23 Aug 2017070 Fiber Alchemist Francoise Danoy transforms knitters with confidence00:50:29

In this episode Kara talks to knitwear designer and regular coaching client, Francoise Danoy. Francoise is a self-proclaimed Yarn Alchemist: she transforms yarn into knitwear designs for her tribe of Fibre Muses to enjoy, and also teaches others how to become Yarn Alchemists themselves. Her mission is to evolve and grow, and right now the way she does that is by helping her Fibre Muses dive deep into themselves to find their creativity and magic. As a result of working with Francoise, a knitter can transform her yarn into a piece of fiber art, as well as discover and benefit from the magical properties of knitting, in order to create a more meaningful experience.

“Knitting is a quiet kind of magic that not only allows us to take a skein of yarn and transform in into something new, but connects us to our past, helps us stay grounded in the present and shapes our future.”

01 Nov 2017075 How to start a dreamy fiber biz working with craft magazines00:21:40

Today I'm answering a common question among budding knitwear designers: "Should I design for magazines?" We'll go over the main items you should consider before submitting a design proposal to a magazine, as well as my top tips for success in this area. If you've been wanting to grow your knitwear design biz, give this episode a listen!

[Tweet "Should you design for magazines? Weigh the pros and cons with this week's episode of the #PowerPurlsPodcast #knitweardesign"]

Episode highlights:

  • It can be tempting to work for "exposure," hoping that will turn you into a superstar.
  • Designing for magazines usually means you will get paid for your work, which is a big benefit!
  • Once you know how much time it will take you to create a design and how much they'll pay, work the numbers.
  • Remember: there's also a marketing benefit for magazine design! Your work gets out to a wider audience.
  • Connection can be a benefit as well. Working with a magazine can connect you with influencers in the industry.
  • Keep your eyes open for opportunities to form connections each time you collaborate on a design.
  • Think about what you can offer above and beyond just sending in a pattern. Solve a pain point for the editor!
  • Rights can be a tricky area for magazine design. For at least some time, the pattern rights will belong to the publication.
  • Make sure you understand the rights agreement and if/when the rights revert to you!
  • Remember that the photos in the magazine don't belong to you; if you republish a design, take your own photos.
  • Even if the rights don't revert back to you at all, that's not necessarily a bad thing! Just make sure you're comfortable with the arrangement.
  • Make sure the fit is right: does your work fit with the magazine and its audience? If not, find another one.
  • Think like a businessperson: tailor your proposal/submission to the magazine you're trying to impress!
  • Kara's tip #1: Keep trying until you get a YES! (No matter how many Nos you hear before that!)
  • Being turned down by one magazine - or ten- does NOT mean that your work isn't good enough!
  • Sometimes rejection just means your work didn't fit their theme or they had too many similar submissions.
  • Kara's tip #2: Be professional! Put together a nice portfolio of your work to show the editor!
  • Study how other designers are using Instagram well to present their portfolios.
  • Maintain a professional website - it's like your virtual home base and it speaks volumes about you and your work.
  • Follow the guidelines and format that the magazine specifies in their calls for proposals.
  • Kara's tip #3: Diversify! Don't put all your eggs in one basket - publish your work in a variety of places.
  • Be aware: If you send your designs out to different magazines, you can't send the same design to more than one place!
  • Never send a previously published design as a proposal to a magazine. All designs must be original.
  • Bonus tip: don't knit your own samples! Hire sample knitters - it will save you a ton of time.

03 Feb 2017055 Meet the Ultimate Fiber Boss, Chelsea Fitch!00:47:50

Chelsea Fitch was drawn to yarn as a child - the colors just sucked her in and mesmerized her from her youth. Fast forward years later, when Chelsea was living in Japan and she learned how to knit. She started with continental knitting and she could not get enough of it. She quickly consumed everything she could about knitting and learned all she could. Something told her to start making videos of her knitting and that was the catalyst for what has turned into Chelsea’s knitting empire. 01 Apr 2020117 Why You Need a Plan Now More Than Ever00:16:59

With all the lockdowns and kids at home from school, it's so easy to allow our brain to go to the extreme and think only in worst-case scenario. With patience and a plan, you can identify what is within your control and let go of the rest.

We CAN choose PROACTIVITY, not reactivity.

Now more than ever, we can "live into the future" and create a new set of beliefs and possibilities ... paint a new picture. We can use this as an opportunity to grow, not shrink, hide or run the other way.

What you'll learn in this episode:

  • Why creating a plan gives you power and confidence
  • Focus on what is in your control and let go of the rest
  • Why hitting the pause button in your life gives clarity
  • Living in the moment = stillness and abundance
  • Time management as a form of "mind management"
  • How NOT to choose victimhood

A rising tide really does lift all boats, and this is OUR TIME to show up and to think in a whole new way.

We have a great opportunity right now to get scrappy and discover new things and the solution is right in front of you. You just have to be open to it.

A crisis intensifies what is already there that we may not be facing. If we are open to it, we will see with clarity what our real WORK is.

11 Mar 2020114 Easy Peasy Planning SECRETS (Part 3) Resistance Makes You Create Excuses00:26:04

Do you find all the reasons to not do what you say you will? Your reptilian brain is screaming: "me no wanna! I just want to knit and Netflix!"

How can you possibly resist? The idea of knitting is perfect considering it's been a long day, and you really want to watch that docuseries on Netflix. "I deserve to kick back," you tell yourself.

What is at play here is resistance. We choose to do what feels good instead of the things that will help us reach our great potential.

Resistance is so sneaky because it will always convince us to doing something that feels good instead of doing what's hard.

We find all the excuses … I’m hungry … I’m tired. I’m sick.

So many things that seem believable and then before you know it, your goals become wishes.

What happens when resistance comes for a visit:

  • When things get hard, we look for things that make us feel good

  • This is our primitive brain kicking in. IT. WILL. WIN if you let it

  • Natural tendency - we want to always seek comfort

  • We would rather take the path of least resistance

  • Humans by nature are lazy

  • The GOOD NEWS - this means you are a normal functioning human

How to overcome it:

  • Plan for it! It's not a matter of IF, it's a matter of WHEN

  • Get comfortable with being uncomfortable

  • You will allow the urge to NOT do what you say you will do.

  • The payoff of discomfort? You get to reach your ULTIMATE goals.

Discomfort is the currency of your dreams.

-Brooke Castillo

When it comes to planning, simple and scrappy is my philosophy.

Planning starts with just one sheet of paper and I show you how in this episode!

No fancy bells or whistles …

Just YOU, a pen and paper and your earbuds to listen to this episode!

Planning is the runway ... then you take off and fly!

25 Mar 2020116 Home with the kiddos survival guide00:09:28
Home with the kids?

This episode is for you my friend!

So I’ve been struggling with having my son home and I’ll be totally transparent — this has been my MO every time there’s a snow day, or a holiday. I would act as if it was a surprise and it snuck up on me and it does not need to be that way. WHY do I allow this?

Why is planning in this one area of my life (the most important) not managed well?

Working from home and balancing work and family is tough. It’s so easy to plug the kids in.

So here’s what I did - I sat down and mapped out a daily schedule for my son and I decided this had to happen as my top priority.

There are always gifts from a challenge … a struggle. It’s funny how finally making this happen came out of necessity based on the crisis we are all dealing with.

A rising tide lifts all boats — and so I’ve decided to do my part and share what I created for my son with you.

You can get it on my website. karagottwarner.com and you’ll see a button on the top called “Home with Kiddos Survival Guide."

31 Dec 2020130 Perfectly Imperfect with Heather Beardsley01:05:15

In this episode, I'm joined by my friend and fellow certified life and weight coach, Heather Beardsley who helps women to thrive in midlife. We riff on the topic of perfectionism and how this keeps us stuck in scarcity. We share oodles of inspiration and truth bombs to help you get unstuck, and our own personal vulnerability and willingness (even though it's hard!) to let go of the bonds of perfection. We shed light on why saying YES to imperfection is the green light to take a deep breath and relax and become the "curious watcher" on the journey to your authenticity.

18 Feb 2020111 The 3 Things that Keep You from Reaching Your Creative Goals00:30:32

Today we're talking about the 3 "dream stealers" that keep us from carrying out our best-laid plans.

I also teach these in free time management workshop for the creative woman. Reserve your spot now by going to karagottwarner.com/tameyourtime

This will be a great workshop for you if you struggle with time management and you're not sure how to use a planner effectively. It will also help you with the mindset issues that keep you stuck in a cycle of confusion and overwhelm. Click here to sign up.

This episode dives into the "trifecta of dream stealers" that keep us stuck, and make us go right down the schedule shame path.

I also share a little bit tough love too because with my coaching clients, I see this scenario happen all too often: we get the fancy planner, hook up the googles and other calendars, and we don't develop a process to use any of them.

You'll learn how to plan the work and work the plan. Don't allow your goals to just be wishes. I'll show you how avoid these 3 saboteurs of planning success!

24 Dec 2020128 How to Manifest Anything You Want in 5 Steps00:42:50

In part 1 of this 3-part series, I shared a powerful 5-step puzzle that reveals how our thoughts influence everything we experience. In this episode, we explore how feelings are created by our thoughts, not the events and the world around us, what people say, or even our bank balance. It is the thoughts we have about these things that make us feel a certain way. Feelings are everything because these are what drive the bus to get the results we want in the world. You'll learn how to harness your emotions and look in the "mirror" of your own awareness.

06 Sep 2017071 Katie Krimitsos inspires women to be their own biz superheroes00:32:49

In this episode I actually got to host a live interview during the Podcast Movement conference with Katie Krimitsos, the founder of Biz Women Rock!. Katie specializes in group and 1:1 coaching to help female entrepreneurs build businesses that will enable them to have the freedom to design their own lifestyles. She is the voice behind the Biz Women Rock! podcast and the Facebook group of the same name.

“I fell in love with the idea that any individual could create this thing called a business that could really be the ticket to the freedom to design the life we really want.”

- Katie Krimitsos

Episode highlights:

  • As a society we tend to think you can’t make money from creative pursuits, but to Katie this is all a mindset issue.
  • Find three people who do what YOU want to do, so that you can see that it is possible to make money that way.
  • Katie fell in love with entrepreneurship while working with her husband in an organization called the Tampa Bay Business Owners.
  • In 2014 she decided to start a podcast to shine a light on female business owners so we can all share the journey together.
  • Katie’s coaching and her academy all grew out of the podcast.
  • You don’t have to be more than a few steps ahead of the people you’re trying to serve in order to be helpful to them.
  • The key obstacle to a lot of business owners is that they don’t have the confidence to believe in themselves.
  • Katie journals every morning to help her stay in tune with gratitude and visioning.
  • She often chooses a future date and writes about what could happen by then to make herself proactive in her own life.
  • Katie uses her journaling to give her ideas for new content to create for her audience.
  • Feeling discouraged or down? Use affirmations to help you “fake it ‘til you make it.”
  • Everything doesn’t have to be perfect; you don’t have to know everything before you begin. Just experiment!
  • When you start to feel overwhelmed and you feel like your business is running you, it’s time to go back to your WHY.

12 Jul 2017067 How to Develop Your Knitting Super Powers00:35:56

In this episode, Kara talks about how to develop you knitting super powers - and WHY that means you need to go out on that ledge and take some creative chances! This episode was inspired by Melanie, who is part of the Power Purls Community and she participated in the Stitchucation Shawls Workshop. She recently completed her shawl and it opened a world of possibilities for her. Here's what she posted ...

I loved going out on a ledge and trying a yarn I wouldn't have tried. I loved having so much choice, as in what to do next (which of course gives me 101 ideas for the next shawl and the one after that!) I have learned that by the time I am annoyed by the row length, I'm almost ready to bind off! And NOW, I cannot tear my eyes away from this beautiful shawl!

Even the wisest scholar can’t give you wisdom. They can point the way, but you must develop wisdom through your own experiences.

Taking that chance, means you're willing to trust yourself! This helps you gain confidence and it's a step in the direction to begin your designing journey. What I encouraged in the Stitchucation Shawls Workshop was to take an "intuitive journey" through shawl-making and fall in love with swatching, take chances, and go out on a "ledge" as Melanie says. This willingness builds your wisdom muscle, which is your SUPERPOWER!

You can catch Power Purls Podcast LIVE with Kara Gott Warner, host of the podcast, designer, illustrator, editor and your ultimate cheerleader on your yarn crafting path every Friday on the Power purls Facebook Page to join in during the live video!

5 ways to develop your knitting super powers:

  • Trust your intuition - learn to read your knitting and take clues from it
  • Put aside the pattern - just try to see if you can lead the way with your own understanding
  • Be spontaneous - try new needles, new yarn. Do something crazy!
  • Get our of your comfort zone every day
  • Build you WISDOM muscle = this is your SUPER POWER!

20 Sep 2017072 Trisha Malcolm publishes a magazine for fashion forward knitters00:35:59

Today Kara talks to the Editorial Director and Vice President of Vogue Knitting, Trisha Malcolm. Trisha was the very first guest on this podcast, so we're so glad to have her back again today! Trisha is a magazine publisher with a focus on fashion-forward designs that adapt to the needs of today's knitters. Listen in as we talk about the special 35th anniversary issue of Vogue Knitting Magazine!

“It's a creative job because every issue is different, and every time something new happens, it's exciting!”

-Trisha Malcolm

[Tweet "Behind the scenes of @VogueKnitting - listen in on the #PowerPurlsPodcast!"]

Episode highlights:

  • Trisha started her career as a high school teacher. Then she got a job at a crafting magazine because she was a teacher who also knew how to do several crafts.
  • This year marks Trisha's 20th anniversary with Vogue Knitting!
  • Vogue Knitting started in 1932, so even though this is our 35th anniversary, the brand is 85 years old. In 1972 they stopped publishing the magazine when Conde Nast sold the pattern side to Butterick Patterns and stopped the magazine. In the 1980s there was a big knitting boom again, and Trisha's boss asked Conde Nast to start publishing the magazine again.
  • The magazine focuses on fashion, but Trisha feels this has become less important because fashion itself has become so much more casual in recent years.
  • Trisha looks at online videos and photos for fashion shows each season, and then she finds all the sweaters and bundles those images together to create a trend report.
  • Trisha is starting to see more shawls and wraps on the runway, and she thinks the designers are taking a nod from the knitters of the world (we love our shawls, don't we?).
  • Trisha redesigned the magazine a year ago to include more "behind the scenes" with designers.
  • Trisha has big plans to take the magazine into a broader digital environment in order to make the content accessible via phone. She doesn't envision that the print issue will disappear, though.
  • For the anniversary issue, they invited regular advertisers to choose a favorite pattern

14 Jun 2017065 Top 10 Mistakes New Designers Make & How to Avoid Them00:34:29

In this episode, Kara puts on her editor's hat to talk about the top 10 mistakes new designers make so you can avoid them! In her experience as editor of Creative Knitting magazine, there are several of common proposal issues she would encounter. As you'll learn, some are very simple and easy to implement, but ... often easy to forget!

The world doesn't need another boxy sweater pattern. Tell the unique story behind your design. You are your own best marketing machine, and the design proposal is your best first impression.

[Tweet "I'm listening to how to avoid the 10 common mistakes new #knit designers make on #PowerPurlsPodcast!"]

Episode highlights:

The 10 common mistakes, how you can avoid them if you follow these steps:

  1. Tell a story - share the vision behind your design and sell the editor on it!
  2. Clearly illustrate your idea through sketch or photo
  3. State the design skill level
  4. DON'T list yarn as "generic" - be specific!
  5. Know your yarn! What's hot and new? Do your research!
  6. Provide multiple swatches - especially for special shaping: armholes, necklines, bust shaping
  7. Follow the designer guidelines and style before submitting to a publisher/yarn company
  8. Deliver what you promise - if you suggest a garment then be ready to write your pattern in multiple sizes
  9. DON'T send your proposal in the body of an email with photo attachments
  10. DO create a 1-2 page pdf containing all the components in one document

23 Feb 2022192 Big Hairy Scary Goals to Create the BEST Results with Your Podcast00:23:35

It’s so easy to fall into the place of comfort and complacency with the way we show up in our business and podcast. Sometimes we can’t even see that because the desire to do what’s easy is always running in the background.

To zap out of this funk, here’s a great question to ask: “what's my barfy-excited-scares-the-bejesus-out-of-me goal this week?”

Little word of caution ... this does not mean go into the spin cycle by filling a sheet with 50 things to keep you busy.

I've done this myself - sitting all day behind a computer thinking working harder will give me what I want.

This is so FAR from the truth.

If all you do is sit behind a computer mapping out a strategy, that’s not scary. That's just creating more work on your to do list and stress.

Here are some examples of what I've done over the years that got me out of my comfort zone:

  • Asking to be a guest on very big, very popular and very visible podcasts
  • Request to be a keynote speaker in my niche
  • Pitching to do an in-person how to podcast course at a trade event.
  • Asking celebs to be guests on my podcast (Yes, Deborah Norville of Inside Edition was on my show!)

All you need to do is ASK. Then kiss it good bye and let the universe do the rest.
You already know it's crazy, and you're like: “haha if pigs could fly, maybe Oprah will write me back.”

But get ready ... because you might get that email, or DM and be asked to talk on someone's stage like it happened for me.

The more you take yourself to your edge, the more fulfillment and accomplishment you’ll experience.

Landing that podcast guest or keynote speaker gig isn’t actually the goal. The goal is the growth … the stretch out of your nest of safety.

Now get out from behind the bushes. You have work to do mama bird.

02 Mar 2022193 Tap in to the FUN Frequency of Podcasting00:18:02

Podcasting's job is not to make you money or get you clients.  You might be thinking ... "Since I did not make money yet what's the point of recording if it seems like no one is listening?" Sure, it’s fun but let's get real ... it's not making me money. Why bother?" There's the obstacle thought - Why bother? Which becomes ... "I won't bother."

When you say "I want ... I want ... I want," the universe hears this: "I don't have ... I don't have," so what that means is, you get more not having.

This is the kiss of death.

This is why the statistics for new podcasts show that most give up within the first few months.

You can be that uncommon one by changing what you think podcasting success actually means.

The actual point of podcasting - fun, experimenting, taking creative risks, and building a body of work.

If your idea about podcasting is: "this is a marketing tool," you are missing the point entirely. It's like wanting the chicken before the egg.

A podcast has the potential to become your ULTIMATE marketing tool, as it has for me ... but only because you create it with fun, passion, excitement and the willingness to always try new things.

The first step  ... do you like podcasting? Have you tried to act "as if" and record something?

Does running to the microphone excite the hell out of you, like it's Christmas morning? That's the vibe I'm talking about here.

You have to believe that every time you are speaking into your microphone it's like sending magical radio waves out to the universe.

Your only job is to get behind the mic, and keep having fun, because NOTHING is linear.

One post ... one episode, does not entitle you to the reward of a consult or a new client.

It's about sowing the seeds, and believing exactly what you need will bounce back, then kiss it and let it go.

09 Mar 2022194 What your listeners REALLY want00:16:24

Here's what you're listeners don't want …

They don’t want the music.

They don’t care about the fancy 30-sec elevator pitch (they will press the fast forward anyway).

They will never know what kind of microphone you are using so pick one you like.

They don’t wanna know all about your story and your history and all the accolades that you’ve had.

Those things are nice and they are good to share but think about your client and where they are right now.

They  just wanna know - can you help me with my problem?

Yes, do the music, the intro ... all of it, but not at the expense of forgetting what a podcast is really about.

Podcasting has given me a successful coaching business where I get to pay forward all of this wisdom, and of course you can have the same.

If you were a clairvoyant, and told me back in 2014 that a podcast would give me the success I have today, I’d never believed it.

When you detach from the outcome and you no longer NEED it. That’s when you start going somewhere. This shift  can change your entire perspective.

How can you find safety in detaching from the outcome? How can you podcast for the love of it, expecting zero in return in the way of downloads, listeners, clients, etc.?

How can you hold the intention for your goal, but in a playful way ... like it’s your number one job.

16 Mar 2022195 Fearless Podcasting: Lessons from Oprah, a Buddhist Scholar and a Karmarang00:19:26

Oprah once said “I will no longer be on TV but I will use it as a force for good and not be used by TV. When Oprah made this shift, it changed everything. How can you take this wisdom and apply it to your podcast? In this episode, learn 3 ways how.

One day, not too long ago, I had a big ugly cry, and looking back now, I can't even remember why I was upset.

It's so interesting to see how emotions can carry us away, and then dissipate and fly away once they wash through us.  The gift that came out of this big ugly cry were rough notes, which are the basis of this episode.

The question Oprah asks herself when disappointment or confusion strikes is: “what is this here to teach me?"

Asking this question can be so revealing, because we often discover it's not the "stuff" ... not the static circumstance outside. It's way more subtle actually.

Most of our problems circle back to trying to show us how to practice more patience, more love, more giving, more compassion.

Solving inner obstacles always solves outer obstacles.

Here are 3 things Oprah says “will carry us if we let them”

1. Knowing who you really are

2. You must find a way to serve

3. Always do the right thing - be excellent so you become UNFORGETTABLE

Be the change you want to see. Do what makes you come alive and meander down the path that pulls you to what you really love.

23 Mar 2022196 The Many Gifts of Podcasting00:31:25

It’s fun to have structure, but it’s also fun to be spontaneous and capture the creativity in the ether, which is exactly what this  outdoor, rustic episode with chirping birdies in the background episode is all about.

I’m always going encourage you to take risks and allow spontaneity to arise …  to be off-the-cuff and go fast and loose. Just turn on the mic and go!

What’s the worst that could happen? You stumble a little, you mess up your words.

What’s the best that can happen? You lean more into your human-ness.

30 Mar 2022197 Structured Spontaneity00:14:33

Spontaneity can be your biggest podcasting ally. Strategy is amazing ... but without spontaneity you could easily find yourself hustling, and stuck in a box.

Without spontaneity you squash creativity and the unknown and the unknown is where the wonder is.

Spontaneity creates freedom, allowing the breakthroughs to inspire you to jump behind that mic and share.

When you have the moment when the creativity is swirling in the ether, harness it, bottle it up ... that's the magic.

Don't box yourself in and say: "maybe later, 'cause it's not the time for that ... I gotta do that IG post."

Don't miss out on the magnificence of the moment, and the fleeting gift that spontaneity is giving you.

You write the rules of your podcast and your business.

Podcasting is still the Wild West and you're the creator of it.

Change lives with your words.

Don't keep them inside when they are asking to come out.

20 Apr 2022200 It’s Not all In Your Head: Why You Might be Lacking Motivation00:43:22

I hated the word "mid-life woman" I would secretly think I'm not like them ... I've never had problems hot flashes, weight gain ... I mean geez ... I beat obesity when I was a teenager. My lifestyle is simply impeccable, but … I had a wake up call that I want to share with you in this episode.

Since B.C. (Before COVID) I’ve been in denial ... of my exhaustion, racing mind in the middle of the night ... sleep deprivation ... lack of constant physical energy that has been present over the past few years.

I blamed it on building my business. “This is normal,” I would tell myself.  “I’m doing something uncommon … it’s what I signed up for, right?”

I knew something was off. It started with brain fog ... feeling isolated, tiredness, exhaustion. I was blaming it on hustle, busy syndrome, and telling myself it’s all in my head ... and I just had to work more on my beliefs. “Stay positive … you got this!” was my mantra.

It’s like … wondering why the sink is overflowing, but I didn’t realize I needed to turn off the faucet!

Thoughts are not the only part of the puzzle of our complex humanity.

When starting a podcast, or going after a big goal, we think it's all about our thoughts, and we just have to believe an intentional one to succeed, but that’s short-sighted.

When our physiology is off our brain is off.
-Dr. Mindy Pelz

And if you are pre-menopausal or post-meno woman like me, this is like the elephant in the room. You may not even see that your brain has been hijacked by your hormones.

It's NOT JUST IN YOUR HEAD.

As you’ll hear in this episode, I’m on a mission to call every woman that feels that something is “off,” to STOP the shame game.

Thoughts are only part of the equation.

11 May 2022202 Define Your Easy Button00:32:23

What's EASY IS working hard on your dream AND resting so you can allow space for the universe to bring in the abundance that's waiting.

It’s a YES/AND situation. Yes, I can do what's easy AND I can work as hard AF on your dream too.

WHERE is it written that business ... that if you do A you get B? What if you do A your way ... then B finds it's way to you in the way that fits your own unique life, and NOT in the way you expect?

Where can you find the middle path? Meaning, how can you take in advice with a grain of salt, then OWN your wisdom. How can you cultivate not knowing and be TOTALLY OK with it?

AND ... be ecstatic about the truth that you have a live-in advisor that is so freaking wise — YOU.

No one can know what's right for you but you and until you embrace this truth you will constantly seek external validation which never gives you the results you actually want.

18 May 2022203 How to Easily Stay Consistent No Matter What00:10:17

If you’re making it hard to stay consistent, then today’s episode is for you! I’m teaching you in this short and sweet minisode how to get a little scrappy, practice integration, while staying consistent to your commitment to podcasting.

This episode is for you if …

  • You keep pushing yourself to batch a bunch of episodes, but you keep letting yourself down, then the shame kicks in
  • You can’t finish what you say you’ll do
  • Podcasting feels hard and like a chore

This episode is an example of how I get scrappy - I was falling behind this week, and when this happens I ask myself a simple series of questions:

  1. What’s happening right now? Is this something I can share to make an impact even if it seems mundane and silly?
  2. How can I make this ridiculously easy and doable?
  3. What can I do to get scrappy, practice integration with things in my daily life (ie: gardening, shuffling the kids to baseball practice, and recording your podcast … heck, I’ve recorded a quickie episode in the car while my son was practicing. Ya do what ya gotta do!)

Stop getting in your own way and sabotaging yourself. Make it easy by allowing it to be fun, scrappy and unconventional. I promise you’ll love podcasting even more.

Our best work often happens when we are not sitting behind a desk. It happens during those times where we are open to receiving because we are relaxed — walking, driving, gardening, or sitting out on the deck on a gorgeous spring day.

Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.
-Theodore Roosevelt

31 May 2022205 How to REALLY Connect with Your Humans00:13:58

What is the goal for living this precious human life?

In my opinion, it distills down to 3 things:

Connection, giving and service.

This is the most important conversation because life is like a flash of lightning even if we live over 100 years. Human life is quick.

Why did you decide to become a coach, start an online business, and consider the idea of starting a podcast?

When your desire to connect and create RELATIONSHIPS is GREATER than your fear of looking silly, clunky or messy ... then you found the secret sauce to podcasting.

When you connect from a place that makes you come alive, it makes everything else electric.

The lines between life and business become blurred, and that's the gift that this powerful medium of connection can create for you.

Are you ready to create some electricity?

13 Jun 2022207 If you want to grow do these 3 things00:10:45

Let’s cut right to the chase …

You want to create a podcast that will grow. These are the 3 things you must do:

  1.  Be a guest on other podcasts
  2.  Have guests on your podcast
  3.  Be the one who COMMITS

Sounds simple, right? But I find that many are unwilling to be the person who does these and then they wonder why they don’t grow.

If you are willing to be committed AF, listeners will flock to you crazy AF.

And #3 is the rocket fuel that will carry you because just this ONE thing will help you grow because you’re here for the long game NO MATTER how long it takes.

That’s what it means to be the uncommon person who commits and creates creates PREDICTABILITY in their business.

If you took these 3 things to heart and became that uncommon person, that you know you already are, how would that change how you show up as a Podcaster?

You already know that just a 1% tweak is all you need to be that person who goes all-in … who burns the boats because they are headed to the other shore.

So here’s your choice:

Option 1: Be the one who sits on the sidelines who does not decide to commit, and finds excuses to stop.

OR …

Option 2: Be the one who is dialed and ready because the desire to commit is BIGGER than your reasons to give up.

Get out of your own way, step into your potential and create alchemy with your words.

22 Jun 2022208 The BEST Way to Chill Out and GROW00:21:42

Lot's of people want the HOW TO podcast stuff, and that's super-simple, because I can teach you that in 20 minutes. The collection of things- the mic, the software, the show notes pages. What actually matters is your compelling reason for wanting to do it. That's when it gets to be fun ... when you relax. Take a chill pill. That's when you see things grow.

The podcast is a vehicle where ideas can be shared in an intimate way and communicate in a way that build trust, share your gift of gab and influence those you want to reach, who need your message.

So the podcast is just that. The vehicle.

When you water the garden, your plants grow, but those plants take time. Your podcast is the same. Rushing doesn't EVER work, and never produces what you truly desire. Pushing and wanting and wishing only creates more agony, and stifles growth.

It's like you sending out a vibe to the universe that says ... "I'm tight, I'm closed, so ... no thanks, I don't want abundance over here. Just keep giving me the measly scraps."

Why I do this podcasting thing ... to inspire you to BE your purpose, build legacy, keep going when it feels chore-like, AND say bye-bye to your podfade brain that wants to stop.

When you embrace the true chillax, something MAGICAL happens ... you make it fun, you let go of expectation, you just focus on the art and alchemy of the spoken word.

  • Would you podcast no matter what?
  • Would you do it if it had nothing to do with your business, or a desire to build a platform to attract listeners and clients?
  • Would you do it for the love of giving, sharing, impacting?

If you answered YES, you're on the right track. That's the secret sauce to keeping it going.

That's what I help my clients develop and cultivate. That's the stuff I believe is the essence of podcasting. It's not getting the checklist. It's not the collection of equipment or tech. It's a higher-level consciousness thing.

That's how to chill out and grow. Then your peeps flock to you like cray.

I know you want to focus on feeding your baby birds, sharing the juicy messages, creating the legacy, excitement, and creating a real asset in your business ... a content foundation that you own. That's exactly what a podcast provides, unlike social media. Put out a post ... it hangs out in the feed for a bit, but a podcast lives on, and you own it.

Click here and let’s make your podcasting dream a reality.

28 Jun 2022209 How to REALLY be a Podcaster with PURPOSE — and it’s RIDICULOUSLY ez AF00:16:37

Something emanated overnight which is now the material manifestation of today’s podcast episode.  I literally had to run from the bed to the mic to capture what you’re about to hear … and it all just flowed from the divine.

It’s about a new workshop - and seriously it's the BEST shit that's come out of me to date. It's what you need, what you want, and it's the reason you are a podcaster, and it's how you create something divine in this world that someone can consume, and walk away from as a different person.

This is not a huge giant thing I'm talking about. It's attainable and ez AF, and I want this for you if you’re on the sidelines right now.

Let's create a podcast that the world needs and is waiting for. If you’re sick and tired of hanging out in the shadows, this is your TIME because THIS is what you signed up for:

  • You are a coach
  • You are someone who is a guide, a steward, a benefactor

I signed up for this over 8 years ago, and I had no idea it would take me to this place today — teaching you about how to podcast with purpose.

To feed your baby birds. To turn words into wealth.

The kind of wealth I'm talking about is the kind that always has starts inside, and then and only then can it become it's equivalent of material wealth in the outer world.

YOU get to feel that and be in the abundance starting right now.

It's just about sliding the door. Making a 1% tweak in your thinking. There’s no waiting, or wishing.

As I record this, tomorrow I'm hosting a free Podcast in ONE Day live workshop

I'm commited to getting as many coaches behnid the mic as possible — now more than ever.

Women's voices need to be heard. We need to rise together.

We need to be those lighthouses, those beacons.

There's a reason I'm a Projector according to Human Design. Makes sense to me that podcasting is my jam. I can't keep my mouth shut, and if for whatever reason if I do keep my mouth shut when I need to be heard - is squashes my spirit.

I'm here to be that lighthouse so you can shine your light too.

This class is going to open up with us hanging out Brady Bunch-style in a Zoom room. I want you to turn on your video, say hi, share a burning question. Be present and ready to make this transformational journey, because it's going to happen fast.

It's going to be something you have to get of your own way for, because it's an easy process that you''ll start implemnting as soon as we are done.

It’s not about watching the class, doing a little research, and planning for later, NOPE. You are ready to do the work.

It will be me showing you how to use the simplest of tools that you presently have which is how I started - a phone and your mouth.

I'm going to show you how I used just these 2 things to create an amazing experience for my listeners, and within a month a best-selling author reached out to ask to be a guest on my show — show's you don't need bells or whistles, or intros or outros.

So it's these 2 things + the teeny, tiniest productio

06 Jul 2022210 Creating Habits One Step at a Time with Tammie Bennett00:22:44

Today I'm chatting with Tammie Carpenter Bennett, mindset coach and Host of The Show Up Society Podcast. Tammie shares her years of wisdom from owning  a stationery business and coaching runners for over 13 years to remove the blocks that are keeping them stuck so they can achieve their goals with confidence.

Tammie is all about habits … she walks the walk by keeping one tiny, daily habit going strong for over 10 years. And she teaches others how to create and keep a tiny daily habit to reach their own goals, so they can stop procrastinating, and make quick decisions  so they can get back to creating!

Episode highlights:

  • How podcasting helps Tammie to create an even bigger impact
  • Why she believes podcasting stands apart from other digital platforms
  • The secret sauce that keeps her going
  • What she does to spice things up if the podcast starts to feel stale
  • How she uses a podcast to educate her clients

We close with the question I ask all of my quests: "If you could state in ONE word how you podcast with purpose, what would that word be?"  Listen to find out!

20 Dec 2022211 Radical Reinvention00:16:56

My life has been nothing short of incredible over the past 6 months. I made the decision to stop looking outside myself, to stay in my lane and doing some really scary things … that actually turned out to not be so scary after all.

Today's episode is one that I’m sharing so I can explain what I did so you might pull a few bits of inspiration out of this for yourself … to step into your own sovereign self to see you’re stronger and more resilient that you think.

What you'll learn in this episode:

  • How I tore it all down and completely started my business over this summer
  • How I made space for what was wanting to come in
  • When I stripped every bare, I realized I had everything already
  • Finding refuge in the absence of the illusion of what I thought was safe

learn what I did during my "summer of reinvention" and how it was a little quirky and unconventional, and how I created “home away from home” at a local campground.

I spent my days in our family RV. which became my haven, my refuge. A place to explore, be curious and begin the reinvention process.

And asked the big question: Who is that I’m called to serve?

As you'll learn, when I flipped the switch to make my transition, what I know for sure is that when you hit on what's right for you, the Universe has one big happy dance.

I have a lot of exciting things to share coming in the coming weeks and months, including, a relaunch of this podcast, so that means, there will be a podcast-a-palooza party. I promise more deets on this soon.

29 Dec 2022212 Tame Your Podfade Brain00:14:29

I often see many new podcasters getting out of their lane looking at what the big podcasters are doing, wanting those same results, and wondering why they're not getting them. And they get caught up in the numbers instead of focusing on the most important metric -- humans and touching and transforming lives with their words.

What you'll learn in this episode:

  • Why most podcasts end after only a few months
  • The problem with being attached to a timeline
  • Deciding in advance to play the long game with your podcast
  • The Fool in Tarot that is in it for the process, not the outcome

Here's the paradox ... when you forget the outcome and focus only on the process, that's when the door to receiving actually opens because you've discovered that this special medium is here to help amplify your message and have that impact on the people who need it most.

This is what my clients experience when they work with me in my Ready, Set, Launch program, because all the steps are laid out in a very systematic way that gets you to launch your podcast in the shortest period of time possible. And if you need extra time, I'm here as your guide every step of the way.

05 Jan 2023213 Three Things Successful Podcasters Do00:20:45

Today I'm talking about something so important that very few podcast coaches and experts are talking about. Every podcaster will face this at some point, and usually it happens during the first few months after starting a podcast.  It's the 3 phases of a podcast, and what successful podcasters do so they don't give up.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE TRANSCRIPT FOR THIS EPISODE

What you'll learn in this episode:

  • The 3 phases every podcast goes through
  • The mindset that successful podcasters adopt
  • Why chasing downloads leads to giving up
  • How to call BS on your podfade brain
  • Why most podcasters give up after the first few months

The successful podcaster, who is playing the long game ... who's like the craftswoman at work, has realized the immense impact their podcast is making for not only for their clients, but for themself too, and they are all-in on doing it for the process, not the outcome.

I'm brining you another-off-the-cuff, barebones, no notes episode. Today I felt there was a calling for me to record something straight-up simple to prove the point as I do again and again ... we don't need fancy scripts, notes, or timestamps to be a successful podcaster with a capital P.

In this episode, we're going to explore an issue I often see with podcasters getting out of their lane, comparing and despairing. This episode is asking you to step courageously into your sovereign self.

02 Mar 2023221 Your New Podcasting Superpower: Getting Scrappy to Create Time Freedom00:08:33

After nearly 10 years behind the mic, I have to say that getting scrappy on the regular is hands-down one of my strong superpowers. We can't get everything done at the same time, but we can get done what matters most at the right time.

What you'll learn in this episode:

  • Why getting scrappy can be the ultimate podcasting superpower
  • How to capture unexpected moments to record on the fly
  • How to create time and location freedom (as I illustrate in this episode!)
  •  How to create your own tiny traveling recording studio

The definition of success in podcasting means this -- it's about ease and fun and whatever that means for you, so let it be quirky and even a little eccentric. This is how you'll create the longevity and consistency I know you want.

Let it be fun ... then it gets easy.

09 Mar 2023222 What it Means to be a Fearless Podcaster00:11:14

In this podcast episode, I discuss the importance of using pockets of time efficiently and being scrappy to make the most of your resources. I share my experience with meditation and karma, and how it can be applied to podcasting. Oprah once said “I will no longer be on TV but I will use it as a force for good and not be used by TV."  How can we take this wisdom and become a fearless podcaster and step into our own sovereignty and greatness?

What you'll learn:

  • The 3 things that will carry us if we let them
  • Why a human life is precious and rare
  • Doing things a little bit off the beaten track and being creative with your approach can make the most of your time and resources
  • Why we're here to amplify the highest expression of ourselves
  • Why finding a way to serve makes you unforgettable
