There are few actors out there with such a wide range and ability that allows audiences to see them in so many different lights. The good guy, the bad guy, the wing man, the loner, the neurotic, the strong willed...the list would go on forever if I listed all the options. One person with this quality is the great David Hyde Pierce. David appears in the new horror/drama The Exorcism along side Russell Crowe. And what better way to celebrate an exorcism film by following up the conversation with a dive into the "Pillow Talk" revival, Down With Love.

It was a true honor to speak with the one and only Stephen Fry about his new film, Treasure, as well as the 1992 all-star breakthrough that is Peter's Friends. Stephen is someone who we can safely say everyone on earth is familiar with in one way or another, but he has always held a special place in our hearts; so it was such a thrill to talk about these films and more with him.

You all better have your viewing schedule packed to the brim this week as there are two films you have to make sure you see. The highly anticipated Longlegs is hitting theaters on July 12th. In the first of three interviews we have coming for you from the film, we have the one and only Blair Underwood joining us. Blair talks to us all about joining such a one of a kind film and his role in the 1995 thriller, Just Cause, which stars Blair along side Sean Connery, Laurence Fishburne, Ed Harris, and a 10 year old Scarlett Johansson.

Continuing our coverage of The Ballad of Wallis Island, we have co-writer and star Tom Basden to discuss transforming the short into a feature length film, as well ad his 2022 underseen, Venice at Dawn.

Sans having Raimi himself or Liam Neeson join us to talk about the film, we always said we would wait to have Josh Ruben on as a guest to discuss the film as we know he is not only a superfan of the film himself; but has been campaigning to make a new Darkman, himself. With his new film, A Wounded Fawn, now on Shudder, we took the time to speak with Josh both about this new, trippy venture into the horror world, as well as his love for Darkman. We also couldn't resist taking a bit of time to profess our love for Ruben's Werewolves Within.

There are so many personal films out there from many seasoned filmmakers. Danish writer/director Niels Arden Oplev has made a film that is very close to his heart, and invited audiences in to learn and explore some hard to understand subjects. Rose is both touching and heavy, but always light and airy. Definitely check it out the first second you can. But, while we had Niels with us, we also had to talk about his original adaptation of Stieg Larsson's, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. We discuss what goes into adapting such a lauded work of art and the issues with its not so publicized name change.

Everyone loves a part 2! Right? Welcome back to our discussion about the new film The Adults as this week we have Sophia Lillis joining us to talk about the sibling rivalry between herself, Michael Cera, and Hannah Gross. But this is Overdue Rentals, which means we have another Sophie Lillis film to talk about with her, and this time we have a lovely discussion about Gretel & Hansel for you, dear listener. Family issues all around!

Get ready for one fantastic conversation. Chris Hanada and Tanner Kling of Retrofit films stopped the shop to talk about their Snap original, Breakwater. While they were with us, we also got to talk about the Tom Cruise starring/Cameron Crowe directed, Vanilla Sky. Chris and Tanner who have some inside knowledge of the production as they met while working on Vanilla Sky shine a light on some great details; so strap in!

Our good friend Max Evry joins us to discuss the Joe Dante 80s classic, Explorers. The first film for both Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix; Explorers is a treasure of the time that just oozes nostalgia. It's been released on Blu-Ray for the first time through Shout Factory on May 25th, 2021. Make sure you check it out after the discussion.

It's once again an tremendous honor to be joined by someone as special as the one and only, Jean Reno. Jean's new film, My Penguin Friend, is out this Friday, August 9th. While it was a pleasure to discuss this adaptation of the hit true story that took social media by storm, this also gave us the chance to talk to Jean about a classic Overdue Rental; 1998's, Ronin.

We speak with so many generous and perfectly nice people on a daily basis. But, there is no one more kind, giving, and lovely than the legend himself, Mr. Paul Guilfoyle. Maybe you don't know him by name, but you certainly know the man's work. His new film, Any Day Now is currently in select theaters and he is absolutely brilliant in the film. But, of course, we are also talking about his Overdue Rental, the criminally under rates 1990 dramedy, Cadillac Man.

We're late this week, we know! We apologize, things are a little crazy right now, but we didn't want to let you all down. This week we have New York Times best selling author Daniel Kraus with us to talk about his new book, Pay the Piper. This is Daniel's second co-authored project with the one and only George Romero as Daniel has finished two manuscripts George started before his passing. Along with some talk about Pay the Piper and finishing the works of a legend like Romero, we are also talking about the 2020 Adam Egypt Mortimer film, Archenemy.

Our good friend, colleague, film maker, and co-host of The Film Blerds, Jeff Stewart stopped by at the beginning of December to talk film with us Overdue Rental boys. While we talk a little bit about end of the year movies, we are also talking about Jeff's Overdue Rental choice, the 1986 buddy comedy, Running Scared.

In the continuation of our coverage of the new film, Nickel Boys, we have Daveed Diggs join us to talk his experience working with RaMell Ross and company. We also are talking about his 2018 film, Blindspotting. There is a lot to get into here, so less typing from us so you can go listen to it now.

As you know, here on Overdue Rentals we want to shed light back on films that were once talked about ad nauseum, but now don't seem to get the same attention they once had. Starship Troopers by our own admission is a film that still gets a lot of attention, but as it has no started being re-evaluated over the last few years, we thought there was no better time to discuss the film with its star, Casper Van Dien. Casper currently is starring in Daughter which is now available to watch on Amazon Prime. We took the time to discuss his new, sinister, roll as well as recap the 1997 sci-fi monster, Starship Troopers.

We also are discussing what is arguable the film that put him on the map, 2007's Death at a Funeral, as well as it's 2010 remake. It was a sheer pleasure to speak with the man behind today's most effective and honest films of modern times, the stop motion expert, Adam Elliot. Adam's new film, Memoir of a Snail is in theater now, and much like his other full length feature, Mary and Max, it should not be missed.

Tony Todd, the legend himself is with us to talk about his newest film, Stoker Hills, as well as the Tom Savini helmed remake of Night of the Living Dead. We also talk some football, cats, and vide games. It should be noted that this discussion took place right after the divisional round of playoffs, hence why we are talking about football games from a few weeks ago. There is also some very quick audio issues in the middle of Tony's discussion, but it clears up quickly. 

It's election season! The voter turn outs are starting to roll in, so let's talk about Primary Colors! The Awards Radar's Joey Magidson joined us to talk about the film based on a book, which was based on the fictionalized events of the Bill Clinton presidential primary races. Now, we record this back at the end of August though, so some small items we say, are already a little dated!

Surprise! Mike is traveling today, so it's just me here, but I get to talk with Lauren Hadaway about her brilliant directorial debut, The Novice. The film stars Isabelle Furhman as a college freshman who joins her college rowing team and pushes her boundaries as she strives to be the best. See this film, immediately! As well as any other films we may end up talking about.

Writer Simon Barrett joins us to discuss his directorial debut, Seance. We also take the time to talk about Mike's Overdue Rental choice, The Guest. The fun doesn't stop there though, as we get some insight into some of Simon's upcoming projects, including his sequel to Face/Off. Seance is in theaters and on demand starting May 21st.

Barbarian is a new horror/thriller from Zach Cregger of The Whitest Kids You Know. We were lucky enough to have the other Zach associated with the film, Zach Kuperstein with us to discuss his work as the films director of photography. Zach also discussed the work he did on the absolutely gorgeous; The Eyes of My Mother. If you haven't seen The Eyes of My Mother, make sure you get that taken care of as soon as you can. And don't forget to purchase your tickets for Barbarian which comes to theaters on Sept. 9th.

The name Willie Pep might not spark a memory for many of you, but if you are a boxing fan and you don't know Willie, the you need to check out The Featherweight. The new film starring James Madio as Pep is starting its run in cinemas and you shouldn't miss it. While we had Madio with us to talk about the film, we also had to talk about his role in 1992's Hero. And of course, we had to see if that story about Dustin Hoffman plucking him from the set of Hook to play his son in Hero is true.

You've probably seen it already or you know so many people who told you it is a must see...well, we're here to tell you the same. Even if you've seen Jacob's Ladder in the past, you have to watch it again. We are joined by film maker Victoria Negri to dive back into this 1990 classic that even when appreciated, needs more attention.

We get deep and insightful with our dear friend and colleague Chiara Spagnoli Gabardi about the 1998 Jim Carrey feature, The Truman Show. Close to 25 years later and this film is just as important as the day it came out. Join us as we talk reality TV, free will, and ancient Greek philosophy. Oh yeah, and Jim Carrey.

It is a special one time only extravaganza! We have taken two interviews for Guns of Redemption and smashed them into one big episode. Casper Van Dien returns, this time to talk about Sleepy Hollow. Followed by Jeff Fahey talking about The Lawnmower Man!

Justin Kurzel took some time to speak with your boys about his new film, Nitram, which looks at the events of one of Australia's most infamous shootings. We balanced the mood with some talk about his 2015 adaptation of MacBeth as well, which starred Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. Make sure you see both films if you haven't yet.

The hits just keep on coming. This week we were lucky enough to have the amazing Melanie Lynskey in the store to talk about her new film, Lady of the Manor and the 2011 Tom McCarthy written and directed, Win Win. Since we had Melanie on hand, we of course couldn't help but ask a few questions about Heavenly Creatures, but since we already have a full episode about the film...we kept it short. 

We unfortunately had a a few tech issues at the start of the interview, but it all worked out in the end.

It Ends With Us is taking the box office by storm. We were lucky enough to have the film's producer, Alex Saks join us to talk about the process of getting such a film off the ground. We also took time to talk about one of her first gigs as a producer on the criminally underseen, Thoroughbreds.

There has been a lot of movement in recent years with younger generations getting into classic spoof films. The Zucker, Abrams, Zucker and family classics from Airplane, to The Naked Gun, to Hot Shots! are making waves with new audiences. But one great spoof that was pretty much lambasted by critics on its release still remains under the radar for older and newer spoof fans. The Carl Reiner directed Fatal Instinct starred the one and only Armand Assante, who wasn't really know for comedy at the time. Armand joined us to talk about his new film, Don Q, as well as this forgotten masterpiece of comedy cinema.

Who needs a good laugh? Well, you're lucky as we have comedian Huge Davies joining us for this episode. Huge's 2019 Edinburgh nominated show The Carpark will be available to stream starting June 20th on the 800 Pound Gorilla platform. Huge joined us to talk all about his approach to performing, building his special keyboard presentation system, and of course, his Overdue Rental choice; Alita: Battle Angel. This week on Overdue Rentals, we decided to leverage the more serious nature of our guests tense new film, by talking about the much more fun natured adaptation he starred in; for a little bit of levity. As of course, we are joined by Sharlto Copley who is starring as the Unabomber Ted Kaczynski in the new film Ted K that releases February 18th, 2022. We also delve into his turn as Howling Mad Murdock in Joe Carnahan's big screen version of, The A-Team. Of course, District 9 and some other fun subjects crop up. What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than listening to a conversation about some unhinged individual, right!?

This week, we're talking about the late 1900s classic from writer/director Tom Tykwer, Run Lola Run. Our good friend, Alec Kubas-Meyer of The Week I Review is with us to discuss this stylistic German film that took the world by storm upon its release. In the long span of film history there have always been releases that were deemed controversial upon their release. Catherine Hardwicke's directorial debut, Thirteen, was definitely one of those films that was met with a lot of backlash thinking it was glamourizing aspects of teenage life that it certainly wasn't. You couldn't turn a corner at the time of its release without hearing the buzz around the movie, whether is was for or against it. We had the opportunity to revisit the film with Catherine whilst also talking about her new comedy, Mafia Mamma, which stars Toni Collette and Monica Bellucci. Mafia Mamma is out in theaters now starting Friday, April 14th.

It is time to buckle up! Joining us this week is Tim Blake Nelson who absolutely kills it in his new film, Old Henry, which is out in theaters Friday Oct. 8th. But, we're also here to talk about the controversial, shocking, and diverse Gaspar Noe film, Irreversible. If you're unaware of what happens in Irreversible, here is your trigger warning for talk about violence and sexual assault. 

Dennis Haysbert is someone everyone is familiar with, even if they don't know it. Maybe you know him as Pedro Cerrano from Major League. Maybe you're a 24 fan and know him as President David Palmer. Or maybe you just know him as The Allstate insurance man. The fact of the matter is, the man has had one hell of a storied career and is so much more than the roles people may associate him with. He can currently be seen as Clarence C. Baker in the Hulu/Disney+ picture, Flamin' Hot. The film chronicles the man behind the special Frito/Lay snack and can be seen by all starting this Friday, June 9th. While we had Dennis with us to talk about the movie, we also took the chance to talk to him about the indie neo-noir he starred in from 1993, Suture. Strap in for a good one folks!

If you've ever woken up in the middle of the night and wondered if you transformed into a dog in the middle of the night and caused havoc around your neighborhood; you're not alone. Though, as Amy Adams experiences in her new film, Nightbitch, the reality of her experiences come from more of a deep place of lost identity compared to just some fun and games. We were thrilled to have the film's director, Marielle Heller, join us to talk about the film as well as her much loved, but still slightly underseen, Can You Ever Forgive Me?

Happy November! Let's kick off the month right with the one and only Neil Burger. His new film, The Marsh King's Daughter is out this Friday, November 3rd. But we are also talking about this week's Overdue Rental, his 2011 sleeper hit, Limitless. The Bradley Cooper/Robert DeNiro thriller was such a smash hit when it hit theaters and though it spawned a TV show of the same name, not enough people are talking about the film nowadays. Let's fix that!

To close out our coverage of Nickel Boys, we have the wonderful Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor with us. Now, we know there is some serious discussions to have involving Nickel Boys, but that doesn't mean we don't have time to be silly and also talk about the wonderful, Undercover Brother. For the past 10 years, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have been building one of the most interesting and detailed cinematic universes to ever be unleashed on an unknowing public. The innovative independent film makers join us on Overdue Rentals to talk about their latest film, Something in the Dirt, which first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year and is now available to rent or buy. We're also talking about their 2017 film, The Endless, which in many ways connects to Something in the Dirt, as well as their first feature, the 2012 sleeper hit, Resolution. And one of the top choices we wanted to talk to him about was the 1991 John Candy starring, Delirious. Well, the day has finally come. Dylan joins us to talk about his new film, LaRoy, Texas; which is out in theaters and OnDemand this Friday, April 12th. But as mentioned already, we then get to talk to him about working with John Candy, Raymond Burr, Emma Samms, Mariel Hemmingway (just to name a few) and why he has black bars on 2 AND 7.

Yes, you read that right! The one and only Wes Studi joins us to talk about his new film, A Love Song, which he stars in with Dale Dickey. While we had Mr. Studi on hand to speak with us, we also made sure to inquire about this week's Overdue Rental, the 1992 instant classic; The Last of the Mohicans. The film will be celebrating its 30th anniversary this September, so what better time to dive into the film with one of its stars. Though the free living Outer Worlds and the titular Alphaville of the 1965 Jean-Luc Goddard classic we are talking about this week seemingly exists on same physical planes as each other, it seems ultra fitting that this week's guest, comedian Alasdair Beckett-King, is with us to discuss his new tour; The Interdimensional ABK. Alasdair has some time to come and visit us to talk about the new tour, his YouTube shorts, Panel Shows, all before we dove right into the mysterious, Alphaville. It's podcast cross pollination time! Our friend and co-host of the Geek History Lesson podcast, Ashley Victoria Robinson joins us to talk about the Academy Award winning, yet still Overdue Rental, Argo. This best picture winner does still have some interesting controversies around it, and it feels strange that it dropped so far out of public consciousness; we just had to talk about it. We were privileged to have some time to talk with the legend himself, Tim Roth, about his new film Sundown as well as the Overdue Rental choice for the week, Rob Roy. In reality, if we could have had hours to talk with Mr. Roth, we'd probably still only have time to cover two of the numerous films we'd truly love to cover with him. But for now, join us as we learn what went behind creating the character of Neil for Sundown, the fears Tim had he might be fired from what became a highly nominated and awarded role in Rob Roy, as well as the special Quentin Tarantino text chain he's part of.  

Happy October everyone! What better way to kick off Halloween month than a nice chat with David Howard Thornton who portrays the twisted killer Art the Clown in Terrifier and its new sequel, Terrifier 2. Much to our delight, when it came time to talk about his Overdue Rental choice, David decided to go a bit further away from the Terrifier camp and chose to discuss Who Framed Roger Rabbit. How come there is never a question mark in the title of Who Framed Roger Rabbit? We should have looked into that!

It was a pure joy to have television star and writer of Good Luck to You, Leo Grande with us to talk about her film which is now available to watch on Hulu. Katy also took some time to speak about the 1988 classic comedy, A Fish Called Wanda with us. Join in for the fun and let us know what you thought/think about both films!

There was a lot of films that inspired the brothers in creating their debut feature length comedy, but one film stands above them all, the 1991 Bill Murray/Richard Dreyfuss comedy, What About Bob? Dane is a one of kind performer and we were blessed to have him join us to talk about his comedy as well as his Overdue Rental choice, 1994's, The Crow. This Friday see the release of The Adults, the new film starring Michael Cera, Sophia Lillis, and Hannah Gross as a group of siblings who are forced to come to terms with some of their issues they never got past from their youth. We caught the film this past June when the film was shown at the Tribeca Film Festival. We had the pleasure of talking to both Michal and Sophia about the film. Freddy Fazbear's is finally about finally be open for adoring fans to revel in the live action production of the popular jump scare video game. We are joined by the man who brought the visuals of the robotic over-run child's pizzeria, cinematographer Lyn Moncrief. Lyn chats about everything that went into brining the game to life as well as his Overdue Rental choice, the 2000 Janusz Kamiński helmed, Lost Souls, starring Winona Ryder.

You may not see George Huang's name officially credited for as many projects he has his hands in. And while his new film, Weekend in Taipei is a slice of East Asian action pleasure, George's first film was a slice of life about the trials and tribulations of working in Hollywood. Swimming With Sharks is a sharp witted, comically dark tale from the early 90s that spoke volumes about the industry then, but probably echoes heavier today. It was a pleasure talking to George about these two films as well as all the little extra morsels he sent our way.

Still stuffing your face with leftovers? Then what better time to listen to our wonderful chat with Lee Child. Many of you will know Lee Child as the man who writes the Jack Reacher series of novels, but he's also recently acted as the executive producer on the new documentary, Life and Life, which tells the story of Reggie Austin and his life in and our of the prison system at San Quentin. While we had Lee in the shop, we also had to take the time to discuss the Tom Cruise starring series of Jack Reacher films, as well as some of the early options for who could have also played this historic character. 

2022 has been a great year for films so far, and Riley Stearns the man behind 2019's The Art of Self-Defense is responsible for adding on to the already growing list of fantastic 2022 films with his newest effort, Dual. The film stars Karen Gillan as a woman who must fight a clone of herself to the death. It's a must see, as is The Art of Self-Defense if you haven't seen it yet. I'm still amazed that we have come to the point that maybe one of the greatest films of all time, is an Overdue Rental. This Friday, July 12th sees the release of Guy Pearce's new film, The Convert in theaters and On Demand. And while Guy was with us to talk about his new film with famed director Lee Tamahori, we had the opportunity to discuss both the legend that is L.A. Confidential, and the missing sequel we almost got.

If you're like us, you probably have seen a clip run across your social media feeds showing the time a TV show surprised and elderly man finding out the rest of the studio audience around him were the now grown children he helped save during the onset of WWII. That man was Nicholas Winton and the new film One Life is about the struggle Winton went through to save close to 1,000 children from being sent to concentration camps. Actor/musician Johnny Flynn plays Winton in his younger years while he is trying to work out how to immigrate these children into England before it is too late. Johnny joined us to talk about taking on the role, as well as his turn as David Bowie in the 2020 release, Stardust.

This week, we are joined by Jon Amiel; the director of Matthew's favorite film of all time...The Singing Detective (1986). This utter masterpiece penned by the brilliant Dennis Potter, only aired in the US, once! Jon took some time to discuss with us his relationship to the project and Dennis Potter, all the ins-and-outs of creating such a sprawling work of art, and all those special little details that went into the casting and production of a film that too many people still need to see.

This week we are joined by Robert Wuhl, start of the 1992 comedy/drama, Mistress (written and directed by Barry Primus). What a perfect storm of consequences. The legendary film maker Steve James is back with a new documentary, A Compassionate Spy. And the timing couldn't be more perfect as its subject was part of that little thing called The Manhattan Project. You know, you might have been inundated with the subject with it being the main focus of a little movie called Barbie...I mean Oppenheimer! We were lucky enough to have some time to talk with Steve about his new documentary as well as his cornerstone revolutionary doc, Hoop Dreams. Tune in for a great one here! Welcome to episode 1 of or 3 episode special on the new film Nickel Boys. RaMell Ross hits the scene with his first full length feature (non-documentary) with the adaptation of the award winning book of the same name. The film is already getting best picture nods before its official release, including the recent nomination for best drama for the Golden Globes, whilst RaMell was fresh off being award best director by The Gothams and the New York Film Critic's Circle just days before speaking with us. Enjoy our chat about both Nickel Boys and a film that means a lot to RaMell as well as has a history in Nickel Boys; The Defiant Ones.

It's been far too long since we had a feature length film from Jason Eisner. He first hit the scene winning a contest to have a fan shot, fake trailer be part of the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez Grindhouse experience. That fake trailer was Hobo With a Shotgun, which he later turned into a full length feature starring Rutger Hauer in 2011. Now he is back with Kids Vs. Aliens, a full length feature based on the short Slumber Party Alien Abduction, which was his contribution to the V/H/S 2 anthology. We spoke with Jason about both these films and had a blast doing so.
