Bedtime. An integral part to the end of our day and a time to forget about our worries. A time to drift off to a place of peace, comfort and relaxation. For some, however, this restful time is interrupted by a horrifying visitation from an entity cloaked in shadow. Never knowing how or when it will make itself known, these eyewitnesses lie in wait. Too afraid to open their eyes and too hesitant to close them.

Having been told their whole lives that the boogeyman doesn’t exist; they suffer in silence, unable to share their encounters with family or friends. Fearful of what others might think or say. The awful truth is that this thing looming before them is as real as you and me. Standing in silence, it emits an overwhelming feeling of dread and despair. Wearing what appears to be a long black cloak and wide brimmed hat; these eyewitnesses have come to call this new terror, The Hat Man.

In a scientific publishing house in Paris in 1853, a French bookseller, printer, and inventor by the name of Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville came up with what he called “the imprudent idea of photographing the word”. His idea was to make a machine that would replicate the human ear in order to capture spoken words. Scott called this process “phonautography” the self writing of sound. On March 25th 1857, Scott received the patent for the phonautograph and three years later on April 9th 1860 Scott recorded an unsettling rendition of “Au clair de la lune”. And it wasn’t until almost 20 years later that Thomas Edison invented the phonograph, which allowed Scott’s song to be played for the very first time.

Although it’s a little difficult to listen to, Scott’s recording is a stark reminder of just how far we’ve come over the last 160 years. Never before has it been so easy for us to capture and share audio at a moment’s notice. From complex recording booths to simple handheld audio devices, it seems as though we’re never very far from a microphone. This technology has given paranormal investigators the ability to finally document their experiences in a more meaningful and scientific manner. In fact, it is believed that the very first electronic voice phenomena or EVP was recorded in 1938 using Thomas Edison’s phonograph, just 7 years after Thomas Edison had died.

Now just over 80 years later, hundreds of thousands of researchers as well as unknowing bystanders alike have recorded what many believe to be undeniable evidence of something real, but unexplainable. From spirit voices to disembodied footsteps, the quality, and quantity of the phenomena being recorded is quite literally out of this world. Tonight, however, we’re going to focus on some of the audio recordings that seem to point to a more physical yet unknown source. From our local state parks and national forests to our very own backyards, tonight’s episode takes a listen to some of the strangest audio captured in the woods.

Lake Michigan has always been known for its unpredictable weather and mysterious ship wrecks, but it wasn’t until 1891 that people in and around the region really began taking notice of the bizarre occurrences that were taking place on the great lake. Although strange things were being witnessed throughout Lake Michigan, the locals began to notice that it seemed as though a majority of the incidents were taking place within a specific area on the lake. Over the years, the theory that the lake had a hot spot where more activity occurred continued to grow and today it’s now known as the Lake Michigan Triangle.

Stretching East from Manitowoc, Wisconsin to Ludington, Michigan and South to Benton Harbor, Michigan, this vast expanse of water is responsible for some of the most inexplicable phenomena throughout the country. But in order to fully understand the unsettling history of this ancient lake, we need to start back at the beginning where most people believe the legend of the Lake Michigan Triangle began.

It’s true that Alaska is a wonderland for adventurers and vacationers alike. In fact, if there was ever a place that could be as awe-inspiring as it is mysterious, I have little doubt that Alaska would be at the top of my list.

In many ways, Alaska symbolizes the pinnacle of what Mother Nature has to offer and yet for some, the vastness of the Last Frontier is an unsettling reminder of the bizarre secrets that lie hidden deep within its forests and mountains. Many people have come to believe that its majestic landscape disguises a terrifying truth that some of its residents claim to have experienced firsthand.

While these experiences aren’t typical of standard animal attacks or missing person reports, they do seem to point to a much more vicious yet unknown creature that is believed to abduct and in some cases brutally murder and dismember its prey.

These cases have compounded over the decades, but there’s a particular string of events that are so unique, so well documented and so horrifying that they deserve a place amongst the strangest unexplained incidents to ever occur. Incidents that most believers say were caused by none other than Hairy Man of Port Chatham, Alaska.

In episode seven, we took a brief look at a creature known as the Pukwudgie, loosely translated as “little wild man of the woods that vanishes”. But these little people of the forest are not the only mysterious creatures that are said to inhabit the unknown parts of our world. In our last episode, we began a strange and bewildering journey into the world of Fae Folk. We explored the history of the mysterious little people of Detroit known as the Nain Rouge, and we shared some eyewitness accounts involving bizarre rituals with small humanoids, flying fairies, an evil gnome-like creature and a pair of shadow steeling wee folk.

On today’s show, we’ll be taking a look at more eyewitness encounters regarding creatures that fall under the heading of The Fae. Although you won’t find it on most top ten lists of haunted places throughout the United States, this National Recreation Area plays host to a myriad of unexplained phenomena and downright chilling paranormal activity. So much so that some of its visitors report fleeing in terror during the middle of the night, vowing never to return.

Episode 76 of the Paranormal Mysteries Podcast:

In 2019, the United States Navy finally admitted that UFOs not only exist, but that they have been tracking and studying them for years and they are now referring to them as UAPs; also known as Unidentified Aerial Phenomena. While this admission came as no surprise to many of us, it was validation for thousands of people across the country who had been previously told by authorities that UFOs aren’t real.

But for many people around the world, the painfully slow pace at which many governments divulge declassified information is too little too late and the stories in today’s episode are in my opinion, striking examples of blatant cover ups involving some very bizarre incidents. Some of which are becoming more well known because of information that has surfaced within the last couple of decades, which leads me to our first story known most prominently as the Westall UFO Incident.

Episode 82 of the Paranormal Mysteries Podcast:

Witches, curses, ghosts, bizarre entities, unexplained lights and horrifying creatures are just a few of the phenomena that are said to inhabit the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area in western Kentucky and northwest Tennessee. And many would agree that the most famous of these alleged inhabitants would have to be the Beast of LBL, which is typically described as a large bipedal wolf-like animal similar to a werewolf or Dogman.

Today, I’m going to continue where I left off in episode 74 with a chilling tale that allegedly occurred within the boundaries of the Land Between the Lakes. A tale that some say is proof that evil does indeed dwell on this bizarre bit of land.

Episode 86 of the Paranormal Mysteries Podcast:

On May 24th 2017 I posted an episode that I called “Black Eyed Children: Origins & Encounters With The Creepy Kids. In that episode, I presented a brief introduction to the subject and I touched on one of the first more well known encounters as well as a couple of others that I found interesting at the time. The episode was meant to be a prelude of sorts and now over three years and many encounters later, it would seem that the number, regularity and strangeness of reports of this phenomenon have steadily increased.

In fact many of these chilling tales are no longer relegated to just black-eyed kids, but now seem to encompass a much broader age range of these dark-eyed entities. And although we have more eye witness encounters with these things, we still know very little about what they are, where they come from or what they want. There are times while researching the paranormal that I say to myself, “okay, now I’ve heard it all”. Perhaps it’s because I believe that we’ve exhausted all probable theories regarding a particular subject, or maybe it’s because I think that the eyewitness encounters couldn’t get any more amazing or extraordinary than the ones that I’ve previously heard. But as many times as I’ve thought these very things myself, the world of the paranormal consistently and overwhelmingly proves me wrong. And today is one of those days.

As you know, I cover a very broad range of phenomena here on the show, and I’m not afraid to cover topics or aspects of a topic that may not be popular with “mainstream enthusiasts”. I try to focus on the personal stories and not on whether or not their experience falls in line with what we “think” we know, and today’s show is a perfect example of this.

Last week, I came across an interview that was posted on August 1st of this year on a YouTube channel called Bigfoot Odyssey. The interview was conducted by Kerry and Daniela of Bigfoot Odyssey and the interviewee was a gentleman by the name of Mark Barton. Mark is a Bigfoot researcher on a YouTube channel called “The Trail to Bigfoot”. I found this interview interesting for several reasons, and therefore I wanted to share it with you. I reached out to Kerry at Bigfoot Odyssey, and he has graciously allowed me to share the interview audio on today’s show.

Episode 96 of the Paranormal Mysteries Podcast:

The topic of today’s show focuses on a phenomenon known as channeling which is a form of Mediumship in which a person allows themselves to be taken over by or to receive messages from another personality while in a dissociated state of consciousness or trance. Whereas mediumship is a term most often applied to communication with the dead, channeling is used for interaction with various nonphysical beings, including Angels, nature spirits, totem or guardian spirits, deities, demons, higher intelligences, and extraterrestrials, as well as spirits of the dead.

Channeling, like mediumship, has ancient roots. The ancient Egyptians used states of mystical trance to communicate with the gods. In ancient China, shaman-like people used trance states to interact with the spirit world. Channeling is recorded in the history of early India, and in ancient Greece it was used for oracular prophecy. Many spiritual leaders have received their guidance through channeling; examples are the prophets of the Old Testament and Muhammad, who received the teachings of the Koran while in trances and in DREAMS.

In the United States, channeling came into vogue in the 1970s when the channeled writings of the entity Seth, speaking through Jane Roberts, became best-selling books. Similar to the rush of popular interest in Spiritualist mediumship that occurred in the 19th century, channelers went into business, some charging exorbitant fees for sittings. Fad interest was over by the end of the 1980s, although the more prominent “channels,” as some individuals prefer to be called, retained their followings.

In many respects, today’s topic is a perfect example of this phenomenon, but it would seem that the strange story of Pearl Curran and Patience Worth would bring forward just as many skeptics as it would believers. So much so, that even today it’s regarded as one of the most interesting and controversial cases of channeling in history, but I’ll let you be the judge.
