12 Apr 2021 | 12: How Not To Die. Yellowstone Edition | 00:57:28
Grab your notebooks and sharpen those pencils, it’s time to take notes on how to not die in Yellowstone. Designated as the world’s first national park, Yellowstone is unique in so many ways. From its distinct thermal features, various species of iconic wildlife and picturesque landscapes this park draws in millions of visitors annually. 149 years of people flooding the gates, roadways and trails has left Yellowstone with its fair share of tragedy. So much in fact, that hundreds of stories have filled thousands of pages in our history books. As with every historical event, there is always a lesson to be found. Usually, a lesson of what not to do. Sadly, humans have a way of ignoring those messages and are doomed to repeat history again and again. Come along as Danielle and Cassie discuss disastrous tales of death in Yellowstone, and if you listen closely and are open to learning something new, you may just survive your next visit.

14 Jun 2021 | 21: Little Islands. The Dark History of America’s National Parks | 00:52:51
To celebrate National Indigenous History Month, we take a step back in history as Danielle flips back the pages of time and brings us to a dark chapter in US history. National Parks, some of our favorite places in the world, were once home to thousands of Native Peoples. Today we are familiar with why National Parks were created – to protect land and resources from development, and "for the benefit and enjoyment of the people", but do we really know how they were created? The lands we benefit from and enjoy today came at the expense of others, others who lived and worshiped on those same lands for millennia. Lands that were stolen.

02 Aug 2021 | 28: A Broken Neck and Endless Crevasses - Surviving Denali National Park | 00:57:33
This week we are heading deep into Denali National Park to summit Mount Foraker, the third tallest summit in the United States. Bring your ice picks and crampons because we are going to be climbing for this one.
When Colby Coombs, Tom Walter, and Ritt Kellog head out on a mountaineering expedition together the weather created a huge obstacle. With inches of snow falling everyday, huge crevasses, and avalanche conditions, this was no easy trek. When an avalanche hits, trajedy stikes and leaves one climber with a broken neck. Making it back alive is going to be nearly impossible. Based from the book and true story: In the Zone: Epic Survival Stories from the Mountaineering World by Peter Potterfield We love our National Parks and we know you do too but when you're out there, remember to enjoy the view but watch your back. 09 Aug 2021 | 29: Death By Lion. Tsavo National Park | 01:16:20
Man eaters. Two words that send shivers down your spine, that spark a deep, primal fear. Words that elicit dread, make your eyes widen, heart pump and legs tingle. Come along with us as we spend this week in Africa discussing the famous Tsavo man eating lions – with a twist. The grisly tale of what happened here in 1898 is undoubtedly among the most notorious tragedies in Kenya, but what can we learn from it? What drives lions to hunt humans, and will they ever stop?

Join us this week as we head to one of the most beautiful places in all of Canada, Banff National Park. In the 1800's settlers realized that with the beauty of this area, money and tourism was a huge opportunity. They decided to build a beautiful hotel in the heart of Banff National Park. What they weren't expecting when it was built, was all the spirits that would never leave and the mystery that lives in room 873.

23 Aug 2021 | 31: Swallowed by the Jungle. Corcovado National Park. | 01:22:56
This week we are abroad... again! With so many National Parks around the world, we can’t help but venture to far off lands. Someone else who had that urge, was Cody Roman Dial. The son of a National Geographic explorer and field biologist, Cody (who preferred to go by his middle name, Roman) followed right in his father’s footsteps. His own travels brought him all over the world, on extraordinary adventures most of us could only dream of. His final adventure brought him to Costa Rica, where he walked into the jungle for the last time. Come along with us as we learn about Roman’s life, disappearance, and the lengths his family went to find out what happened to their son.

30 Aug 2021 | 32: A Desolate Prison. Dry Tortugas National Park | 00:43:52
Join us this week as we head to Dry Tortugas National Park, but before we can go there we need to take a deep dive into some U.S history. Were going all the way back to the 1860's into the Civil War and following along with John Wilkes Booth as he assassinates Abraham Lincoln. Brush up on your horseback riding skills because we are going to be joining him as he flees on horseback into rural Virginia.
John Wilkes Booth wasn't alone though. He had accomplices and they are going to have to pay the price for conspiring with him. When a friend Dr. Samuel Mudd gets convicted after helping John when he is injured fleeing, he is sent to the most desolate prison in the United States. Fort Jefferson in Dry Tortugas. The conditions here are horrid and being imprisoned in a place surrounded by ocean, there is no escape.... Or is there?

06 Sep 2021 | 33: Presumed Dead. Kings Canyon National Park. | 01:09:36
Have you ever wondered what it was like to witness your own death? Your friends, siblings, parents – even your wife – have moved on. Accepted you as dead. There may have not been a body – but you went missing, deep in the Sierra Nevadas. But what if you survived? After weeks on end, alone and on the brink of starvation – you make it, returning home as a hero. Only to find the world you left behind is much different. Then, the same arms that welcomed you home as a hero push you away, and question your entire story. This nightmare was very real for Lieutenant David Steeves, who went missing in Kings Canyon National Park, returned from the grave and had his miraculous story of survival doubted – for the rest of his life.

Bring all of your hiking gear, plenty of water, and a ghost meter. We are kicking off the season by traveling all over the country to different National Parks and hiking along their most haunted trails. Wear you best hiking shoes as we head onto the trails of Rocky Mountain NP where spirits and deadly legends reside. Feel the lake shore breeze in your hair as we travel in the same footsteps as Diana of the Dunes, a feminist and conservationist, that never left the place she fought to protect. Come with us as we head down a trail in the Grand Canyon with no water sources, 1000 foot cliff drops and over 100 ghosts that walk the area. 11 Oct 2021 | 38: The Woman, The Myth, The Legend. Six Rivers National Forest. | 01:11:50
When someone mentions “Bigfoot”, a mental image pops into your mind, and we can take a pretty good guess on which one it is. A large, dark ape walking on two legs, head turned and arms swinging mid stride. You think of this particular snapshot because it’s everywhere. This iconic image is donned on apparel, signs, magazine covers and more. But do you know where it came from?
This week we travel to northern California and into Six Rivers National Forest to learn how this immortalized image was captured, what happened in the aftermath, and how it changed the world of cryptozoology. Listen along as we debate the likelihood of this infamous creature existing, or not. Is it hiding out in the wildest corners of the world? Or does it exist only in the imagination of believers? We will give you the information from both sides of the Bigfoot fence, but it’s up to you to decide … do you believe?

08 Nov 2021 | 43: Reclaiming The Rock. Golden Gate National Recreation Area. | 00:54:30
Alcatraz Island is synonymous with prison. Almost every book, TV show and movie portrays this rocky island in San Francisco Bay as a place where big name gangsters like Al Capone or Alvin Karpis were locked away. But what you may not know is that this same location renowned for violence and incarceration also served as a beacon of peace and symbol of regaining freedom. After hundreds of years of people avoiding it and risking bullets in their backs to escape it, there was time that people risked it all to gain access to the island, and who repeatedly returned despite being forcibly removed. This week we welcome Native Heritage Month by learning about The Occupation of Alcatraz.

22 Nov 2021 | 45: The Dingo Did It. Ulru Kata-Tjuta National Park | 01:12:29
“A dingoes got my baby!”. You may have heard this phrase in a parody in pop culture over the years. But do you know the tragic true story behind it?
!Warning! This story contains content relating to the death of an infant.
Forty-one years ago, the Chamberlain family went on Holiday to the Australian outback. But on their second night, their idyllic getaway turned to tragedy when their young child was taken in the night from their tent. What ensued was a modern-day Australian witch hunt, one in which a mother was vilified – and painted by the media as a monster who was desperate to cover up a horrendous crime. For thirty years Lindy Chamberlain and her family stood firmly in their account of what happened on August 17th, 1980, maintaining their innocence for thirty years – maintaining that their hands were clean … because the dingo did it.

20 Dec 2021 | 49: Island of Death. New River Gorge National Park. | 00:49:16
In this week's episode we head to New River Gorge National Park, the newest National Park in America. At face value, this new and beautiful park is full of fun activities and beautiful landscapes. But, if you dive deeper and really take a look at the smaller, less known areas, there are very dark stories that reside here.
On an island called Red Ash Island, a place many visitors just pass right by without a second thought, lies a graveyard of over 200 people and their stories.
This week we're taking a bigger look at old forgotten ruins and traveling way back in history to learn about what they once were.

27 Dec 2021 | 50: Exile Island. Kalaupapa National Historic Site. | 00:58:19
For the last episode of 2021, we are headed to the Hawaiian island of Molokai, home to one of the most remote peninsulas in the world. For over a century, thousands of people suffering from ma'i ho'oka'awale, or the “separating sickness” were ripped from their families and forced to the Kalaupapa peninsula, doomed to spend their lives in exile. The dark history of this National Park Historic Site is lightened by the resilience of the native Hawaiian people, their enduring spirit and their efforts to protect and preserve this sacred place.

03 Jan 2022 | 51: Surviving the Worst Weather on the Planet. White Mountain National Forest. | 01:01:28
This week we are heading back to our home state of New Hampshire. This little state is full of big surprises as it is known for the worst weather on the entire planet.
We dive into our knowledge of New Hampshire and the White Mountains (and add in some local tips for your visit) as we head to the slopes of Mount Washington.
In January of 1982 two teenage climbers headed out to ice climb and summit but a horrible storm rolled in bringing snow, 140 mph winds and negative temperatures.
When the Mountain Rescue Service goes out to help them, they find themselves in their own mission for survival. This is a story of extreme loss and tragedy and then redemption and strength.

10 Jan 2022 | 52: The Man-Made Man-Eater. Jim Corbett National Park. | 01:18:35
This week we cover the story of the Champawat tiger, the most deadly animal on record. In this week's episode Danielle tells us the tragic tale of this tiger, the lives she claimed and how it all began. A morbid story no doubt, but there is so much more to it than that. Underneath its terrifying outer skin, this story has layers of discussion regarding the repercussions of irresponsible wild land management, a sobering history of hunting in India and consequences of our collective actions - but with a twist. Jim Corbett was the Champawat's deadliest adversary, but eventually, he stood as her fiercest protector. Learn how Jim Corbett National Park came to be, and what we can do to be better stewards of our planet and those who share it with us through one of the most tragic stories in history.

17 Jan 2022 | 53: The Daring Escape of Ellen and William Craft. Boston African American National Historic Site. | 01:14:01
This week we are traveling back in time to the 1800s. Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and we are taking a deep dive into one story in black history. We follow Freedom Seekers Ellen and William Craft on their 1,000 mile journey to the north. After being enslaved their entire lives, they decide to risk everything to find freedom and create a life they always wanted.
It's not an easy journey, as Ellen disguises herself as a white male and William's enslaver. They face many challenges and people who would go to extreme lengths to make sure they never escape. The National Park Service not only preserves our wild landscapes and wildlife, but it also preserves history. The Boston African American National Historic Site preserves an important part of theirs.

In 1836 a discovery of 17 miniature coffins in Holyrood Royal Park in Scotland sparked a heated debate. Who created them, and what did the represent? Theories abound, but today we go back in time to explore one of the most widely accepted theories out there - that they represent the victims of the famed serial killers William Burke and William Hare.

31 Jan 2022 | 55: She Who Shapes the Sacred Land. Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. | 00:44:55
Grab your sunscreen, cameras and hiking shoes, this week we are heading to the incredibly diverse and magical landscapes of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. As we walk into these rainforests and barren volcanic landscapes, you can feel the mana, spiritual power, that lives here.
Pele, the most revered goddess of Hawaiian Mythology, is to thank for the creation of these little islands. She has the power to destroy them and to create life. She is the spirit behind the two most active volcanoes in the entire world.
Rumors have spread saying that to steal from the island is to steal from Pele and will make you cursed for many years. When people start experiencing bad luck, thousands of letters of apologies returning stolen rocks make their way to the park service. Is this curse real? Or is it actually more harmful than helpful?

07 Feb 2022 | 56: Dying for the Cause. Yosemite National Park | 01:10:47
In today’s episode we head back to Yosemite to have a debate. National Parks were created “for the benefit and enjoyment of the people”, but what happens when that enjoyment is restricted? BASE jumping is the most dangerous sport in the world, but that doesn’t stop people from wanting to pursue it. National Parks are some of the best (and safest) places to enjoy the sport, but it’s illegal. Today we talk about the history of the sport, the reasons the NPS have prohibited it and those who have such a passion for it - they'll fight to the death for the right to participate in it.

14 Feb 2022 | 58: The Graveyard of the Pacific. Pacific Rim National Park Reserve | 01:04:48
Have you ever wondered why some trails are created? In Pacific Rim National Park Reserve on the coast of Vancouver Island, is the West Coast Trail. A beautiful trail that attracts backpackers from all over the world every single year. It is full of lush greenery, beaches, and exciting wildlife. It's the perfect place to escape to for an adventure.
But this trail wasn't created for backpackers. It was created for a different reason, to rescue survivors of shipwrecks off the coast. Here lives some of the most dangerous waters in the Pacific Ocean. In 1906 one of the most devastating shipwrecks happened. Due to bad weather conditions and mistakes in navigation, it crashed onto a reef, just out of reach of land. Passengers and crew members did everything they could to try to get to safety but the violent waves fought them every step of the way. Onlookers had no way to reach them to help, and stood by helplessly as people died.

Who doesn’t love a good legend? Stories of vanished civilizations, ancient beasts and long-lost gold sink their hooks into us and leaving us wanting more. Legends that allude to things that are lost are exciting because they suggest at one point, they must have been discovered … and could quite possibly be found once again.
This week we are back in Canada, in one of the most beautiful and least visited National Parks in North America to discuss some of the many legends it holds. Is there any truth to them? The relationship humans have with animals stretches back thousands of years. Animals provide us joy and companionship, can be the source of sadness or elicit fear. An animal who has divided us and also unified us. Join us on another journey to Danielle’s favorite park, Yellowstone, where she shares the story of the American Wolf.

18 Apr 2022 | 70: The Trailside Killer. Point Reyes National Seashore. | 01:18:36
We turn to nature for so many reasons. To find peace, seek answers, to heal and more. It’s amazing what a simple walk in the woods can do for the soul and thus, why so many of us trek out into the wild in search of our own slice of magic. But not every person found in the forest is searching for the same. Some turn to nature not for magic, but to search for victims. Today we discuss the crimes of The Trailside Killer, who terrorized the trails and claimed the lives of at least 10 people in National and State Parks of northern California.

25 Apr 2022 | 72: A Martyr and a Murder. Everglades National Park. | 01:17:46
In the late 1800's feathers were a huge fashion craze, to have them on your clothing was a signal of wealth and importance. To obtain these feathers, plume hunters decimated the fragile ecosystem and wading birds of the Everglades. The devastation caused an uproar and a call for conservation efforts to be put into place. Guy Bradley happily accepted the position as Game Warden and wildlife protector of the Everglades. He believed in the cause, and was willing to give his life for it. After his murder, the world finally took notice on what he was fighting so hard to protect.

Grab your lifejacket, a paddle, and your best dry-bag because this week we're heading to different countries throughout Africa to explore some of the best whitewater rapids in the world. We follow the extraordinary life of Hendrik Coetzee, an avid outdoorsman who finds his true love and passion on the white waters. Not only are these some of the best rapids in the world, they're also some of the most dangerous, and are filled with aggressive hippos and man-eating crocodiles. During his journey he experiences extreme challenges, faces cannibalistic tribes, has huge adrenaline rushes, parties hard, and falls in love. Someone who lives life on the edge like this though - can't sustain it forever.

09 May 2022 | 75: The Bone Collector. Effigy Mounds National Monument. | 01:00:48
National Parks, as most places do, have rules. And for good reason. It is expected as visitors that we abide by them, and it is also expected that Park Rangers not only uphold them themselves, but enforce them. But what happens when they don’t? What happens when those whose objective is to preserve, protect and enhance - turn their back on those very commitments? Today we venture to Iowa, to Effigy Mounds National Monument – a place rich with cultural history. This monument is famous for its hundreds of burial mounds and notorious for a scandal that disrupted those who were laid to rest within them.

16 May 2022 | 76: Buried Alive in the Australian Outback. | 00:56:51
Join us this week as we head into the Australian Outback. In 2006 Ricky Megee was offered a job on the opposite side of the country. He accepted and packed his bags for a 55 hour road trip to begin his new adventures. When he comes across a group of men broken down on the side of the road, inside Australia's most desolate countryside, he stops to help them. These men aren't broken down though and shortly after, he wakes up buried alive hundreds of miles from any civilization, in one of the most unrelenting deserts on the planet.

This month we take a trip back to Olympic National Park and get to know Jane Constantino – a young woman who lived life to the fullest. Her adventures and subsequent brushes with death led her to Washington state, all in the hopes of checking off an item on her list. Perhaps driven by an ominous premonition, Jane explored the world and experienced life while she still had time. Time, that was cut short – just as she thought it would be.

13 Jun 2022 | 79: People of the Parks - Kathryn Miles | 01:09:21
In May of 1996, Lollie Winans and Julie Williams headed to Shenandoah National Park on a backpacking trip. They were two avid outdoor women who were in love and celebrating their relationship, new jobs, and moving in together. Several days into their trip they went missing and eventually park rangers found that they had been brutally murdered. To this day the case has still not been solved and investigations have slowed down, until now.
In this episode we speak to investigative journalist Kathryn Miles. Kathryn recently published her newest book, Trailed: One Woman's Quest to Solve the Shenandoah Murders. She spent the past several years personally investigating this case discovering police cover ups, negligence in their investigations, lost records, and evidence that was never properly investigated. Today, she tells us about the evidence she has found, the likelihood of this cold case being solved, and how this horrific event has rocked the outdoor community.

Today we are headed to the mountains of Rwanda for part one of our two-part series on the story of Dian Fossey. Her love for the animals and passion for conservation changed the tides for the future of the species – never underestimate the change one person can enact.

15 Aug 2022 | 91: Surviving the Jungle. Lorentz National Park. | 01:11:00
In 1945 a sightseeing tour plane carrying American military personnel crashed into the western New Guinea jungle. The survivors spent the next several weeks trying to survive the harsh elements in a land that they knew very little about. They weren't alone though, they had landed right in the middle of indigenous tribal territory, people who they knew to be cannibalistic and violent. In this struggle for survival, they'll have to open their hearts and minds to people who are foreign to them if they want to make it out alive.

19 Sep 2022 | 98: Unfinished Business. Crater Lake National Park. | 00:49:56
Alice Simms always knew her grandfather Albert was murdered. For most of her life, she didn’t know much about him, his life or death. Her mother never talked much about him, and Alice never wanted to ask – afraid she may open a painful wound. But after her mother died, Alice believes she came back to her from beyond the veil – and encouraged her to finish what she had begun, to find who killed Albert Jones. Today we visit Crater Lake National Park, the location of the biggest unsolved mysteries in the Pacific Northwest – the murders of Albert Jones and Charles Culhane.
