15 Jun 2020#167 Janey Starling (Dream Nails)01:12:24

Dream Nails are Matt's favourite new UK punk band, and their singer Janey Starling has been someone he wanted on the podcast for a while. She's smart, informed, outspoken, engaging, passionate, funny, articulate - and one hell of a front woman. Dream Nails also happen to be one of the most exciting and important upcoming UK bands around. And with a lot going on in the world right now, it seemed like the perfect time to get Janey on the show. Unsurprisingly, we had an awful lot to talk about, too. Hopefully you enjoy, and take lots of interesting and positive things away from the conversation. Keep an eye out for the debut self-titled album by Dream Nails, coming later this year.

30 May 2021#217 Jaret Reddick (Bowling For Soup)01:30:18

Welcome to this very special episode of Life In The Stocks with my dear old Jaret Reddick from Bowling For Soup. I've known Jaret for ten years, since the Kerrang! Radio days, and he's one of my best friends in the music business. It's been six years since we last did an interview together, so we had an awful lot of ground to cover, and we got deep into it. People have been asking me when is Jaret going to make an appearance on the podcast ever since I launched the show in 2017, and believe me when I say it's been well worth the wait. This is one of the most honest, open & vulnerable podcast conversations you will ever hear. It's one of my all-time favourite episodes. Thank you to Jaret for being such a great guest and a great friend. I hope you find this talk as inspiring and life-affirming as I did.

20 May 2019#104 Ginger Wildheart (The Wildhearts)01:03:53

Ginger Wildheart has been a dream guest here on Life In The Stocks ever since the podcast launched in 2017 and it was an absolute pleasure and and honour to finally get him on the show. It's an intense episode this week, but hopefully an uplifting and inspiring one as well. The main thread of the conversation is mental health, suicide and depression, which obviously aren't easy topics to discuss, so thank you to Ginger for being so open and vulnerable and for sharing his struggles - hopefully anyone who suffers with mental health issues can take something positive away from this one.

11 Jul 2018#062 Ben Osmundson (Zebrahead)00:52:07

This week's podcast is a drunken chat from Slam Dunk Festival 2018 with Ben Osmundson from Zebrahead. There's stories of kegger parties with Sublime and No Doubt, festival brawls with Slayer, and Matt shares what happened to him on his last night in LA back in May...Listener discretion is definitely advised. (Here's hoping Matt's parents never hear this one!)

19 Dec 2019#144 Billy Pettinger (Singer-Songwriter)00:55:14

The podcasts are flying in thick and fast between now and the end of 2019 and Episode 144 features solo singer-songwriter Billy Pettinger. Billy is not only one of Matt's favourite artists, she's also one of his favourite people and this episode has been a long time coming. If you're someone who struggles with mental health issues, has been affected by depression or suicide, is a struggling musician, or been on the receiving end of sexual misconduct or abuse, then hopefully you will take lots of positive things away from Billy's inspirational story and spirit.

12 Feb 2018#045 Steven Van Zandt (Musician/Actor/Broadcaster)01:03:47

This week's guest is a living legend. Steven Van Zandt is a renowned musician, actor & broadcaster most celebrated as Bruce Springsteen's guitarist and right hand man in the E Street Band, as well as for his role as Silvio Dante in The Sopranos. He's also a successful songwriter, arranger, producer and solo artist in his own right, and host of Little Steven's Underground Garage - a weekly syndicated radio show that champions garage rock from the 1950s to the present day. Unsurprisingly, he's an encyclopaedia of musical knowledge, and he takes Matt deep down the rock 'n' roll rabbit hole in this podcast.

And, of course, we talk about the new Skindred album 'Big Tings' as well as Benji's other musical projects, including his solo reggae album, his country & western side project Diamond Spiders and his band with Robert Trujillo & Whit Crane: Mass Mental. 24 Jul 2017#020 Ryan Hamilton (Solo Artist)01:37:12

To celebrate this landmark episode of the podcast, Life In The Stocks brings you its most vulnerable conversation yet. The guest is Ryan Hamilton, formerly of Smile Smile & People On Vacation and now a solo artist in his own right. Even if you don't know Ryan's music you'll want to hear his story. Think Rumours-era Fleetwood Mac but with less cocaine - although Ryan did once smoke a joint with Woody Harrelson. It's a story of friendship, adultery and betrayal, and of second chances, hope and joy. Enjoy!

06 Jan 2020#146 Joey Castillo (The Bronx/Zakk Sabbath/Danzig/Queens Of The Stone Age)01:05:50

Joey C's in the house! Joey's been a dream guest of Matt's for a while now, and he doesn't do a lot of interviews, so it's an honour to have him on Life In The Stocks. Not only is Joey one of the coolest human beings you'll ever meet, he's also an absolute beast of a drummer and has played with everyone from Danzig & Queens Of The Stone Age to The Bronx, Zakk Sabbath and beyond. We covered as much as we could in this interview, but Joey will definitely be back for a Part Two when Matt heads out on tour with Zakk Sabbath in February.

Today is the one year anniversary of Keith Flint's passing and it seems like a fitting tribute to the late Prodigy frontman, as the main thread of this conversation is mental health, depression, addiction and alcoholism. Thanks to this week's guest, Dave McPherson from the British rock band InMe, for opening up and talking so candidly about his own personal struggles. Their new album 'Jumpstart Hope' explores and is informed by many of the themes discussed here and is available now on Killing Moon Records.

05 Jun 2019#107 Stephen Hill (Journalist/Presenter)01:41:46

Matt's former Team Rock coconspirator Stephen Hill is this week's guest on Life In The Stocks. You may have heard him already on a couple of the Life In The Stocks bonus Patreon podcasts. The Metal Hammer writer and host of the Riot Act podcast joins us here to discuss his short lived comedy career, his break in the music industry, the Metal Hammer podcast, Team Rock and his tenure as the Breakfast Show presenter on Team Rock Radio, the That's Not Metal podcast, and his reasons for leaving that project behind to start his latest venture Riot Act with co-host and fellow music journalist Remfry Dedman. Things get deep and personal towards the end as well, so expect a few tears.

Even if you don't know who Steve is, it's impossible not to be moved by his story, and this week's episode of the podcast ranks amongst the very best of Life In The Stocks.

This week's guest on Life In The Stocks is the best kept secret in rock 'n' roll: Mr. Michael Monroe. After Hanoi split in 1985, Michael began a solo career that's still going strong three decades later, and over the years he's forged lifelong friendships with a who's who of rock royalty: Alice Cooper, Steven Tyler, Axl Rose, Slash, Lemmy, Dave Grohl, Steven Van Zandt, Ian Hunter, Johnny Thunders, Stiv Bators & Ginger Wildheart...the list is endless, making this an extra special episode with a bonafide rock 'n' roll legend!

10 Apr 2018#051 Joe Cardamone (The Icarus Line/Solo)01:15:56

This week's guest on Life In The Stocks is solo artist & performer Joe Cardamone, formerly of The Icarus Line. The topic of death comes up a lot, from the death of David Bowie and the effect that his passing had on the musical community to the passing of Scott Weiland (Joe was actually on the tour that Weiland died on) and the tragic death of Joe's longtime friend & collaborator Alvin DeGuzman, which was still fresh on Joe's mind at this point. It's heavy duty stuff, but also very inspiring. Thank you to Joe for sharing his story.

24 Aug 2020#176 Ralph D'Amato (Tony Hawk's Pro Skater)00:55:38

If you grew up playing the Tony Hawk's video games then you are going to love this week's episode - it'll be a proper trip down memory lane. Matt's guest for Episode 176 of Life In The Stocks is Ralph D'Amato, producer of the first eight Tony Hawk's video games, and also producer of the new feature length documentary film about the franchise, Pretending I'm A Superman, which is live now on all major streaming sites and available to watch on Amazon Prime. In his conversation with Matt, Ralph talks all about the history of the games, working with Tony Hawk, the cultural impact of the games, the legendary soundtracks, the cast of characters, including the Birdman, Steve Caballero, and Rodney Mullen, and the new documentary about the games.

04 Aug 2020#174 Will Gould (Creeper)01:05:10

This week's episode of Life In The Stocks is a deep dive with Will Gould from Creeper. The frontman spoke to Matt in detail about the creation of and inspiration behind Creeper's new album, Sex, Death & the Infinite Void. It's an insightful, enlightening, and inspiring conversation with one of the most enigmatic singers in modern UK rock. Hope you enjoy!

18 Dec 2018#084 Matthew Pritchard (Dirty Sanchez/Dirty Vegan)00:58:19

On Wednesday December 19th at 10:40pm, Matt Pritchard's new documentary film Wild Man to Ironman aired on BBC Wales. Seeing as how Pritch is an old friend of Life In The Stocks, and his original episode is still the highest ranking episode in the podcast's history, it seemed only right that we got him back on the show to talk about his documentary and his brand new vegan cookbook & cooking show. Tidy.

26 Jul 2021#228 Yelawolf (Rapper/Entrepreneur) 01:01:48

Rapper & entrepreneur Yelawolf is one of the most prolific people in show business. Aside from his music, he owns his own record label, clothing label & whiskey company. And he put out four records in April of this year alone. We had a great chat about breaking out in the business, hustling & grinding, the reaction of the rock & hop hop communities to Yelawolf's music, his friendships & creatives partnerships with the likes of Everlast, Eminem, Kid Rock, Killer Mike, Shooter Jennings, Travis Barker, DJ Muggs & DJ Paul, and trying to find the right balance between the work life, the party side of things, and raising a family. It's a great talk!

26 Jul 2021#230 Rou Reynolds (Enter Shikari)01:11:39

Episode 230 of Life In The Stocks features a long overdue first appearance of my old pal Rou Reynolds on the podcast. The Enter Shikari frontman and published author joins me for an in-depth discussion about his incredible new book, A Treatise on Possibility, which is one of the most well researched and thorough books I've ever read - especially from a musician. It's definitely for the deep thinkers, but if you've found yourself questioning the very nature of human existence during this pandemic period - why are we here, what happened to lead us to this point, and where do we go from here - then Rou's book is an essential addition to your library. Apologies for taking so long to get you on the podcast Roughton, but it was well worth the wait for this chat.

30 Jul 2021#232 Sean Yseult (White Zombie/Famous Monsters/Photographer)01:14:27

I'm joined for this special episode of Life In The Stocks by musician, photographer & graphic designer Sean Yseult. The original White Zombie bassist doesn't do a lot of podcasts, so it was an honour and a joy to welcome her onto the show. We had a lovely chat about her time in White Zombie, her amazing book I'm In The Band, New Orleans, New York, Beavis & Butthead, our mutual friend Michael Alago, and some wild nights during the nineties with the likes of Johnny Depp, Timothy Leary, Gibby Haynes & Al Jourgensen.

30 Jul 2021#233 Keith Morris (Black Flag/Circle Jerks/Off!)01:48:40

Keith Morris is a real punk rock original. The Black Flag, Circle Jerks & Off! frontman was right there for the birth of west coast punk, and we get into the whole history of it here in Episode 233 of Life In The Stocks. We discuss the early days of Black Flag, The Decline of the Western Civilisation, Repo Man, playing golf with Harry Dean Stanton, his friendship with Jeffrey Lee Pierce from The Gun Club, the Circle Jerks then & now, Off! and the new album & film that the band is working on, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Keith's incredible but albeit short-lived side project Midget Handjob, and his amazing book Story of a Punk Rock Survivor.

30 Jul 2021#234 Ben Weasel (Screeching Weasel) 01:42:21

Episode 234 of Life In The Stocks features Ben Weasel from Screeching Weasel. Ben is somewhat of a divisive figure in the punk rock community, but very few outlets or platforms seem to have given him the chance to tell his side of the story following the incident at SXSW in Austin, Texas in 2011. So I thought it was about time I invited him on to my podcast to set the record straight. And we ended up having a super in-depth, interesting & insightful conversation that covered everything from cancel culture & wokism to racism, politics & socio-economics, comedy & censorship, controversy, redemption, parenthood, and a whole lot more. Forget about what you think you know about Ben Weasel. Go into this podcast with an open mind, and see how you feel at the end. If you're not familiar with his band either, Screeching Weasel are one of the most influential pop punk bands of all-time. They are well worthy of your time - if you like that kind of music, there are very few who do it better.

30 Jul 2021#235 John Joseph (Cro-Mags/Bloodclot/Author)01:21:25

Life In The Stocks Episode 235 features the one and only John Joseph from Cro-Mags, Bloodclot, and now a multi-published author with FIVE books to his name. We had a great conversation, too. We talk about how adversity builds character, the PMA effect, spirituality, endurance, addiction & recovery, and John shares lots of old New York stories and tales of running wild as a kid, freebasing, robbing drug dealers, and ultimately getting clean & sober. It's a great talk that's guaranteed to entertain & inspire.

14 Oct 2021#237 Paul Cook (Sex Pistols/The Professionals)00:37:57

I figured we'd relaunch the show with two episodes seeing as how we've been away for two months. And what better way to reintroduce Life In The Stocks to the world of podcasting than with a conversation with a bonafide punk rock legend: Paul Cook from Sex Pistols & The Professionals. Paul is a lovely man and we had wonderful conversation about his life and times in the aforementioned bands. The new album by The Professionals is called SNAFU and it's out now. And you can catch the band on tour all over the U.K. throughout October. Tickets can be purchased via theprofessionalsband.com

17 Oct 2021#238 Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains/Solo)00:53:17

This one has been on the cards for a while - at least in my mind! Alice In Chains head honcho Jerry Cantrell has been a dream guest of mine since I launched Life In The Stocks in 2017, and it's an honour to finally have him on the show. The only other podcast Jerry's done before this one is Let There Be Talk with Dean Delray - which, coincidentally, is the one of only two podcasts that I regularly listen to, the other being WTF with Marc Maron. So that makes this appearance on Life In The Stocks extra special. We talk all about Seattle and coming up in that scene with *those bands, we discuss working on movies like The Cable Guy and Jerry Maguire, playing with Duff McKagan, Jerry's love of blues and country music, his relationship with William DuVall, his admiration for Mike Patton, and his three incredible solo albums, Boggy Depot, Degradation Trip, and Brighten - out October 29th. Thanks to Jerry for coming on the show. I hope we can do another one in person someday.
