I once met a street performer in San Diego who, at first glance, didn't seem to have much of an act. His "thing" was stacking rocks as tall as he could, building precarious towers of different-shaped stones for passersby's amusement. But there was something about his manner. He had a special way of using focus and mindfulness to get those rocks to do exactly what he wanted, even when it seemed gravity might disagree. When he was done working with a surgeon's precision, we were left staring at a testament to the power of surrender: a tower that somehow balanced perfectly (which, by the laws of physics, was impossible). It then dawned on me, he wasn't just using ordinary physics… but metaphysics. While this performer used stones, you can apply the same principles of focus and intention through creative forms of meditation, some that may not seem like meditation at first, to balance our inner world.
