03 Jul 2023Hannah Mayderry: "Talking About Emotions is My Favorite Thing to Do"00:33:32

Some researchers have found that emotions account for up to 90% of decision-making, so it's essential to know how they impact the choices we make every day, according to Medium.

Hannah Mayderry is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida. I earned a BA (Bachelor of Arts) degree in Psychology and Cultural Anthropology while living in Southern California. I then moved home to Florida to earn an ME.d. (Master of Arts in Education) as well as an Ed.S. (Education Specialist) degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Florida. During the completion of my education, I had the opportunity to work within a variety of mental health settings, including local schools, inpatient treatment centers, and non-profit organizations, before transitioning into private practice. Growing up, I was always told I was "too emotional" or "too sensitive." I didn't know how it was possible to ignore emotions, because I felt them so deeply. What I used to consider a weakness, I now understand to be my greatest strength. I have the honor of helping people give language to their own emotions so that they are able to identify and progress towards what they want, while confidently saying no to the things they do not. I am an LGBTQ+ friendly therapist specializing in self-esteem, anxiety, couples counseling, and religious trauma. My passion for these topics comes from my own experience of releasing that which was outside of my control, in order to direct my energy towards elements of life within my control. I view therapy as the process of working towards self-empowerment, in the midst of an unpredictable world.  She joined me this week to tell me more.

09 Jul 2022Advocating For Healthcare Equity For the Vulnerable with: Jean Drummond00:23:54

What does $400.00 and your mother’s credit card have in common? For Jean Drummond it was the beginning of making an impactful and meaningful difference in the field of healthcare. Coming from a long line of “fem-trepreneurs” in her family—both her mother and grandmother owned their own businesses—Jean was surrounded by powerful role models that would later inspire her to begin her own healthcare policy business.

She graduated from Howard State University as a Physician’s Assistant where she witnessed the impact of health inequities daily. This became her driving motivator, and she soon found herself advocating for the vulnerable populations she served.

This included running a PR campaign to prevent the closure of a minority-oriented healthcare program. She knew that she was being called to a higher purpose and wanted to advance her community in meaningful ways. All her experiences led her to establish Healthcare Dynamics International, a national quality improvement and population health firm that has been recognized by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for its achievements as a prime contractor. From one employee with $400.00 and her mother’s credit card, HCD International has grown to a thriving business with over 200 employees from 20 different countries that speak 23 unique languages.

During the global COVID-19 pandemic, Jean has remained fearlessly committed to quality healthcare and health equity for all, especially the most vulnerable. Supporting health partners and agencies, HCDI has helped to provide over 59,000 vaccinations to local communities, administered over 15,000 COVID-19 tests, and supported the contact tracing effort, leading to over 250,000 closed cases.

03 Aug 2022Changing Your Entire Mindset About Food with: Brian Keane00:40:05

As a global population we must move more to live healthier lives. The Guardian reports: There is an urgent need to get people moving, according to research by the World Health Organisation which warns that a quarter of the global population, and more in wealthy countries, are becoming less and less active, damaging their physical and mental health.

Around 1.4 billion adults are not physically active enough to stay healthy, says the research. One in three women and one in four men do not take enough exercise or move about enough, too often sitting at desks all day at work, in front of the TV in the evening and travelling by car.

Brian Keane, known as Brian Keane Fitness, online is a Reps qualified Level 3 Personal Trainer, certified Strength and Conditioning Coach and Sports Nutritionist.
Over the past seven years, he has gone from working full time as a primary school teacher to one of Ireland’s leading thought leaders on all things health, fitness and nutrition.

He has had mainstream features everywhere from the UK and Irish Daily Mail, Star and Mirror to Men’s and Women’s Health Magazine.

On top of his ever growing social media platforms which have a combined total of well over a quarter of a million followers, he also hosts one of Ireland and the UK’s top health podcast which is regularly featured #1 on the iTunes Health Charts.

Brian’s online fitness programs have over a thousand graduates every single year. In his programs, he helps people reach their weight loss, fitness or body composition goal by giving them sustainable fitness programs alongside changing their entire mindset when it comes to food. Brian isn’t a calorie in, calories out nutritional coach, nor is he a low carb, vegan, or paleo advocate. His philosophy is all about finding a nutritional plan that works for you as an individual and showing that your mindset around nutrition is more important than the actual diet plan you are on.

In the summer of 2017, Brian published his first book The Fitness Mindset which spent 16 weeks on the Amazon best seller list. In December 2019, he published his second-best selling book Rewire Your Mindset

07 Jun 2022Awareness Is The Starting Point of Everything in Business with Nick Davies00:26:24

National Mentoring Day reported 67% of businesses reported an increase in productivity due to mentoring. 55% of businesses felt that mentoring had a positive impact on their PROFITS. Employees who received mentoring were promoted five times more often than those who didn't have mentors. As a super-passionate life performance and business coach, Nick Davies believes to live life to the fullest or even just to start to be happy, we have to put the work in every day. That means committing to gathering support around us, taking in content that supports us, creating rituals that are non-negotiable, having a high standard for delivery and always taking it to the next level!
Davies   shares super actionable insights from his (high value) coaching practice with entrepreneurs and business professionals. He tells a lot of stories and anecdotes about how to sort out your own mental state to get clarity on what needs to happen next, for his clients to achieve the next level of success they are after.

“My clients are typically already very successful, high-achiever types. When they want to improve, it is about improving maybe by 0.1%, but this small improvement will have a massive impact, since they are already to so far up on the success ladder.

Figuring out how to do this, is my specialty as a life-performance and business coach.” He joined me this week to tell me more.

16 Oct 2023Your Health is the Foundation For Everything with: Barry Karch00:38:09

As we age are physical capabilities naturally diminish.  However, that doesn't mean we cannot live a proactive lifestyle while the natural process of aging occurs. The National Council on Aging reports:

Today's older Americans are healthier overall and living independently for longer. However, most older people have at least one chronic health condition, and many are dealing with multiple health issues. In 2020, the top chronic condition among adults age 65+ was arthritis (47%), followed by:

·         Any cancer (26%)

·         Diagnosed diabetes (21%)

·         COPD, emphysema, or chronic bronchitis (11%)

·         Coronary heart disease (14%)

·         Myocardial infarction (9%)

·         Angina (4%)

With this information now in your back pocket I want to share the story of Barry Karch with you.

“I was an avid runner when I was around 40 years old. I competed in lots of races, from 1 mile to marathons - but I got burned out. I stopped racing for 20 years and put on 35 pounds. I kept asking myself when I was going to do something about the weight, but was never motivated enough to take action.

Finally, when I hit my 60s, I told myself, "It's now or never." I finally did something about the weight. I changed my diet and took off all 35 pounds - then an unexpected thing happened - I rediscovered my joy of running. I now love it more than ever!

My mission is to inspire and motivate people to run to live a long and healthy life and outrun Father Time.” He joined me this week to tell me more.

24 Feb 2023Become Unbreakable with: Bryan Scudiere00:49:20

About 42% of U.S. adults reported undesired weight gain in the first year of the pandemic, with 29 pounds gained on average, a recent survey shows. There is a path to improved health through weight loss, and it starts by identifying the factors that led to weight gain.  According to Orlando health. For  Bryan Scudiere: “Unlike most men, I didn't have the traditional route. I dropped out of college at 20 to pursue sales and entrepreneurship.

And I gained my "degree" from years of failure.

After having risen to the top of a huge 70+ year old company I found myself exhausted, depressed, anxious, and seeking more.

This caused me to drink, take copious amounts of drugs, and party like you couldn't believe. All accompanied by the rise of dating apps - so I naturally gravitate to womanizing.

I was a real piece of shit. but I thought I was cool, because I was making a lot of money.

Eventually I met my wife by chance, literally after the second date I deleted all the apps and knew I'd marry her.

This was the start of my journey into finding fulfillment through commitment.

Later, my wife took a picture of me the day before I was about to be crowned the top dog in my sales company at the Year End Celebration banquet.. and I realized that I had put on 40+lbs in 2 years.

This shook me to my core, and I immediately got to work. After trying everything and yo-yo-ing for the first two years I finally dialed in and truly committed. Again finding fulfillment.

in 2020, I lost everything. all my financial security, and fell into the deepest hole I had ever been in. I had to reinvent myself. The only thing I could grasp onto as a foundation was my fitness. So I was working out in a musty parking garage with a jump rope, two dumbbells, and running.

I realized how much I could build who I am as a man through fitness. How much I could challenge myself, and how much o an allegory it can be to finding self discipline and respect.

I read it all, studying every night, finding all the different modalities. Eventually I figured it out. Cracked the code even. And found myself leveraging morning routines of cold exposure, hard exercise, and quality but disciplined eating as the basis of how I made all my decisions.

I stopped thinking about the aesthetics, and I started using the same principles in every area of my life. Leaning in during uncomfortable conversations with my wife.. that drew us closer.

Being the unbreakable rock for my wife during the first 8 weeks of the new born phase.

rebuilding my financial situation from the scratch.

Everything.

I've since coached over 50 men in just 18 months into the best shape of their lives and help them rebuild and shift their identity using fitness as a cornerstone habit.” He joined me this week to tell me more.

24 Jul 2023A Conversation about racialized Children, Disabilities, and Inclusion00:47:49

Carving a pathway of inclusion means that the promise of possibilities are realized by many and the diversity of thought is celebrated as a strength.  However, for children with disabilities, and racialized children this pathway towards inclusion and acceptance isn’t always realized as easy as we all might hope. Therefore, in the 5th and final episode of Inclusive Beginnings  we’ll take a deeper dive and a closer look at the experience of racialized children and their fight for educational excellence and equality.  Contributing their voices to this conversation are  Negin Zarifian and Kathryn Underwood. Zarifian is a Professional Learning Consultant Affiliated Services For Children and Youth (ASCY) and Kathryn serves as the project director for the IECSS project at large and a Professor, School of Early Childhood Studies Dimensions Faculty Lead, Faculty of Community Services  at Toronto Metropolitan University. Our discussion centered around the experiences of black and racialized children and their families as they work to navigate the educational system and furthermore how their lives may look beyond their time within the school system.

08 Jun 2023Can America Find It's Common Ground Again? with: Rick Walker00:56:00

Americans are in a negative mood about the current state of the country, with large majorities expressing dissatisfaction with the economy and overall national conditions. And when they look toward the not-too-distant future, they see a country that in many respects will be worse than it is today, according to a new Pew Research Center survey.

Views of specific problems have also become more negative over the past five years. For each of the four items included in the new survey, Americans today are about 10 percentage points more likely to offer a negative prediction than they were when asked to think about the year 2050 in a separate survey conducted by the Center in 2018. For example, 77% of Americans now expect the nation to be more politically divided in 2050 – up from 65% who made that prediction five years ago.  One man who may have some interesting viewpoints on this discussion is Rick Walker. He’s  a proven leader across multiple domains – business, global politics and philanthropy. He can meet people  where they are by discussing a variety of highly complex topics and simplifying them into succinct messages for broad understanding.  His experience includes 20+ years of being a CEO scaling a company to over 400 employees and a non-profit to over 2,300 people, as well as being a former Congressional Candidate. Rick can provide inside ib: - Lessons from Rick's Conversations with the World's Most Power Leaders: A President, US Senators, Congressmen and Billionaires - How Rick built his first company to 400 employees in his 20's, scaled a global non-profit to 2,000+ team members in his 30's and now look to give back in his 40's.  He joined me this week to tell me more on how America can re-establish a common ground of understanding.

17 Aug 2022Examining the Black Experience with Reggie Johnson00:29:03

Black Americans' self-reports of being treated unfairly in a variety of situations are generally steady or higher rather than declining. This includes a new high of 35% who say they personally were treated unfairly while shopping during the past 30 days, up from 24% last year. In five other situations, reports of recent unfair treatment are similar to a year ago and range from 17% to 21%.

In general, Black Americans are no less likely to report being treated unfairly in any of the five situations now than they were when Gallup first asked the items in 1997. The healthcare item was first asked in 2004.

Reggie Johnson used to do a show on the radio on Star 92.3 in Mississippi named Tech Talk which was about tech info. In 2016 after moving back to Atlanta he wanted to get back into radio but a friend of his suggested he start a podcast instead. Fast forward to 2018 and he finally did. He does a show named "Reg in ATL" and a sports show named "Just the Stats" with his co-host Eugene Morton. He’s been doing it consistently every week.  He joined me this week, to have an in-depth conversation about the black experience in America. 26 Jul 2024Protecting Your Family’s Legal and Cybersecurity Rights with: Jonathan Steele00:29:42

It is important to have a lawyer assist with a separation agreement to safeguard your legal rights, including the right to honest financial disclosure from the other party. Most couples choose a no-fault divorce, which allows them to end their marriage without proving any wrongdoing. However, factors such as career choices, parenting differences, division of household labor, relationships with family and friends, finances, and health choices can still lead to conflict. According to a Forbes Advisor survey, the most significant conflicts for divorced couples were career choices (46%) and parenting differences (43%).

Jonathan D. Steele has had a successful legal career, starting at Nadler, Pritikin & Mirabelli LLC, and later moving to Beermann LLP. He has also been designated as an Emerging Lawyer by Leading Lawyers magazine, an accolade given to fewer than 2% of Illinois attorneys annually. This recognition underscores his expertise in family law and his exceptional professional achievement. In addition to his courtroom successes, Jonathan possesses a strong understanding of the Illinois Supreme Court rules and the Rules of Civil Procedure, as well as technical proficiency in legal practice that equips him to handle complex legal challenges. His areas of expertise include advanced trial advocacy, a deep understanding of the rules of evidence, and specialized knowledge in the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act, Domestic Violence Act, and the Stalking No Contact Order Act. Jonathan places a high priority on the privacy and security of his clients, integrating cutting-edge digital protection strategies to safeguard sensitive information—a critical asset in today’s interconnected world. Outside the courtroom, Jonathan is committed to community service, offering pro bono legal aid through JUF Community Legal Services and contributing to medical research initiatives as a board member of the Medical Research Junior Board Foundation at Ann & Robert H. 08 Sep 2023Preserving Wealth Through Real Estate with: James Brown00:39:11

The Federal Reserve reports Housing wealth is about one half of total household net worth which is $52.9 trillion, and is larger than the Gross Domestic Product $14.4 trillion.

James Brown is a real estate investor, coach, instructor, author and adrenaline sport junkie from Alaska.  He is an expert in building, and preserving, wealth through real estate. My favorite way is through lease-options because there are wins for everyone involved. My favorite win is that we are helping people get into home ownership that have lost hope. At the same time, we are helping regular people become investors like the big hedge funds do. The people that we work with are typically busy professionals and folks that want to maximize their retirement funds without putting them at risk in investments outside, or inside, real estate. Safety, security, consistent predictable long term cash flow, tax benefits and capital growth are the primary reasons our team has focused on this for the last 40 years. I am the Co-Founder of Real Home Solutions, Realtor, Investor, Creative Financing Coach, DORA Continuing Education Instructor, Author of Hybrid Real Estate Investing and contributing author to two editions of The Guide To Colorado Real Estate Investing Strategies, Host of "This Month In Real Estate Investing" Show, Creative Financing Meetup Host.  He joined me this week to tell me more.

11 Jul 2023Stop the Testing Headaches with: Jay Aigner00:36:57

According to research by Development Academy, a staggering 82% of people don't use any time management system. Bear in mind that a simple to-do or a to-don't list is not a proper system due to the lack of complexity and prioritization of tasks. Still, 33% reported relying on simple to-do lists to manage their work.

Jay Aigner, is the  CEO of JDAQA a software testing agency with around $2M ARR. Father of 5, student pilot, and amateur Astro photographer. My 5 for 5 (5 am wakeup, workout, stretch, madidate, and journal) has been something friends, family members, and fans of my podcast have keyed on as something they really appreciate.
I also host a podcast called The First Customer where I interview successful founders about how they got their first customer.
He had his first kid at 19, in college, 1000 miles from home. I graduated, got a job in my dream industry and worked the 9-5 grind for years.
Eventually a new challenge presented itself ... get my wife out of working as an overnight long-term pediatric nurse. I applied for Uber and was turned down (my license was from another state than I currently lived). Luckily I stumbled across Upwork (Elance.com at the time) and applied for consulting gigs.

Fast-forward a few years later, I've grown my company from a one man software testing consultancy based on my 9-5 experience to a 7-figure testing agency powerhouse with 60+ employees. I'm a father of 5, amateur Astro photographer, student pilot, hockey player, and podcast host.

My 5 for 5 (5am wakeup, workout, full body stretch, mediation, and journaling) is my foundation for kicking ass.
He is someone who went from 9-5, to consulting to the freedom of running my own business. My family is also currently being featured in a documentary about time management and how successful people spend it. He joined me this week to tell me more.

10 Nov 2023Creating Innovative, Diverse, and Sustainable Talent Pipelines with: Julius Richardson00:38:39

The motivation and momentum to go to work are closely correlated to maximizing the potential out of the people you hire.

A closer look at what has happened to the labor force can be better described as ‘The Great Reshuffle, according to the US Chamber of Commerce.

If the labor force participation rate were at the February 2020 level, we would have an additional 1.47 million people in the workforce as of September 2023 — and this shortage is impacting all industries in nearly every state. Even if every unemployed worker were to fill an open job within their respective industry, there would still be millions of unfilled job positions, highlighting the widespread labor shortage.

With decades of experience in developing talent acquisition strategies and leadership development, Julius Richardson, has successfully created innovative, diverse, and sustainable talent pipelines. This has resulted in industry recognition and the achievement of organizational goals, establishing the business as the employer of choice. Richardson currently serves as the CEO of SunRise Talent Solutions, LLC, an RPO staffing firm that provides innovative and sustainable talent strategies while reducing administrative costs. From identifying the next generation of Marines to the next generation of workforce leaders.  He joined me this week to tell me more about how we can take an innovative and inclusive approach to hiring and retaining a diverse and sustainable talent pipeline.

Nick Bracks is a storyteller who has dedicated his adult life to creating positive conversations around mental health.

04 Mar 2023Helping Leaders Create Stigma Free Mental Wellbeing Workplace Cultures with: Adam Nemer00:43:06

In a 2021 American Psychological Association survey, nearly 3 in 5 employees (59%) said they have experienced negative impacts of work-related stress in the past month, and a vast majority (87%) of employees think actions from their employer would help their mental health. For Adam Nemer a Mental Health Leadership Consultant After a 20 year leadership career in Healthcare, mostly as a CFO and Sr Operations Executive, I've launched Simple Mental Health Leadership Consulting (www.simplementalhealth.com). Our purpose is to help leaders create stigma-free mental wellbeing workplace cultures. We do that by putting mental health literacy in their leadership toolboxes right next to marketing, finance, sales, and all the other skills they acquire over our careers. Our mission is simple: help organizations improve employee retention, performance, engagement and happiness by facilitating the creation of mental health literate leaders and psychologically safe organizations.

At least 20% of American's every year experience a clinically diagnosable mental illness that pains the individual and impacts the performance of organizations just as much as any physical illness. While stigma still prevents most people from getting care, awareness of mental illness in the workplace has grown significantly post-pandemic. So much that the US Surgeon General has identified "Workplace Wellness" as one of the top 5 population health priorities for the country and 81% of workers report that they will be looking for workplaces that support mental health in the future.

However, all the way from senior leaders to line supervisors, leaders don't know what to do. Their education and training was informed by the myths and stigmas of mental illness. (eg: "Leave your emotions at the door.") Widely adopted workplace wellness investments aren't "righting the ship." They're strategies bumping up against traditional organizational cultures. That's where we come in. We teach you what to do.

We partner with you to incubate compassionate leaders who understand the connections between their leadership approach, their colleague’s mental wellbeing, and core business metrics such as turnover, attendance, productivity, employee engagement and team dynamic. Leaders committed to creating psychologically safety among their teams. Leaders who don't see their teammates as employees or colleagues who are supposed to leave their emotions at the door, but as people who can’t be separated from their feelings. 05 Jan 2023Sally Norton: “My Favorite Health Foods Were Actually Making Me Sick!”00:38:36

Most people get between 200 and 300 milligrams of oxalates daily. If you're at risk for kidney stones, sources suggest getting less than 100 milligrams a day. Doctors may also recommend “low-oxalate diets” of less than 50 milligrams daily for some people, WebMD reports.

“My favorite health foods were actually making me sick!” -ONE WOMAN’S BATTLE (& RECOVERY)
FROM OXALATE OVERLOAD-

Sally K. Norton should have been the picture of health. She exercised regularly; did yoga; and ate a well-researched diet chock full of wholesome, nutritious foods. She even had an ivy league degree in nutrition.

…But her health was far from fabulous. She suffered from several physical and cognitive impairments including chronic fatigue, joint pain, and a severe sleep disorder. Doctors couldn't figure out why someone so young and “healthy” could be so unwell.

Sally never imagined that her health problems could be related to her beloved health foods. After her career in health research and medical education ended due to her worsening condition, Sally finally connected the dots and recovered her health by lowering her oxalate intake.

“My favorite health foods (sweet potatoes and swiss chard) were making me sick all along! I had oxalate overload,” says Norton. “Many superfoods are high in oxalic acid, an organic compound which has been linked to numerous mental and physical health problems.”

Sally’s story is not unique. “Oxalate Overload” is a condition whose prevalence has skyrocketed in the era of green smoothies, chia bowls, and nut-based plant beverages.

Sally K. Norton, MPH holds a nutrition degree from Cornell University and a master’s degree in Public Health. Her path to becoming a leading expert on dietary oxalate includes a prior career working at major medical schools in medical education and public health research. Her personal healing experience inspired years of research that led to her forthcoming book, Toxic Superfoods, which releases on Dec. 27 and is available for pre-order everywhere books are sold.    She joined me this week to tell me more.

02 Aug 2024Builder and Storyteller for Products Which Improve People’s Lives with Jason Shafton00:30:57

Having vision and discipline in business means having a game plan for acceleration and the patience to see it through. When you have the ambition to start a startup business, establishing clarity is key. According to the Center for American Progress, the number of startups—firms that are under 1 year old—increased by 16 percent between 2019 and 2023, which is more than 2 1/2 times the 2015–2019 growth rate of 6 percent. Importantly, the number did not fall noticeably in 2020 and 2021, so the surge is not simply making up for pandemic-era losses. Jason Shafton is a 20+ year veteran in growth, where he built billion-dollar businesses at Google, Paramount, and DaVita and scaled startups like Headspace, Soothe, and Heal (acquired by Humana). At Google, he scaled the Google Ads platform and launched Google Music and Google Play. He also spent time leading marketing at Comedy Central, where he launched new seasons of South Park and The Daily Show as well as new franchises Broad City, Drunk History and Inside Amy Schumer. After co-founding Heal where he helped thousands of families get access to better health, he ran growth marketing both at Soothe and Headspace, scaling those businesses to millions of global users. Finding himself on speed dial with some of the top tech founders, investors, and CEOs asking for growth marketing support, he now acts as founder of growth consulting firm, Winston Francois (named after his dogs Winston and Frank). Winston Francois works with brands to provide strategic guidance across product, growth, marketing, management, and organizational design to support sustainable value creation. 01 Dec 2023Life Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect to be Beautiful with: Jeff Pearson00:45:52

Hydrocephalus is a neurological disorder caused by an abnormal buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles (cavities) deep within the brain. This excess fluid causes the ventricles to widen, putting harmful pressure on the brain's tissues. Its a life-threatening condition that affects more than 1 million Americans.  Anyone, at any age, can develop hydrocephalus, according to the National Institute of neurological Disorders and Stroke at the National  Institute

For TV Host Jeff Pearson “I was born in Ft. Collins, CO, in 1977. When I was 2 weeks old, it was confirmed that I had hydrocephalus and aqueductal stenosis, and I received my first shunt. Over the next few years, I had several surgeries, most related to hydrocephalus through about age 10. When I was 18, the summer after graduating from high school, I had a couple more hydrocephalus-related surgeries (one of which was a revision). Following those two surgeries, I had a nice long break for about 18 years.

During that time I graduated high school, traveled the world for a year as a singer with a group called Up with People, became a productive, working adult, married Catherine, and we now have 3 amazing children (Elizabeth, Nick, and Kacia) that are growing up way too fast.

Between 2013 and 2022, I had 6 more surgeries - 5 of them were directly related to hydrocephalus. Shortly after a revision in 2018, I was sitting in the exam room waiting for my neurosurgeon to come in to do a follow-up. It was quiet in the room, and I began to hear sounds from the room next to mine that sounded like distraught parents. I thought to myself, "I wonder if they are finding out that their child is going to have brain surgery..."

That got me thinking and my mind was flooded with thoughts of my parents and what they may have felt after hearing that I had to have brain surgery when I was just 2 weeks old, not to mention all the revisions over the years, the worry they must have felt every time I rode my bike or skateboard somewhere, climbed...anything, or went snowboarding.

I wondered if they had any support while I was growing up. Did they have anyone that they could relate to while raising a child with this condition? That gave me the beginning ideas about what would become Hydro with Hope. My wife, Catherine, and I started brainstorming how we might be able to help people. We ultimately decided to join the online community on social media (primarily Facebook and Instagram at the time), and we started our own private group.

The idea behind this was to be able to reach people all around the world and let them know that, despite the scariness of brain surgery and the ensuing challenges of living with hydrocephalus, there's HOPE.” He joined me this week to tell me more.

22 Jun 2023Understanding How Our Brain Works with: Dr Mark Williams00:36:25

In 2021, approximately 406 million disability-adjusted life years were caused by brain health conditions, which is higher than other widely acknowledged health threats such as cancer (260 million DALYs) or cardiovascular disease (402 million DALYs, according to Politico. Dr. Mark Williams, PhD is a neuroscientist committed to improving learning, productivity, and well-being for everyone.”  He has worked with thousands of students, teachers, health professionals, and company directors keen to understand how their brain works, how to perform optimally and maintain a healthy brain. He regularly runs programs on the neuroscience of learning, the neuroscience of emotions, how to hack your habits, how our brains create our reality, and the impact of modern technologies on our brains. Dr Mark’s book The Connected Species: How understanding the evolution of our brain can change the world will be published internationally in 2023.

Dr Mark has an extensive academic background in brain research and teaching. He is a professor of cognitive neuroscience, with over 25 years of experience conducting behavioral and brain imaging research focusing on how we interact with each other, how we learn, and how we think. He has taught the fundamentals of neuroscience to thousands of undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as publishing more than 70 articles in high-impact international journals and co-editing a book. He is an editorial board member of several international journals, has been awarded numerous high-profile fellowships and grants, and has worked at MIT in the USA and multiple universities in Australia.

Not a typical ‘academic’, Dr Mark comes from a disjointed family background. He hated school and experienced first-hand the challenges of getting ahead in a small town in Victoria. To describe these years as ‘colorful’ is an understatement. Aged 25, something changed. Mark returned to learning, completed his HSC, and began what became a rapid rise to academic achievement, including being awarded both the CJ Martin and the Queen Elisabeth II Fellowships. He became fascinated with how we interact, learn and think. Mark went on to study brain plasticity, attention disorders, autism, prosopagnosia (face blindness), dementia, and eating disorders. He has been at the cutting edge of developing computational brain imaging analysis and the adoption of new technologies like virtual reality in research.

Dr Mark draws on his extensive scientific background to work with schools, companies, and the public to develop evidence-based practices using neuroscience to enhance our education, work, and personal lives. His work has been highlighted in the media internationally including in The Guardian, The New York Times, and the Economist, and he is involved in several popular science documentaries. 18 Aug 2020Did the Big Ten Conference Make the Right Decision Cancelling the 2020 season?00:15:33

The Big Ten Conference has decided to pull the plug on the 2020 Football season choosing public health over college football Saturdays. Leaving many to wonder was it the right decision and where is the consistent leadership in college football? The conference is hopeful of playing in spring 2021. With this decision, the Big Ten has become the first Power Five conference to decide not to play this fall amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Pac 12 conference decided shortly after the Big Ten announcement to proceed in the same direction, axing their football season out west too due to the pandemic. Big Ten coaches -- including Ohio State's Ryan Day, Michigan's Jim Harbaugh, Penn State's James Franklin, and Nebraska's Scott Frost -- publicly advocated for playing the 2020 season. However, their pleas and those of Big Ten players were not enough to change the collective minds of Big Ten leaders. Therefore, simply stated what’s the future of college football at large. Harold Shelton III is the Manager of Research at the Big Ten Network. He joined me this week to discuss the situation in further detail.

25 Apr 2023Teaching Mindfulness to Help Professionals Unlock Their Full Potential with Nicholas Cassius Clay00:39:27

Choosing to have a victorious mindset in life is a personal choice we all have to make.  To be aware of the version of our lives which define our most vigorous level of success. The great thing about life is such a definition is different for all of us.  The direction we choose to take it is ours to discover.   Because you see, maximizing your fullest level of potential starts by optimizing your thinking.  Free of any stress and developing a sense of psychological safety which allows you to thrive.  For Mindfulness Coach Nicholas Cassius Clay, he coaches and teaches mindfulness to help professionals unlock their full potential. Most clients experience an increase in confidence, mental clarity, and self-expression after a few sessions working with him.

Before starting Being One World, Nicholas worked in finance. He learned quickly that many people resisted investing because of their fear of the market. He realized that to help people through their fear he had to understand it clearer. This led Nicholas to begin studying deeply how humans work. After studying different schools of thought and completing intense courses in personal development Nicholas discovered mindfulness and its immense benefit for himself. He also realized that many people struggled to grasp the dense information and concepts that went along with it. This led Nicholas to begin developing a way of teaching and coaching mindfulness so that people could grasp it. His focus was to unpack dense and complex information into simple and digestible bites for everyday professionals to apply.

Outside of coaching Nicholas enjoys playing a variety of sports and deep conversations with close friends.
Being one world is about the teaching and coaching of mindfulness and the power we are capable of when directed towards enlightenment (We) rather than shame (I). We expose the limitation of negativity and the functions of survival while teaching the power of awareness by understanding deeply how the human mind operates. He joined me this week to tell me more.

03 Jul 2023The Principles of Process Science with: Samuel Drauschak00:39:56

Nearly 20 million people were laid off in a matter of weeks as the pandemic took hold, regardless of whether they had strong work ethics, good performance or loyalty to a company. Zip Recruiter reports. Then the economic winds shifted just months later, and companies were suddenly desperate to hire. Firings and layoffs reached historic lows. Existing employees were often worked to the point of burnout, newbies with less experience were brought on at a higher wage and employers overlooked things that could have cost workers their jobs in the past. Productivity is down 4.1% on an annualized basis, the biggest decline since the government started keeping track of the number back in 1948. Since then, U.S. productivity had been on a steady upward slope. Until now.   Samuel Drauschak Co-founder and Chief Process Scientist of Truvle.  Where there on a mission to help businesses achieve maximum revenue growth through the principles of process science. 18 Oct 2021Rakesh Naidu On Windsor’s Unemployment Rate & Inclusion of Individuals with Disabilities00:29:19

The Windsor-Essex County Region is dealing with an alarming epidemic. Windsor is going against the grain of the national trend on pandemic recovery, posting the highest rate of unemployment among major cities for September. The unemployment rate for the Census Metropolitan Area that includes Windsor and some of Essex County is 10.4 per cent as of September, according to Statistics Canada estimates released earlier this month. That's down slightly from 10.6 in August. The number of unemployed people in Windsor area remains 4,100 higher than pre-pandemic according to CBC News. Therefore, it begs the question, what’s the key to reversing the trend and cultivating an economic recovery in the Rose City? Rakesh Naidu is the CEO and President of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce and he joined me this week, to discuss Windsor’s economic climate, the region’s economic recovery, and how it will affect individuals with disabilities moving forward, in their pursuit of employment. 02 Aug 2023Helping Oilfield Professionals Overcome Uncertainties about their Financial Future with Chad Hufford00:48:17

Rutgers University says values affect career decisions, how you spend your time, and how you handle money. A value is a force within people that strongly directs their life. Each person places his or her own worth on values such as family, job success, health, love, comfort, friendship, skills, and education.

Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, Chad Hufford grew up in the financial industry, but also developed a strong background in athletics, nutrition, and performance psychology. Chad brings a coaching mindset and the heart of a teacher to financial planning and investing as he strives to both empower and educate people to not only become better investors, but to live more intentionally and create an abundant life.
Chad owns a boutique financial planning firm, Veritas Wealth Management, that manages $500 million and serves several hundred families across the US. In addition to finance, he regularly teaches and speaks on fitness and faith, seeing these as all important aspects of a purposeful and abundant life.

Chad and his wife, Tiffany (also a life-long Alaskan), have been blessed with six wonderful children. Tiffany stays busy homeschooling the kids, and the whole family is very involved in their church and local community.

Their family loves fishing, camping (okay, maybe more like “glamping”), hunting, and enjoying the wonderful outdoors Alaska has to offer. Living in a more rural area outside of Anchorage, and just few hundred yards from the home Chad grew up in, they regularly have the privilege of watching bears, moose, and lynx walk right through their yard.

Believing that to whom much is given, much is expected, Chad strives to employ his knowledge and experience to serve and enrich the lives of those around him.  He joined me this week to tell me more.

31 Jan 2023Your Own DNA Your Genes Your Plan with Laurie Kaplan00:21:53

In one survey, published in Psychology Today 80 percent of working adults—both with and without children—wished that they had more time to spend with their friends and family. Scientists have even coined the term “time famine” to describe the pervasive feeling of being overwhelmed with the demands of work and life. For Laurie Kaplan “As an epigenetic lifestyle coach, I create bespoke health and wellness plans based on the wisdom of your own DNA. Your Genes - Your Plan” I am currently alchemizing the life that I want to live based on the wisdom of my own genetics and body. As a dietitian nutritionist and epigenetic coach, I am able to "read" my client's genetic data and use science to create the best plan for them. Depending on what their goals are, this personal roadmap provides the framework to do this. Once I discovered my own genetics, I was able to shift to the living the life I knew was available to me yet felt forever out of reach.

My passions are many -I've been riding and involved with horses since the age of 5 and worked in the horse industry for many years. I currently own 2 horses and am training for the Gaucho Derby - a 500km horse adventure race in Patagonia that takes place over 8 days in the Andes mountains.

I am the caretaker of a 60 acre farm in central Illinois where I raise sheep and lamb for meat, chickens for their eggs and have a 4 bedroom 2 bath space for retreats. Horse yoga, anyone?

I love caring for others and making sure that all the details create an unforgettable yet easy and fun experience. I create the theme and menu for the retreats by listening to the land and what message it wants me to share. This land has provided me with deep healing after my divorce from an abusive situation that lasted nearly 2 decades of my life.

I am a musician currently playing drums which makes me so incredibly happy. My drum hero's are Taylor Hawkins and Dave Grohl.

I am passionate about personal growth, have attended and crewed Tony Robbin's events and many other seminars and retreats. The growth and connection that has come from these experiences influence my entire life.

I deeply care for each of my clients and am honored when someone chooses me as their guide. There are so many excellent coaches and mentors available so to have someone "pick me" is incredibly special. As a dietitian and epigenetic coach, I get to know each client at an extremely personal level. We go deep into creating the best nutrition, health and life plan for them that is the very foundation for their life.

I have 2 boys who I absolutely adore. Alex, 20 and Christopher, 19, both off in university in places that they love.

I am lucky. Beyond fortunate to have been gifted difficult situations which have ultimately shape who I am today. She joined me this week to tell me more.

30 Jul 2024Transform Your Leadership Achieve Unmatched Performance with: Lisa Goldenthal00:27:41

If you're a high achiever, it means that you have the ambition to achieve at the highest heights of your unmatched potential. It means that you're intrinsically motivated to see others reach the pinnacle of their own potential. It means you're invested in society's future. Business.com reports that 57% of America’s workforce considers themselves to be high achievers. Self-described high-achieving workers in our study seemed to resist the hallmarks of “hustle culture.” Though they were likelier than average or underachieving colleagues to show up early to work, they also took more vacation days than others. They prioritize professional development, volunteer work, networking, and stress reduction techniques over those who consider themselves average or underachievers.

Remote workers were less likely than full-time in-person workers to describe themselves as high achievers. They were also less likely to expect pay raises or promotions. Though 82% of workers felt they’ve achieved enough to deserve a pay raise, only 30% plan to actually ask for a raise. Women, in particular, were less likely than men to expect to receive a raise, though they felt equally deserving. Generation Z workers (aged 18-26) were likelier than their older colleagues to feel they deserve promotions at work. They were twice as likely as Baby Boomers to say they expect to get a raise and a promotion soon.

18 Mar 2023Helping Women Reimagine their Purpose Utilizing Self-Acknowledgment with: Dr. Carolyn D Mack00:34:37

In addition to their concerns about low and declining levels of trust in government, many Americans are anxious about the level of confidence citizens have in each other. Fully 71% think interpersonal confidence has worsened in the past 20 years. And about half (49%) think a major weight dragging down such trust is that Americans are not as reliable as they used to be, The Pew Research Center reports. For Dr. Carolyn D. Mack: “My mission is to empower midlife professional women navigating life transitions to reimagine their purpose to have a life not a living.”   I realized that going the traditional career route and expecting people to recognize my hard work and get promoted was not working for me. The more education I pursued to break into the arena where I could thrive, did not have the catapulting effect that I was led to believe would occur. Experiencing the pandemic forced me to view my life from an intersectional viewpoint and make a different decision. That has changed my life.

I was born in Philadelphia PA and raised in South Carolina, where I completed high school and attended the University of South Carolina at the flagship campus in Columbia, SC. I began my work career in the retail and customer service industries during college. I began my retail life working at Majik Market, a convenience store two blocks from her campus dorm room. I then moved on to work in sporting goods until graduation. Upon graduation, my foray into higher education began, encompassing over half of my job life.

I got into coaching because I wanted to become a talking head. I love to teach and help others. I began coaching parents in navigating high school and college athletic opportunities and scholarships for their children. I coached youth track and field and became a USATF Level 1 Track Coach. I coached in areas where I had experience and found success.

After completing my doctorate in business in 2019, I felt compelled to start my business. I had always wanted to be a life coach and support women's life journeys. But I also wanted to support micro-business owners in having a business that utilized technology in a way that was supportive of business growth. Little did I know that a pandemic would force the issue in a very real way. In my own naivete, I was surprised that business owners were not as open to the prospect as I thought they would be. From there, I struggled to find the place that best suited my talents and abilities that would serve others.

Between 2019 and today, I struggled a lot trying to build a business, get over my personal fears and grow. I began to trust myself enough to do what I needed for me first and to understand that it all begins inside. I am learning that lesson using the gift of daily acknowledgment.

The value I bring to the conversation experiential and well-researched perspective on what the midlife years, acknowledgment, life transitions, and purpose and our stories create when approached with a clear vision and determination. She joined me this week to tell me more.

Finality the fact or impression of being an irreversible ending. This could certainly qualify for the impressions surrounding Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers these days. Two of the most consequential figures in all of sports. Because after all even the best to ever do it have a shelf life.

“I don't know. I'll know when the time is right. Like I've always said, I'm very blessed to play as long as I have. As things have gone on in the later parts of my career ... there's a lot of interest in when I'm going to stop playing. I understand that. When I know, I'll know. When I don't know, I don't know. I'm not going to race to some conclusion about that." "Sometimes it takes some time to really evaluate how you feel and what you want to do. I think when the time's right I'll be ready to make a decision one way or another, just like I said last week," Brady said

Meanwhile, in Green Bay Rodgers is still in the deliberation phase. Carefully considering his next move and whether he wants to sever ties with the only franchise he’s ever known.

“I’m gonna take some time and have conversations with the folks around here, and then take some time away and make a decision—obviously before free agency.”

Therefore, the obvious question is what comes next for these legendary signal callers?

Chris Bumbaca is a sports reporter for USATODAY, he joined me this week to provide some prospective on the matter. As well as some other NFL headlines.
