14 Aug 2018 | How to Add Long-Tail Keywords to Your Content | Ep. #744 | 00:05:57
In episode #744, Eric and Neil discuss how to add long-tail keywords to your content. Tune in to hear how you can rank for long-tail keywords.
TIME-STAMPED SHOW NOTES:
[00:27] Today’s Topic: How to Add Long-Tail Keywords to Your Content
[00:33] If you type in Singlegrain.com or NeilPatel.com and use the Top Pages on the AHREFS or SEMRush sites, you can see how your pages rank and for which keywords.
[01:20] Look at all your content that is ranking and go to Google Search Console, where you will see the impression count, keywords, etc.
[01:50] Whatever someone is searching for, they are looking for a solution.
[02:01] When using keywords, make sure you are offering relevant content regarding said keywords.
[03:11] If you have a competitor that ranks above you for a certain keyword, you can take that URL and plug it into AHREFS. Then you can see all the keywords for which they are getting traffic and impressions.
[03:35] From there, you can judge whether you re able to adjust your content to include the keywords for which your competitors are ranking higher.
[03:55] It costs 6-7x more to acquire a new customer vs. maintaining existing customers.
[04:52] That’s all for today!
[04:57] If you could take two minutes out of your day, we are trying to improve the listening experience for you, so go to Singlegrain.com/survey and help us gain some insight into what matters to our listeners.

02 Jan 2018 | 6 Minutes of Marketing that Will Get You Ready for 2018 | Ep. #520 | 00:07:18
In episode #520, Eric and Neil talk about the year ahead in marketing and cover it all in six minutes. Tune in to hear what’s going to change and how to stay ahead of the curve in 2018.
Time-Stamped Show Notes:
[00:27] Today’s Topic: 6 Minutes of Marketing that Will Get You Ready for 2018
[00:35] It’s important to start looking at video and working on your video strategy.
[01:10] The rate at which video is growing, it’s important to grab a slice of that pie.
[01:30] Even Instagram has video!
[01:42] Look at the struggling platforms. Facebook is trying to compete with YouTube, but they want different types of content from YouTube. You will get way more reach with certain types of video on Facebook.
[02:25] Neil has 900,000 Facebook fans, 30,000 LinkedIn Connections, but his video views on LinkedIn equate to same amount as Facebook.
[02:50] Snapchat has been getting their butts handed to them by Instagram. So, they’re willing to do whatever it takes to win. They will tweak their algorithms to your advantage.
[03:13] LinkedIn will get you more listens and views than YouTube.
[03:26] Twitter clicks get you pennies, but the clicks are connections being made.
[04:15] Really focus in on the one thing that has been working for you and then double down on it.
[04:40] How Eric and Neil have doubled down: Eric and Neil now sit next to each other in the studio, they post their show on Spotify, and they do live episodes at various conferences.
[05:00] Ad costs are going to rise in 2018.
[05:14] As the costs rise on AdWords and Facebook, you will have to: create a funnel, push upsells, and push downsells.
[05:30] Without a funnel, it will be harder for you to compete.
[05:49] Live chat is going to get exponentially better in 2018. Facebook has added the ability to add free Facebook Messenger Live Chat to your site. Drift has added a developer platform. Intercom will continue to innovate, as well.
[06:12] That’s your six minutes!

07 Jun 2018 | Content Marketing Doesn't Work The Way You Think | Ep. #676 | 00:06:25
In episode #676, Eric and Neil Discuss the two schools of thought on content marketing. Tune in to hear how your conversions rates can be affected.
TIME-STAMPED SHOW NOTES
[00:27] Today’s Topic: Content Marketing Doesn't Work The Way You Think
[00:37] There are two schools of thought on content marketing: The first is: Write a lot of content and you will get rankings, traffic, and generate a ton of sales.
[01:02] Someone will not convert the same way if they visit your home page vs. your blog post, because the intent is to read, not to buy.
[01:20] You just have to keep in mind how conversions work.
[01:38] The second school of thought is that quality wins over quantity every time.
[01:50] Backlinko writes infrequent, high-quality content.
[02:07] HubSpot posts the most content, but their quality isn’t as good.
[02:44] However, they still do extremely well in rankings, conversions, etc.
[03:08] Backlinko is worth less than HubSpot.
[03:40] Guest contributors can bring in new audience members and get you more conversions.
[04:01] It’s all about finding high-ranking keywords and flooding the marketplace, which is what HubSpot does well.
[04:20] It’s all about creating a framework/system for posts and guest posts.
[04:35] Read the post from Tomasz Tunguz of Red Point Ventures about how content marketing compounds.
[04:48] You will have hits and misses, but the more you post, the more likely you are to be successful.
[05:00] Content marketing will boost your site authority.
[05:20] That’s it for today!
[05:26] Go to Singlegrain.com/Giveway for a special marketing tool giveaway!

12 Apr 2018 | 7 Unorthodox Marketing Hacks You Ought to Leverage | Ep. #620 | 00:07:07
In episode #620. Eric and Neil discuss 7 unorthodox marketing hacks. Tune in to hear what you could be doing to drive conversions.
TIME-STAMPED SHOW NOTES:
[00:27] Today’s Topic: 7 Unorthodox Marketing Hacks You Ought to Leverage
[00:35] #1: When driving people to your website, less than 5% will convert. For the 95% that don’t convert, re-market them with an opposite pitch (logical vs. emotional).
[01:22] #2: Every month, when Drift launches a new feature, they treat it as a product launch, which helps to keep them top-of-mind. Product Hunt is a great tool for this.
[02:22] #3: There is a program on LinkedIn that gives a special button that populates their LinkedIn info into a form, so they have less work to do. This will increase your leads and conversions, because there is less work to be done
[02:59] #4: Build a repurposing framework. Think about all the content you can take even further (turning a blog post into a video, social media post, webinar, etc.).
[03:36] #5: To increase your traffic, start doing things people wouldn’t normally do.
[04:01] The best way to get people from your blog to your landing page/product page is to place banner ads within your blog.
[04:27] #6: Offer something for free for the cost of shipping.
[04:57] Russell Brunson built his company by doing this.
[05:10] #7: Give people options in your ads.
[05:22] Within the first 30 seconds of a video about learning guitar, the instructor offered a link for beginners and a link for more advanced students.

13 Dec 2019 | What You Can & Can't Outsource with Social Media | Ep. #1230 | 00:08:49
In episode #1230, we give you some tips about when to pass off social media work to an employee or third party organization, and when to do it yourself. The audience that you have built around your personal brand can tell when the content you post hasn’t been written by you, so we recommend personability as far as tweets, stories, and photographs. Outsourcing can start to happen for things like checking social inboxes, video editing, and all those labor-oriented tasks that don’t require your personal touch. Hit play for the specifics!
