30 May 2021The Journey and History of Indian Military | Mahabharat Age to 1908AD00:19:55

The distinguished history of Indian Army dates back more than ten thousand years. The two grand epics of ‘Ramayana’ and ‘Mahabharata’ constitute the fundamental framework around which the edifice of Indian Army is built.

Though innumerable wars have been fought thereafter, most were in quest of universal peace and ‘dharma’. Recourse to arms was only taken when peace was threatened. In fact the word 'peace' forms the very core of Indian philosophy, which can most aptly be traced to one of India's ancient scriptures known as the ‘Yajurveda’. It is stated in verse, the English translation of which reads - “May the sky be peaceful; may the atmosphere be peaceful; may the earth be peaceful; may eternal peace cometh upon us”.

13 Jun 2021The Journey and History of Indian Military 2 | First world war 1909 to second world war 194700:26:35

On 28 June 1914 the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the heir apparent to the Austrian Empire, at Sarajevo in Bosnia was the main cause of World War-1 (1914-18).

Tension between the major European power had, however, been growing for some time, fuelled mainly by Germany’s ambition to be the major power in Europe and as a competitor to Britain in Commerce and trade. This had led to the formation of two power blocks in Europe, the Triple Alliance of Germany, Austria and Hungary; and the Triple Entente of England, French and Russia. Few would have imagined that the pistol shots in Sarajevo would lead to a brutal four year war and would draw in most of the world. Last of all did the Indian Army expect to be pulled out of fighting Pathans to fighting Germans and the Turks.

The Indian Army, at the start of World War-II (1939-45), had a strength of 1,94,373 personnel; just a little more than at the start of World War-I.

In the Western Desert, in Eritrea and Italy, Indian Divisions engaged the Germans and Italians. The 4th, 5th and 8th Indian Divisions distinguished themselves in a series of hard-fought campaigns. A time came when the British 8th Army depended on the 4th Division to crack up Axis formations in their long and final retreat.

“There are no winners in an war  and it only brings destruction .”

Tune in to know bravery of Indian Army in World wars in this episode

25 Jul 2021Warriors of Kargil ft. Brig Umesh Singh Bawa01:20:58

The Kargil War, also known as the Kargil conflict was an armed conflict fought between India and Pakistan from May to July 1999 in the Kargil district of Kashmir and elsewhere along the Line of Control (LoC). In India, the conflict is also referred to as Operation Vijay, which was the name of the Indian military operation to clear out the Kargil sector.

The war is the most recent example of high-altitude warfare in mountainous terrain, and as such, posed significant logistical problems for the combating sides. It is also the sole instance of direct, conventional warfare between nuclear states (i.e., those possessing nuclear weapons).

How did the Indian Army against all odds take the enemy head-on?

This episode takes you 22 years back in the Kargil operation area through Kargil war veteran Brig Umesh Singh Bawa, Vrc, SM.

Brig Umesh Singh Bawa, VrC, SM, commissioned in 17th battalion the Jat regiment in Jun1978. He is an alumnus of the National DefenceAcademy, Defence Services Staff College, and Higher Command Course. He commanded 17 Jat during the Kargil war and was awarded Vir Chakra during the operations. His unit was tasked to capture the Pimple Complex, part of point 4875 in Mashkoh valley. He has served in various staff and command appointments in the Army. He has been an instructor in Infantry School, Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School and Indian Military Academy. He retired from service on 31 Dec 2013. He is a PhD in Public Administration. He is now settled in Gurgaon along with wife Indu.

Recently in Nov 2021, he has authored a book “Mashkoh: Kargil as I saw it” where he recounts his firsthand experience of the battle as it unfolded before him. The book captures the tales of courage, humor, emotions, tragic losses, and hard-won victories in the extremely challenging high-altitude terrain of Kargil, where many believed that the mission was impossible. This book isn’t meant to be an individual glorified war story, nor it is intended to belittle any leader for the lapses committed during the war. The book captures those lessons of war for future generations so that as new wars begin and end, such crucial lessons will not have to be relearned- rewritten in more blood.

Please tune in to listen to the exciting story of Kargil Operation Vijay

21 Nov 2021Role of Engineers in the Indian Army ft. Col Rajiv Gaur00:43:20

The Corps of Engineers is one of the oldest arms of the Indian Army. The origin of the Corps dates back to 1780 when the two regular pioneer companies of the Madras Sappers were raised. Subsequently, the Group of Madras, Bengal and Bombay Sappers were formed and later merged on 18 November 1932 to form the Corps of Engineers in its present form. The Corps of Engineers consists of four major constituents namely Combat Engineers, MES , Border Roads and Military Survey.

In war, Combat Engineers provide mobility to own forces by constructing bridges, tracks and helipads; on the other hand the Corps denies the same to the enemy by creating obstacles such as laying mine-fields and demolition of bridges.

Do you have in you and want to join Corps of Engineers

20 Mar 2022Tanks – India’s Most Fearsome Fighting Armoured Vehicle00:49:32

A tank is an armored fighting vehicle intended as a primary offensive weapon in front-line ground combat. Tank designs are a balance of heavy firepower, strong armor, and good battlefield mobility provided by tracks and a powerful engine; usually their main armament is mounted in a turret. Modern tanks are versatile mobile land weapons platforms whose main armament is a large-caliber tank gun mounted in a rotating gun turret, supplemented by machine guns or other ranged weapons such as anti-tank guided missiles or rocket launchers.

Fully integrating tanks into modern military forces spawned a new era of combat: armored warfare.

Are Tanks still relevant in modern warfare ?
