107 | Iboga vs. 5-MeO-DMT: Navigating the Two Strongest Psychedelics on Earth
00:52:17
In this episode, I am focusing on Iboga and 5-MeO-DMT, two of the most potent substances known to humankind. This episode is to serve as a guide for people who are unsure of which heavy hitting psychedelic to work with. My theory is that while these two medicines are complete polar opposites, together, they offer a whole and complete picture of what this human existence is all about. Both help us answer important questions from different angles.
I provide an in-depth comparison of Iboga and 5-MeO-DMT, discussing:
what the medicine is
origin
ethical considerations
use cases
the experience
duration
energy of the medicine
preparation process
integration considerations
physical effects
who it's best suited for
how to know if you're ready for each one.

088 | How Underground Psychedelic Guides Develop Their Skills, Wisdom & Training (w/ Rachel Harris)
01:00:37
The women of the psychedelic underground stand in stark contrast to psychedelic therapists, clinicians and researchers. In some ways, they hold much more wisdom and knowledge about working with these medicines. It’s an honor to have Dr. Rachel Harris back on the podcast to discuss this. Since we last spoke, she has released a new book called Swimming in the Sacred: Lessons from the Psychedelic Underground.
This is one of the most important books written about psychedelics, as it shines a light on the wisdom and work done by elder women psychedelic guides. Dr. Rachel Harris has been in private practice for 40 years as a psychologist. Later in her career, she began exploring psychedelics for healing and transformation. In this conversation, we dissect what exactly transformation is, and the qualities that these underground elder guides have, making them so effective at facilitating transformation (which is very different from healing).
Listen in for a chance to win a copy of Swimming in the Sacred!

054 | A Critique of Healing Culture, Psychedelic Narcissism & Hyper-Individuality w/ Adam Aronovich
01:27:19
I wish I had the information in this podcast years ago when I was stuck in the never-ending healing journey. This conversation is a call move away from hyper-individualism and instead turn “one eye inwards, and one eye outward.”
Adam spent more than four years conducting research and extensive fieldwork in the Peruvian Amazon, where he also facilitated Ayahuasca workshops in the context of shamanic and medical tourism. He is the creator of Healing from Healing, a social media platform that casts a critical, skeptical and humorous gaze at Healing Culture.
Adam has insights and reflections based on his years of experience overseeing participants of ayahuasca ceremonies. He challenges the commonly heard (harmful) narratives, sense-making and spiritual orientations of medicine guides.
This episode will give you a fresh perspective of the healing journey. Once we get over how triggering it is to call out our own “psychedelic narcissism,” we can see an alternative path; one that is oriented towards not just the individual, but the social, cultural and environmental systems that need healing just as much as individuals do.

We are all carrying stuff that isn't ours. These are the traumas we have inherited from our parents or even grand/great-grandparents. Psychedelics allow us to release these things so that we don't have to carry them anymore or pass them on to future generations. It didn't start with us, but it gets to end with us. For us, this has given such a deeper meaning to the work which is beyond ourselves. In today's episode, we are sharing our experiences with ancestral healing sparked by ayahuasca ceremonies.
What we talked about:
Intergenerational trauma: the spiritual perspective and the epigenetics perspective
Zoey coming to a place of working with the physical body to heal and process ancestral trauma
Lana sitting through and healing family trauma of experiencing war and clearing trauma from her father’s lineage
How “doing your work” ripples out to all of humanity - past and present
How the universe responds to changes in you as a result of your healing

048 | BE and Allow What Is with Darkness Therapy: A Substance-Free Psychedelic w/ Scott Berman
01:36:48
Today we are going to be exploring something that is on the cutting edge of spirituality and personal growth these days- darkness retreats. This consists of spending three to ten days in the pitch darkness and solitude. It’s a profound experience that is very psychedelic (without the substances).
It comes as no surprise that darkness therapy is an ancient modality that has been used by ancient indigenous peoples across the globe. Only recently has it reached North America, and the founder of the first darkness retreat in America is today's guest.
Scott Berman is the creator and founder of Sky Cave Retreats. Throughout the last decade, he has spent over two years in self-guided solo retreats in remote wilderness. He did his first dark retreat in 2012 and has spent over 70 days in multiple darkness retreats and has also done a couple with his wife. He has supported and facilitated over 250 dark retreats at his center in Ashland, Oregon.
We talk about the similarities and differences between darkness medicine and plant medicine, endogenous DMT production in the darkness, redefining spirituality, and so much more.

095 | The “Refinement” Stage of Psychedelic Integration: Personal Style, Slow Fashion & Conscious Consumption
00:52:18
What in the world is a psychedelics podcast doing talking about “personal style” and fashion?! This has to be the first. But discovering your personal style is identity work that requires vulnerability. It’s a deeply meaningful journey of self discovery. If you don’t see the connection now, then you will by the end of this podcast.
In this episode, I am introducing a concept around the different stages of psychedelic integration: There is the “heavy lifting” stage where we’re doing deep work to significantly improve our lives, followed by the “refinement” stage which is a lighter process of fine tuning.
For me, this refinement process is showing up in my journey to discover my personal style. The misalignment between my identity and my wardrobe has come up a few times during psychedelic journeys, and I am finally addressing it so that the outside is a true reflection of my inside. I also make the connection between the responsibility to find your personal style, living a values-based life, and sustainable consumption.
Topics Covered:
The “heavy lifting” vs “refinement” stages of psychedelic integration
The connection between life satisfaction and values-alignment
How refinement is showing up for me through personal style
How personal style came up during my psychedelic experiences
Why I stopped caring about fashion during my healing chapter
Why I started caring about fashion again after my healing chapter
Fast fashion overconsumption as a result of not knowing my personal style
My core values that are aligned with knowing my personal style
My journey to discover my personal style so far
Consumption habits and making wise purchase decisions

087 | My Full Psychedelic Healing Journey & Origin Story: War, Abandonment, Heartbreak & Alienation
01:05:06
This episode is so personal and vulnerable that I am almost uncomfortable sharing it publicly. I share my entire life story and my healing journey out of the darkness. I take listeners through the formation of my core wounds and self-destructive narratives, which ultimately left me depressed, anxious, lost, and disempowered to move my life forward in a positive direction.
But that’s only half of the story. The second half is the documentation of my healing journey with therapy, medicine work and self-discovery. By sharing these details, I am shining a light of the gift of the struggle. Most of my life has been an uphill battle, but in recent years I have reached a place of peace, happiness and fulfillment. And most of all, gratitude for it ALL!
Please consume this episode with nothing but love, as the specifics shared are very vulnerable and done with the aim of inspiring and giving hope to others who are also struggling in life. One thing is for sure: It’s possible to get to the other side, and life can be better than you ever thought possible.

069 | Bridging Indigenous Ayahuasca w/ The West at An Ethical Psychedelic Retreat
01:16:47
PUBLISHERS NOTE: As of January 2024, I can no longer recommend Reunion as a place to experience plant medicine. See full statement HERE. This does not pertain to the guests in the episode, whom I still endorse as medicine providers.
Ayahuasca and Psilocybin-containing mushrooms are a beautiful gift to humanity. As we explore these medicines in the West, we need to remember that we are entering a cultural paradigm that is different from our own. In this interview with Sr. Program Directors at Reunion Experience, we explore how we can show up to medicine in a good way.
If you want to enter medicine spaces with respect, reverence, and reciprocity for the cultures that these medicines come from, this conversation is for you. This convo is extremely valuable for current or aspiring space holders in the world of plant medicine, AND, for participants in plant medicine circles.
I had an opportunity to visit Reunion in Costa Rica, and realized that it's a truly special place. The fact that it's a not for profit center is the tip of the iceberg. Medicine is truly guiding the way the Reunion team operates: With deep humility, grace, reverence and respect for the cultures, plant teachers, and the Way of Nature.
Karina and Julian are not speaking on behalf of any of the lineages they work with, rather from their experiences as students and cultural bridges.
Topics covered:
How they both got involved with facilitating plant medicine experiences
A little bit about Reunion Experience in Costa Rica, a not for profit plant medicine center
Building relationship with different Wisdom Keepers and teachers
Reciprocity and the art of giving and receiving under a not for profit model
What it means and looks like to put people and the planet over profit
What is a cultural bridge & how to be one
The path of studentship with direct indigenous wisdom keepers
What does respect in medicine spaces mean?
Plant medicine as a relationship, not a tool

097 | 5-MeO-DMT Integration Update: Eight Ways Life Is Better & Heart-Centered Living (6 Months After Enfold)
01:12:16
Six months ago, I had my most profound and impactful psychedelic experience yet. I smoked 5-MeO-DMT, left my body, somatically released stuck energy, and experienced the infinite love of the universe. This experience set me on an integration journey that has up-levelled my life in ways I couldn't have imagined. In this episode, I'm excited to share the details of my integration journey over these past six months. While there have been many ups and downs, the overall impact on my life and energy has been immensely positive.

080 | The Rematriation of Psychedelics: Centering Women, Mothers & Indigenous Wisdom
01:19:40
My guest today is Mikaela de la Myco. I was drawn to the way she presents herself as a mother in the psychedelic space through her platform, Mama de la Myco. I had every intention in having a conversation with her about psychedelic parenting. However, I threw out all my questions out the window and followed Mikaela’s energy; it was clear that Mikaela had so much to share with us about centering mothers, women, and indigenous voices in the psychedelic movement.
She lends us a perspective around how the psychedelic mainstream movement is falling short, and the reality of how indigenous people are treated in the psychedelic industry. In addition, we talk about how mushrooms are helping mothers through the challenges of the postpartum period, and how psychedelics might be useful for families.
Mikaela is currently pouring into the Mushrooms and Moms survey with support from Dr. Jim Fadiman and the Microdosing Institute. This project is surveying mothers and birthing people who consumed psilocybin mushrooms throughout their motherhood and parenting journey in order to accumulate a body of evidence for effects of psilocybin on birthing people, women and their children. If you’re a mother or birthing person, please consider contributing to this, linked n the show notes.

The recreational use of psychedelics is a deeply meaningful experience for many people yet there is a lot of shame around it. The spiritual community loves to knock partying as “low vibe” which is downright incorrect; some of my most beautiful memories have been at parties and on dance floors. These FUN experiences are equally as valid as the therapeutic ones.
It's time to break the stigma around the recreational use of psychedelics.
This episode is an important listen regardless of whether you party with psychedelics or not. By consuming this information you will be a part of breaking the stigma around ALL types of intentional and safe psychedelic use. As long as we are educated, safe and intentional, there is nothing wrong with psychedelics in a recreational context. In fact, it can enrich our lives and provide deep meaning and connections.
I brought on two of my friends and dance floor comrades, Jenalle and Kevin, to explore this topic. Jenny is doing amazing work in the psychedelic space with her journal company, Wakeful Travel—a ceremony-companion company that works with wakeful partners to provide tools that aid in transformation and self-exploration. Kevin is a creative director and a true champion of the party spirit. He brightens up my life in with his playful spirit.
Both guests are intentional in every part of their lives, including partying. This episode embodies the spirit of an unforgettable party—it’s fun, light and goofy, even while exploring the more serious considerations around partying and drugs.
Topics covered in this episode:
How the history of house music + rave culture parallels the story of psychedelics
Integrating meaningful dance floor experiences and insights into everyday life
How electronic music, intentional community and psychedelics all come together to create a very special experience
The crossover between recreational and therapeutic use: the dance floor as a therapeutic experience and form of release
Fun, goofiness, play and shenanigans for the sake of fun, without making it about healing
Balancing partying with medicine work and life
Intentionality, moderation, safety and mindfulness when partying

065 | Ketamine 101: Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy & Making Treatment Accessible with Dr. Kyle Greenway
01:09:18
It’s the ketamine episode you’ve been waiting for! Ketamine is not technically a (classic) psychedelic, yet it behaves like one. Many researchers and scientists in the psychedelic space consider it to be a psychedelic, and are applying the psychedelic assisted psychotherapy model to its use.
This episode is a treasure trove of information for those who are considering ketamine for treatment, and those who want to learn more about this “chameleon” drug. Delivering this information is Dr. Kyle Greenway; a highly respected ketamine researcher and psychiatrist. He keeps a low profile, so it was truly special to have him on the show.
Dr. Greenway is a psychiatrist and assistant professor at McGill University. He completed a research fellowship at Imperial's psychedelic research centre and co-led the development of two academic clinics utilizing ketamine in treatment-resistant depression. These clinics are amongst the only services in the world to provide ketamine-assisted therapy in public healthcare systems.
Beyond his academic accolades, Dr. Greenway is very fun to learn from. I promise you that even though this conversation is highly academic, we had a lot of fun talking about serious subject matter.

074 | Kanna: Supporting Depression & Anxiety with This Legal, Safe & Researched Plant Medicine w/ Ryan Latreille
01:11:21
Could this succulent from South Africa be a daily ally for managing anxiety and depression? Research says yes. Some of the active alkaloids found in Kanna have been well researched and are now prescribed for treating such mental health conditions. Not only is Kanna well researched, it is also legal and has very low risk profile.
Kanna is an empathogen, meaning it increases feelings of connection and empathy towards oneself and others. Rather than being a deep and intense psychedelic experience, Kanna is more often used as a gentle daily support. While it has been used ceremonially in high doses within indigenous cultures, Kanna also offers support as a supplement (microdose) rather than a high dose experience.
Delivering all this fascinating information to us is Ryan Latreille, founder of TWO Kanna companies. He tell us everything we need to know about this plant, in addition to how it has a use case in recreational settings, replacing other more toxic substances. We also cover indigenous use, contraindications, empathogens vs psychedelics, and so much more!
I am SO excited about Kanna, and I know you will be too after listening to this episode. Don't forget to share it with a friend who might find this information valuable!
Topics covered:
Ryan’s story and how he got involved with Kanna
What is kanna?
Kanna as a therapeutic for depression and anxiety

098 | MDMA for Relational Healing & How Psychedelics Improve Therapeutic Capacity w/ Dr. Anne Wagner
01:13:19
I take so much care in selecting guests for the show, and Dr. Anne Wagner is no exception. Dr. Anne Wagner is a psychologist, therapist, researcher, and founder of Remedy Institute in Toronto. It’s time to lift the snobbery of the psychedelic space and accept that recreational spaces are just as valid, beautiful, healing and meaningful as ceremonial or therapeutic spaces. Creating meaningful recreational experiences comes down to pscyho-education, preparation, following harm reduction protocols, set, and setting (no surprise there).
Join me for this incredible episode with DanceSafe, a non-profit committed to ending the drug war and promoting health and safety within nightlife and music communities.
Jessica Breemen, Chief Growth & Impact Officer at DanceSafe, gives us important risk reduction and benefit maximization information for the recreational setting. The purpose of this episode is to provide accurate and potentially life saving information information; it is not intended to promote drug use, rather, to shine a light on the reality of recreational containers, which is so far from the “drug-war” narrative.
As we move into social acceptance of psychedelics, I believe that it’s crucial that we do not stigmatize certain types of use while allowing others. Humans have been altering their consciousness with a wide variety of substances forever, and will continue to do so. It makes no sense to gatekeep and stigmatize certain substances while allowing other largely toxic and harmful ones — alcohol — to be so freely used and accepted.
Topics covered:
This history and mission behind DanceSafe
Stigmas and myths about recreational drug use
The reality of adulteration and how to reduce risk
Early signs of dependency & problematic use to look out for
Harm reduction tips to employ for all substances

049 | My 2nd Iboga Ceremony: Finding True Peace + Ayahausca vs. Iboga (At Iboga Wellness Center)
00:55:38
"Iboga shows you the truth. And when you see the truth you’re not confused anymore. And when you’re not confused anymore, life becomes easier and lighter."
The highly anticipated part 2 of my Iboga experience is here! If you missed part 1, I suggest you listen to that first over at episode 45. I recorded this two months after this experience and my love and respect for this medicine continues to deepen. This was a life changing, life affirming experience and I don't think I will ever be the same after iboga.
In this episode, I share about the second iboga ceremony at Iboga Wellness Center in Costa Rica. It was a wildly different experience from the first one, and I learned about what true inner peace means and how to access it. The beautiful thing about this experience was that I was already starting to integrate new behaviours during the retreat.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, firstly, to the Bwiti people who have opened their doors to Westerners, and allowing us to receive the iboga medicine and learn about the bwiti way of living. Thank you to Levi & Iboga Wellness for such a beautiful, safe and transformational experience. Thank you to the land & and Earth. Lastly, thank you to all the people involved with holding iboga & bwiti in reverence, and especially to those working to safeguard both the sacred wood and the bwiti culture. I bow to you. Bassé!

058 | Iboga Sustainability Issues: Building A Bridge Between Gabon, Africa & the West
00:59:09
Anyone who has worked with Iboga (or ibogaine) or is feeling the call will gain a lot of valuable information in this episode. It’s not a secret that there are severe sustainability issues with this powerful medicine. Not only is the medicine (the Iboga tree) being threatened, but so is the cultural heritage underpinning it.
Blessings of the Forest (BOTF) is non-profit organization working on the ground with the Gabonese to preserve, research and share knowledge about the medicinal plants and indigenous traditions of the Gabonese forest people for the benefit of all of humanity. Their impact is beyond planting iboga trees: they are working with the Gabonese to define and uphold right relationship with Westerners who want to work with Iboga.
This is a beautiful episode full of nuanced information about Iboga, Bwiti and Gabon. I interviewed David Nassim, BOTF’s co-director, who was so generous in his sharing. He took us through how the Western World has put a huge strain on access to Iboga for the Gabonese, and offers solutions such as upholding the Nagoya protocol, Voacanga Africana as a sustainable ibogaine alternative, and more importantly, really listening to what the Gabonese want and need.
Please donate to BOFT, with only 30 Euros you can sponsor an Iboga tree to be planted in Gabon. If you have worked with Iboga, it’s advised that you sponsor 3-5 trees.
PRODUCTION NOTE: The last few minutes of David’s mic is lower quality, but hang in there for his parting words of wisdom.
Topics covered:
Iboga sustainability & supply line issues that inspired the formation of Blessings of the Forest
How the Western World has put a huge strain on access to Iboga for the Gabonese

In this episode, we dive into the unspoken and messy realities of working with psychedelics. While many conversations focus on the profound healing and life-changing potential of these substances, this episode balances that narrative with some grounded real world truths.
