones (in both men and women).

Women have testosterone, too, and in both men and women, it influences muscle mass, longevity, mood, libido, and MORE (when it's present in the proper amounts for each gender).

After hearing about this from Jeff, I invited him onto this podcast episode to talk about men.

Yes, ninety-three percent of Code Red's clients are female...

But if that's you, you also interact with men and have them in your life.

Maybe there are even men in your life who aren't very healthy, and you wish you knew how to reach them.

In this episode we’re talking about yo-yo dieting.

My mom said something funny but true about losing weight: The more you yo-yo, the harder the "yo" gets.

In other words, the more your weight bounces up, the harder it is to get it back down.

I'm not trying to discourage you if you've fallen off the wagon. I get it and Code Red is here for you!

What I'm saying is that yo-yoing brings physical and psychological problems that get worse the more you do it.

To be clear, that doesn't mean all hope is lost.

It DOES mean that you can make things easier on yourself by stopping the yo-yo NOW.

In this episode I'll dive into yo-yoing and how you can put a stop to it.

Some of what I say is gonna surprise you. (The Cristy of six years ago would NEVER have said it!)

One of my favorite stories from the Bible is about a guy who spent 38 years trying to get healed.

Along with a lot of other people who were sick or crippled, he'd lie next to the pool of Bethesda every day, waiting for a supposed angel of the Lord to come and move the water.

The legend was that whoever first crawled into the water while it was moving got healed.

When Jesus arrived at the pool, he caught this guy whining for someone to help him crawl in.

Jesus asked him if he’d like to be healed, and the man whined, “I have no one to put me in the pool!”

But Jesus didn't let this guy get away with whining. He told him to pick up his bed and walk...and the guy did.

If you want to get the weight off, keep it off, and feel better, whining and excuses won't help you get there, anymore than they helped this guy from the Bible get healed.

One of the worst crimes in today's "social media" society can be summed up in one word:

Disagreement.

Seriously, someone not agreeing with your personal opinion is grounds for an online mob attack these days.

Someone accidentally puts an angry face instead of a heart on your post, and it ruins your day.

As if that wasn't bad enough, more and more people are getting SO offended that they sabotage their own lives.

For example, people have actually left Code Red, regained their weight, and got sick again because Cari or I said something they didn't agree with.

Put another way: getting offended caused them to retreat into emotional protection and HURT THEIR BODY AND MIND themselves by returning to foods and habits that packed the weight back on and fed their pain and disease.

Is it REALLY worth getting SO offended that you can't even function? That you wallow in blame and self-pity for years?

What kind of a life is that?

And what are you missing out on because you refuse to navigate life without hiding in a cave every time someone disagrees with you?

Almost every day, I hear someone say something that just isn't true:

"Weight loss is all mental."

If weight loss was ALL mental, you could sit around and think your way to goal weight (without having to address what you're doing that's causing your weight problem in the first place).

Does mindset have a place?

Oh, absolutely! The right mindset makes everything easier.

But weight loss is not "all" mental. That's like saying getting your car out of the garage and into the grocery store parking lot is ALL mental. Unless you're telekinetic, no, it isn't! 😂

The sun, moon and stars will align for you to shed the weight.

But the problem is how often we need them to align because we keep regaining our weight.

Yep! Weight loss isn’t the problem. It’s weight regain that’s plaguing our nation.

It happens to the best of us! Even coaches, trainers, dieticians, among other health professionals are susceptible to gaining back weight!

Often, people become too familiar with having achieved goal weight and they can’t fathom how anything might change that state. They start forgetting to take measurements needed for managing their weight. They become careless and expose themselves to the contagion that is obesity. Others are simply burnt out from the “grind”.

Ultimately, people regain weight because they forget or take for granted the great feeling of being healthy and at goal weight.

To a lot of us, gathering the strength and courage to persevere towards losing weight takes so much energy. It’s almost always hard at the beginning! The problem becomes apparent when people have to start from square one.

Fortunately, something else becomes apparent: importance of having the proper mindset to maintain goal weight.

So, what’s the secret? How is documenting and remembering the feeling of being healthy key to fighting the weight regain issue? What else can we do to keep ourselves from succumbing to this plague?

A while back, my sister, Cari, posted something slightly political on her Facebook news feed, mainly because it was a play on words to do with her husband's name, and she thought it was funny.

Someone read it, got upset and messaged me to say, “Cristy, I’m done with Code Red!”

Cari's post had nothing to do with Code Red, or even weight loss.

Yet because she happens to be my sister, they decided to have a mad fit over it, unfollow ME, and abandon their Code Red journey.

This person's behavior reminded me how, as a society, we've gotten SO touchy.

Heaven forbid you tell the truth about something uncomfortable, like the FACT that obesity is NOT healthy.

What has the world come to when doctors can't even warn you about the health risks associated with obesity because someone's gonna get offended?

What's next? They can't talk to you about diabetes, cancer, or fibromyalgia, because someone who can't handle the truth decides it's "prejudiced" somehow to talk about diseases?

Cancel culture is out of control.

And the people in your day to day life may decide to "cancel" you or their association with you in some way just because you're daring to take your life back.

I sure hope it doesn't come to THAT.

Yet at the rate things are going, you've gotta be prepared for it.

03 Mar 2021Hitting Hard Ground Vs. Hitting CONCRETE!00:30:44

Hitting the hard ground hurts. You're gonna be bruised, broken, and busted up. But hitting concrete is a career-ender, a deal-breaker, and you'll probably die. So many people think that the mistakes they make are career-enders (like hitting concrete). But I encourage you to reconsider; get up, dust yourself off and go again instead of giving up.

What has happened to you is not a deal-breaker, it’s all the way you choose to look at it. So many people think they've hit concrete if they gain their weight back. They think they will never come back from it. There's nothing in weight loss or in Code Red that is a deal-breaker.

It might be embarrassing, but spending the rest of your life overweight just because you are embarrassed doesn't make any sense. You can come back from it if you just took the next small step forward. Whatever happened is in the past. All you need to is identify what went wrong, learn from your mistakes, and move forward in a different direction.

When I first started Code Red fourteen years ago, people lost weight much more slowly, and that's for two reasons:

  1. I was still learning, so the program wasn't as good as it is now
  2. I allowed people to eat one cheat meal a week

I come from a bodybuilding background, and one cheat meal a week is what bodybuilders often do.

But many average Americans don't work out consistently (or at all), and most are metabolically broken.

(More importantly, you cannot out-train a bad diet, no matter how much you exercise.)

What I eventually figured out is that a healthy, super fit bodybuilder eating one cheat meal a week is a completely different situation than an obese grandmother who can't get out of her recliner without help eating one cheat meal a week.

It also became crystal clear that cheat meals led my clients to take one step forward and TWO steps back.

Plus, once they started cheating, they couldn't contain it to just one meal. It turned into going off the rails completely.

There's no shortage of ways to lose weight. You can lose weight with the lemon and cayenne pepper diet, the cabbage soup diet, or with Noom, Weight Watchers, Atkins, Ozempic, gastric surgery, and a million more.

Losing weight isn't the hard part.

It's keeping it off that most people struggle with, which is why I say we don’t have a weight loss problem in this country, we have a weight regain problem.

Back in January, I did a workshop called Throwing It All Away, where I talked about my biggest battle ever with weight regain.

It happened for one simple reason: I stopped doing what was working.

The REASONS I stopped are relatable, but for this conversation, they're beside the point.

The point is that when you stop doing what's working, you lose the result.

If you stop showering, you stop staying clean.

If you stop putting fuel in your car, it stops running.

And if you stop doing what worked to get your weight off, you gain it back.

That's why gimmicks like Ozempic, and drastic measures like gastric surgery, are so dangerous. How many times can you safely do them? How far can they really get you?

20 Jan 2021Don't STOP After Reaching Your GOAL00:22:03

It sounds silly, but a lot of people STOP once they reach their goal. You can't stop, and you can't go back to the old ways that got you into this mess, to begin with. But you can pivot, shift and move into a new phase.

We have noticed that many people stop doing what they did to reach their goal, they just stop and become lazy. We don't want you to do this, we want you to reach your goal and stay there. What you did to reach your goal, you got to keep doing it.

Pivoting to your new phase once you reach your goal requires a change of plan and a shift in mindset, but you have to stay committed every day for the rest of your life. You ain't never going back to your old ways.

At Code Red, we are playing the long game. Hitting your weight loss goal is just one piece of the puzzle. Once you get there, we shift and pivot into the maintenance program because we believe that America doesn't have a weight loss problem, but a weight regain problem.

This conversation may not be universally agreed upon.  Maybe a few of you take offense to this topic.  I believe it is too important to not talk about this.

No more victims here in Code Red.  

Let's stop and think for a moment and digest this information;

Maybe you are the problem because it's nobody's job to keep you happy. Did you know that?

It's nobody's job to keep you happy.

It is not your spouse's job.

It is not your partner's job to keep you happy.

It is not your kid's job to keep you happy.

It is not your boss's job to keep you happy.

It is not your pastor's job to keep you happy.

It is not your mother-in-law's job to keep you happy.

It is nobody's job to keep you happy.

So if you're unhappy with your life, it is your responsibility to change. 

This mentality holds true for EVERYTHING in your life not just happiness.

So stop and think for a moment, maybe it is you that needs to make an adjustment because maybe you are the problem and only you are the one who can fix it.

A friend of mine recently had a miscarriage. This was after going through IVF, hormone treatments, and working SO hard to get herself healthy, so she could get pregnant and carry a fetus.

It was tough. But she began to come up with a plan, which was to get back to baseline, because she’d gained 15 pounds doing IVF and wanted to lose that.

I suggested that what she needed was to reset and recover, and give herself time to heal her grieving heart.

Resetting and recovering are things many people dismiss as "being weak" or "wasting time"...OR as something you only do if you've gone through an accident, miscarriage, divorce, loss, or some other tough experience.

But the reality is, resetting and recovering is good to do in a lot of different situations.

Yes, there are times to push.

There are also times to reset and recover.

To be clear, reset and recover doesn’t mean you go backwards.

One of the most powerful and underrated words in the English language is also my favorite word.

Can you guess what it is?

No, it's NOT “motivation.” That word is _over_rated.

My favorite word is actually...MOMENTUM!

Any time you start a new journey, whether it's to lose weight, grow a business, or even organize your closet, there's an adjustment period of getting into momentum.

But once you get into momentum and stay there, great things start happening.

Take my buddy Jason, who wanted to drop some weight and hired me to be accountable to.

He's doing REALLY well, and part of that is because he's got great momentum.

It's the same for anyone doing well on Code Red. They're in momentum!

When it comes to health, you want to be certain.

Our goal is for people to take their health back from years of abuse due to poor eating habits, poor water consumption and sleep deprivation, among other factors.

If we want to achieve that goal, we need people to strongly believe in us. We need people to see that we did the research and put in the work.

We built a culture where people look to empirical data, scholarly articles, scientific studies, and credible sources before making decisions that affect health.

One such article is from The New England Journal of Medicine where they showcase a study, made by N. A. Christakis, and J. H. Fowler, on the spread of obesity in a large social network over 32 years.

Results show that people’s chances of becoming obese increase by 57% if s/he has a friend who is obese in a given interval.

Among pairs of adult siblings, there’s a 40% increased chance of one becoming obese if the other is obese.

Furthermore, if one spouse is obese, the other has a 37% increased chance of becoming the same.

One conclusion derived from the study is that obesity appears to spread through social ties.

If you’ve ever gotten to your goal weight, felt lost, and regained weight, this episode will help you understand what happened.

Here’s the scoop.

I boxed as a licensed professional fighter from 2002 to 2010.

There was a lot of training, but I loved the feeling of knowing I could do hard things.

After I retired from boxing, I felt lost. My identity was no longer "a fighter."

To cope with that feeling, I immediately transitioned into another extreme sport: Cycling. And then I trained my butt off for that!

Fast forward to this year, and I trained and got on stage for a bodybuilding competition at age 47.

There are other really hard things I've sought out in my life, too...like hiking Rim to Rim in the Grand Canyon in 2021...like climbing Mt. Whitney last year...and many others.

What doing all these hard things has taught me is that when something is over that you really worked at, you can get depressed. You can feel lost and like you don’t have a purpose anymore...

Kinda like when you finally get to goal weight and find yourself thinking, "Now what??"

In this episode, I'm revealing what YOU can do to prevent the "Now what?" feeling from causing you to re-gain weight after you reach goal.

For me, there's no question that I'm doing what I was put on this earth to do.

We ALL have a purpose. We're all here for a reason. That's what I believe.

What that purpose is, well, that can be hard to pinpoint...kinda like it was (at first) for Esther in the Bible.

If you're familiar with the story, you know Esther was a typical Jewish woman who, through a series of pretty impossible circumstances, was made queen. God used her to save her people from an evil plot to wipe them out. It's what she was born to do.

Your purpose may or may not be that grandiose, but either way, don't think for one second that it doesn't matter.

To the people you impact, it can mean the world.

Case in point: my sister Cari is an ICU nurse.

She’s had patients the doctor tried to fix, but couldn't.

She told me about a family who wanted a minister to come in and pray, but no one would, and it was heartbreaking.

So, Cari offered to pray, and the relief on that family's face was instant.

To them, that meant the world!!

Make no mistake: YOU were here for a time such as this, too.

While I was in Calgary a few weeks back, I got coffee from the drive-thru of a coffee shop called Tim Horton's.

On the way out of the drive-thru, I spotted a sign that said, "See you tomorrow."

Not, "Have a nice day" or "Thank you for your business," but "See you tomorrow."

On the one hand, it's kinda brilliant. It plants this little seed that you should come back tomorrow, and does it in a subtle way so you don't feel like you're being told what to do.

But in some situations, getting someone to come back is one of the WORST things you can try to do.

And if you're a customer who keeps going back, you could be doing yourself more harm than good in these certain situations.

Being unhappy is a baggage you keep choosing to lug around.

No matter where you go, whom you’re with and what’s happening around you, you are where you are – with the same crap you choose to lug around.

Problem is you never seem to be the one to blame for your own pain and suffering…

It’s your age. It’s your knees. It’s the host, the food they chose to prepare, the peer pressure, and the list goes on!

That’s why you’re sad, why you’re binge-eating, why you’re sick and tired and overweight…but still carrying that baggage.

And after a long day of whining and cussing at the wretched life you currently have, you hit the hay, only to wake up the next day for another bout with yesterday’s tragedy.

“When does it stop”, you wonder.

When you stop lugging around your baggage – insecurities, negative self-talk, constant self-doubt, hesitance in taking responsibility for your own happiness!

Stop, even just for a moment, to think about how you have the power to make yourself happy!

In Code Red, we believe in your power!

You CAN choose to inspire and be inspired to take action against obesity and the insecurities they bring.

I've been to Europe eleven times and traveled all over the world during my boxing career.

And one thing I saw over and over is that in most European countries (not all, but most), obesity is very rare.

One of my Certified Coaches recently asked me why that is. Meaning, why are Americans so much heavier than most Europeans?

Well, one reason is that Europe has banned most of the gross chemicals we pack into our foods (especially our processed foods).

They also don't do GMOs or add inflammatory seed oils to everything.

Even fast food restaurants like McDonald's have fewer ingredients and fewer chemicals in their "food."

But all that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Lisa Cain has been heavy her entire life. Bullied as a kid, they called her "Jolly Green Giant." At 6 foot 2, she could never shop in the kids' section, couldn't fit into uniforms, and was told she was fat by her coach. Decades went by, and every diet failed, including weight loss surgery. Hear Lisa's story of how she finally lost 161 lbs and is no longer a "jolly green giant" but a goddess!!

Her transformation story has inspired so many people to begin their weight loss journey, and as you'll be hearing from her, her life has been completely changed.

Is someone listening?

The question a lot of us are always eager to ask but reluctant to hear the answer.

Because what if no one is listening?

If we can easily be offended when we’re talking to a friend while s/he is lazily scrolling on her/his phone, what more when we’re desperate for help and no one seems to return our call?!

Maybe you’re an entrepreneur trying to market your product to an audience, or a mom yelling for someone to take the laundry out the dryer because you’re busy cooking, or an obese person praying for a chance to take your life back…

You want to know if someone’s listening but you’re afraid to know there’s no one there.

Well, there’s ALWAYS someone listening!

But even in times there aren’t any other people around, remember that there’s always YOU who has the power to choose the outcome of your life.

You can’t control everything BUT change what you can.

Be accountable for what you know and take action!

If no one is listening to your spiels, change the spiel or change your product!

If no one is at home to help you out, change your schedule so chores don’t coincide.

In today's episode we are sharing practical scenarios and practical situations of what would be a friend that you wouldn't want to have and what would a good friend say that you do want to keep around.

I know we might get a few comments about this episode but this is so important when you are working to be better in life, better in health, a better spouse.  We all have people in life that are just not good for us in certain situations but we never talk about this subject.

Do you have clear boundaries for everything in life?

Do you have low confidence?  If you do, it will be harder to maintain your boundaries and say no to the things that do not fit your goals.

So a good friend is one that respects your boundaries...

Are you having conversations to set expectations of the day or the week or anything that you are trying to accomplish?  These conversation can really set the tone and allow your good friends to prove the respect that they have for you.

Are your friends providing you with positive energy?  Are they staying away from the drama?

Are you afraid of not having friends and so you tolerate actions from a friend that you know you shouldn't?

These are all topics that we cover in this episode.

12 Oct 2022Back to Basics: EXERCISE IS NOT THE ANSWER00:38:41

I spent almost eight years as a professional boxer, fighting at 154 pounds. And I kept and maintained that weight for years during my boxing career.

Then I retired from boxing and took up elite level road cycling in 2010, and things began to change.

Even riding my bike for hundreds of miles some weeks, my weight shot up by 20 pounds. Plus, my skin was ashy and my gut was hanging out, and I really didn’t feel good.

Here I was, doing ALL this exercising, yet not only was I not maintaining my weight (much less losing weight), I was getting fat!

It didn't make ANY sense!

What was I doing wrong??

I'd been taught that you HAVE to exercise to lose weight, yet here I was, the fittest I'd ever been, but also the FATTEST I'd ever been!

This experience is what finally taught me the TRUTH about exercise and weight loss.

In this week’s episode we’re talking about doing TOO much to get a result you want (like weight loss).

It's pretty easy to get sucked into thinking you need "all the bells and whistles"....even though they won't do jack squat to move the needle in whatever result you're working to get for yourself.

Case in point: I once bought an Oura Ring and paid over $300 for it.

It’s a beautiful ring that looks like a wedding ring, and it measures all sorts of metrics in your body, including core temperature, heart rate variability, and tons of other stuff.

In other words, it had all the bells and whistles.

But I ended up just selling it, all because it measured TOO MUCH stuff that I didn’t understand or care about...stuff that wasn't going to move the needle for me.

A lot of people fall prey to complicated bells and whistles that promise you everything but the kitchen sink...while simultaneously ignoring the non-negotiable basics that actually move the needle.

That's why, in this week's new podcast episode, Cari and I are gonna give you a simple way to cut through the clutter and stay focused on what will actually move the needle...

I've been in the weight loss industry for thirty years as of 2024, and when it comes to weight loss, I've seen everything you can imagine.

Pills, shakes, powders, and crazy "diets" come and go year after year, decade after decade.

I've changed my stance on a few things over the years, too.

For example, I used to believe in frequent eating for weight loss, and that the low-fat/high-carb diet was the "healthiest."

I used to give my mom grief for not eating breakfast (which she didn't do because she wasn't hungry first thing in the morning).

I used to be okay with veganism and being vegetarian (these days I personally don't support removing animal protein from your diet).

One thing I haven't changed my mind on, however, is this:

Real food, water, and sleep are the best and healthiest way to lose weight, clean up your wellness, and TAKE YOUR LIFE BACK.

If you're new to Code Red, you may be skeptical it's that simple.

You may still believe obesity can only be fixed with surgery, shots, pills, powders, INSANE and unsustainable diet gimmicks, or even killing yourself in the gym for five hours a day.

A while back I was talking with one of my long-time Certified Coaches, Andrea Dell, and she remarked that "we want change without having to change."

Oh man, do we ever!!

"Cristy, I want to look good naked, but I don't want to stop eating the sugar that's packing on body fat and keeping me on metformin."

"Cristy, I want to get out of bed in the morning without ice-pick knee pain, but I don't want to give up my chips."

"Cristy, I want to play on the floor with my grandkids and be able to get up by myself, but I can't give up my diet soda."

Wanting things to change, but being unwilling to change things - or worse, feeling like you "can't" - is a rotten place to be, isn't it?

Sometimes, the best thing anyone can do for themselves is to sit still and do nothing.

HO HO HO! We can smell ‘em keyboard warriors rearing to smack us with some self-righteous ideals from miles away!

There’s bound to be someone who’ll read this and say, “that’s just lazy!”

Or maybe something along the lines of, “not everyone’s a privileged schmuck who can afford to bum around…”.

We can’t blame them because in the context of the recent/on-going pandemic, where a lot of people lost their livelihood, telling someone to “sit still” just seems so inconsiderate, maybe even offensive.

And so, we’re obliged to extend the context…

When was the last time you made time for yourself? When was the last time you considered the state of your HEALTH above things like work and responsibilities?

A heck load of people have become so addicted to being BUSY to the point where they’ve NEGLECTED the truly important things like health and family. And for what?

There’s this mentality that success equates to hustling and grinding, overcommitting and overextending oneself, else, running themselves to the ground. Like that’s the only way to provide for their families, meet the demands of daily life, and maybe one day, earn the right to “live the dream”.

But what if there was another way?

A way that promotes productivity instead of being busy.

A way that puts more weight on progress rather than the motions.

A way where you get to REALLY LIVE!

Maybe it’s time to consider sitting down to think of how you can dent your goals, and doing nothing that antagonizes your health (more), instead of aimlessly hammering at things that don't really matter!

I DID express my opinion about their food choices in relation to their state of health.

But did I actually "fat shame" them, as some people accused me of?

I decided to ask you what your assumptions were about me. The response was both hilarious and interesting!

Assumption #1 - you are good at all sports and very competitive You always win.

Answer: Partly. That's true. Partly it's not true. I am barely good at all sports. I just think when you're athletic and you have. Good coordination and balance and agility and speed. And, you know, you can adapt to all sports and very competitive actually. No, I'm not very competitive. I've seen these athletes that, that are like, I'll stop at nothing to win and you know, and I'm gonna win.

Assumption #2 - is you don't eat cake.

Answer: That would be a correct assumption. I don't eat cake. Cake is not something that I go to. It's not my drug of choice. It's not something that I'm going to go seek out. It's not something that I'm going to be like, Ooh, make sure I get a piece of cake. If anything, I might have a bite of cake just to see what it tastes like. But even then, it's just not something that I really care a whole lot about

Assumption #3 -  is you like rock music?

Answer: I absolutely hate rock music. Yeah. And even more I hate. And I'm using the word hate. I try not to use that very often, but when it applies, I'm going to use it. I don't know what I despise. I should say I despise. I loath. I mean, I hate heavy metal music. And so when I hear rock music, that's what I think is heavy metal music, maybe different rock to you is different, but I don't like rock music at all. And I avoid it like the plague maybe because, because I have a Mohawk, you kind of assume perhaps that I like rock music, but that's what this is.

Assumption #4 - is that you're disciplined.

Answer: I am not as disciplined as I would like to be. I believe, I feel like I let myself off the hook too much, probably compared to the average person, I guess maybe I seem more disciplined and perhaps I am, but I don't feel like I am as disciplined as I should be. it's a good assumption

Assumption #5 - I think you are sensitive.

Answer:  Yes, yes and no, I am not sensitive if I get like an angry email and nasty email or someone's calling me names online, or I get hateful remarks or comments, or, you know, people that contact me and want to tell me off.  None of that makes me, I don't, I'm not affected by that. I'm not sensitive to that at all. I have no problem laying my head down. Right. After I get, you know, a nasty email or something, it doesn't bother me, but I am sensitive to like my sister, Carrie, if she were to call me crying, I would be really affected by that.  So I am sensitive to certain things, my husband, my sister my animals, you know, my two dogs, that kind of thing, but I'm pretty desensitized to most things. There's only a couple of things that really get to me

Assumption #6 - when you make commitments, you keep them you're never late to appointments.

Answer: This is a hundred percent correct. I always keep my commitments, always keep my word. I am never late to appointments. Never if. Ever late to an appointment, something bad has happened to me. If my ever late to an appointment there has been an emergency seriously there, I was just recording a podcast.  I was a podcast guest on another girl's podcast. She was four minutes late starting the podcast. I stood there for four minutes to me. That's absolutely unacceptable here. A few months ago I had. Two employees that I was meeting for breakfast and I rearranged my whole schedule to meet him for breakfast.  And they were 15 minutes late. And that is the epitome. Of rudeness. That is the epitome of disrespect. And I, I mean, it is, there's just, no, there's no reason for that. And so I will never be late and I will never, if I have to cancel something has got to be blood or bones or it's gotta be something that's absolutely like a serious situation.  If I'm canceling never late. No, I have no tolerance for people who are. Zero.

Assumption #7 -  is that you eat everyone's leftovers.

Answer: Yes. This is Marley. My friend Marley and Marley. Yes, you can't. There is no food is safe around me. I eat everyone's leftovers. You can't keep food. Now. Marley is very small.  She's like 115 hundred and 20 pounds. And we went on a trip to Austin together. She went on a trip and I invited myself to go along and. She, and I were, you know, I mean, I weigh her by freaking 40 pounds. Like I am, I'm a lot bigger than her, so I eat a lot more food than her, but the way that she has been able to keep her weight down, she doesn't need very much and she doesn't work out very much.  So she doesn't eat very much. So. Would have something and then she would eat half of it and then save half of it later. Well, no way, man. I was coming up behind her, like a lawnmower and eating all of her food and eating my food too. So the assumption is I eat everyone's leftovers and yes, that is true. I eat everyone's leftovers.

Today on Rebel Weight Loss and Lifestyle Cristy and Cari talk all about sleep and more importantly tracking your sleep to get better sleep.

We use a scale to track our weight loss but so many do not do anything to track their sleep.

(Cari 10:33)  Since I got the watch and not the watch itself, but being aware of my sleep has changed.  My sleep habits, just having a number and knowing where I need to improve, because you could get beautiful amount in each sleep stage, but if you didn't quite get enough time altogether, your sleep score is lower.
 
(Cristy 15:34)  Any food in my stomach will, will make me toss and turn I'll get up. I won't feel good and my sleep score will be like an 82 and that's that's low for me
 
(Cristy 15:50)  You need to be moving in a direction of improvements. So if you are normally in the sixties, since you've been on code red. You're now 77, 81. This is a massive improvement of your normal set. Now, if I had a 71, I would be catatonic
 
(Cari 27:00) You can even track your mood, the phone like this, and they're kicking my mood in I'm teasing. I'm teasing. So there's a lot of Fitbit really does try to do great thing.  And I appreciate that, but really the sleep and the alarm alone and being able to analyze, oh, that's when that time in the morning, the light comes in and that always wakes me up at four

After one of my VIP clients wrote to me recently and said “I didn’t do this” and “I didn’t do that,” with “this and that” being all the Code Red rules I have in place for a reason, I remember thinking this:

“What makes YOU so special that you think you’re outside the rules?”

Look, we've ALL thought we were outside the rules at some point.

Maybe it’s because of your work schedule.

Or that you have kids.

Or that you're taking care of an elderly parent.

The thing is, the rules to consistent weight loss are the rules to consistent weight loss, and they don't bend for any of the reasons you think you "can't" follow them...

Because ain't nobody getting out of the rules.

Not me. Not Cari. Not our dad, Larry, or our mom, Carole.

Not even Oprah, Barack Obama, or Donald Trump get out of the rules, because it doesn't matter who you are.

When it comes to losing weight and keeping it off, it's 100% of the rules 100% of the time if you want 100% of the results.

So yeah, you can continue to think you're outside the rules...

Or you can follow them, consistently, to get and keep your weight off.

Congratulations! You've stopped blaming the world...now stop getting mad at your body.

Anger is a very powerful motivator and more often than not, it leads to (further) destruction. You can't shame yourself into good health. You only ruin your health further when you don't recognize that your body needs love, time and patience.

You took the time to drive over to your favorite fast food chain. You were patient enough to wait in line for that scrumptious taco meal. No doubt, you loved eating all that food and you couldn't get enough of it.

Am I right? Yes? Perfect! Looks like we've established that you actually have the most important resources you need to improve your health. We just need to tweak where you focus using those resources on.

Take time to start on the weight loss program that you signed up for. Take a step at a time. Be patient enough to follow your program and celebrate your victories with the reward system. You are accountable for loving your body until you can't get enough of its growth and progress.

It is not a quick and easy journey. Somewhere along the way, you may feel the need to run the other way...but we're telling you that you don't have to. We are here to support you in your journey and we will love you for all that you are.

In this new podcast episode, I'm talking about the top three things I would change if I were to start Code Red over again.

Code Red’s been around for fourteen years. It was 2017 when it really took off.

The way I run things now is different in a lot of ways than how I ran things back then.

Some things I absolutely would not change, but some things I for sure would.

What I hope you'll take away from this episode is:

  1. Stuff's always gonna happen that you can't predict, but it can't be an excuse not to take action (0r you'll never get anywhere).

  2. You can't change what happened in the past. You can only learn from it and use those lessons to make better decisions moving forward.

  3. No matter what you do, not everyone's going to like it when you're YOU. Conforming to what "everyone else" thinks of you is a sure way to feel resentful and miserable for most of your life.

A common barrier to staying on track is being mentally exhausted from making tons of decisions all day.

The more decisions you have to make, the more friction it creates in your life, and the more mentally wiped out you feel. This phenomenon is called decision fatigue.

(It's why you start out strong in the morning and feel like cheating by the end of the day. Your willpower is highest first thing in the morning because you haven't really used it yet.)

My Certified Coaches all have busy lives full of decisions to make and problems to solve, so for this week's episode, I asked them to share their tips for streamlining their lives and, in so doing, setting themselves up for success.

They offered up several great and SIMPLE strategies that reduce friction, ease decision fatigue, and make it easier to stay on track.

I also added some things I do to help me stay on track and do the things I've committed to doing.

We came up with about twenty-five different things you can do to streamline your life and reduce the number of decisions you have to make.

I'm 48 at the time of this writing, and I've been in a few relationships and a few marriages. A couple of those relationships were toxic.

For all of them, I wish I would have known then what I know now.

But I’m a better person now for having gone through them (particularly the most recent one from 2023), because I learned so much about myself.

I learned what I don’t want and what I DO want.

I’ve been in this industry for over 30 years, and I’ve learned that even small steps, taken CONSISTENTLY, will get you where you wanna be.

I've also learned that a lot of people fall prey to the “all or nothing mindset," which is an outlook that says, "If I can't do it perfectly, I'm not doing it at all."

A lot of people are either all in or they’re all out. It’s understandable that if you’re wanting to do something, you want to do it right and dedicate everything you have to it.

But refusing to do ANYTHING if you can't do EVERYTHING is a recipe for failure.

Small steps are better than no steps.

And as much as I love seeing people go all-in with Code Red...

I'd still rather they do something than nothing.

(That's why I encourage people to start with a 10 Pound Takedown. It's only 30 days of doing the simple basics.)

Not all days are going to be good days, and on those not-so-good days, the most important thing you can do is SOMETHING, because the days you struggle are the days that matter most.

Life doesn't stop throwing you curveballs just because you're on a weight loss journey.

A divorce, the death of a loved one, getting fired, sick kids, losing a pet...the rollercoaster of life never stops while you’re still alive.

A lot of people try to find stability in unstable times by eating themselves into obesity and disease...which only creates MORE instability.

I remember a 1:1 client I had about seven years ago. Her mom died during her program with me, and I asked her if she needed to pause the program for a bit.

"No, I don't want to, because this is something I can control," she told me.

In a situation you can't control or predict, the best way to feel in control is to focus on what you actually CAN control.

And what you can always control are your thoughts, choices, and actions...
