21 Nov 202312-"I Will Be Their Voice Today"' Project Bat Bridge and the case of Michael Roberts 00:35:42

In one of Libertas Internationals most successful cases, Tyler details what lead to Project Bat Bridge and how the bravery of a young survivor lead to federal prosecution of a violent pedophile from Round Rock, Texas.

Michael Roberts was a school teacher teaching at an all girls school in Austin, Texas. And every chance he could, he would travel to Colombia to rape and exploit three young girls.

The brave survivor in this story memorizes a phone number to call for help, speaks in federal court and in front of federal agents, and reaches out in friendship to another survivor from her school that starts an international case vs. another American pedophile.

16 Dec 202316-"It Takes A Network to Fight a Network" feat. Walt, Director of Operations for the Children's International Rescue Foundation. 00:44:55

We are happy to welcome back The Children's International Rescue Foundation to the Podcast! This time we are joined by one of the co-founders of the group, Walt. He also serves at the director of operations.

Walt details his journey working undercover, why relationships are so vital, some what real undercover investigations look like vs. how they may be portrayed on other media outlets. This conversation is vital as there is much confusion and misrepresentation on undercover work in general.

Walt is a highly skilled investigator dedicated to combating transnational criminal organizations involved in child trafficking. His expertise encompasses investigative fieldwork, hostage rescue, fugitive apprehension, and small unit leadership. Walt has had the privilege of briefing Vice Presidents of Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, as well as U.S. Ambassador Popp on behalf of NGOs fighting human trafficking in the Northern Triangle. He has also conducted extensive ground investigations in Colombia and Ecuador, collaborating with National Police agencies to infiltrate criminal networks. In 2021, Walt played a pivotal role in an award-winning Colombian human trafficking investigation.

Throughout his career, Walt has held positions such as S.W.A.T Master Operator, U.S. Marshal Service Task Force Officer, Police Sergeant, and U.S. Marine Corps Platoon Sergeant. Walt emphasizes the importance of continuous training, operational planning, and international partnerships between law enforcement, financial institutions, and NGOs in combating the human trafficking crisis in Latin America. Walt's language abilities in Spanish and Portuguese, along with his cross-cultural experiences, including a two-year Christian mission in Brazil and teaching the English Connect program in Ecuador, further enrich his perspective. Above all, Walt considers his greatest success to be his enduring marriage of over 20 years and the joy of raising children with his wife.

23 Mar 202429-Helping Families Find Hope, Justice, and Healing"- Utah Homicide Survivors with Brandon Merrill 00:53:00

Libertas International is proud to have Brandon Merrill, the founder of Utah Homicide Survivors, a nonprofit based in Provo, Utah that serves surviving families of homicide victims.

Under Brandon's leadership, UHS has grown to become a leading advocate for homicide survivors in Utah, offering a wide range of services to help families navigate the aftermath of tragedy. With years of experience working in the field of victim services, Brandon is dedicated to helping survivors heal and find justice. His passion for helping others and his commitment to making a difference in the lives of those affected by homicide are a driving force behind the success of Utah Homicide Survivors.

Brandon graduated from Utah Valley University in 2013, with a degree in International Politics. He moved to Vermont to attend Vermont Law School and study environmental law later that year. After taking his first environmental law class he decided that it wasn't the path for him. In order to graduate from law school he found an internship with the Never Again Foundation in Arizona, which sadly closed their doors in 2019. This organization taught him the importance of legal services for families of homicide victims and how to navigate the family through the numerous civil legal processes. After graduating from Vermont Law School in January 2016, Brandon worked as a divorce and custody mediator and a money laundering analyst while also continuing to volunteer for the Never Again Foundation. In August 2017, he took a staff position with the Never Again Foundation. In 2018, Brandon and his wife Karleigh moved to Utah to open a Utah chapter of the Never Again Foundation. In early 2019 the Never Again Foundation was hit hard with financial troubles and had to close their door permanently in March 2019. Brandon did not want to see the gap for homicide survivors re-open so he started Utah Homicide Survivors that same month where he serves as the Founder and Executive Director.

Brandon details how he got started in this work, how he keeps himself sane in the work that he does and what are the factors that can lead to homicide.

Here is an event that Brandon puts on every year that honors victims of homicide-https://ksltv.com/589460/families-of-utah-homicide-victims-gather-to-support-each-other-for-national-day-of-remembrance/

30 May 202436-The Case of Hiemrich Gilreb and Project Red Dawn00:15:59

Welcome back to another episode of the Libertas International Podcast!

This week Tyler talks about the case involving German man Hiemrich Gilreb, who was sexually exploiting two survivors from Haiti in his home.

This case details a number of concepts that are important to discuss. Immigration and how those seeking refuge are often targets of predators due to their lack of documentation.

It also talks about the island that houses Dominican Republic and Haiti, and their connection and ongoing struggle to coexist with each other.

And details the presence of foreigners once again that move to a developing country and exploit the most vulnerable.

29 Aug 202443-Facing Evil and Working with Law Enforcement with Steve Murphy, Former DEA and Subject of the Hit Netflix Series "Narcos" 01:21:05

We are honored to welcome DEA Agent Steve Murphy to the Libertas International Podcast!

Steve Murphy is a retired DEA agent renowned for his pivotal role in the pursuit and eventual capture of the infamous Colombian drug lord, Pablo Escobar. Born in the United States, Murphy joined the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in the 1980s and was stationed in Colombia during the height of Escobar's reign of terror. Alongside his partner, Javier Peña, Murphy worked tirelessly to dismantle Escobar's Medellín Cartel, which was responsible for a significant portion of the cocaine trafficked into the United States during that era.

Murphy's efforts, often at great personal risk, contributed significantly to the DEA's operations in Colombia and the eventual downfall of Escobar in 1993. His experiences during this tumultuous period were later dramatized in the popular Netflix series "Narcos," where actor Boyd Holbrook portrayed him.

Following his retirement from the DEA, Murphy has become a public speaker, sharing his experiences and insights on law enforcement, international drug trafficking, and the challenges of combating organized crime. He also co-authored a book titled "Manhunters: How We Took Down Pablo Escobar," which provides a detailed account of his and Peña's roles in the high-stakes operation against the Medellín Cartel.

Steve joins the podcast to talk about the search for Pablo Escobar but also to talk about working with law enforcement in a different country and how to avoid the appearance of the "ugly" American. He also talks about how to stay brave in the fight vs. evil in the modern day as he did when he was facing one of the most evil men that has ever walked the earth.
