The Mets lose to the Red Sox 6-5 despite having the best pitcher in baseball on the mound and the team recording 15 hits!! Passed balls and poor defense aside, the team still had a chance to win it in the 9th, but no one could come through with the big hit. Yo went deep, Gimenez had a solid debut and Pete went 4-for-4 for the first time in his career, but timely hitting and questionable bullpen decisions did us in. Now we head into the final game with Matz on the hill, hoping to take a much needed series as we continue to play through the toughest opening schedule in the league.

No. We've lost far too many prospects already and with Uncle Stevie hiding in the shadows, dropping his bid for the team on the same day, this whole thing could easily mean annihilation. The guys welcome the start of baseball with optimism on the field and wariness off of it. After yet another firing and harassment scandal, KFC is skeptical that it will ever end. There's always something new and terrible on the horizon and until the team weeds out all of the old regime's mistakes it seems inevitable that we'll be dealing with this for the foreseeable future!! There is some good news this week though, pitchers and catchers are back! Jacob deGrom is the best pitcher in baseball and his new catcher is a STUD. James McCann has ingratiated himself with the clubhouse like we all knew he would and he's serving as an ambassador to all the new faces. When we signed the new back stop we heard all the stories of his leadership, we just never expected that it would take hold this quickly. He's gonna have this rotation purring like a well oiled machine in no time. We break down Luis Rojas' introductory presser, the potential starters and position combinations and how the lack of DH will play into our headaches all season long. We wrap up the pod with a familiar face, Darren Meenan of The 7 Line, who jumped into the clubhouse to talk about what he's been up to this offseason, the affects of the 2020 season on his business and his expectations for Uncle Stevie and the club heading into 2021. All of the projections place the Mets at the head of the division, but with the Braves, Nats and Phillies all looking strong, we gotta believe that this target on our backs is part of the Cohen effect and that we're in for a dog fight right from the jump.

The Mets fall to the Braves 5-3 in extras thanks to another forgettable save attempt by EdLose Diaz. Steven Matz looked like a true #2 and the Mets bullpen was stable, but Diaz just flat out isn't the guy we thought he would be!! Conforto and Rosario combined for 5 hits and looked solid at the plate, however missed opportunities for insurance runs left us at the mercy of Edwin.

At the end of the day we're all just rooting for laundry and there's no better example than these replaceMets. The team has been ravaged by injury with 14 players heading to the IL, yet despite the tough times, the Mets march on. Under past ownership who knows where we would have wound up, but the Bench Mob rolls deep and we roll on! The guys talk about the tough series in Tampa that should have netted us at least one win but, even though it was a sweep, there wasn't any gut wrenching losses. Sometimes you just get beat and that's baseball Suzyn, you can't win them all. What's encouraging though is the way the squad came together for the Braves. It would have been easy for them to take the sweep and head into a tailspin, but these aren't the Mets you grew up on. If you would have told us that we'd have back-to-back bullpen games and win BOTH with THAT lineup, we wouldn't have ever believed it, but this team believes in themselves and that's all that matters. Look no further than the Villar-Pillar duo and Tomas Nido to see that there's something special going on around here. Pillar literally had his face broken and was back in the clubhouse and dugout the next night cheering on his guys. Teams that close always go places. KFC and Clem break down the good juju, how everyone on the team (minus Joey Luchessi) is a fan favorite and the calvary coming in June. We always "said" we believed, but that hasn't always been the case. Mets fans are pessimistic by nature, it's just the way we're wired, but things are a changing and Kevin has even had himself an epiphany! If he can believe then you can believe and if you can believe then we can believe cause this team is in first and better days are ahead so we gotta believe!

We've got KFC and Clem BACK IN STUDIO for this week's episode and it was good vibes for all. The guys watched the conclusion of the DBacks' series live and we jump into the June Swoon curse. We're not gonna sugar coat it for you folks, June has been a disaster of a month for as long as anyone can remember, but that was the old Mets. Those were teams that crumbled under pressure and didn't have the INFRASTRUCTURE to dig themselves out of a hole. This team doesn't even have all of its all-stars and even KFC can't be swayed away from the positivity! The June Swoon is dead and it's Good Juju June from here on out. Is the team running into a buzzsaw having to face the Padres for 7 games? Yup, but guess who the Padres have to face. That's right, the New York Mets, Taijuan Walker and Jacob deGrom. We're not the healthiest of teams right now, but that doesn't mean we aren't good. The team is solid and will only continue to get better and we need to start acting like it. Who knows? This could end up being our coming out party to the entire league. Maybe the Mets start making teams shake in their boots. The big bats of Pete, Dom, Lindor and McCann seem to be waking up and with a rotation and bullpen to back it up we gotta believe that this June will be different.

ONE HUNDRED EPISODES of the good, the bad and the Mets-ie. We started this podcast having never even heard of our Lord and savior uncle Stevie Cohen and look at us now! It's been a wild ride with highs and lows and wild boars, but one hundred episodes later and we're still standing and this team is still up four games in the NL East. We zig and we zag, but no matter the schedule or opponent we always seem to find ourselves with a four-game cushion. If you had told us that we'd have to play with mostly bench players and a taxed pitching staff and bullpen and we'd MAINTAIN a division lead over the course of that entire stretch, we'd call you crazy, but with June coming to a close we're still here. The offense hasn't looked good, that's just a fact, but no matter the circumstance we continue to, time and time again, find ways to pull out a W even when we shouldn't. Yes, it helps that the division is dreadful, but we're not exactly in fighting shape either. Nimmo should be back this week with JD Davis not too far behind, meaning that we'll have our first, full opening day lineup in nearly 2 months! For the fans complaining, have some perspective people. Things could have gone much, much worse and now we're coming to full strength right in time for the break. It's not often that the baseballs gods smile upon us so stop looking a gift horse in the mouth! The guys breakdown the Phillies series that saw our bats fall silent and their bullpen and defense implode. It wasn't a pretty sight to see, but as long as teams keep allowing us to stick around, we're gonna find ways to make them pay for it. We discuss the clutch hits from Lindor, Dom and Conforto, the great outings from the staff and why Bryce Harper really doesn't give the Mets faithful too much cause for concern. KFC also claims a new "guy," Clem alerts us to a swagger jacking and we determine whether or not that viral Jeter jersey is a troll job or the cruelest of punishments for one fan. This marathon schedule is not for the faint of heart, but we gotta believe that come all-star break we'll be in prime position to take this thing to a new level.

This episode is dedicated to the IL. It is NOT episode 100 since KFC wasn't available to record, but we needed to do something after the panic of this week's 4-game series with the Braves. We were all over the place with worry from the deGrom start to the Gsellman/Familia injuries to the Stroman hip issue, not to mention the lack of offense that directly stemmed from the Donnie Stevenson social media posts. It was a rollercoaster week for the Mets that ended up being all-to-do about nothing. We lost some key pieces in the bullpen, but gained some big bats in the lineup. A soul for a soul that's how this team goes. McNeil and Conforto came back and right out of the gate showed everyone what we've been missing. Such a breath of fresh air to have professional bats all strung together and protection for Lindor who can finally relax and start mashing like we all know he can. The guys breakdown the deGrom start, attack the Lindorks for their unfair treatment of our best pitching coach, discuss the lineup potential with all this depth and look ahead to a schedule that will take every bit of the squad to make it through. We're gonna need some guys to step up in a big way if we want to make it to the all-star break still in first place, but this is where contenders are born- forged by fire and the flames of a July hell. The team won't have another off day until July 12th, but we gotta believe that we're up for the challenge since we've already taken everything this season has thrown at us!

Speaking of Jose, Jose, Jose, we discuss his retirement, his impact on the Mets and how his off-the-field actions soured his image with the fanbase. The guys also pay homage to OG MetsBlog, do a deep dive into Point 72 (Stevie’s firm) turning away new business and declare once and for all that ARod needs to get out of the bidding war and CONCEDE TO COHEN. The Mets get crushed by the Braves 14-1 on a truly awful debut for Rick Porcello. The former Cy Young pitcher only lasted 2-innings before handing it over to sacrificial lamb, Corey Oswalt, and there was no looking back after that. We had been waiting for the other shoe to drop all series and when it did, the Braves dropped BOMBS all over us!! The offense continued to look anemic at the plate, Eduardo Nunez hyperextended his knee and we didn't even have our security blanket of Gary, Keith and Ron to get us through it because Chipper Jones and John Smoltz were having a conference call reunion right in our faces.

The Mets are doing just enough to stop us from abandoning ship. Every time we're on the edge, ready to take the plunge, they manage to do JUST ENOUGH to keep us sticking around. Yes, those teams usually find ways to rip our hearts out, but if we have any hope of turning this season around the time is now. The Braves have had a positively historic run at our expense and now they are heading into a Yankees, Giants and Dodgers Gauntlet that can allow us to make up a ton of room! Postive K refuses to Cuncel and if he and Clem are still on board then you should be too. We're not saying that this doesn't end in heartbreak, but we're still not ready to be done hurting. We gotta believe that the returns of Javy and Frankie give the team the boost they've desperately needed and we make one final run to glory! We've got Kevin Pillar hitting 2 HRs with his bloody bat like he's Negan from 'The Walking Dead,' Rob Manfred and the owners changing baseballs and conspiring against the pitchers AND hitters hitting free agency and absolutely no facts to back any of it up! It's been a wild week since our last episode and the team has only played two games. We had David Peterson take another step towards becoming the new Steven Matz, we had the offense wake up in a BIG WAY to salvage the 2-game series with the Orioles and we had conspiracies galore. We've been saying it all along, but this team's DNA just knows how to win. When you can turn the page that easily from a loss to an inferior team and not dwell on the past, that's when you know you've got staying power. Bench players, hurt super stars, unsung heroes- doesn't matter, winners win. Jacob deGrom rightfully gets all the hype for being the best pitcher in baseball, but in the shadow of his greatness sits not one, but two elite, all-star caliber pitchers who are in the top 15 in ERA. Taijuan Walker is not only pitching like an ace, he's the steal of the offseason. Trevor Bauer is making $102 million for 3 years, while Walker is making 23 pitching to a lower ERA. He's been a revelation to the rotation and a much needed boost during these tough times. Speaking of the times, the team has held first place for 40+ days and that number isn't resetting any time soon. Even with the June Swoon Gauntlet, it's not really conceivable that any skid can last with the way the pitching staff is built because 1-3 are solid and help is (hopefully) on the way. The guys discuss who in the BenchMob has earned a staring title even when the big names come back, which relievers and Triple-A players should be re-called to take over for Peterson and Luchessi and whether or not it's too premature to plan for October. Some might call it luck, we'd like to call it- well luck we guess so what? We can't help it if every team in the division gives up ground when we win. It's not every day the the pieces fall into place the way they have, but we gotta believe that when push comes to shove and we go head to head that we'll only further the distance on our way to the promise land and 96 wins!

Just when we thought we were going into our cocoon to emerge as a beautiful butterfly in November, we were dragged out for one last episode!!! Can't let the Yankees advance without giving our postseason picks for who's going to bring them down. Not that the season actually matters, but we'd be lying if we said we aren't rooting against the Yanks from getting their 27.5th rings. The guys break down the shitshow postseason schedule, which teams are contenders and which are pretenders and select their temporary teams to finish off the season. Also, the Mets wishlist keeps growing and with Lindor being added to the mix, we had to make some tough decisions on where the team is headed. Kills us to do it, but some fan favorites gotta be moved to make room for where we're headed and we gotta believe that the long term happiness will outweigh the short term sadness. Trust in the Cohen Effect and all will be rewarded.

No matter who the owner may be, there is one inalienable rule to baseball and that's that there are highs and lows to every season. No matter how good or bad a team is you can almost always pencil in 70 wins and 70 losses. Those extra 22 are what determines the cream of the crop. This week was a perfect example of that. Our starting pitching was pumping on all cylinders and the team was cruising to back-to-back series wins only to run into the down-on-their-luck Cubs who promptly handed our asses to us. That's baseball Suzyn, you can only hope that the losses are few and far between. KFC jumps on a grenade for his "guy" JD Davis and proclaims he's ready to ride with him until the wheels fall off (which they may have these past two games), we highlight a special father-daughter moment and Clem tells the "sky is falling" fanbase to chill out. We gotta believe that this past game will be the worst of the season. It has to be if we want to accomplish our goals, but that doesn't mean we have to win them all. Baseball is a game of gives and takes, we just need to make sure we're the takers. Now that's some smiles and cries for your ass.

Turns out there's only one team in town that should be worrying about their season and it ain't us! This was the weekend the fanbase needed to cool off and get some perspective of what a truly dysfunctional team looks like. Sure we've got our problems, but at lest we don't have problems like those schmucks across town. KFC and Clem break down the Subway Series, the team beating the bombers with bloops and blasts and just how fortunate we have become with our pitchers. If ever there was a time where we needed to be reassured that the team is good, this was it. Pete looks like he's got his power stroke back, Dom turned the clock back to last season and became a threat with every at bat and the rest of the squad did what we always expected them to do. We gotta believe that this last stretch to the all-star break will set everyone's minds at ease and set the team apart from the rest of the division!

That's a wrap on the 2020 season of We Gotta Believe! A corona shortened year that gave us 2 managers, a missing and presumed dead player, countless injuries/opt outs and a disappointing finish, but at the end of the day we got what we always wanted. Not a World Series title, but a new big time BILLIONAIRE owner!! We said it right from the start, this season was fraudulent anyway. We had our sights set on one goal and one goal only and that was running the Wilpons out of town. Free at last, free at last, thank Uncle Stevie because we are free at last. Despite not getting MLB owners' approval to take over the team yet, Steve Cohen has been busy behind the scenes putting together a team that we can one day be proud of. His first order of business? Bringing back the baseball maverick to be our new Mets President. This won't be the Sandy Alderson that you remember, this will be so much more. Granted the power to build the franchise the way that he always envisioned, we'll be getting the baseball mind that put together our current core of players plus the means to build a front office and clubhouse around them for lasting success. The guys break down what we can expect in the years to come, the hangups they may have about bringing in someone from the past and how this new look Mets could change our outlook on baseball forever. The expectations couldn't be any higher, but we gotta believe in Uncle Stevie and trust that a man who amassed $14 billion knows what it takes to win at all costs.

Special Bonus Edition of WGB because there is simply way too much going on with this ball club to cover it all in one episode. Not saying that we're going to have an episode for every series the Mets play, but when you got the new face of your franchise and the Hits6od going at it in a tunnel you better believe we're dedicating an episode to it!!! Team Rat, Team Raccoon or Team RatCoon it doesn't matter as long as the actual team keeps playing the way they have been. The Mets are on a 5-game win streak, currently in first in the NL East and the lineup is FINALLY HITTING. We said last week that they needed to bring Bully Ball back and some of the guys needed to show a spine and get angry and boy did they! Francisco Lindor and Jeff McNeil's frustrations apparently boiled over in the tunnel and what resulted was an absolute breakout for both superstars. They let the anger flow through them and they channeled it into mashing baseballs. Truly couldn't have seen that coming from the two most mild mannered people on the planet, but what's more is, we couldn't have made up that rat-raccoon cover story if our lives depended on it. So dumb, so stupid, so over-the-top, yet so perfect. If this run continues and we continue to beat the brakes off of teams then the RatCoon story will go down in infamy as the turning point of the entire franchise. The guys break down the positives and negatives of the story, how the club has responded since and the very high and very real expectations for the rest of the season. We also discuss the lock down bullpen, just how nervous we should be about deGrom's recent health scares and who are the next players targeted to "meet in the tunnel." There are a ton of reasons to convince you to believe, but all you need is a pair of eyes to see that this team is the real deal so we gotta believe.
