  • Nonprofits often start with one person, one family, or one traumatic experience.
  • Understanding the goal of the organization and making strategies out of it.
  • And much more!

About Anna Schardt Baker:

Hi, I’m Anna.

While I always have a magazine, book or Kindle in hand, my love of words extends well beyond prolific reading and writing. As a communicator and storyteller I’m fascinated by how information is organized, presented and consumed. I’m also a “nonprofit girl” at heart, one who feels most at home when working for a great cause.

After I earned my B.A. in Professional Writing from Carnegie Mellon University (ask me about the great city of Pittsburgh!), I enjoyed a four-year stint in educational publishing before transitioning to nonprofit marketing communications. Over the next decade I held a progressive series of leadership roles that focused on digital engagement, strategic communications and storytelling.

In 2017 I took a big, deep breath and leapt into independent consulting. I founded Three Story Strategies, and today I serve a variety of clients in the nonprofit, association and agency spaces. While much of my experience is in the realms of public health and patient education, I love to apply my experience to new topics and industries.

I live just miles from our nation’s capital in Arlington, Virginia, with my darling husband, three energetic children and two overly affectionate cats. But one of the best parts about my work is that it can take me anywhere.

When you hire Three Story Strategies, you get the big-picture vision of an experienced strategist combined with the attention to detail you’d expect from a professional writer and editor. I pride myself on high standards, rigorous project management, devotion to deadlines and love of style guides. Whether it’s through a case study, annual report or blog series — let’s tell your organization’s story, together!

Join Lori and her guest, Cecilia Razak, as they talk about how a company or product can provide value to customers and have a positive social impact. • How a business pivot resulted in the creation of Slides with Friends
  • The social impact aspect of corporate philanthropy
  • Building a tool that creates value for its users
  • And much more!

About Slides with Friends:

We were elbow-deep in growing a startup when the 2020 pandemic hit. We went from a big team in multiple cities and growing, to doing one tenth of our revenue. We dropped our growth plans and moved everything we could remote. All hands meetings were the hardest. Personally, we were lucky to be able to quarantine in our home. Feeling close with friends and family was the hardest.

We started building Slides as a side project that was part wishful thinking, part wish fulfillment. We wanted to make being far from all of our people easier. We wanted to make meetings smoother and more fun. We wanted to have video calls with our friends without talking over each other or getting zoom fatigue. We wanted my mom's birthday to still be special.

And we wanted to help everyone going through this to have those things, as well. So this is a presentation tool that's got a bigger goal; keeping people connected while apart. We hope it can help you do that too.

As a past volunteer with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), The Make A Wish Foundation, and serving as big sister with the Big Brothers / Big Sisters, elevating the wellbeing of our youth matters to her. This program was designed to help youth better understand how to Nourish the Body and the Mind and has reached over 2,000 children and their families in NJ, NY, and PA over the past 5 years. The program recently evolved into a school-wide and student-led mental health wellness fair. About Ashlee Sang:

I found my way to marketing and communications via an unconventional mix of Anthropology, Linguistics, and French at Washington University in St. Louis. (All of which influence my current work, believe it or not.)

Before launching my business full-time in 2019, I worked with nonprofits, including a law school alumni department, an international headquarters of a human rights education NGO, and a county branch of Habitat for Humanity. I also freelanced on the side for many years, not knowing at the time that I was preparing for entrepreneurship.

By combining these experiences with the conscious consumerism movement I was exploring in my personal life, I discovered brand messaging and marketing strategy and business for good. I’ve never looked back.

I’ve since worked with over 70 businesses on everything from brand development and media list building to content creation and copywriting, always with values and audience-driven messaging at the core.

  • Another Tomorrow's sustainable and holistic approach to fashion
  • Different ways of informing consumers about your philanthropic causes

Another Another Tomorrow:

I started Another Tomorrow in January 2018, while on a sabbatical from my former career in emerging markets finance.

The original purpose of this break was to take a pause and reorient my career toward sustainable finance. However, as I began to dig deeper into the root problems of many of our global challenges, I was surprised and devastated by what I found in the apparel industry and its enormous impact on people, the environment, and animals.

Clear information was difficult to come by, and the more I educated myself, finding clothing I felt good about became even harder. Realizing I couldn’t just ‘unknow’ what I now knew, I felt a responsibility and a purpose I couldn’t ignore.

My mission is to create a truly sustainable and compassionate company with a three-pronged approach of providing a foundational wardrobe of ethically and responsibly made clothing, education, and a platform for activism to amplify our collective voices.

Another Tomorrow is the result of an incredible collaborative effort across our team and suppliers around the world. I’m so grateful for each of them and look forward to introducing you to everyone who has helped bring this vision to life.

07 Apr 2021Episode 00 - Introduction00:10:29

Before we get into other people’s stories on Positive Impact Philanthropy, it might be better to hear how our host, Lori Kranczer, fell into the rabbit hole of philanthropy.

In this episode, you’ll have a glimpse of Lori’s life and career, what she’s been through in the industry, and what makes her mind tick. We'll also hear what great things are in store for you in the upcoming episodes.

Whether it’s giving back to businesses, sitting back on a nonprofit board, impact investing, or wherever you might be in your journey, we hope you get inspired by the stories we’ll share!

About Lori Kranczer:

Hi, I am Lori.  I am a legacy giving consultant that works with nonprofit professionals and leadership to create strong, sustainable legacy giving programs.

I have always had a passion for philanthropy and was lucky to be able to apply my legal career to connect with the causes I love.

I have been in the nonprofit space for 20 years, creating and running several substantial legacy program initiatives for large nonprofits.  I started my consulting practice 2 years ago so that I can bring my expertise to many organizations to make their programs soar. I do this through several step-by-step programs that provides my clients everything they need to exceed their goals.

When I am not helping nonprofit pros, I tinker with my creaky 100-year-old Victorian house in Brooklyn, NY, listen to 90s grunge music and chase after my 2 little "legacies."

07 Apr 2021Episode 02 - An Interview with Jennifer Sapel CEO of UTOR Wealth00:25:54

Join Lori and her guest, Jennifer Sapel, as they talk about our money mindset. Jennifer is the CEO of Utor Wealth, which primarily helps women financial decisions with confidence. • Understanding how you feel about money.
  • Connecting your identity to the people and organizations you support.
  • And much more!

About Jennifer Sapel:

I’ve done my fair share of wrestling with money.  Growing up, it was a subject wrapped in a lot of mystery and stress.  As a type A first born, I initially went to the other extreme, dedicated to conquering it, I bought my first home at 21 years old.  Then after almost two decades of working in financial services professionally, I realized I, and people like me, weren’t the only one who needed a perspective change around money.  We’ve got some work to do in most of our systems:  education, financial services, and families….to make healthier decisions around money.

Most of what we see and learn about personal finance are a series of quantifiable do’s and don’ts. Many financial plans are just elaborate spreadsheets projecting different scenarios in the future.  These are helpful tools that often fall short of acknowledging life is often messier than the neat cells of an excel worksheet.

Along with Utor Wealth, I’m a wife to Kansas born Melvin.  We live on a few acres in the PacNW with our two boys under age 3 (this is where systems are critical), two dogs (Jack & Jill), modest whiskey collection, and lego filled home.  As a family, we love to travel, dabble in the garden, eat, laugh, ride bikes and host informal gatherings (at least pre/post pandemic) where we can do as many of these things at once.
