25 Apr 2018 | Bonus: Our Student's Financial Health Matters | 00:12:20
April 25th, 2018 is Financial Health Matters Day, a.k.a. #FinHealthMatters Day. This day was created by CFSI to bring attention to America’s financial health. This year the focus is specifically on the financial health of our students.
There are so many financial issues plaguing future, current & past students
-Rising tuition costs-
-More than $1.3 Trillion in student loan debt-
-Lack of financial education in our school system-
Because this situation is affects student's financial health in so many ways, this issue cannot be fixed by addressing just one area. We need to look at the financial situation of our students as a whole.

04 Apr 2022 | 294: Is Hustle Culture Bad for Your Wallet? | 00:10:46
I came across a controversial tweet that read, “If you’re getting 8 hours of sleep every night, you aren’t working hard enough.” This reminded me of another statement I recently heard: “If you aren’t earning 6 figures, you aren’t working hard enough.” Each week I join Natalie Lizarraga on NBCLX to discuss the latest finance topics. In today’s episode you’ll hear our discussion on how hustle culture has us believing these false statements and how we can create our own definition of success that doesn’t revolve around what we earn.

22 Nov 2017 | Bonus Episode: BLACK FRIDAY GIVEAWAY! | 00:07:35
Visit PopcornFinance.com/BlackFriday for the show notes & how to enter. No purchase necessary.
I hate Black Friday. I hate it because I used to work in retail when I was in college. I would have to wake up between 2 and 3 am the next morning after enjoying my thanksgiving dinner to go to work. I would be there for at least 12 hours. It would be a very, very long day.
So, because of the trauma that I suffered on this day I will be doing a special giveaway. I will be giving away a 1 (one) month subscription to Netflix to incentivize people to stay home. You can just stay at home all day on black Friday and watch all the stuff that is on there.
This giveaway will run from 11/21/17 through 11/23/17 at 12pm pst. There will be two ways for you to enter in to this giveaway.
-First if you are not already subscribed to the Popcorn Finance Podcast, subscribe via your podcast player of choice. Send a screenshot showing that you subscribed to contest@popcornfinance.com.
-If you are already a subscriber, leave a review for the Popcorn Finance Podcast in the Apple podcast app or wherever you listen. Send a screenshot of your review to contest@popcornfinance.com.
-For either submission please put Black Friday Giveaway or Netflix Giveaway in the subject line.
I will do a random drawing of all submissions and notify the winner by 11pm pst on 11/23/17.
This giveaway is completely free. No purchase necessary. Just subscribe to the free Popcorn Finance Podcast or leave a review for the Popcorn Finance Podcast.
However, you must promise that if you win this you will not go out shopping on Black Friday. That is part of the deal (No, not really). But it would be great if you didn’t harass those people that are just trying to do their job.

On today’s episode, we are talking about the impact of the Child Tax Credit expansion by the Biden administration in 2021. This expansion expired at the end of December 2021, so today I want to talk about the impact this credit had on families, along with the loss of this credit.
To do that, I have Leigh Phillips joining me. Leigh is the CEO of Saverlife, a nonprofit that uses data and technology to help members save money, along with pushing for better policies and a more just economic system across the country. Leigh and I discuss how the Child Tax Credit provided stability for families, including creating stabilization of savings accounts. We also talk about how Saverlife is tracking what other impacts these monthly payments have had on families, along with the impact of losing this child credit, which they will continue tracking over the next several months.

30 May 2023 | 382: Am I Paying Down My Debt Too Fast? | 00:09:41
Is aggressively paying off your debt causing other areas of your life to suffer?
Years ago my wife and I accumulated over $27k worth of debt and it haunted me every day until I paid it off. Credit card interest rates are some of the highest and debt can feel like a dark cloud hanging over you until it's paid off. However, after reading an article from Elizabeth Gravier that outlines four signs that you’re paying off your debt too fast, it made me think about that time in my life and what I might’ve done differently. Hopefully, today’s episode helps give you a new perspective on how you can pay down your debt without going broke or unnecessarily suffering.
