I've come to know Joe through Facebook groups of all places! Initially Irish Golf Noticeboard he co-founded and now Irish Golf Events group he runs himself. Joe is a stalwart of the amateur side of Irish Golf and has been part of teams involving Stephen Grant, Padraig Harrington, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry to name a few. He is still an elite golfer in his own right and now running his own Irish Tour and Event business. Alex Maguire was just 18 when he jetted off to the USA in the summer of 2019 to begin an exciting new life on a golf scholarship at Florida Atlantic University. Two summers later and he's back on Irish soil and seeking to dominate the amateur scene.

Having spoken to Amy Condon on numerous occasions in putting together this episode, I think she quite possibly is the most personable person I have had on the show. Driven, Focused, Goal orientated, has a plan but most of all is loads of Fun. It was great to hear of why she embarked on her PGA journey and her plans once achieved. Whilst I poke fun at a possible Lahinch vs Portmarnock Golf Club rivalry, PGC is one of the greatest clubs and courses on this island of ours. It was superb to have a chat with John "The Lantern" Greene on how he became part of the club coming from Carlow, winning the South of Ireland at Lahinch and the trojan work Portmarnock are doing in investing and developing in their Junior Section.

This week we speak with Bert McKay, General Manger at Castlerock. It’s been one hundred and twenty one years since the formal inauguration of Castlerock. Harry Colt made it the links we play today, albeit more recently refreshed and updated by Martin Hawtree in 2017. A golf course played in the landscape not on the landscape, it is indeed a fine hallmark Colt design. “We don’t do stuffy” is proclaimed in the About Us section of the Dingle Golf Club website. What they are as a community is incredibly proud, which they should be given the insanely good product they have created on the most westerly point for golf on the Wild Atlantic Way. They are indeed, custodians. Custodians of golf, of the Irish language, of Irish culture and craic, actually custodians of the game and are growing it insanely quickly in this pocket of Ireland known as the Dingle peninsula. Cormac Flannery is indeed at the the head of that experience, of that custodianship, whether he admits it or not. He is the spearhead giving the golfing community a their direction in any case.

The course takes in breath-taking scenery on the Dingle Peninsula along the Wild Atlantic Way. Originally designed by Eddie Hackett, finished off by the great Christy O’Connor Jnr off the original Hackett drawings. You have to come play here.

LIV Golf is not about growing the game. It is not about those golfers doing best for their families. It is not about golf at all. It’s a PR crusade for a country looking to avert the eyes of the world from their home atrocities.

Matthew McClean is if anything, a chilled out individual. A chilled out individual playing amateur golf at an incredibly elite level. Having been pipped to the post a couple of times this year, namely at the North of Ireland Championship (by Hugh Foley), Matthew gained sweet revenge at a tournament that wasn’t even on his schedule at the start of the year! Whilst working most of the year and representing his golf club, province and country around the world playing golf on various teams, Matthew McClean won the US Mid-Am Championship at Erin Hills last month and I caught up with him just after he landed, literally!

A motorcycle accident took his leg, but Gareth McNeilly professes “I was lucky” given his on-bike decision to “Abandon Ship” and his friends quick first aid thinking led to saving his life that day. Pre accident he was a keen golfer, but having re-discovered golf post accident has opened up a different world for Gareth, now Team Captain for the victory is EDGA Golf Ireland Team who romped to the victory at this summers European Championships and he is keen to share the golfing world and bring more people with disabilities into the sport.

After a golfing holiday to Myrtle Beach, Padraig McGrath visited a number of golf superstores and thought he’d love to open one of his own back home in Ennis. On his journey home after this trip, he turned his business idea into a business plan and eventually into a reality when he opened P&M Golf Superstore the following year on the 14th of March 2004.

The Stack System is a swing-speed trainer which pilots the golfer through a series of swing speed tests and maps out a training plan based on those tests. The Stack System allows this week’s guest, co-founder Sasho MacKenzie, to share his research findings and training wisdom with you, using the same tools, techniques and nuances that he uses to speed train Tour players he has consulted.
