Leaders are creators. In last week’s episode of The John Maxwell Leadership Podcast, we discussed how leaders choose. This week, in Part 2 of this 3-part series, we’re talking about how leaders create. According to John, good leaders create four major things within their teams and organizations: confidence, strategy, ideas, and options. But, not only do great leaders create these four things; they foster an environment where others contribute to the creation process. Mark and Richard reflect on how this idea has helped their leadership and shaped their teams. They also challenge you this week to apply this principle by encouraging and boosting the confidence of someone within your team. 26 Jun 2019 | The Four Keys to Growth (Part 2) | 00:33:13
In part two of this series, John Maxwell focuses on the second key to growth, which states that growth means change. To reach for something new requires us to let go of something old. We must learn to embrace the process of learning, unlearning, and relearning if we want to make the most of our tomorrows. At 72 years old, John continues to live out this concept of growth as change. His example of getting rid of his treasure trove of notes and adopting new technology will inspire you to think through where you might need to let go of something you rely on so you can move towards something you want. Mark Cole (CEO of The John Maxwell Enterprise) and Richard Chancy share examples of how intentional change has resulted in significant growth in their lives. They also provide a series of questions to help you assess where you might need to change in order to grow. We have a special BONUS resource for this series: The Four Keys to Growth is a keynote address John did for the Live2Lead event. 12 Oct 2022 | Not In It to Win It with Andy Stanley | 00:35:46
Great leadership rests on a great irony––to lead you must serve. To be first, you must be last. This week, we have a necessary, yet uncomfortable leadership conversation with our good friend, Andy Stanley, about his new book, Not In It to Win It. This conversation is unique because it’s the first of its kind on the Maxwell Leadership Podcast. That’s because this episode is geared toward leaders, specifically church leaders, who have found themselves poorly navigating the current, often volatile, politically charged leadership landscape we exist in today. As you’ll learn, many church leaders have allowed political divisiveness to take president over values-based, people-centric, servant leadership––the kind of leadership that builds bridges, not walls. Whether you’re a leader in the church or not, we invite you into this conversation to learn about the importance of values-based leadership in all areas of the leadership landscape. If you’re a church leader, we hope you take this to heart as we learn from one of the greatest leadership teachers in history––Jesus of Nazareth. If you’re not a church leader, or even a person of faith, we invite you to consider this a case study about what happens when leaders put personal agendas before people. So, what can you expect out of this conversation? You can expect to walk away with a better understanding of how to serve those you lead, because everyone deserves to be led well. One helps you make a living; the other helps you make a life.” So, in today’s lesson, John Maxwell is going to share his own thoughts on wisdom, and what it really means to be a wise leader. Plus, he also shares some thoughts on wisdom from Benjamin Franklin. Once, John is done with his lesson, Mark Cole and Chris Goede discuss John’s lesson, the role that wisdom plays in their leadership, and what it truly looks like to “live skillfully.” Our BONUS resource for this episode is “The Wise Leader Worksheet,” which includes fill-in-the-blank notes from John’s teaching. Are you a leader or just a manager? According to John C. Maxwell, a manager’s goal is to do things right. A leader’s goal is to do the right things. In this episode, we’re continuing our discussion on moving from ordinary to extraordinary as a leader. John touches on the importance of realism, change, thinking, attitude, and planning in the journey to becoming extraordinary. Mark and Richard follow up with a discussion on the balance between realism and creativity. How does a leader embrace realistic thinking without smothering the creative fire? 07 Jan 2022 | Celebrating Jason Brooks | 00:03:51
Hey Podcast Family, I wanted to take a moment to share some news with you. On December 29th, 2021, we lost our beloved friend, mentor, and co-host, Jason Brooks after his nearly two-year-long battle with cancer. If you’ve been listening to this podcast for more than a couple months, I know that Jason had a positive impact on your life. Jason was one of the best leaders I’ve known. My life, and the lives of our team members have been truly blessed by his life and legacy. Jason’s vision for his life was to unlock the brilliance in others, and that is something he, without a doubt, achieved through his relationships, his family, his leadership, his work as an author, and the impact he made through the John Maxwell Enterprise. If you would like to share your thoughts or send your love to his family and friends, please visit MaxwellPodcast.com/Jason and leave a comment. Or, leave a comment on your favorite episode that he co-hosted. This is certainly a time of grief, but it is also a time to celebrate the life Jason lived with resilience, faithfulness, selflessness, and yes, leadership. One of my favorite episodes we recorded with Jason was one we did earlier last year called “Encouragement Changes Everything.” For this episode, Jason surprised Mark by coming into the studio for the first time since his diagnosis. It was an incredibly inspiring episode, so if you would like to listen to that episode, go to MaxwellPodcast.com/Encourage. And again, please leave a comment and share how Jason made an impact in your life. Jason, we love you and miss you. You were truly an example of how great leaders listen, learn, love, and lead. Until next time, my friend.

17 Jul 2019 | Six Temptations of Successful Organizations (Part 1) | 00:44:05
There’s a lot of great content in this episode, and you do not want to miss it! John Maxwell talks about the temptations that successful organizations face, and he offers business maxims to counteract them. The first key idea he shares is that you and your business never arrive. He ties that into our need to be growth-oriented rather than goal-oriented. Goals have a finish line, but growth does not. Mark Cole is quick to point out that goals are not bad, but they do need to be a part of an ongoing growth process. In a successful organization, leaders can be tempted to stop thinking big. John compares this challenge in business organizations to sports teams that switch from playing to win to playing to protect what they have. He points towards organizations that do something well and then want to stick to that same process for every venture moving forward. Richard Chancy reminds us that leaders make things happen! Our motivation may be a desire to win or a strong fear of losing, but either way we must be willing to work on ourselves, keep growing, and think BIG if we want to be successful over the long haul.
