Nasty Savage is an American thrash metal band from Brandon, Florida. Formed in 1983 by vocalist "Nasty" Ronnie Galletti. The band has undergone various lineup changes, with Galletti and guitarist David Austin remaining the only constant members, until the latter's departure in 2022. Nasty Ronnie joins show host Jon "The Vernomatic" Verno, co host " SOUTHERN CAL" and show correspondent "BILL THE RAGER" on to discuss the March 24th Orlando show in which Bill and Southern Cal attended.  Ronnie reflects on the early Florida death metal scene, NASTY SAVAGE's direct effect on inspiring bands such as Death and Obituary and the live bar circuit at the time.  Ronnie shares his love of WENDY O and how his TV obsession came about and how SAVATAGE led the way in Florida Metal.   For nearly 40 years, the band recorded music, toured the world, and provided one of a kind live experience. In this episode, we’re exploring the new James Durbin CD “Screaming Steel”. Durbin is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Santa Cruz, California. Metal heads associate his name with his appearance on Season 10 of American Idol (2011), where appeared with Judas Priest for rousing renditions of "Livin' After Midnight" and "Breaking the Law" and also appeared with legendary guitarist Zakk Wylde. This was followed by Durbin’s debut album, 2011’s “Memories Of A Beautiful Disaster” that blended a mix of hard hitting riffs, vulnerable lyrics, and Durbin’s signature screams. In this interview, James relives his experience sharing the stage with Judas Priest, then takes us on his musical journey post American Idol, leading up to him joining Quiet Riot, then FINALLY releasing his first true heavy metal album “The Beast Awakens” in 2021, 10 years after American Idol. They also discuss James second heavy metal release, the new “Screaming Steel”, just released in 2024. James’s share’s his metal influences are deep in classic heavy metal with the likes of Dio, Sabbath and Iron Maiden. HELLO METAL HEADS- Tonight we present the second installment of our new series ROC N ROLL DETENTION ,as we are peeling back all the layers of the often overlooked ,but highly respected band BADLANDS. BADLANDS was an American heavy metal band founded by former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Jake E. Lee, former Black Sabbath members Ray Gillen (vocals) and Eric Singer (drums), as well as former Surgical Steel bass player Greg Chaisson.  After the first Badlands album, Eric Singer was replaced by Jeff Martin. The group lasted from 1988 to 1993 and released three albums. Badlands (1989) and Voodoo Highway (1991) were released before Gillen left and was replaced by singer John West from New York. Gillen's death in 1993 effectively ended any hopes of reuniting the project. The album Dusk (a demo recorded in 1992–93) was released in 1998 with the then-deceased Gillen on vocals. Metal Walt and Ian O'Rourke guide you on this episode as the two share their reflections on the two releases, what the music meant to them and the impact the band had on the rock landscape in the late 80's and early 90's. Fast forward to 2022, original singer Jeff Allen has reformed the band with guitarist Ken Mandat (Damien Thorne), Bassist Mick Lucid (Viscous Circle), and drummer Gabriel Anthony (Tyrant’s Reign). The new album features 11 hard-hitting tracks which were originally written by the original lineup in the early 80s, but recorded by the new lineup. Hello Metal Heads, On this weeks’ show, were joined by American filmmaker Adam Dubin a NYU film program graduate and a life long metalhead. While at NYU, Adam and a young Rick Rubin shared a dorm room and a passion for music and the media arts. The two were involved in the development of the Beastie Boys and helped launch their career both musically and visually. Adam co-directed the Beastie Boys music videos "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)" and "No Sleep till Brooklyn" with Ric Menello. In 1990 Adam was commissioned by Metallica to shoot some recording studio footage which eventually led to Dubin directing the feature-length documentary "A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica" as well as their music video "Nothing Else Matters "from 1991's Metallica: Metallica. This was the start of a 33 year relationship with Metallica that has included the 2013, Dubin directed documentary film Hit The Lights: The Making of Metallica Through the Never, starring Metallica and actor Dane DeHaan as well as the Freeze ‘Em All in Antarctica documentary In 2009, Dubin directed the concert film Stark Raving Black starring comedian Lewis Black. Wig Wam's lineup—consisting of vocalist Glam, guitarist Teeny, bassist Flash and drummer Sporty —has remained unchanged since the band's formation. The band's style mixes glam metal and hard rock with humorous lyrics and imagery. Although Wig Wam may not be a familiar name in the States, they’ve been at it for close to 20 years now & have had quite an amazing journey from their start to the present. Trond shares the incredible up and down history of the band & their forthcoming new release “Out Of The Dark”. We give our critique of some of the tracks from this release as well as our observation of the uniqueness of their sound. Today we’re here to talk with famed Vocalist, Zak Stevens. Zak has been behind the microphone since the early 90s & is best known as Singer of Savatage, Circle II Circle & a member of Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Stevens and producer / guitar player extraordinaire Aldo Lonobile make up the force behind Archon Angel and this album, aptly named ‘II’ is their second album together. Like their first effort, but even more in tune and perfected, ‘II’ is an impressive and powerful work of prog metal. On this episode we’re here to talk to Zak about his new Project, as well as his back history. Zak Stevens first came to prominence in the metal scene when he was hand-picked by Savatage's Jon Olivia to take over as lead vocalist for the band. Starting with 1993's Edge Of Thorns, he would record four studio albums with the band. He has also performed on multiple Trans-Siberian Orchestra releases, including Christmas Eve and Other Stories, Beethoven's Last Night, and more, while also being a member of the band's touring production. Around 2001, Zak started a band, Circle II Circle, which has recorded seven studio albums, with the most recent being 2015's Reign Of Darkness. Additionally, he has appeared on albums by Timo Tolkki's Avalon, Machines Of Grace, Jon Olivia's Pain, and more. Steve & Scott, lifelong friends, are promoting an amazing book titled PICTURES ALIVE: ROCK SHOWS OF THE 80s & BEYOND. The elaborate collection of amazing photos & stories contained in the book taken from concerts in the Bay area during the hey-day of Rock & Metal during the 1980s, is not your typical paint by numbers book, but instead is presented from the perspective & viewpoint of a music fan & enthusiastic concert goer. Steve & Scott were just like the rest of us, Heavy Metal junkies who loved to see their favorite bands, however Steve was THAT guy who snuck his camera into the show & decades later has unearthed these never seen before photos from bands like Van Halen, Kiss, Dio, Def Leppard, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Ozzy, Scorpions, Motley Crue and many others. But what makes his collection unique is that the photos are not professional, but still pretty damn good! Heck, who didn’t at some point try to sneak in a camera or cassette recorder to a concert! But beyond the pictures are the recaps and stories from the shows, the ticket stubs & concert ads, setlists, the interfaces with the bands themselves & the comradery with his best friends. In 2023 alone he released his second all-covers album, toured Europe with the Rock Meets Classic ensemble, plus the band he co-leads with Richie Faulkner, Elegant Weapons, released their debut album & toured the European Summer festival circuit. And if that wasn’t enough, he’s just released his brand-new solo album “Too Many Lies, Too Many Masters”, a labor of love Ronnie put all of his heart & soul into!  Ronnie shares a lot about his intentions for 2023 and in the future, as he takes his first big step into taking on all aspects of his musical career on his own, from the song writing to the producing, managing of his Brand, etc. & we take an in-depth look at the songs on the new album. Also, he talks all about the overwhelming response received from playing the new Elegant Weapons material to massive audiences, many who had likely never heard a song before & impromptu approach in selecting cover songs to add to the setlist. On this episode, we’re joined by Damian Kolodiy, Filmmaker & Founder of NYC ROCKS, a reality web series that follows people & bands active in today’s rock & metal scene. Damian, a NYC native currently residing in Germany, is promoting his new YouTube series covering the long history of the legendary NYC hard rock band, Riot: IMMORTAL SOUL: A RIOT TRIBUTE & CONCERT FILM. His 4-part documentary mini-series explores the history and archives of the different eras of the band, spotlighting specific live performances from each era. The film centers around the Keep It True festival (2022) in Germany, where interviews with Riot fans young and old illustrate this passion for the band. “Immortal Soul” also features interviews with longtime Riot members Don Van Stavern and Mike Flyntz, as well as “New York Rock” author/historian Steven Blush and Keep It True Festival founder Oliver Weinsheimer. The final chapter of the series tells the origin story of the current day formation of the band, Riot V, and how they are well suited to carry on the musical legacy of founder Mark Reale for a new generation of fans. In our dialogue with Damian, we learn just how he discovered this underappreciated band decades after their formation, what inspired him to make this film series, & how he set out to what would result in a massive undertaking of a project. Far more than just a chronicle & timeline of the bands career, his unique twist to their story comes to life with the amazing volume of archival content contained in the episodes. Hello Rivet Heads, On this week’s show, we present a Truly unique look behind the "Metal Curtain" as we speak to Brittany Chapman, the daughter of the late Paul Chapman, Guitarist of UFO. This is her story we have dubbed " Growing up Chapman". Brittany is the youngest of Paul's 3 children via 4 marriages, as well as being the only girl. Since Paul's death in June of 2020, Brittany has received condolence’s and well wishes from fans and musicians from all over the world. The magnitude of her late father’s finger print on the global rock community has been humbling to say the least for Brittany. You see, to us fans, Paul Chapman was a "ROCK STAR", but to Brittany he was her dad. Brittany shares countless stories of her family upbringing with her father, Mother, Step Mother’s, step siblings, nine grandsons and two granddaughters. You really get a look at Paul Chapman”, THE DAD" with his love of cooking and music. His connection to all 4 of his wives and how he was able to keep a positive family unit together while combining step children with his own children. Brittany shares her admiration for her mother Cheryl whom she refers to as the real “GOAT” of the family. Fun stories include putting up with the passed-out road crew of L.A. glam band in her living room to late night shenanigans involving swords. Brittany reflects back on her dad's love of cooking. Always preparing big meals with guitar in hand, for friends and family. Family was everything to Paul. It wasn’t always easy, Paul wasn’t perfect, but he had a perfect heart and loved both his close family and his music family. Finally, Brittany shares the continuous reach out from Her Dad's colleagues. Phil Collen and Joe Elliot of Def Leppard, Billy Sheehan, Rudy Sarzo, Kirk Hammett, Nicko McBrain and Radio DJ Eddie Trunk. The list goes on and on... Paul touched all of these music giants in a way that Brittany is just now fully realizing. "Growing up Chapman '' is Brittany Chapman's story and it’s a Damn good one! Paul Chapman (9 June 1954 – 9 June 2020) was a Welsh rock guitarist best known for his work in bands such as UFO and Lone Star. Chapman first joined UFO in 1974-1975 as a second guitarist for the live shows. He left UFO in January 1975 and went on to form Lone Star. Chapman later rejoined UFO in December 1978 on a full-time basis. Chapman recorded his first album with UFO – No Place to Run – It was released in January 1980. Chapman remained in UFO until 1983 In 1984 he joined Waysted and recorded the albums The Good the Bad the Waysted and Save your Prayers. Chapman also went on to form a new band PCP (Paul Chapman Project) and in July 2006, Chapman joined the American southern rock band Gator Country, a collection of Molly Hatchet veterans. In 2015, Chapman went out for a 10-week US tour with the Swedish/Canadian band Killer Bee. Chapman died on his 66th birthday on 9 June 2020. He left two sons, a daughter, nine grandsons and two granddaughters. He was well known by his nickname "Tonka", allegedly acquired because of his indestructible qualities. R.I.P.
