Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Lloyd's early promise was evident when he clinched the Scottish Boys' Championship in 2003. Lloyd's amateur career reached its zenith in 2005, a year that saw him secure both the Brabazon Trophy and the St Andrews Links Trophy.
