08 Apr 202493- Scandinavia's Open-Air Living Mindset with Linda Åkeson McGurk00:42:53

Linda Åkeson McGurk is the author of two books: There’s No Such Thing as Bad Weather: A Scandinavian Mom’s Secrets for Raising Healthy, Resilient, and Confident Kids and The Open-Air Life: Discover the Nordic Art of Friluftsliv and Embrace Nature Every Day.

Linda is a Swedish American writer who passionately advocates for the Nordic outdoor tradition called friluftsliv. She’s written two books, which I already mentioned, and runs the blog “Rain or Shine Momma” where she shares tips and inspiration for outdoor play everyday, regardless of the weather. And I don’t think these tips are for kids alone. They’re also for the forgotten child inside of all of us who still need free time outside every week.

Her work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, The New York Times, The New York Post, Huffington Post, and Psychology Today, and more.

29 Mar 202237- Hidden Star Map at Hoover Dam with Patti Aaron00:27:47

Patti Aaron chats with me about a gorgeous star map hidden in plain sight at Hoover Dam. Hoover Dam is an extraordinary engineering work that controls the Colorado River. Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the dam in 1936. The dedication site now has a star map and other remarkable symbols that are truly worth the visit.

Patti is the Public Affairs Officer for the Bureau of Reclamation’s Lower Colorado Basin Region. This region covers southern Nevada, southern California, and Arizona. She started out as a restoration biologist before transitioning to her work on Western water policy and public affairs programs in Washington, D.C. She returned to the region in 2018 to take on her current role with the Bureau of Reclamation.
