The first ever Open the United Gate Champions are decided as DGUSA ends their first tripleshot at the ACE Arena in Union City, NJ for United: Finale on 1/30/2011. Before we get into that, we cover the 2010 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards and the Dragon System representatives and touch on a couple news items. 

Then Case and Mike get into United: Finale, a truly bizarre DGUSA show hampered by a terrible arena and weird booking. BxB Hulk vs Akira Tozawa is the stand out on the night that had an utterly baffling Homicide vs Jon Moxley No DQ match and a lot of Moxley and Reby Sky. At the end of the show, we had the World-1 team of Masato Yoshino and PAC face off with the Ronin team of Johnny Gargano and Chuck Taylor.

Closing out the show, we dip back into the timeline to cover the events in the Dragon System leading us up to the end of February with a PAC contra PAC match and two interesting new assistants to Blood Warriors in Japan.

Before Case and Mike get into the show, they take a look around at how the rest of the wrestling world ended 2011, including Don Fujii in the World Tag League 2011, Final Battle 2011, and Chikara’s first iPPV.

Then it’s time to go to New York for Freedom Fight 2011. Johnny Gargano finally gets his Open the Freedom Gate shot at YAMATO, Akira Tozawa and BXB Hulk bring their tag team to face the Ronin team of Chuck Taylor and Rich Swann, and PAC vs Ricochet’s epic feud of 2011 concludes its US leg. None of those main evented this show. Instead an Extreme Warfare match with the D.U.F. going up against AR Fox, Sabu and Jon Davis did. Yeah, we know.

Concluding the show, we look at how Dragon Gate Japan concluded their year, with the huge Gate of Destiny and Final Gate 2011 shows.

Welcome to Those Days: A Michinoku Pro Retrospective!

On this first episode of Those Days, Case (https://twitter.com/_inyourcase) and Mike (https://twitter.com/fujiiheya) lead off the show with the format, why a Michinoku Pro podcast, the Voice Gate schedule for the next few weeks and other notes.

From there, it’s time to talk about the events that led to the launch of Michinoku Pro, the first ever promotion in Japan based outside of Tokyo. Case and Mike discuss the early career of Great Sasuke including his starts in wrestling, the New Japan Training School, frustrations with Universal and his fateful tours of Mexico in 1991 and 1992. From there, Case and Mike set the scene with Atsushi Onita vs Ryuma Go, the status of the Japanese Economy and the first steps towards Universal’s downfall that encouraged Sasuke to found Michinoku Pro. They discuss the “fake start” of 11/27/92 before the official launch show of 3/16/92 in Yahaba, the huge show close angle, and the follow ups the next day in Ninohe on 3/17/92.

Gabe announces both a Stable Shootout and a Breakout Challenge for “Open the Southern Gate.” Dragon Gate is gearing up for their 2011 Sumo Hall show before the earthquake and tsunami of 3/11/2011 hits Japan and changes everything.
