10 Aug 2021 | Kirrily Dear and Mark Grima are Running Against Violence. | 00:40:46
Welcome to the Peak Endurance podcast! Episode 121 is an interview with Kirrily Dear from Run Against Violence, and Mark Grima, from Team One Zero Six’s.
For 19 days in 2017, solo ultra marathon runner, Kirrily Dear, ran 1300km from Broken Hill to Sydney to give a voice to the often silent victims of family violence. Family and domestic violence, whether physical or psychological, is increasingly being recognised as the social challenge of our time. Public conversation around the issue is building; however, we often overlook the children - those who hear and see the violence, or are directly targeted. Too often, these children don’t have the chance to tell their own story. In 2017Kirrily asked the nation to stop and listen to these young people. Many people who experience family violence bear their pain in silence. They fear the stigma and social isolation that may result from speaking out about their experiences. Conversations break that silence and educate the community. People who experience violence can feel stigmatised and alone. They don't reach out for help for fear of their safety and what people will say and think. Every one of us has the power to change that. By starting conversations, we rip down those social barriers. That makes it much easier for people to ask for help and to heal from their experiences.
Starting 30 August 2021, groups of up to 20 people can virtually walk or run 1300km from Broken Hill to Sydney. The route retraces the real-world 2017 StepsTogether Ultramarathon. More than 3000 people across the world have participated online in the Challenge. This year it is expected to be even bigger.
I hope you enjoy this episode, so it would be wonderful if you could subscribe and write a review. This helps to boost the ratings of the show and thus increase its’ audience reach. I appreciate your help!

15 Jun 2022 | Mental toughness for ultra-runners. | 00:17:19
Hello and welcome back to the podcast! I hope your running and training is going well and if you are in Australia you are enjoying the cold weather, and we seem to be having a lot of it!!
It’s been a busy couple of weeks for me. I ran the 42k at Wandi Cross. I ran this just as a training run and to have fun. I wanted to enjoy racing again without any pressure and boy I did. It was great! I loved the course: steep climbs, runnable downs and some steep slippery downs that ended up with me sliding on my butt! So much fun. Next up Ron and I are going to be sweeping the Surf Coast Trail marathon this weekend, so look out for us there!
Thank you so much to the Mel Thek who gave the podcast 5 stars and said:

30 Nov 2020 | Lazarus Lake; creator of The Barkley Marathons and The Big Backyard Ultra. | 01:05:08
Episode 81 is another interview the enigmatic Lazarus Lake. Laz (real name Gary Cantrell) is an endurance race designer and director. His unusual races include the Barkley Marathons, Big's Backyard Ultra, Barkley Fall Classic, and The Vol State 500K. In 2018, he walked across the United States, starting in Rhode Island and ending in Oregon.
This year he organized the Great Virtual Race Across Tennessee (#GVRAT), which started on May 1st and ended four months later. During that period (123 days), the more than 19,000 participants - from all over the world - averaged over 5 miles per day to run (virtually from their hometown/country) a total of 635miles / 1021km, and so crossing virtually the entire state of Tennessee.
I first met Laz at the 2018 Barkley Fall Classic, then again at the actual Barkley marathons in 2019. As you will find, he is a very interesting guy and lots of fun to talk to.

01 May 2020 | Lucy Bartholomew; an amazing athlete with such a positive outlook! | 00:29:23
Episode 40 is a chat with the amazing Lucy Bartholomew. For such a young athlete she sure has accomplished a lot. It helps that she started racing at the young age of 15. Check out her website in the show notes to see all the races she has competed in and podiumed at. There are too many to mention, but a few from 2018 are 1st & Course Record Two Bays 56km, 1st Female & Course Record, Tarawera 60km and 1st Female & Course Record, Shotover Moonlight marathon. You can see the pattern! I hope you enjoy our conversation!
Isn’t Lucy amazing? So mature for such a young woman. I think she is dealing with the set-backs of this time in a very positive manner. A take away for me is that she is seeing this year as a time to get stronger and fitter so she can have an even bigger impact in 2021. Fingers crossed UTMB goes ahead for her!
As always, I would greatly appreciate your support by going over to Apple podcasts to subscribe, rate and review!

29 Sep 2020 | Alex Hutchinson; author of the book 'Endure. Mind, Body and the Curiously Elastic Limits of Human Performance'. | 00:43:26
Episode 66 is an interview with Alex Hutchinson, the author of the book Endure; Mind, Body and the Curiously Elastic Limits of Human Performance. In Endure Alex Hutchinson, Ph.D., reveals why our individual limits may be determined as much by our head and heart, as by our muscles. He presents an overview of science's search for understanding human fatigue, from crude experiments with electricity and frogs' legs to sophisticated brain imaging technology. Going beyond the traditional mechanical view of human limits, he instead argues that a key element in endurance is how the brain responds to distress signals-whether heat, or cold, or muscles screaming with lactic acid-and reveals that we can train to improve brain response.
Do you have injuries or niggles ruining your enjoyment of running and hindering your performance? Running is not just good for our physical health, but our mental health too! Welcome to the podcast! Episode 99 is an interview with Luke Nelson, chiropractor at Health and high Performance.
In this episode we discuss ITB syndrome. ITB syndrome tends to be a common new runner’s injury but is not only limited to beginner runners. Plenty of experienced runners have to deal with this, especially those of us who love getting out in the hills! In this podcast we discuss how to deal with this very annoying condition. When I was a new runner I made the classic mistake of upping my mileage too quickly and succumbed to ITB syndrome and was promptly told by my specialist at the time to take 6 months off running!! No such advice here; Luke gives you realistic advice, but as always we both advocate for seeing a specialist to have the condition diagnosed so you know exactly what you are dealing with!
If you enjoy this episode, please go on over to Apple podcasts to rate, review and subscribe. It really helps grow the audience and help me get high profile athletes on the show. Thanks so much for your ongoing support!
If you are looking to challenge your limits, you need to have structured, individualised training to help you get there. If you want to achieve your best, email me isobel@peakendurancecoaching.com.au to get a program started.
Enjoy this injury special with Luke!

17 Mar 2020 | Coaching roundtable special. Coronavirus: how do we reframe our running goals becaus of Covid 19, showing compassion for race directors and trying to stay positive in these difficult times | 00:50:14
Hi and welcome to the Peak Endurance Podcast. My name is Isobel Ross and I am the coach at Peak Endurance Coaching. Today’s podcast is a coronavirus special. I know we are all sick of hearing about it, but we are at an historic moment in time. This is a big deal for the human race and we want to look back on it knowing we did the best we could for all of our society. That we cared about others and showed empathy for all people. I believe we will get through this, and hopefully we can look back on this time as a period where people came together to help one another and that we all maintained our dignity and strength in these difficult times. I know it feels totally out of control at the moment, but a good mantra is ‘this too will pass’ as all difficult times do. We will get through this and be better and stronger for it.
The situation with coronavirus is changing daily, if not hourly. Please understand that when listening to this podcast; we recorded on the 17th March, you may be listening at a different date. Keep this in mind.
I hope you got something out of this podcast. I think runners are naturally a resilient bunch and I know we are great at supporting each other. I wish you all the best and please take care of yourself and your loved ones. I hope to see you at a race in the not too distant future.
Don’t forget to get on over to apple podcast to rate and review! Thanks for your support.

In this interview, we discuss RED-s. Relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S) is a syndrome in which disordered eating (or low energy availability), amenorrhoea/oligomenorrhoea, and decreased bone mineral density (osteoporosis and osteopenia) are present. RED-S is the broader, more comprehensive name for what was formerly known as female athlete triad (or simply the triad), which was a condition seen in females participating in sports that emphasize leanness or low body weight. As it was also seen in males, the name was changed to the comprehensive term RED-S.
RED-S is a serious illness with lifelong health consequences and can potentially be fatal.
RED-S is a serious mental and physical condition, so please be mindful of this when trying to help someone that you suspect has this condition. Feel free to message me for tips on how to talk with someone about this. Not that I am an expert, but having experienced it I may be able to help with suitable ways to approach the topic.
Please don’t forget to get on over to apple podcast to rate and review! It really does help me get more high profile guests on the podcast! Thanks for your support.

09 Oct 2020 | Bern Dornum: member of Team Thunder AR in Eco-Challenge. | 00:43:50
Episode 69 is an interview with Bernadette Dornum. Bern has a background of triathlon and Ironman but then began competing more and more in adventure racing and multisport after racing the Hawaiian Ironman world champs in 2015. Her adventure racing team Thunderbolt AR were undefeated in the inaugural 4 round national series in 2017 and made the top ten in the Adventure Racing World Series ranking. While expedition racing takes up most of her time (and leave from work), often racing nonstop for 5+days, she still manages to combine it with the odd ironman, on or off road triathlon and always loves a good trail run. Bern is certainly someone who can never say no to a challenge and loves giving anything a go, getting stronger the longer it goes and the more sports or activities that are involved.

21 Apr 2020 | Coaching Roundtable | 01:12:24
Episode 37 is another Coaches Roundtable. We really tried to avoid Coronavirus talk too much (as I think we’ve all heard enough) but it truly is hard to avoid, so you will hear some references to it. This episode we focused on goal setting for short and long term, as well as looking at rest/recovery again, especially in relation to these times. I really hope you enjoy the podcast!
I really enjoyed this discussion, and it was interesting that it helped Daniel feel better; I hope it did the same for you.
Now I know I said last podcast that my next podcast would be an interview with Mike Wardian. I really think this quarantine time is a great time to do a life audit. How long have you been telling yourself you’re going to focus on your training, become more committed and focused? How often have you thought about how much you want to do a certain race, but haven’t because you don’t feel you would be able to manage it? Well, if this quarantine has taught me anything is that we can’t take anything for granted, and it can all be taken away from us in the blink of an eye. This will end, so start planning for the future now. Actually get committed and focused in your training now, decide to do that challenging race (next year obviously!!). You can do this with structured and well-planned training with Peak Endurance Coaching. Email me at isobel@peakendurancecoaching.com.au and lets get your training moving in the right direction.
Have a great week of training, stay safe, stay fit, look after your loved ones, and remember; we are all in this together.

24 Apr 2020 | Mike Wardian: Quarantine Backyard Ultra Winner. | 00:43:05
Episode 38 is an interview with Michael Wardian. Michael Wardian is an American marathoner and ultra-marathoner. He won the 2008, 2009 and 2010 US 50 km championships and the 2011 US 50 mile championship. In 2008, he won the U.S. National 100 km championship. Mike is known for the large number of marathons and races he participates in, often with little to no recovery time. During a 45-day span in 2006, he won four out of five marathons he raced. In 2007, he ran 13 marathons (not including ultra-marathons), and seven marathons in a span of nine weeks (winning three).] March 2008 Mike won the National Marathon in Washington D.C. on a Saturday, and then finished third at a marathon in Knoxville, Tennessee the very next day. In 2008, Michael ran a total of 53 races. He set the world record for fastest marathon while pushing a jogging stroller from May 2007 to November 2009. In January 2017, Mike ran seven marathons in seven days on seven continents in a record average speed of 2:45. He is also a former record holder of the fastest Marathon on a treadmill, as well as setting the record for fastest indoor 200-meter track marathon record, with a time of 2:27:21 in 2010.
To this unbelievable list of achievements (and believe me there are many more I didn’t mention) Michael can also add being the winner of the Quarantine backyard Ultra. He completed 63 laps in 63 hours with a total of 262.5 miles (which is 422.625 kms for those of us in Australia!!) Mike shares with us the details of the race, and how he is dealing with quarantine in general.

25 Mar 2020 | Leigh Iacovangelo: Physiotherapist at Rise Health Group | 00:22:30
Hi and welcome to the Peak Endurance Podcast. My name is Isobel Ross and I am the coach at Peak Endurance Coaching. This podcast is the second in a series on the different physical therapies that runners can use to help keep them running. Today I am talking to Leigh Iacovangelo (pronounced YACKA VAN G LOW), a physiotherapist. Leigh is the clinical director and partner of RISE Health Group, A multidisciplinary allied health practice in Rowville and Scoresby.
Leigh is an experienced physiotherapist whose current responsibilities include the assessment and management of 800+ athletes at the Rowville Sports Academy. He possesses an expanded skill set and knowledge in strength & conditioning and athletic development that aids in the development of performance or comprehensive rehabilitation programs.
Leigh’s clinical approach is very broad and can include treatment approaches developed through postgraduate study in Pilates, dry needling and advanced exercise prescription. His reputation for clinical excellence resulted in his appointment as the Head Physiotherapist for the Australian Indoor Hockey Team since 2015 and a physiotherapist for Melbourne United Basketball in the NBL since 2019.
He currently conducts high performance programs (strength & conditioning & rehabilitation) for professional golfers, Australian level hockey players and elite ultra-runners.
Leigh is happy to see both novice and sub-elite athletes.
Leigh clearly has a passion for what he does, and I can tell you from personal experience that he is an excellent physiotherapist. I found it interesting that he believes, like Luke Nelson, in the importance of calf strength. Something for all us runners to keep in mind!

26 May 2020 | Kate Smyth: Sports Naturopath | 00:41:40
Kate Smyth is an Australian marathon runner. She set her personal best time of 2:28:51, by finishing second at the 2008 Nagano Olympic Commemorative Marathon in Japan.
At age thirty-five, she competed at 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where she successfully finished the race with a time of 2:36:10. Kate also ran in the marathon at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, coming in seventh place.
Taken from her website, athlete sanctuary; it says that Kate developed her passion for natural medicine during her career as an elite endurance athlete competing in the women’s marathon for Australia at the Olympic and Commonwealth Games and becoming one of the all-time fastest women in Australia. Her journey was not without challenges and she required the assistance of many holistic health practitioners from around the world, to overcome and manage multiple injuries, chronic fatigue and coeliac’s disease to progress from fun runner to Olympian in just eight years. She still runs most days albeit retired from serious competition.
During her sporting career Kate identified the need for an holistic service tailored to the unique requirements of athletes and set about creating an innovative sports naturopathy service which offers natural, effective and non-invasive treatment options to athletes.
Kate came onto the podcast to discuss the nutritional issues directly related to runners. Enjoy!
So, what did you think? I was surprised to learn that 2 litres is the minimum you should drink! I thought I was doing so well to drink 1 and ½!! I need to work on that one obviously! What did you learn? Please let me know! Also, if you got value out of this podcast and would like me to interview Kate again, email or DM me or comment on the podcast post your questions and I will try to get those covered!
I really enjoy creating this podcast, but of course it is truly a labour of love. The only payment I receive is your support in the form of subscriptions, ratings and reviews! The time I put in and the cost of the equipment I use is all mine, so I truly appreciate when you show that I am giving you some value. Thank you all.
I am in the process of accepting new athletes into my coaching programs. If you are interested in getting some quality structured coaching, I have limited spaces available. Email me on Isobel@peakendurancecoaching.com.auor DM me on socials.
Kate's website is here: https://athletesanctuary.com.au/
Have a great week, restrictions are easing but remember to keep doing the right thing!

16 Feb 2021 | George Dyer and The Great Train Run | 01:13:07
Episode 93 is an interview with George Dyer.
Over 11 days in June 2020, George ran over 560km to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. He started with a 100km run at Knox Athletics Track on 7 June and recently completed a ‘Great Train Run’, which saw him run the entire length of the metropolitan train network. The effort was inspired by the early passing of George’s mother, at age 60, from breast cancer. George decided to dedicate the month of June to fundraising, with his two daughters, Ashley and Taylor, who dyed their hair pink. I first heard about George through a friend of mine, Jodie Street. One of her friends has breast cancer and they ran a portion of one of his runs with him. Jodie and I were out running a few weeks ago and we passed George. We stopped to chat and when I heard about George’s run, I knew I had to interview him!
In collaboration with Wild Earth, every month I will bring a short interview with Anderson (Ando) Moquiuti. He will keep us up to date on the latest gear for trail or ultra running, or pretty much any other adventure you could imagine! Our first interview is in this episode, I hope you find it interesting!

19 Jan 2021 | Matt Fitzgerald: The Comeback Quotient | 00:58:05
Episode 88 is a third interview with the brilliant and prolific author Matt Fitzgerald. Last time I interviewed him about his book How Bad Do You Want It? which discusses the mindsets required for running well. This interview focuses on his latest book The Comeback Quotient, A get Real Guide to Building Mental Fitness in Sport and Life.
I will read you the online description of his book:
A good comeback makes a great story. In The Comeback Quotient, sports journalist Matt shares the stories of top athletic comebacks, to give you inspiration and tools for your own comeback in sport or life.
Every sports fan loves a great comeback. Is there a special quality shared by top athletes who triumph over great challenges? And can anyone acquire it? In The Comeback Quotient, Matt supplies the answer to both questions. He identifies these mega-achievers of astounding athletic comebacks as 'ultrarealists,' men and women who succeed where others fail by fully accepting, embracing, and addressing the reality of their situations. From ultrarunners like Rob Krar to triathletes like Mirinda Carfrae to rowers, skiers, cyclists, and runners all over the world, Fitzgerald highlights and speculates on just what makes these comebacks so compelling. As for whether anyone can stage his or her own great comeback, the answer is a resounding yes: Anyone can become an ultrarealist to some degree.
In the tradition of How Bad Do You Want It?, The Comeback Quotient combines gripping sports stories with mind-blowing science to deliver a book that will forever change how you perceive the challenges you face, giving you the inspiration and the tools to make the next great comeback you witness your own.

09 Jun 2020 | Matt Fitzgerald; 80/20 Running | 00:37:50
Episode 47 is an interview with Matt Fitzgerald about his book 80/20 Running. Matt is an award-winning endurance sports journalist and bestselling author of more than 20 books on running, triathlon, fitness, nutrition, and weight loss, including Brain Training for Runners and Racing Weight. His byline appears regularly in national publications including Men's Journal, Outside, and Women's Running. Matt is an experienced running and triathlon coach and certified sports nutritionist. New research proves that runners of all experience and ability levels improve most when they do 80 percent of their training at low intensity. Yet the typical recreational runner does less than half of his or her training in this intensity zone. In his book 80/20 Running, Matt makes the case for slowing down to get faster and shows runners how to break out of the moderate-intensity rut. I believe deeply in this principle and see too many runners getting into this rut. Listen to this podcast with an open mind and reap the benefits in your running! His book 80/20 Running is on Amazon.
Matt's website is: https://mattfitzgerald.org/ I hope you now have a greater appreciation for the benefits to slowing down on many of your runs. The grey zone is to be avoided at all costs! Let me know your thoughts either in the comments on the podcast Instagram page or by DM.

He is the author or coauthor of several running books, including Running Is My Therapy, Advanced Marathoning, and Meb for Mortals. 15 Nov 2022 | Scott Beams; the nicest guy in ultrarunning! | 01:12:38
Welcome to the Peak Endurance podcast! Episode 180 is an episode where Ron and I chat with one of Scott Beams. Ron and I met Scott when I asked for pacers for my 7 Peaks FKT. Scott stepped up to the plate and was brilliant in his pacing duties. He then helped in my fundraising run for Red Nose Day when I ran from Bourke St Mt Buller to Bourke St in the city. He has also helped many other people achieve their running goals. In this episode we discuss how he got into running, his training, nutrition and sleep schedules. Scott definitely has an unconventional approach, but it clearly works well for him! We recorded this interview when we are in Bright for the Four Peaks race. Scott is a funny and incredibly kind person as I am sure you will get from this interview.

06 Jul 2022 | Sean Bell runs from Cairns to Melbourne!! | 00:50:56
Hi and welcome back to the Peak Endurance podcast. My name is Isobel and episode 162 is an interview with Sean Bell. Sean is a runner for Run for Wishes and an ASICS Australia Sound Mind Sound Body ambassador. He is a 24 year old from Melbourne, Victoria, with an extraordinary passion for using his running to light up the lives of others. Sean believes his purpose is to inspire others to realise how precious life is, so that they spend more time with the people they love and chase their dreams now, because we are not promised tomorrow. Sean was planning a 14,000km run starting on Sunday February 27, 2022, to raise money and awareness for Make-A-Wish® Australia. However, covid put paid to that, so Sean did what we’ve all done, and changed his plans. Instead, he thought he would do a test run for the big event and that’s how the idea for his run from Cairns to Melbourne was born. In this podcast I chat with Sean and Steve (one of his support crew) about how the run went. You can help Sean raise money for the make a wish foundation by going to the website seanbellrunforwishes If you want to achieve the best you are capable of, check out my website to find out about my live event! 03 Aug 2021 | Luke Nelson: Hamstring Tendinopathy | 00:42:05
Welcome to the Peak Endurance podcast! Episode 120 is another interview with Luke Nelson, chiropractor at Health and high Performance.
In this episode we discuss hamstring Tendinopathy. A hamstring tendinopathy is an over use injury of the high hamstring tendon where it attaches to the ischial tuberosity (sit bone of the buttock). Typically, this condition occurs in runners who have suddenly increased their training volume/intensity, or started hill running. Those with a developed hamstring tendinopathy will complain of a deep, annoying buttock pain during activities such as hill walking, running and/or prolonged sitting/driving.
I hope you enjoy this episode, so it would be wonderful if you could hit subscribe and write a review. This helps to boost the ratings of the show and thus increase its’ audience reach. I appreciate your help!

14 Apr 2020 | Brooke Stratton; Olympic Athlete | 00:23:18
Episode 35 is a chat with Brooke Stratton. Brooke is an Olympic athlete who is the current Australian & Oceanic Record Holder in long jump. Brooke started her career at the Nunawading Little Athletics centre at the age of 5. She competed at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing and later at the 2016 Summer Olympics finishing seventh.
Her personal best in the event is 7.05 metres set at the Perth Track Classic on March 12, 2016, breaking the 14-year-old Australian record held by Bronwyn Thompson.
She was selected for the Australian Athletics team (in long jump) at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Queensland placing 2nd
Brooke Stratton is not my usual athletic interviewee as she is not an ultra runner. However, I felt that her story is very relevant to all distance, trail and ultra runners. Brooke was, until very recently, preparing herself for her A-event of the year; the Tokyo Olympics. As devastating as it is for us when our local 50k is cancelled, Brooke’s situation puts our own in perspective. I cannot even begin to imagine what it would be like to prepare for an event for years and to have that cancelled. I thought a chat with an Olympian would be the best way to find out. I hope you enjoy our conversation

28 Jul 2020 | Stacy Sims: Women Are Not Small Men | 00:47:16
Episode 54 is an interview with Stacy Sims, author of the book ‘Roar’. Stacy T. Sims, Ph.D., is an applied researcher, innovator, and entrepreneur in human performance, specifically sex differences in training, nutrition, and environmental conditions. Prior to being launched into industry, she served as an exercise physiologist and nutrition scientist at Stanford University from 2007 to 2012, where she specialized in sex differences with environmental and nutritional considerations for recovery and performance, specializing in women's health and performance. With the unique opportunities Silicon Valley has to offer, during her tenure at Stanford, she had the opportunity to translate earlier research into consumer products and a science-based layperson's book (ROAR) written to explain sex differences in training and nutrition across the lifespan. Both the consumer products and the book challenged the existing dogma for women in exercise, nutrition, and health. Her contributions to the international research environment and the sports nutrition industry has established a new niche in sports nutrition; and established her reputation as the expert in sex differences in training, nutrition, and health. As a direct result, she has been named: One of the top 50 visionaries of the running industry (2015) One of the top 40 women changing the paradigm of her field (2017) by Outside Magazine. One of the top four visionaries in the outdoor sports industry (2017) by Outside Magazine - Genius Issue One of the top four individuals changing the landscape in triathlon nutrition (2017) by Triathlete Magazine A regularly featured speaker at professional and academic conferences, including those hosted by US Olympic Committee, High-Performance Sport NZ, and USA Cycling, is a Senior Research Associate at AUT University and resides at the beach in Mt. Maunganui, New Zealand with her husband and young daughter. Are injuries or niggles ruining your enjoyment of running and hindering your performance? 05 Jan 2021 | Maggie Guterl; amazing ultra runner and first woman to win Bigs Backyard. | 00:52:16
Episode 86 is an interview with the amazing athlete Maggie Guterl. Maggie made headlines when she won Big’s Backyard Ultra in 2019, a ‘last man standing’-style event run by Lazarus Lake (organiser of the infamous Barkley Marathons) which sees runners cover a 6.7km loop on repeat. Each lap must be completed within an hour and starts again on the hour and after that, it’s a battle to see which competitor outlasts the rest. Maggie completed 60 laps to cover a mind-boggling 402.5kms and win it outright – the first woman to do so. Maggie has also competed for Team USA at the IAU 24-Hour World Championships, she’s won the Brazos Bend 100-miler outright, come second at the Georgia Death Race and 8th at Western States, amongst other things. IN this interview we discuss her win at Bigs and what it will take to succeed at Barkley in 2021.
I used to think that to get running injuries sorted, one needed to see a physio. How wrong was I! I have been seeing Luke Nelson, chiropractor at Health and High Performance in Mont Albert. Luek is a sports chiropractor who specialises in runners. He has been amazing at helping get on top of the niggles I have had since GSER back in 2019. Let Luke help you get on top of any niggles or injuries you may have now, so that you can enjoy running again and get back to preparing for the upcoming race season or just so that you run pain free! Come in and see Luke or any of the other specialists at Health and High Performance where they utilise the latest in technology, and experience, to help you get back to your running best. So, head to www.healthhp.com.au/run to book an appointment. I assure you, you won’t regret it! IN fact, Luke and I have a new podcast interview all about Plantar Fasciitis coming out soon!

08 Nov 2022 | Lourdes talks about Tor Des Geants 2022 | 01:19:30
Welcome to the Peak Endurance podcast! Episode 179 is an episode where Ron and I chat with one of my good friends that I met whilst I lived in Canada. We recently caught up with her and ran with her a couple of times on our trip earlier this year. Lourdes is always doing an amazing race in some far-flung location and recently she ran Tor Des Geants. This is a race I REALLY want to do so I thought I would get her on the pod to chat about this amazing event. As you will hear, she has had many ups and downs this year running all over the world, the lucky thing. In fact, she messaged me after we recorded to say she forgot one race, the Blackfoot 50 miler in May. I was meant to do that race back in 2018 but had to go home to Australia as my mum had just had a stroke. Difficult times. But anyway, keep that in mind when you hear her talk about all her races. Lourdes is such a great person, so easy-going and chatty. If you’re listening with kids in the car, please be warned the f-bomb may have been dropped. It was part of the conversation and to be honest isn’t that word just part of conversation now!! And my interviews tend to be fun conversations with awesome people, so it happens! Ron and I had so much fun chatting with Lourdes, she is hilarious as you will find out!
Do you love the pod? God I hope so!! If you do, did you know that it is super easy to go onto Apple Podcasts and give the show 5 stars (if you think it deserves it!!) and wrote a short review. I don’t get paid to do this (in fact it costs me!!) but knowing that it means something to YOU makes me keep plugging away at it. The link to Apple podcasts is here.

Already in its 3rd print run in the UK since September 2015, ‘The Oxygen Advantage®’ is set to revolutionise how we train, by addressing dysfunctional breathing patterns and simulating high altitude training through specific breath holding exercises as devised by Patrick.I read this book a few years ago, and this chat was a great reminder of all of the benefits of focusing on our breathing. I found this chat so informative and interesting. I hope you love listening to it as much as I did recording it!

28 Apr 2020 | Stuart Hinds: soft tissue therapist | 00:37:10
This podcast is the third in a series on the different physical therapies that runners can use to help keep them running. Today I am talking to Stuart Hinds, a leading Australian soft tissue therapist with over 27 years’ experience in professional practice. He regularly lectures on remedial soft tissue techniques at Victoria University (Melbourne, Australia), and is internationally recognized for his work with the Australian Olympic Teams (Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012). Stuart has pioneered his own technique for treating hip pain and dysfunction (the NAT Hip Technique) and regularly publishes articles in local and international industry journals and mainstream publications relating to soft tissue treatments and musculoskeletal dysfunction. In 2016, Stuart was awarded a lifetime membership with Massage & Myotherapy Australia for his significant support and contribution to the industry.
A big take away for me was that Stuart does not think massage rollers are the best alternative for massage. Spiky balls are much more effective. However, in this time of COVID-19, anything is better than nothing. Stuart can be found for massage here: http://www.bstt.com.au
I hope you are all coping well with Quarantine. These are difficult times. Keep up your training to ensure you are healthy, both phycially and mentally. If you’re thinking of getting coaching for your next race or adventure, shoot me an email at isobel@peakendurancecoaching.com.au I know it feels like things will never return to normal, but before you know it, races will start up again. You don’t want to be behind the 8-ball and have to work on your base from scratch. A well-planned program will ensure you are ready to get race ready! We can work together to help you reach your goals and be the fittest, happiest runner you can be!
Don’t forget to get on over to apple podcast to rate and review! Thanks for your support.
Stay safe, look after your loved ones and have a great week of training! Remember, we are all in this together!

26 Oct 2020 | John Kelly completes The Grand Round! | 00:44:22
Episode 74 is an interview with John Kelly. John made trail running history on April 3, 2017 by becoming the 15th person to ever complete the Barkley Marathons. The Barkley Marathons in Frozen Head State Park, Tennessee is known to the toughest endurance challenge ever with over 160 kilometres of tough terrain, sheer drops and thick forest. He grew up exploring the dense mountains and forests around his family’s rural home in Morgan County, TN, constantly trying to keep up with his older brother and cousins. John ran during high school where he describes himself as a good, not great runner. During college and grad school he took a full decade off from the sport. After grad school he rediscovered his love of the mountains hiking the John Muir Trail with his wife Jessi. john ended up running the 2013 Marine Corps Marathon, calling it an absolute disaster. He decided he could do better, so he got himself a Boston qualifier. As it was some time before he could actually run Boston, he decided to give ultras a go, and then also tried triathlons because he loved cycling too. It was this background in a variety of disciplines that led to John creating the Grand round, which involved running the three most difficult rounds in the UK (The Bob Graham, Paddy Buckley and Charlie Ramsay) and cycling between them.
Can I ask you a favour; would you be able to go on over to Apple podcasts to rate, review and subscribe to the podcast? Doing this helps the podcast grow, which is greatly appreciated. Jen1977 gave five stars and said, "I love listening to Isobel whilst out running my local trails, her podcasts have taught me so much. Keep up the great work chick!” Thanks so much Jen, that is really lovely.

31 May 2023 | Reframing 'failure' in training and racing. | 00:43:15
The ability to reframe failure is your ability to bounce back from a difficult or not planned for situation that could be deemed as a failure. Reframing means to
look at something in a different way.
Now I’m not talking about seeing failure as a success per se, this is not about ‘participation medals’ and ‘everyone’s a winner’ mentality. I’m talking about
looking for the positives in a situation that you initially feel is a failure.
Examples would be: not hitting your time or pace target in a race or training run, getting injured, not getting into the race
you had your heart set on. To be honest the list is potentially endless and I have experienced them all. The thing to remember is these feelings don’t last
forever and you can come back from this and become a better runner and perhaps person in the process.
