20 Dec 2021 | 5.20 Depressed | 00:10:40
We all struggle with feelings of depression and despair from time to time. Some of us may battle depression chronically or be diagnosed even with clinical depression, while others of us dip into short bouts now and then. If depression is an ongoing struggle, may I encourage you to get help from a medical professional, and get honest with God about it too? Bring your feelings of despair to the Lord in prayer and process this hard emotion with Him. Even if you aren't struggling with depression right now, take some time to pray along with us so that when you do face times of despair, you'll know how to pray your way through them.

28 Sep 2020 | BONUS 4: When God Seems Silent… | 00:09:57
Do you ever feel like your prayers hit the ceiling? Like God is silent in response to your prayerful pleas? What if what we think is God’s silence is actually noise pollution--a cacophony of sounds surrounding us that drowns out His still small voice? This week, we’re exploring the “S” in the REST acronym: “Seek God’s Stillness,” as we pray through Psalm 131. I encourage you to take time each day this week to practice seeking God's stillness, perhaps even listening to this episode multiple times. Though it may be hard at first, being still with God becomes easier with practice, just like any other skill. As we learn to be still, we may discover that what we thought was silence was really God’s soft whispers all along. This episode is based on the Prayers of REST Bible study (available on Amazon here) and is made possible by generous listeners like you. 18 Jan 2021 | Season 3 TRAILER: Uncovering the Love of Jesus | 00:07:58
There's a powerful link between knowing the love of Jesus and being filled with God's presence. Paul gives us a clue when he prays that believers would "have power [...] to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge" (see Ephesians 3:17-19). If you're struggling to overcome sin, if you're anxious about the future, if you're wrestling with a difficult relationship, if you feel lonely or unsure about God's love for you, I hope you tune in to Season 3 of the Prayers of REST podcast. We'll turn our attention to the deep, deep love of Jesus in our new series, starting February 1. I'll be basing the weekly prayers on my Lent devotional: Uncovering the Love of Jesus. If you'd like to follow along and go even deeper, make sure you order it at uncoveringthelove.com soon so you'll get it in time. And if you’ve been blessed by Prayers of REST, please leave a 5-star rating and review so others can find this podcast too. Thank you for helping spread the word! Until we meet again, may you rest in God’s loving presence. Music: “Farewell,” by Colby Taylor.--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/prayersofrest/message

21 Sep 2020 | BONUS 3: Why we don't have to hide from God | 00:09:42
While we might try to hide our weaknesses from others, we don't need to hide our needs from God. Not only does He already know them, but He wants us to humbly come to Him and Express Our Neediness. That's the "E" in the REST prayer acronym. And that's what this week's Prayers of REST podcast episode is all about, based on 1 John 5:14-15: This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him. Oh friends, what a gift that our God welcomes us to come to Him just as we are, but never sends us away just as we came. He is a good Father, and we can confidently express our needs to Him. This episode is based on the Prayers of REST Bible study (available on Amazon here) and is made possible by generous listeners like you. 27 Dec 2021 | 5.22 Season Wrap-up with Hannah Nitz | 00:36:12
This week, we're wrapping up our season of Hard Emotions with a conversation with Hannah Nitz. She is a personal friend and a woman who has such a great desire to know and love God more. She's also the host of the podcast There's More. Which is all about - You guessed it! - How much more there is too knowing and loving God, even for someone who grew up in the church. As you look back on this fall, do you look a little more like Jesus than you did at the start? If you answered "I think so. Yes, I can see a little (or a lot) of growth!" I would love to hear your story! How has God been using this season to help you get honest about your Hard Emotions and bring them to Him? Go to the Prayers of REST website, scroll down and click the microphone on the left side of the page to leave me a quick voice message. 11 Oct 2021 | SEASON 5 TRAILER: Praying Through Hard Emotions | 00:08:32
There's a myth that good Christians shouldn't struggle with hard emotions, that we should always be joyful and at peace. But the truth is that we live in a broken world where bad things happen to good people. We all struggle with hard emotions. That’s exactly why this season on the Prayers of REST podcast we’re Praying Through Hard Emotions. So often we’re embarrassed to admit that we struggle with anger, anxiety, or depression, but when we bring these emotions to God, when we’re honest with Him about the hard things we're facing, that's when He starts working. When was the last time YOU talked with God about the hard emotions you're experiencing? If you’re dealing with guilt, anger, envy, loneliness, or any of dozens of hard emotions, then join us on October 11 as we:
I promise you that when you place these emotions in God’s hands, He will take what is hard and turn it into something good. That’s the way of our Good Father.
I hope these cards remind you to turn your face toward Jesus no matter what hard emotion you’re facing each day. This week Angie prays with me through John 15:5-8, meditating on how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit all work together to bear much fruit in our lives. 17 Feb 2022 | SEASON 6 TRAILER: Praying Through Tricky Relationships | 00:06:54
Do you ever struggle to pray for certain people in your life? Maybe they're in a situation that you just can't relate to, or maybe they've hurt you in some way. If we're honest, there are even times when we don't want to pray for that person at all... That's why this season on the Prayers of REST Podcast we're praying through Tricky Relationships. Yes, we're going there. If you've ever struggled with your mother-in-law or daughter-in-law... We're going there. And if you're wondering how to pray for your neighbor, your unbelieving friend, or the person who's political views are the complete opposite of yours... We're going there too. I can't promise you that these relationships will get any easier by the end of this season, but I can promise you that as we bring these Tricky Relationships to God, he will give us His peace as we learn to REST in His loving presence together. So are you ready? Here we go!
21 Feb 2022 | 6.1 Why it's Hard to Pray for Certain People | 00:37:32
Do you ever have a hard time praying for certain people in your life? Then listen in as Angie Elkins, Kindra Stanton, and I talk about why it can be so hard to find the words to say when we pray for certain people. You'll hear us share specific examples of tricky relationships that we personally have a hard time praying for as well as a sneak peak into a few of the tricky relationships that we will be praying through this season on the Prayers of REST podcast. Angie Elkins is the editor for the Prayers of REST podcast and also hosts her own show Chatologie with Angie Elkins. Her podcast moves people closer to God and each other by starting conversations that matter. In 2020 she launched Angie Elkins Media, where along with her team, she edits and produces multiple podcasts including Prayers of REST, The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey, Your Enneagram Coach the podcast, and The Glass House with Ben & Lynley Mandrell. Angie also loves teaching others to launch their podcasts and thrive as podcasters at thepodcastcoach.org. You can find her on Instagram at @angiebrownelkins. Kindra Stanton is the production manager for the Prayers of REST Podcast and is also my ministry assistant! She is passionate about the Word of God and loves teaching women and girls how to read their Bibles well. You can find her on instagram at @kinda_kindra. Are you excited about this new season? Then text a few friends and start a Prayers of REST prayer group! Pray for each other, encourage each other, and maybe once a month try to meet together for a time of live prayer together. Why? Because we learn how to pray not by reading a book about prayer or listening to a sermon about prayer, but by actually praying together. Until we meet again, may you find rest in God’s loving presence.
