31 Jul 2022Resonance: The Path of Spiritual Mastery - With Ken W. Stone01:31:48

Ken W. Stone, The Soul Archeologist, is a spiritual teacher, messenger, and healer. He is the founder of The Resonance Experiment, and author of the forthcoming book Resonance: The Path of Spiritual Mastery.

God expresses through Ken in a unique way: when people sit with him in transmission, they have a profoundly different experience of the Divine in their body. For example, he has worked with a number of advanced former students of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi who each said, unprompted, following their initial session with him, “that was the deepest spiritual experience of my life.” Moreover, he received testimonials about his work from extraordinary people like Dr. Bruce Lipton, Father Thomas Keating, Derek Rydall, and Reverend Dr. Lorraine Cohen to name a few.

Ken shares his gifts with a spiritually diverse, growing international audience through a variety of virtual and in-person programs, retreats, and one-on-one work.

Questions asked and what we talked about:

- Rumi, the 13th-century Persian Mystic once said that "you are not a drop in the ocean, you are the ocean in a drop." Why is it that we feel separated from it all even though we have the entire universe within us?
-  Why it is rare for mystics to find a road map and structure which takes the reader by the hand and guides them to a direct encounter with God?
- Session with Ken and afterthoughts.
- Can you tell us more about your forthcoming book? Why are you writing it and for whom is it?

Tao can mean the way of ultimate reality, the way of the universe, and the way of human life. The three schools of Taoism, efficient power (philosophical), augmented power (hygiene, and Yoga), and vicarious power (religious). Furthermore, the concepts of wu wei (pure effectiveness)  and ch'i (vital energy), and magic are explained.   Finally, there is a section on the mingling of those three schools where all have the same concern, to maximize the animating te (power). Excerpts from the book by Smith, Huston. The World's Religions, Revised and Updated (PP. 252-254). HarperOne. Kindle-Version.

Covered here in 4  minutes:

Perfecting a life of wu wei. Meanings of wu wei, pure effectiveness, and creative quietude. The way to do is the way to be. The secret lies in seeking out the empty spaces in life and in nature. Chuang Tzu and his story of a cook cutting up an ox are mentioned here. The natural phenomenon that the Taoists saw close to wu wei was water. Water, the way it finds clarity when let alone and still, and the way it moves through obstacles effortlessly.

Chuang Tzu's description of his grand funeral. The notion of the relativity of all values and as its correlative, the identity of all opposites. Chuang Tzu on death. Passages in the Tao Te Ching that read almost like the sermon on the mount. Confucius represents the classical, Lao Tzu the romantic. Confucius roams within society, Lao Tzu wonders beyond.

Excerpts from the book by Smith, Huston. The World's Religions, Revised and Updated (PP. 27-41). HarperOne. Kindle-Version.

Covered here in 9 minutes:

Hinduism's affirmation is you can have what you want. Pleasure, worldly success, ... are not the things the people really want, however. There is the path of desire and the path of renunciation. The people who see nothing to renounce for are the world's real pessimists. There is the answer that is the answer to the birth of Hinduism. What we really want lies at a deeper level, moksha. Infinite being, infinite awareness, infinite bliss are within our reach, in fact, we possess them already, says Hindusim. Atman and Brahman.

In this episode, the subject matter is Bhakti and Karma Yoga. Here is a short excerpt of several covered.

“The ideal form for most people will be one of God’s incarnations, for God can be loved most readily in human form because our hearts are already attuned to loving people. Many Hindus acknowledge Christ as a God-man, while believing that there have been others, such as Rama, Krishna, and the Buddha. Whenever the stability of the world is seriously threatened, God descends to redress the imbalance.”

When goodness grows weak,
When evil increases,
I make myself a body.
In every age I come back
To deliver the holy,
To destroy the sin of the sinner,
To establish the righteous.

In this episode, we continue with the ways of to the goal, with Raja Yoga. Here is a short excerpt of several covered.

“The purpose of raja yoga is to demonstrate the validity of this fourfold estimate of the human self by leading the inquirer to direct personal experience of “the beyond that is within.” Its method is willed introversion, one of the classic implements of creative genius in any line of endeavor, here carried to its logical term. Its intent is to drive the psychic energy of the self to its deepest part to activate the lost continent of the true self.”

05 Dec 2020Brahman And Jiva00:09:52

Excerpts from the book by Smith, Huston. The World’s Religions, Revised and Updated (PP.82-83). HarperOne. Kindle-Version.

Covered here in 9:52 minutes:

In this episode, notions of brahman, jiva (individual soul), karma, and the journey of a being from the very beginning to moksha (liberation) will be the topics. Below is an excerpt of one of many.

“Individual souls, or jivas, enter the world mysteriously; by God’s power we may be sure, but how or for what reason we are unable fully to explain. Like bubbles that form on the bottom of a boiling teakettle, they make their way through the water (universe) until they break free into the limitless atmosphere of illumination (liberation). They begin as the souls of the simplest forms of life, but they do not vanish with the death of their original bodies. In the Hindu view spirit no more depends on the body it inhabits than body depends on the clothes it wears or the house it lives in. When we outgrow a suit or find our house too cramped, we exchange these for roomier ones that offer our bodies freer play.”

Souls do the same.
Worn-out garments
Are shed by the body:
Worn-out bodies
Are shed by the dweller.

06 Dec 2020The Hindu Worldview00:07:24

Excerpts from Smith, Huston. The World's Religions, Revised and Updated (S.85-93). HarperOne. Kindle-Version.

Covered here in 9:52 minutes:

In this episode, we learn about the Hindu worldview, and how it sees all other religions in her context.

"To the question, “What kind of world do we have?” Hinduism answers:

  • A multiple world that includes innumerable galaxies horizontally, innumerable tiers vertically, and innumerable cycles temporally.
  • A moral world in which the law of karma is never suspended.
  • A middling world that will never replace paradise as the spirit’s destination.
  • A world that is maya, deceptively tricky in passing off its multiplicity, materiality, and dualities as ultimate when they are actually provisional.
  • A training ground on which people can develop their highest capacities.
  • A world that is lila, the play of the Divine in its Cosmic Dance—untiring, unending, resistless, yet ultimately beneficent, with a grace born of infinite vitality."

08 Dec 2020The Man Who Woke Up00:07:16

Excerpts from Smith, Huston. The World's Religions, Revised and Updated (PP.105-113). HarperOne. Kindle-Version.

Covered here in 7:16 minutes:

In this episode, I cover the four passing sights, his search, leaving the palace, the forest, Raja Yoga, Hindu philosophy, asceticism, the middle way, the immovable spot, his enlightenment, 45 years of ministry, his death, his simplicity, the constant pressure in his lifetime to make him a god, his confessions about his difficulties to attain enlightenment, and how he made an outcast one of his disciples.

"Buddhism begins with a man. In his later years, when India was afire with his message and kings themselves were bowing before him, people came to him even as they were to come to Jesus asking what he was.1 How many people have provoked this question—not “Who are you?” with respect to name, origin, or ancestry, but “What are you? What order of being do you belong to? What species do you represent?” Not Caesar, certainly. Not Napoleon, or even Socrates. Only two: Jesus and Buddha. When the people carried their puzzlement to the Buddha himself, the answer he gave provided an identity for his entire message.

“Are you a god?” they asked. “No.” “An angel?”
“No.” “A saint?” “No.” “Then what are you?”
Buddha answered, “I am awake.”

11 Dec 2020The Rebel Saint00:08:28

Excerpts from Smith, Huston. The World's Religions, Revised and Updated (PP.114-122). HarperOne. Kindle-Version.

Covered here in 8:28 minutes:

In this episode, I cover the famous parable of the arrow smeared thickly with poison, and how the original Buddhism can be characterized by being empirical, scientific, pragmatic, therapeutic, psychological, egalitarian, and directed to individuals.

"In moving from Buddha the man to Buddhism the religion, it is imperative that the latter be seen against the background of the Hinduism out of which it grew. Unlike Hinduism, which emerged by slow, largely imperceptible spiritual accretion, the religion of the Buddha appeared overnight, fully formed."

01 Feb 2021Self-Love And Why We Self-Sabotage Ourselves - With Jonathan Troen00:45:12

Jonathan Troen, Chief Life Officer.
Jonathan's mission: To help people find the joy inside of themselves.

Jonathan is a Life Mastery Coach, and co-founder of Austin Yoga Tree and the Life Mastery Collective. His latest creation is the Self Love Revolution. Jonathan spent 20+ years in the entertainment industry. He was living the life of his dreams, meeting the biggest stars in the world, except he wasn't happy. He couldn't figure why. He began studying people: how they lived, what motivated them and how they defined success. His studies brought him to one conclusion: Most of us are mean to ourselves, and all we really want is to be loved. He also discovered that when we seek love from outside, it is fleeting. Lasting love comes from inside of us. And since we’re not taught to love ourselves, this creates a problem. Jonathan created the Self Love Revolution specifically to share the methodology he created after 15 years of research and practice. Jonathan's belief: We all deserve success. We all deserve to be loved. And we all deserve to be treated kindly, especially by ourselves.

Bullet Points:

  • How is Mindfulness a part of the Self-Love practice? In a way it is really all of it, there are acceptance meditations, and gratitude mindfulness meditations, and forgiveness meditations... At the end of the day we review the day and we can know what we did and that is an opportunity.
  • How can we let go of or replace those voices that keep telling us you're not good enough and won't amount to anything?  There are the thirteen saboteurs, the perfectionist, the procrastinator, the defender, the victim, blame is one of the saboteurs, the people pleaser, a lot of them work together... Have compassion of that inner judge that is afraid... We also have the inner team, the inner army, the future self, the child self, the intuitve one, the courageous one, the fun one...
  • With regard to the Four Pillars of Self-Love, can you elaborate more? Acceptance, Gratitude, Forgiveness, and Self-Love. Here is where Jonathan shows his brilliance. Do not miss it, lots of takeaways, you can implement on a daily basis and grow...

25 Mar 2021Tired Of Your Ego? The Lazy Person's Way To Perfect Practice - Introduction, by Josef Schinwald00:09:41

Excerpts from my book with the same title. Copyright © 2017 Josef Schinwald, MDiv

Introduction 9:41 Minutes

Have you Ever Wanted to Learn Meditation?

My name is JOSEF SCHINWALD and I can relate. In my early twenties, I traveled the world. I was usually accompanied by books like the Tao Te Ching, the Upanishads, or some new novel, i.e. Herman Hesse’s Prince Siddhartha.

I lived in India, Thailand, Korea, and Japan for many years because I was attracted to these cultures, their philosophies, religious practices, and customs.

Later on, in my early thirties, I got a master's degree in Oriental Philosophy, close to a little town called Rhinebeck, upstate New York, where I lived 5 years near the beautiful Hudson River with my family of 5.

Zen Buddhism was my new target of interest and, in particular, the Zen stories and Koans, while writing my thesis.

Kristin designs programs in Cognitive Behavioral Techniques that strengthen mindset, promoting confident mindful skills for peak results and wellness.

Quote: “Facing adversity with resilience and authenticity to help create solutions to transform behavior and mindset is the key to life-changing growth.” ~ Kristin Durney

Bullet Points:

– What is the connection, the relationship between spirituality and mental health?

There is a connection between spirituality and purpose. Purpose comes in when you believe in something bigger than ourself.  People often ask me how did you find your purpose? I answer it found me.  When we are spiritual it really lets us get rid of that ego.  It opens us to mindfulness, being in the present, empathetic thinking, compassion, forgiveness, in my situation I had to go through forgiveness what I have gone through... in spirituality there is meaning in what we are going through, everything happens for a reason... Everybody has their own type of spirituality, their own type of praying, or meditation, their own type of conversation with their higher being. When I look at spirituality from a mental health perspective, I look at it as a holistic way of seeing the mind, body, soul, and spirit connection.  I call it the puzzle, each one of them affects the other if some part is missing if people have mental health issues and they do not have that holistic view of self when they do not live as an authentic self but rather a limitation self, ... so it's when we let go of the ego and let in the mind, body, soul, and spirit connection, then we put the puzzle together.

The interview went in many interesting directions related to mental health and spirituality, and definitely brought out the best of Kristin's deep understanding of the topic.
