18 Jul 2023[Highlight] Women empowerment in football: stakes and challenges, with Mariana Gutiérrez from Liga MX00:11:07

On July 20th, the ninth FIFA Women’s World Cup will kick off in Australia and New Zealand.

A good opportunity for us to highlight the episode recorded 2 months ago with Mariana Gutierrez, Head of La Liga MX Femenil. In this new LeCorner Highlight, she emphasizes the importance of presentation and viewership to develop women’s football and sports.

Mariana also tackles the issue of the general lack of competitions and tournaments for female players.

She speaks about using your competitors to your advantage, not just on the pitch.

The USA women’s team is known worldwide as a strong force due to the fight of notable players, but the USA also has structures in place to help balance gender discrepancies. This allowed the team to develop, become competitive and gain notoriety. The rise of the USA and Canada's competitive women’s teams is not only a strength and an asset for their respective clubs, but it raises the global notoriety of North American Women’s soccer and, in turn, La Liga MX Femenil.

In this extract, you will also learn about :

  • The functioning of a professional female league
  • Some cultural hindrances to overcome

We hope you enjoy it!

26 Jun 2022[Highlight] MLSE: MLSE Digital Labs & In-House Capabilities00:11:23

MLSE Digital Labs is an innovation organization that unites business and digital strategy, working across MLSE business operations and the front office. Its mission is to provide end-to-end delivery, starting with top-level strategy and continuing through product design and detailed technical development and deployment.

The unique aspect of this digital department is that every year it has increased its in-house capabilities (human, technological, etc.) to create more and more value for its fans and clients. They possess almost all the capabilities to develop new ideas and products from research to production.

In 2021, we had an insightful discussion with Teeka Cookson, now Director, Membership & Retention of MLSE, on the structure of the MLSE Digital Labs. We decided to highlight this discussion as it is an excellent example of how a sports organisation can structure a digital department to bring more value to its fans/clients and keep resources in-house.

We hope this will help you if you have, or plan to set up, a digital lab in your organisation.
