TRIGGER WARNING.  See below.  Dear friends...this is pretty raw.  Christina brings a listeners question to the show ~ tell us about your conversion.  It could have been raw-er, I suppose, but  raw enough that I'm not putting it up on social media...  Also, the editing is kind of poor.  Sorry, no excuses.   A while back, someone wrote in that they'd love to hear my conversion story.  And, my friends, trigger warning:  I experienced marital abuse.  Subscribers to the podcast will see it, and if you feel there's someone who needs to hear my story, for some reason, please share.

Blessings to you. Bonnie

Introducing Nathan Meffert, the developer of the Saintmaker Catholic planner.  This is so good, I produced this little  episode as there is a time constraint on the season that is coming out soon.

This is a short supplementary episode about a Catholic planner that was brought to my attention.  It’s new season is April 1, so I wanted to get it into my listener’s path as soon as I could. The Saintmaker helps us establishe our priorities and let’s us put the details in their proper place.

Thanks, Nathan!

18 Jun 2022creating homes: talking marriage with Monica and Renzo from Two Become Family00:49:46

send us a text via Fan Mail!

I am starting a little series for the next few weeks on creating the homes we desire for our family life.  The idea came from this article in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2223:
2223 Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children. They bear witness to this responsibility first by creating a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity, and disinterested service are the rule. The home is well suited for education in the virtues.

Wow.  Tenderness.  Forgiveness. Respect.  Fidelity.

We'll start with marriage.  I have with me today Monica and Renzo Ortega, who have a beautiful marriage ministry, through their website and their podcast, Two Become Family. Their story is beautiful and they tenderly draw us to greater depth and appreciation of marriage.

We discuss why we've lost confidence in marriage, nature and grace, ways to build self control, developing a family culture, over discernment, and how we can get ourselves out from places in our marriage that we don't want to be.

00:13 - Creating homes series, welcome Monica and Renzo
6:54 - Importance of finding support in the first ten years of marriage
10:03 - How did we lose confidence in the family and what is the role of grace?
22:24 - Practicing self-discipline impacts the whole family
26:39 - Creating a family culture of kindness, fortitude, prayer
30:23 - Guidance for vocational discernment
42:06 - Where do we start when discord has crept into the marriage?

09 Jul 2022creating homes: recording keeping and home education, part one00:35:14

send us a text via Fan Mail!

Well, how does this play into creating the kinds of homes we want to raise our families in?  In my opinion - HUGE.  Chaos undermines kindness.  Order is a form of beauty, and order in our brains, and reducing brain clutter makes us more available to the people that we love.  Because I have a scrambly sort of brain, I had to find ways to record what we do and how we educate that was simple and sustainable.  This is part one, part two will deal more with high school and creating a transcript.

00:15 - Keeping things less chaotic, bringing peace and order into the home
4:17 - Plotting out the school year, learning as a family and for individual children
14:06 - Wrapping up the school year
16:03 - Weekly record keeping sheet

But it the middle of it all, the whole point is JOY.  Nutrition should be beautiful, not frustrating.  Joyful, not a chore.  Thank you, Fallon, for your gifts.

05 Dec 2022Why We Kiss Under the Mistletoe: a new book and Christmas traditions in our family life00:37:58

send us a text via Fan Mail!

This is coming out as a supplementary episode because you are probably gonna want this book after listening and you need it before Christmas...

I talk with the cocktail man, Michael Foley once again, ultimately, about joy.  His new book Why We Kiss Under the Mistletoe” is so much more than a book about Christmas traditions.  We can learn history through Christmas traditions (rock that Christmas unit study…), and create deepen family bonds by sharing these traditions with our children.  We talk about why we, as a culture, love Christmas and ways to attain cozy in your family.  Michael shares how to approach developing Christmas traditions in your own home with joy and fun.  He reveals how we can capitalize on the “culture of merriment” and that idea alone is worth the book.
