Tyler went plant based in 2017 after attending a conference where he heard a shocking statistic about greenhouse gases and animal agriculture being at 15%. After his own research, he discovered it was more like 16 – 19%. That was all it took for him to decide to do his part to not contribute the greenhouse gases to the best of his ability. He gave up meat and dairy and then cofounded Cool Beans. He immediately noticed incredibly benefits. He lost 25 pounds, increased his energy, improved his blood work numbers and much more. He cofounded Cool Beans shortly before the initial shutdowns from the pandemic. Garrick Williams is a 34 year old father and husband. Struggling most of his life with health issues related to the stomach and gut, he converted to a 100% plant based diet in the year 2012 after watching a documentary. Since making the change life has become so much more rewarding. Through the years since, Both Garrick's wife and daughter have gone fully plant based. With very few answers from doctors, Garrick thought he would live with the health issues and simply had to figure out how to make life work. All that changed when he and his then girlfriend, turned wife, watched the documentary Forks Over Knives. Jumping in with both feet, Garrick struggled the first four weeks on a plant based diet. After the four week mark, he woke up completely free of the health issues that had plagued him all his life. Changes he experienced are more energy, better focus, improved state of mind and overall feeling good. Additionally, he dropped unwanted weight and his ability to maintain a healthy weight is what he refers to as, “A God send.” Within a short period of time, Garrick discovered he had a passion for cooking. When we were first asked to “shelter at home” it seemed like a reasonable solution to a scary problem. COVID-19 appeared to come out of nowhere. Most people believed it would be a short-term situation, gladly sacrificing a few days at home for the “good of all.” Yet, truth be told, it’s likely 99.9% of people had no idea what was in store. Factory farms are shutting down due to the number of cases and deaths occurring in the very locations where “food” is processed, and the fear factor increases for a great many people. In the case of factory farms, rather than admit that these plants are breeding grounds for disease, contamination, viruses and countless injuries, the “powers that be” are doing all they can to get public support and sympathy for what they deem as a major food shortage and a break in the food supply chain. They are doing all they can to mislead the public by convincing people they will experience protein deficiency if they don’t eat animal based products. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is not the first time Dr. Pam Popper has gone against conventional wisdom and done all possible to pull the veil off people’s eyes. “When this all started, there wasn't much attention paid to it. When it started to look like something was really going to happen, the very first data didn't make any sense to me. “There were two or three dozen cases outside of China and the W.H.O. (World Health Organization) declared a pandemic. I'm thinking, “this sounds shockingly like what happened before with Swine Flu.” “In 2009 and 2010 the CDC and the W.H.O. fanned the flames to create panic in order to convince people to get the flu vaccine,” Dr. Popper points out. With the current pandemic, Dr. Popper noticed many similarities to what had happened and what was about to unfold. “I started digging into it. The more I dug, the crazier it got,” Popper states. “Every time you think you’ve heard the end of the craziness; you find something else insane that's going on.” | |||

Denny Wilson reached a weight of 350 pounds at his highest weight. Dealing with a variety of illnesses and diseases, he finally took control of his life when he realized much of the information he was being given by medical professionals was a band-aide rather than a solution. Denny lives in west Texas in what is known as the Permian Basin, in the city of Odessa, home of the real Friday Night Lights. He has been on a journey from the Standard American Diet (SAD) to a whole food plant based lifestyle. Denny had a heart attack 7 years ago after having 100% blockage in the left anterior descending artery (LAD). He was living in a rural town at the time where the staff treated him for heartburn. When the blood enzyme levels were reported back to the staff after being sent two towns over to be tested in a lab, they sent him by life flight to the hospital. He received a stent and spent a week in the hospital trying to recover. After being released, Denny was scheduled for rehab for 12 weeks, which included making some adjustments to the diet, but with what was basically a calorie restricted diet combined with 5 day a week exercise. Initially, Denny lost some weight and started seeing some of the numbers of his astronomical blood glucose levels come down (had been in the 600s) and his blood pressure stabilize after being at stroke and heart attack levels for years). When it comes to reading labels, Sophia DeSantis is in a league all her own. Not only does she unravel the lies hidden on labels, she also teaches her clients how to do the same. Sophia’s journey into plant-based eating began with her husband’s health was becoming a huge concern. After having two babies within 15 months of each other, the stress for both Sophia an her husband was mounting. Sophia’s husband was on high blood pressure medication and cholesterol medication, and had bee most of his adult life. The medication was not working like it had, which added to their concerns and stress. Fortunately, the cardiologist was very forward thinking. He gave Sophia’s husband a couple of choices. One, keep doing what you’re doing and increase medications or change his diet to one that was more plant based. Having grown up in a Greek household, this was not a change they anticipated. Both Sophia and her husband consumed meat and dairy as part of their food protocol. The cardiologist recommended the documentary, Forks Over Knives. This was a life changing decision for the DeSantis family. They decided to try a dramatic change for at least 21 days. They eliminated gluten, sugar, alcohol, all animal products from the start. Claudia Ganswind has made it her mission to raise awareness about the benefits of a plant-based diet. Never one to really enjoy eating meat, Claudia is a German-Italian raw food chef who became vegan in the year 2000. Starting out as a raw food chef, Claudia found she enjoyed various types of plant-based eating. As a child, Claudia’s father continually tried to convince her that she needed to eat meat and eggs in order to grow and be healthy, but deep inside, she knew this was not who she was. She made the connection between meat on her plate and animal cruelty very early in her life, but it was not until years later she made the lifestyle commitment to become vegan. Although Claudia started as a vegetarian, she fully committed to her vegan journey when her two sisters became vegan and educated her about what veganism was actually about. Similarly, thanks to a vegan chef at a vegetarian festival, she was also informed on how animals are treated and how nature is suffering because of factory farming. Ryan Furman was the typical all-American dude. Raised to believe he needed meat and potatoes to survive, his claim to fame on his 18th birthday was to eat a 49 oz steak in ONE sitting. At 6’2″ and 145 lbs. soaking wet, Ryan was determined to put muscle on his thin frame. In spite of eating what he believed to be a healthy diet (most of the time) his level of exhaustion prevented him from living the life he knew he could. He was misinformed about what to eat and how to eat. Frustrated with the amount of medication he needed to reduce his cholesterol; he knew he needed a change. The more he learned about exercise and nutrition, the more he realized how much he still didn’t know. Thus began his journey into nutrition. If you are not one who frequents TikTok, this post may not make sense. However, if you’ve been on TikTok for any length of time, you know it can be like going into the Twilight Zone. It was actually during a recent visit to TikTok that I was compelled to write this post and release the most current episode on the Plant Based Eating for Health podcast show. Let me preface by saying that TikTok is a great way to unwind at the end of the day and watch funny animal videos, heartwarming rescue videos, vegan recipe videos, and success journeys of people turning their lives around. It’s a harmless way, so I thought, to enjoy the perspective of men and women around the globe. Yet, every so often, a video pops up that you have to wonder, “What is the person thinking?” Granted, the question, in and of itself is judgmental, but as humans, we do tend to judge. Not many people escape the clutches of judgement. Some more than others. On this particular occasion, a video came in my thread of a woman who was morbidly, morbidly obese, sitting in front of dozens of cheeseburgers, tacos, fries, cupcakes, and several large plastic cups of soda. Now please know, this is not at all about fat shaming… at all. However, it is about questioning why someone would find it necessary to prop themselves up in front of the camera to literally stuff their face with untold amounts of unhealthy food. You can well imagine the comments people left about her gluttonous ways, to which her canned response was, “I feel great, and I am healthy.” Likely neither are true, but she stands by her statement. Sadly, young people are being influenced by these types of videos. Currently, there is a major health crisis going on. One that began long before the pandemic and shutdowns. Like most children who grew up in the Midwest on a subsistence farm, Caroline Allen was taught to be kind to animals and love them on the one hand, and to butcher them for food on the other hand. Hunting and fishing were all part of life on the farm and one Caroline prided herself in being very skilled at. Caroline describes her upbringing as very loving, yet very poor… dirt poor. Eager to leave the rural life behind, Caroline jumped at the chance to get a four year degree in journalism when she was awarded a scholarship. University was light years from where her mother and father were with their education. Neither had graduated high school opting to get their GED in their sixties and seventies. Knowing what it was like to be dirt poor, without an education, Caroline was determined to make something of herself. With a definition of success that included travel, money, a fast paced life and “being somebody” Caroline had no clue what was in store. After obtaining her degree, she set off to see the world, using her writing skills as the ticket out of the rural life. Her impressive resume includes being a newsroom journalist in Tokyo and London, travels to exotic places and living a bona-fide jet setting lifestyle. After working as a journalist in Tokyo, after working in a newsroom during the death of Emperor Hirohito and the cultural sea change that wrought, Caroline spent a year traveling Southeast Asia — India, Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia. Yet, life as she knew it came to a screeching halt at a point where most people would say she made it. Feeling a strong call to give up the life she had grown accustomed to, Caroline knew there was a bigger purpose to her life, but she had no idea what that was. Although she loved the crazy, jet-setting life that was world’s away from her impoverished, rural Missouri upbringing, something was calling her. That something was art, book coaching and most importantly, a commitment to complete compassion to animals and the planet through a vegan lifestyle. What followed were many years of self-exploration, Wretched, painful years of confusion, despair, and heart-break. Not sure if she was having a break-through or a break-down, everything that defined her was taken away. Thus, began the journey of rebuilding her life from the ground up. Struggling with food allergies from a young age, Jaclyn Rae, founder of Jaclyn Creations, discovered the health benefits of a plant based/vegan diet over eight years ago. Highly allergic to animal protein, Jaclyn began a lifelong journey that has led her to becoming a nutritionist, author and advocate for cruelty free food consumption. Initially she started as a raw food vegan and over time incorporated cooked foods into her own personal protocol. One of her greatest driving forces for her lifestyle choices are the desire to help as many people as possible get healthy AND reduce her carbon footprint. Working with clients Jaclyn determines if she is a good fit before working with a potential client. She encourages those who may not have support at home with going vegan to join MeetUps, Facebook and other online groups. She knows how important it is for people to feel welcome and safe, especially when they don’t have support at home. With the pandemic, this is not as much of an option as it used to be. Yet, there are options to bring Jaclyn to the store remotely. Simply put, the client can show via their phone what selections they are making. When Families Give Push Back It is not uncommon for families to not fully support one’s choice in giving up animal and dairy foods. They may even experience push back. Jaclyn recommends trying to put yourself in your family’s shoes. Have you been known to try different lifestyle choices, only to go back to what you had been doing previously? Is going “vegan” a faze…at least from your family’s perspective? Are you being too rigid too soon? If you are someone who insists everyone follow your lead by going plant-base/vegan, this could be why others are resistant. The best choice is to meet people where they are at. For some, they make the change to a cruelty free diet for health. Others, for the animas. Still others, for the environment. And still others, for all three reasons. A very common expression is, “I came for health and stayed for the animals.” The longer one is vegan, there more committed they tend to be to all the benefits of being vegan and the more likely it is their families will accept their choice. Before adopting a plant-based nutrition and the newfound knowledge, Olivier Mankondo weighed 220 pounds. Not realizing a byproduct of eating plant-based was weight loss, he was pleasantly shocked when he released 11 pounds the first week. Now 143 pounds, Olivier loves sharing his story. MOTIVATION Being overweight was not what motivated him to go plant-based. It was after hearing an Indian Yogi, Sadhguru, who encourages people to eat consciously. “Animal products are not designed for the human body,” was what impacted Olivier most with the teachings of Sadguru. This made sense to Olivier. Within a day of hearing Sadguru, he gave up animal in his diet. Not only did he lose 11 pounds in the first week, he quickly noticed he was feeling better than he had in quite a while. Having dealt with high blood pressure, daily headaches, chest pain, back pain, abscesses, joint pain, and cold sores for as long as he could remember, there was a marked difference with all of this after he changed his eating protocol.
