07 Oct 202456. Take a Moment Monday: Does "Live at Peace With Everyone" Sound Hard Right Now?00:11:43

Alright, friend! We're back to the first Monday of the month, and I'm getting back into our "Take a Moment Monday" episode! I want this episode on the first Monday of each month to be a bit more contemplative and reflective, and help you dive more into the word, which is the best place to know truth and be rooted in it!

So this week, I'm talking about Romans 12:8! Do you know the camp song that goes with it?? Maybe not :D But how does this verse pertain to us when we're knee deep in irritability, visceral rage, frustration, rollercoaster mood swings... where it just feels our volatile thoughts and emotions are taking control of us?

Have a listen and we can find out together!

29 Jul 202446. Remember This ONE Truth to Help You Get Through the Month00:15:15

PMS Made Peaceful with Lauren Collins

46. Remember This ONE Truth to Help You Get Through the Month

Hey friend! Does it feel like your value and worth are completely dictated by how you feel? One minute you're doing great, feeling great and sticking to your healthy routines. And then the next minute you're overcome with anxiety, fear, self-doubt, self-criticism, which makes you feel like you just can't do life well.

When it comes to dealing with PMS and PMDD symptoms, this experience is so common. It's like we're a little boat just getting smashed and tossed around by the waves.

What are we to do? Throughout the WHOLE month, we need some deep truth to hold on to, or our worth will either become inflated from thinking we got this, or it'll tank when we're feeling overwhelmed and controlled by our thoughts.

Listen to today's episode to remember this ONE truth to help you get through the month!

I pray it blesses you!

Lauren

02 Sep 202451. Take a Moment Monday: Hearing God's Voice Over Perfectionism, Producing & Pleasing00:17:54

Hey friend! We're getting back into the contemplative, "be still" kind of episodes I had offered when I first started this podcast. Originally they had been every other Thursday, but now they will be on the first Monday of every month. Keep your eyes out for "Take a Moment Monday"!

I brought them back a) because I wasn't doing them in my Facebook group, which was the whole reason for taking them off of the podcast and b) because actually practicing calming my mind and my thoughts and slowing down has been so helpful for me in the last number of weeks.

When it comes to finding solutions for working through PMS and PMDD symptoms, we really need to come at it from that holistic point of view. The movement is important, eating the right foods is key, finding the right coping tools to regulate our emotions is vital AND coming to our Creator and letting Him speak over us is absolutely necessary.

So, grab a journal and pen and find a quiet space you can be in for 15 minutes.

I pray this blesses you.

Lauren

12 Feb 202415. What The Menstrual Cycle Is & Why It Is Important For Your Overall Well-Being00:25:36

You’ve probably learned about the menstrual cycle at some point in your life, but want a little refresher? It’s really easy to just see the menstrual cycle as only being blood, cramps and anxiety. But, my friend, there’s so much more to it than that!

In this episode, we’re chatting about prominent hormones and what each phase is about in the menstrual cycle, but also about why it’s even important to talk about this stuff in the first place.

Can you image if instead of people saying ‘hmm, yeah, she’s on her period’ or ‘she’s PMSing’, we started saying ‘ooooh, wow, she must be in her follicular phase, she’s rocking it!’?! I think that would be pretty cool!

Tune in and get some insights into what’s going on in your body each and every cycle!

Also, pardon my stuffy nose.. I’m a bit under the weather still! Apologies for any sniffly noises I didn’t edit out! :D

10 Mar 202578. ADHD, Motherhood and Menstrual Health: A Conversation With Annie de Villiers00:58:11

Happy Monday, friend! This week, I have a special guest chatting with me about ADHD, motherhood and menstrual health issues. Yes, all those things packed into this great, big episode!

I know you'll be encouraged by this conversation, because I was. I felt so very validated and affirmed in my own wellness journey, and I pray the same for you!

Happy listening!

Lauren

Annie: "Hello, my name is Annie de Villiers, and I am 42-years young and was diagnosed with ADHD in 2018, when I was 35. I am a qualified foundation phase teacher but currently only homeschool my own two children. This year, 2025, I am blessed to be married for 17 years. We live in Pretoria, South Africa and I definitely am one of those people who value the sun in my life. Over the years I have had to learn to not just cope with my ADHD, but live a life where I bloom. Our ADHD brains are so powerful and unique but untrained and neglected. We often struggle to a point it starts to drain us. Coping with a monthly menstrual cycle with all the changes and challenges it brings takes intentionality. Developing some healthy habits in my every day life has helped to lift the heaviness of the effects of my menstrual cycle."

EPISODE #50

This week, I'm diving into some pretty theologically-charged content about the idea of struggling with guilt, shame and feelings of condemnation when it comes to PMS or PMDD as a Christian.

We're talking about questions like:

- should I be struggling with PMS/ PMDD as a Christian?

- aren't I supposed to be the one who "has it together" as a Christian?

- I feel so shameful, embarrassed, guilty for how I treated my husband or kids. What do I do from here?

And I'm sure there's more. Join me in this episode was we unpack these topics from a GOSPEL-CENTERED perspective. I hope it really blesses you!

08 Jul 202443. Self-Criticism Keeping You on the Bathroom Floor? 3 Questions to Ask When You Are Being Hard on Yourself00:16:33

Hey friend! Have you been here before? You've traveled way too far down the self-criticism train, and now you are the worst person ever, everyone hates you and you're a failure. Suddenly all you can do is lay on the floor in a puddle of tears, or you're in fetal position on the shower floor.

Oof, yup, been there.

In this episode, I'm sharing 3 questions you need to be asking yourself when it comes to the all-consuming nature of self-criticism and self-hatred. It can be so easy for our thoughts to take over and for us to just get pulled along with our thoughts. But this is not what God wants for us, nor what he speaks over us.

Have a listen & I pray the next time self-criticism starts rearing it's ugly head, you can ask yourself these 3 questions.

22 Jan 202411. 2 Things To START Doing In Your Premenstrual Phase When The Anxiety Is High & Feels All-Consuming00:14:23

Welcome back to another episode! Last Monday, I shared 2 things to STOP doing when the anxiety is loud, high and all-consuming in the week or two before your period.

But if we don’t replace our bad habits with GOOD habits, we’ll just revert back to what we’re used to and comfortable doing.

So in this episode, here are 2 things to START doing in your premenstrual phase that will help to both relieve the anxiety, but also help you work through it.

21 Dec 20234. Is The Anxiety Feeling Too Much? Listen In To What Philippians 4:6+7 Says About Anxiety, Gratitude & Peace00:17:17

Welcome to Contemplative Thursday's!

Every other Thursday, I'll be doing more of a contemplative, "being" episode, as opposed to "doing". This is when you are invited to sit, rest, listen and allow God to speak to you through prayer, reading Scripture passages, journaling, breathwork... all the things that encourage stillness and being present with yourself, your mind and body and with God.

Today we're looking at Philippians 4:6+7, seeing what it tells us about anxiety, gratitude and peace.

So find a comfy, quiet spot in your house to sit or lay down, grab a notebook, pen & Bible, and let's practice stillness with God!

01 Feb 202413. Can We Heal Ourselves? | What It Looks Like To Rebel Against A Culture Of Self-Healing & Turn To God Instead00:16:16

It feels like we're constantly being bombarded left, right and center by messages telling us we should be able to heal our bodies and help ourselves through positive thinking, manifesting and that the power is all from within.

While I definitely feel we need to be active participants in our own wellness journeys, I also think that believing we can or should be able to do it all on our own is dangerous and will most likely lead to more shame and confusion.

Listen in as I share insight from Isaiah 1:5+6, as well as my own journey with learning to entrust YOU (the listener :D) to God with your own healing journey.

02 Dec 202464. How Do We Find Hope When Despair Is Loud? Advent Series Part 100:17:58

Are despair and hopelessness speaking a bit too loud these days? Are you finding it difficult to trust in Jesus and his promises amidst premenstrual anxiety and fear? Well, Christmas is coming, and that means Advent is here! If you don't know much about Advent, it simply means 'coming': Jesus is coming. He's still safely tucked in Mary's belly. She's probably getting more and more uncomfortable, and both nervously and excitedly wanting to meet her baby.

You're invited to practice hope this week, to remember where your TRUE hope lies. The world will offer us counterfeit hope, which is like putting a bandaid on a gushing wound. I invite you to step away from the loud, despairing voices and come away with Jesus for a moment, who wants to remind you of the living hope we have in him!

If you haven't already, come join the Practicing Advent Series! Every Monday, you'll receive a new email specific to that week's advent topic. Come join and be even more reminded of what truths God wants you to know and be anchored in this Christmas season. Each week will vary, but it could be Scripture, prayer, music, holistic wellness specific to that week. Click here to join!

In this episode, I'm sharing my own story with premenstrual anxiety, overthinking, paranoia, depression, and eventually receiving a diagnosis of PMDD.

It's been on my heart for a while now to share this episode with you, and there has been so much fear, resistance, second guessing, imposter syndrome- the whole shabang. But I believe there is power in our stories and owning them and knowing that God will use them for his glory.

08 Apr 202428. Use Your Menstrual Cycle To Grow Closer To God, Even During Your Premenstrual Phase!00:13:44

Does it feel like your relationship with God takes a beating every premenstrual phase, where you're doubting his love for you or if you're loveable? Does it feel really hard to decipher between truth and lies? Is guilt, shame and condemnation speaking too loudly in your mind, telling you you're not worthy, that God doesn't love you?

Friend, I've been there, and it can be so hard to press into God when your thoughts are telling you the opposite.

In this episode, I'm sharing a framework that God shared with me regarding the different phases of the menstrual cycle, and how each phase can be a tool for growing closer to God and trusting his truth.

I pray this information blesses you so much! Have a listen!

16 Dec 202466. Joy Even When I Have Mood Swings?! Advent Series Part 300:16:47

Joy: it goes beyond just being happy and smiling all the time. Joy in Jesus is so much different than just being happy all the time, and it's even more pertinent when we're suffering, struggling or desiring something that just hasn't happened yet. However, how do we move beyond mood swings and how we're feeling in our premenstrual phase and truly root our strength in the joy of what Jesus has done for us and the promises God speaks over us? I know for my own self, this is an area God is continually refining me in. It requires humility and trusting in God's goodness, and not just in how I feel.

So come have a listen to this third week of advent, and be invited to pursue a joy that's deep deep down, beyond fickle emotions and thoughts, but rather deeply grounded in the truth of who God is.

05 Feb 202414. Is It ”Just PMS” Or Is There Something More Going On? | A Conversation Around Validation, Causes & Differences When It Comes To PMS & PMDD00:20:49

How many times have you had a conversation with a friend or family member & you've shared what emotions, feelings & symptoms you've been experiencing in the week before your period, and all you've heard back is "oh, that's just PMS". End of story. Basically: just deal with it.

There's really not much space for further discussion, and it often leaves you feeling shut down, not listened to and far from validated.

In this episode, we're chatting about PMS, PMDD, potential causes of both, diagnosis... the whole kitten and kaboodle! You'll definitely gain some insight into what is going on with your body, mind and hormones.

Regardless if you have a diagnosis or not... if you're not sure what the heck is going on with your body and mind, but you know something ain't right... know that what you're experiencing is REAL & YOU ARE NOT CRAZY! And you do not need to suffer alone!

44. 3 Things to Consider When You're Thinking of Going on Medications

Hey Friend! Are you at a point on your premenstrual mental health journey where you're considering starting on medications? Maybe you're struggling with intense anxiety, severe PMS, PMDD or unmanageable emotions, and you're wondering if medications are the next step.

I've been there, and in this episode I want to share 3 things to consider if you're hesitant, scared or wondering what the process could or should look like. There's obviously so much more to consider and talk about when it comes to medications, but these 3 factors are a great place to start.

Please remember: I'm not a doctor or your primary care provider. Before making any changes, always consult with a primary care provider you can trust, and never hesitate to ask questions.

18 Jan 202410. ”When You Pass Through The Waters, I Will Be With You” | God’s Promise Of Being With You Through The Wind, Waves & Fire Of Premenstrual Anxiety00:08:42

In today's Thursday episode, I share about Isaiah 43:1-3, and how it can be hard to grasp the idea of walking through hard seasons. Yet even in the middle of HARD & TRIAL, God is faithful and doesn't leave us to walk alone.

I hope this episode provides a deep reassurance that despite the anxiety, the overwhelm & the despair feeling so real, like it's going to swallow you up, God remains with you through the wind and the waves, through the fire of premenstrual anxiety.

17 Jun 202440. What Is Actually Causing The PUFFY FINGERS & TIGHT PANTS | PMS Symptom Series00:18:59

Tell me if you can relate. Your fingers suddenly look like sausages. The pants that fit perfect last week are feeling real tight. You wonder why you look 5 months pregnant.

Friend, I've been there! And truth be told, it's not always comfortable or pleasant.

This week on PMS Made Peaceful, we're chatting about water retention, weight gain, swelling & bloating.

This is the fourth episode and symptom in the PMS Symptom Series!

The first week we talked about anxiety, irritability, mood swings & nervous tension.

The second was cravings, increased appetite, headaches & fatigue.

The third was depression, feelings of hopelessness, decreased interest and low energy.

I dig into what is causing these symptoms during your premenstrual phase. I think you might just be a bit surprised at what the reasons are! Who knows?! Maybe it'll be the little tidbit of information you need to start making some changes in your life and cycle to start ditching these symptoms!

Grab a notebook, a pen and let's jump into this last symptom in the PMS Symptom Series!

23 Dec 202467. Living a Life of Love With Jesus' Help | Advent Series Part 400:14:10

We all know the classic passage about love in 1 Corinthians. But when you read it, does it instill in you? Guilt, freedom, condemnation? When we're dealing with PMS or PMDD symptoms, and we clearly see we aren't kind or patient, and we're actually just downright rude and self-seeking, how do we allow the gospel to move in us that turns us away from self-serving to self-sacrifice?

This is the last of the Advent series, as Christmas is just a few days away. This episode brings both love and Christ together, because we can't love, we can't be gracious or kind until we allow the true and radical love of God to transform us.

Blessings,

Lauren

29 Feb 202420. "Come To Me All You Who Are Weary & Burdened" | Slowing Down, Being With Our Breath & Finding Rest00:12:14

Are you feeling pretty weary and burdened these days? I get it. When we're constantly navigating chaotic thoughts, intrusive thoughts, a rollercoaster of emotions, doubts about our worth and identity, it takes a toll on our bodies and our souls.

In this 'Contemplative Thursday' episode, this is your time to practice being present with your body, your breath and with the rest God is inviting you into. Let this space be a time where you are curious, gentle and gracious with yourself. It can be so hard to unwind and switch from go-go-go to being present and slowing down, so don't beat yourself up if this feels uncomfortable and unfamiliar.

I pray this episode blesses you.

20 May 202436. Are Your Thoughts & Emotions Out Of Control? Use These 5 Tools To Get Grounded00:18:02

You're at that point of feeling so overwhelmed, so caught up in your head, and it feels like you have no idea how you’re going to make it through the next hour, let alone the next week or two. It feels like nothing is certain in this moment; you forget what supports you have in your life, what you’re good at, who loves you. Your thoughts, feelings, emotions feel out of control, like someone has just hijacked your body, your brain. You’re in survival mode.

After struggling for years with anxiety and intrusive thoughts during my premenstrual phase, these grounding techniques were some of the initial tools I used to get out of the mental tornado.

What I really want for you is to feel more grounded and centered, and not be rocked around by the wind and waves of premenstrual anxiety. These 5 practices will help ground you to the present moment, and help move you past the internal chaos and confusion.

I hope they bless you!

06 May 202434. How To Start Balancing Your Hormones When It Feels Intimidating00:15:55

You know that getting your hormones balanced will help with the premenstrual symptoms, but does it feel really intimidating and illusive, and you're asking where do I even start?

I hear ya! There have been moments when I have asked the same question! Where do I even start?! What should I eat, what shouldn't I eat, do I need to take something for it? Even with being a nurse and knowing biology and loving to geek over it all, sometimes it still feels daunting. In this episode, I break down the concept of hormones and where we need to begin if we're wanting to get them hormones more balanced! This is really just step 1 in laying a foundation for the concept of hormones that will help bridge into the nitty gritty later!

Has this process felt intimidating and daunting to you?! Have a listen & let me know your thoughts!

11 Nov 202461. Periods, Depression & Holistic Wellness: Listen to Aileen Orr's Story01:04:17

Hey friend! It's Monday again, and I'm so excited to share this episode with you of my conversation with Aileen Orr! Aileen and I have been friends for years, and we love chatting about all things holistic and natural wellness, women's health, hormones- all the good stuff! So, we decided to make an official conversation of it and do an episode all about Aileen's experience with getting her period, working through depression, how that affected her premenstrual phase, what she did to help it and where she's at today!

So, grab a coffee, tea- whatever is getting you warm and cozy these days- and have a listen!

Lauren

Aileen grew up on a farm near Brooks, Alberta. She spent the beginning of her adult life studying at the University of Lethbridge, where she got her degrees in English and Education. She's been fortunate enough to do a bit of traveling and living in other places, and has spent the last few years teaching mainly in junior high and upper elementary grades. Her favourite job she's ever had is a tie between working at various summer camps and being a story teller for the library one semester. Her dream job has always been to farm, and that's still the long term goal.    She's married to Eric, and she is currently enjoying her first few weeks of Maternity leave before she gets promoted to being Little Sprout's mom!

28 Oct 202459. Stop the Stigma of Menstrual & Women's Health with these 3 Strategies00:17:20

In today's episode, we're talking about the stigma and taboo-ness around women's health and the menstrual cycle. I think I can confidently say we've all experienced it and each of us has varying degrees of baggage, shame or discomfort around the topic.

I'm talking about how we can start gaining more awareness of our bodies and creating space for conversation, however you want that to look for yourself. It doesn't have to be covering ourselves with our menstrual blood and saying I AM WOMAN!, or hiding away in our rooms, pretending nothing is wrong, that you're not feeling things and all that! Let's find a happy balance that you feel confident and happy in!

Let's jump into it!

21 Oct 202458. 3 Core Pillars For Helping Solve Menstrual Health-Related Issues00:26:24

The reality is, our bodies crave simplicity and getting back to the basics. We often think that balancing hormones, getting emotionally regulated, getting our energy back and not being overwhelmed involve a whole slew of things. Yet, it's really the exact opposite. The more we try to "do" and "force", the more stressed out we're going to be, and we all know how that leads to more negative health issues.

In this episode, I'm chatting about the 3 core pillars for helping solve menstrual-health related issues (from PMS to PCOS) that bring you back to the basics. While each of these specific health issues, like endometriosis & PCOS, have their own intricacies and different approaches, these 3 pillars are a great place to start.

While these 3 points are very overarching, if you are interested in getting down to the specifics and figuring out how they can apply in your life and your specific situation, I'd love to work with you. If you'd like to chat to see if 1:1 coaching is the right fit for you, click the here and we can have a quick 10-15 minute chat!

10 Feb 202574. Exercise & Hormones: How to Move Well as a Woman With a Cycle00:17:43

Hey friend! Are you looking for ways to better incorporate movement into your life that pairs nicely with your menstrual cycle? Or are you maybe on either extremes, of not moving at all and knowing you need to start, or over-moving to the point where your body is depleted, exhausted and doing the opposite of what you want it to do?

The reality is, our bodies as women, need different movement and exercise routines than men, and when we become curious and willing to listen and learn from our bodies, we move more and more towards a place of wellness. If you're curious about movement, your menstrual cycle and hormones, have a listen to this week's episode!

29 Jan 202412. 3 Lies The Enemy Would Love You To Believe When You Are In the Middle of The Anxiety & Can’t See A Way Through It00:20:29

Hey friend, does it feel like EVERY premenstrual phase you're wrestling with the same questions, believing the same lies, thinking the same thoughts? Does it feel really hard to decipher what is true and what's false, what are lies and what is reality?

In this episode, I share 3 lies the enemy (aka Satan!) would love for you to believe and be consumed by during your premenstrual phase, so you stay stuck in the paralysis, despair and darkness.

While this is a heavy and hard topic to talk about, we need all the light of Jesus we can get when discussing it. I pray God's clarity, truth & light would fully cover you as you listen to this episode.

04 Jan 20247. ”I Have Stilled & Quieted My Soul” | An Invitation From Psalm 131 To Seek Still & Quiet00:09:38

It can often feel like the anxiety and overwhelm are so all-consuming, like there is no way around or through it. It can start to feel like we’re grasping at anything for a solution, for anything that will fix the or take away the anxiety.

Psalm 131 invites us to humbly come before God and trust that he will meet us there- even in the throes of anxiety and feeling paralyzed by overwhelm.

I encourage you to take advantage of just being with this episode. Find a quiet, comfortable place and just listen. Allow your body and mind to rest.

17 Feb 202575. Struggling to Get Enough Sleep? 6 Bible Passages About Rest, Sleep & Sabbath00:21:48

Do you struggle do get enough sleep at night? Do you feel sluggish and drained throughout the day, chugging back all the coffee to make it through, only to feel wired and "productive" at night? Does it stem from a need to keep going, producing or pushing through to prove something, or prove yourself to God?

All good questions to be asking. This week's episode is chalked full of passages and verses that not only encourage rest and retreat, but that also point us to the humble and gentle character of God.

04 Nov 202460. Take a Moment Monday: Are You Feeling Faithless Today?00:09:31

Struggling with despair? Feeling frantic or like you're on the verge of breaking down? Questioning if you are loved or if God is near?

In this week's episode, we're having a quick chat about 2 Timothy 2:13: "If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself".

This verse has been extremely comforting to me this week as I have struggled with a lot of despairing internal dialogue and difficult emotions. It gives me so much comfort to know that even when I don't have the faith, Jesus still holds me so close.

I hope this episode gives you encouragement today too.

Much love, friend.

14 Jan 202570. 4 Passages That Show God is With You in Your Pain and Suffering00:15:42

It can be easy to think of God just up there in Heaven waving a finger at us, saying "you should have this figured out by now" or "can you just pull up your bootstraps already?" But yet God is gracious and compassionate in the midst of our "figuring out", pain and suffering. Even when we're living in deliberate sin, he's still waiting on us and wants to restore us.

In this episode, I'm sharing 4 passages that point to just this. God wants to heal, wants to restore, wants to rescue. He cares that you're brokenhearted, that you're struggling with debilitating anxiety or depression again this premenstrual phase, that you're discouraged about your health and wellness journey.

Have a listen and may you encounter the God who heals and rescues.
