Dream Nails are Matt's favourite new UK punk band, and their singer Janey Starling has been someone he wanted on the podcast for a while. She's smart, informed, outspoken, engaging, passionate, funny, articulate - and one hell of a front woman. Dream Nails also happen to be one of the most exciting and important upcoming UK bands around. And with a lot going on in the world right now, it seemed like the perfect time to get Janey on the show. Unsurprisingly, we had an awful lot to talk about, too. Steven Van Zandt is a renowned musician, actor & broadcaster most celebrated as Bruce Springsteen's guitarist and right hand man in the E Street Band, as well as for his role as Silvio Dante in The Sopranos. He's also a successful songwriter, arranger, producer and solo artist in his own right, and host of Little Steven's Underground Garage - a weekly syndicated radio show that champions garage rock from the 1950s to the present day. Flogging Molly frontman Dave King is Matt's guest for Episode 195 of Life In The Stocks. This week's guest on Life In The Stocks is solo artist & performer Joe Cardamone, formerly of The Icarus Line. The topic of death comes up a lot, from the death of David Bowie and the effect that his passing had on the musical community to the passing of Scott Weiland (Joe was actually on the tour that Weiland died on) and the tragic death of Joe's longtime friend & collaborator Alvin DeGuzman, which was still fresh on Joe's mind at this point. I figured we'd relaunch the show with two episodes seeing as how we've been away for two months. And what better way to reintroduce Life In The Stocks to the world of podcasting than with a conversation with a bonafide punk rock legend: Paul Cook from Sex Pistols & The Professionals. This one has been on the cards for a while - at least in my mind! Alice In Chains head honcho Jerry Cantrell has been a dream guest of mine since I launched Life In The Stocks in 2017, and it's an honour to finally have him on the show. The only other podcast Jerry's done before this one is Let There Be Talk with Dean Delray - which, coincidentally, is the one of only two podcasts that I regularly listen to, the other being WTF with Marc Maron. So that makes this appearance on Life In The Stocks extra special. We talk all about Seattle and coming up in that scene with *those bands, we discuss working on movies like The Cable Guy and Jerry Maguire, playing with Duff McKagan, Jerry's love of blues and country music, his relationship with William DuVall, his admiration for Mike Patton, and his three incredible solo albums, Boggy Depot, Degradation Trip, and Brighten - out October 29th. Thanks to Jerry for coming on the show. I hope we can do another one in person someday.
