Perfume Legend Roja Dove is in the Perfume Room today! Creator of the first Haute Parfumerie, Founder and Perfumer of the ever-luxurious Roja Parfums, Chairman of the Fragrance Foundation UK, and Culture Ambassador for Great Britain, it seems that all Roja touches turns to gold (in fact, you can find gold flakes in his signature scent ;)). 

Today he takes us back to his earliest scent memories, recounts multiple pivotal moments in his lifelong fragrance career (a career which he fondly recalls having ‘pestered’ his way into), and shares why we must be willing to flirt [with perfumes] until we find our perfect match. Chronotope Founder and Perfumer Carter Weeks Maddox is in the Perfume Room today! Though Carter is an entirely self-taught perfumer, the lens through which he creates is backed by an MA in Critical Theory. He wrote his thesis on manifestations of the chronotope within women's postwar life writing and his fragrances in many ways exist as the olfactive manifestation of his studies. We discuss issues of colonialism in scent culture, how Carter reclaimed (and recreated) smells of his personal trauma (for profit hehe), the notion of fragrance as performance art, as well as the question at the heart of it all: for whose gaze do we wear scent?

Maya Njie (of Maya Njie perfume) is a self-taught, London-based perfumer who combines her own scent memories, Swedish and Gambian roots, imagination, and design background to translate photos into scents. Together Mane Junior Perfumer Ugo Charron and Journalist Emma Dancourt, who lives with congenital anosmia (meaning she has never smelled), set out on a most challenging endeavor: to create Emma’s signature scent. A team of just four perfumers with infinite niche perfume launches to their name, Flair is easily one of the best houses of our time, and Margaux is one to watch.
