• Revelation 17:4, talks about the great whore of Babylon—she in her turn is an image of unbelieving Isreal

• Hamartia is found in Colossians 1:14, 2:11, 2:12
• Spiritual baptism and physical baptism are related
• Spiritual circumcision and physical baptism are related
• What then holds us back from saying that there is a connection with physical circumcision and physical baptism

• If you are interested in political theory, natural law, political science, and C.S. Lewis then this is your book

Anosios:

• Rendered as unholy
• Used in 1 Tim. 1:9, 2 Tim. 3:2
• Too many Christians see holiness in terms of a seraphic countenance and an implied halo, and thusly see unholiness as the mere absence of that -- a state of being ordinary
• But as Paul uses unholy here, it means polluted and defiled

Holiness:

• Written by J.C. Ryle

• Ryle is a master of clarity, and is a very straight forward writer
• In this book he presents the classic reformed understanding of sanctification
• Ryle shows what it is to grow in holiness and is an enormous help to Christians who want to be holy in God’s sight

Apalgeo:

• Means to be past feeling

• Only used once in the New Testament: Ephesians 4:19-20
• This refers to one whose conscience is seared, whose moral sensibilities have been deadened
• Guilt is a gift from God, without it we would destroy ourselves

• means boaster
• listed in Romans 1:30 and 2 Tim. 3:2
• vainglory always seeks to puff itself up
• let him who wants to boast, boast in the Lord
• boasting of some sort is inescapable
• giving glory to God is the heart of every sane response
