25 Mar 2019Episode 17 | Rich Birch - Author, Pastor, Entrepreneur, Podcast Host00:34:42

Rich describes himself: I’ve been involved in church leadership for over 20 years.  Early on I had the privilege of leading in one of the very first multisite churches in North America. I led the charge in helping The Meeting House in Toronto to become the leading multi-site church in Canada with over 4,500 people in 6 locations. (Today they are 17 locations with somewhere over 6,000 people attending.) In addition, I served on the leadership team of Connexus Community Church in Ontario, a North Point Community Church Strategic Partner.

For seven years I served as a part of the four-member Lead Team at Liquid Church in the Manhattan facing communities of New Jersey. In my time with the church we grew from 1 campus to 6 … and our attendance grew to over 3,500 people. (That’s actual numbers not “Pastor Inflated Numbers!”) Drop by this link if you want to see a sample of me teaching at Liquid. At Liquid I oversaw communications, weekend service programming, campus expansion, and special projects.

I have a dual vocational background that uniquely positions me for serving churches to multiply impact. While in the marketplace, I founded a dot-com with two partners in the late 90’s that worked to increase value for media firms and internet service providers.

I speak at conferences like Orange, WFX and various regional multisite church events. I’m a featured writer on Auxano’s Vision Room, ChurchLeaders.com and MinistryBriefing.

My first book, UNREASONABLE CHURCHES: 10 Churches Who Zagged When Others Zigged and Saw More Impact Because of It, is an Amazon bestseller in the Church Leadership category. It’s designed to help church leaders think a new thought and take new risks in impacting their community.

My latest book, Church Growth Flywheel: 5 Practical Systems to Drive Growth at Your Church, has helped thousands of church leaders reach more people in their community. It was also the forerunner to Church Growth Flywheel Masterclass, a proven step-by-step system for helping your church reach more people than ever before by dramatically increasing the invite culture in your people!

I’m married to Christine and together we parent two wonderful teens, Haley and Hunter. Collectively we try to keep our dog, Rory, from chewing everything that lands on the floor.

15 Feb 2022Episode 146 | The Power of Clear values Jodi Tonarelli and Carey O'Connor00:45:57

When it comes to the power of clear values in your organization, your team can love your mission and your vision but ultimately people are a culmination of their previous experiences. That’s why clarity is a process we must move people towards with consistency and persistence.

In this week's episode, Jenni and 4Sight Coach, Carey O'Connor, interview Jodi Tonarelli Executive Pastor of The Ridge Community Church in Greenfield, WI in a conversation about how clarifying culture will enable you to move your team from aspiration to accountability through the use of common language.

When values are clearly defined, communicated and modeled not only are you investing in individuals and therefore your team as a whole, but you are also investing in the future of your organization - which is an investment into those whom you serve.

22 Feb 2022Episode 147 | Earn Trust to Rebuild Culture: An Interview with Tim Stevens00:42:28

There’s no doubt we have been forced to maximize the pivot and lead through unprecedented times in the past couple of years due to several external forces, but what happens when you are called to lead through the challenges that come from within an organization when there has been an implosion of leadership and those remaining are both exhausted and traumatized?

In this week's episode, Tim Stevens, Executive Pastor of Campuses and Culture at Willow Creek Community Church in Chicago, IL, joins with Jenni in an important conversation about how we can step into the mess of a culture of disruption and distrust and take steps towards stability and credibility.

Culture work is patient and persistent work. There is no microwave process for long term effect. Rebuilding a healthy culture is less about building trust and more about earning trust.

01 Mar 2022Episode 148 | The Extraordinary Impact of Organizational Clarity00:30:59

Within a growing organization, tensions can build quickly when responsibilities are unclear, power struggles become consistent and deadlines start to be missed. The hard truth is, the higher you are to the top of an organization the more blinded you become to the confusion and chaos that can loom below. That is why you, as a leader, need to be designating a disproportionate amount of time to the ongoing health of your team.

In this week's episode, Jenni discusses the “Why” behind one of her favorite tools. Hidden behind boxes and lines, an Org Chart that clearly aligns and empowers can ultimately give your organization a competitive advantage in today's culture; unlocking your team to thrive in both purpose and strategy.

An Org Chart that works will not be a reactive system created simply to appease the frustrations of the immediate but rather should be created with the intention to strategically resolve mission outcomes.

For a next step, check out our 4Sight: Culture Blindspot Assessment. This survey will help you discover where you should be investing your time and efforts to make a bigger impact in your team. Our free assessment will help you identify your biggest culture blind spot so your team can thrive.

08 Mar 2022Episode 149 | Building an Org Chart That Works!00:28:14

Within a growing organization, tensions can quickly build when responsibilities are unclear, power struggles become consistent, and deadlines start being missed. The hard truth is, the higher you are to the top of an organization the more blinded you become to the confusion and chaos that can loom below. That is why you, as a leader, need to be designating a disproportionate amount of time to the ongoing health of your team.

In last week's episode, Jenni gave us the "WHY" and this week she coaches us on the "HOW" - laying a basic framework of "structure for the strategy". When building an Org Chart that works, Jenni answers the question, "How can we strategically reevaluate our current structure in order to more intentionally design, build and clearly align our teams to more effectively and efficiently accomplish our mission?

In today's culture, the consistent pursuit of organizational clarity will be a lifeline for growing and thriving organizations. An Org Chart that works will allow you to steward the tensions between empowering the "WHO" (the individuals entrusted to your care) and providing greater clarity for the "WHAT" (the strategies and purposes of those committed to the mission).

For a next step, check out our 4Sight: Culture Blindspot Assessment. This survey will help you discover where you should be investing your time and efforts to make a bigger impact on your team. Our free assessment will help you identify your biggest culture blind spot so your team can thrive.

Prior to this, Troy was the Vice President of the Customer Success Department at Pushpay overseeing all post-sale organizations. Most notably, Troy pioneered the Customer Success Department from humble beginnings to an Award Winning team that partners with churches and non-profits around the globe. 22 Mar 2022Episode 151 | Creating a Culture of Trust00:12:49

Values become intrinsic to you as a leader. Therefore, they must be clearly articulated and intentionally communicated with consistency to those whom you lead. While proximity may enable some to “catch culture”, for a quickly growing organization, this will not be effective or sustainable.

In this week's episode, Jenni identifies the most common issue found within most organizations - a lack of trust. Systemic issues can be extremely frustrating if we cannot pinpoint where tensions are coming from and a lot of times, as leaders, we can lack the organizational emotional intelligence to know how to create and rebuild a culture of trust.

The good news? Trust is not some soft elusive quality that you either have or you don’t, its a pragmatic and tangible asset that you create and build over time - but much faster than you’d ever think possible!

To dive in deeper, check out our 4Sight: Values Course. In this course, Jenni Catron walks you through how you can begin to define values, beliefs, and behaviors that will become the anchor for everything you do.

29 Mar 2022Episode 152 | Protection + Provision for Your Organization: An Interview with Tiffany Henning SPHR/CRPC00:36:12

In light of the first wave of “The Great Resignation” and employee burnout we are experiencing coming out on the other side of COVID, there is much evidence forecasting plenty of movement that is still to be had on the horizon. Make no doubt about it, people within your organization are asking themselves the meaningful question “Is this where I still want to be?”

In this week's episode, Jenni interviews Tiffany Henning, a veteran in Church & Ministry HR with over 20 years of combined experience. She is the founder and “Chief People Person” of HR Ministry Solutions, a faith based non-profit specifically created to simplify HR compliance and staff pain points for churches and ministries in order to foster healthy cultures and systems for sustainability.

When it comes to attracting and retaining staff a lot of times its simply about stewardship. People rarely leave jobs. People leave bosses. In ministry its easy to focus on the 5,000 and forget to invest in our disciples. But your staff is your first line - your first congregation. That’s why we must hire slow, on board well and be intentional about the ongoing health and retention of those we are investing in.

05 Apr 2022Episode 153 | The Foresight to Fight Fatigue: Jenni Catron and Trey McKnight00:34:04

From global upheaval to massive organizational shifts, burnout and stress are at an all time high. This year according to the American Psychological Association, reporting even higher than last year, 3 out of 5 employees are reporting stress overload: lack of motivation, lack of energy, cognitive weariness, emotional exhaustion, and extreme physical fatigue. No doubt, over the past couple of years our strategies have had to shift and we have been forced to experiment with new ways of reaching those we serve and those we are on mission with. Simple things now feel more complex. The disruption of routine has compounded the decisions we need to make - impacting the sense of overload and fatigue we all feel.

In this week's episode, Jenni and 4Sight Coach Trey McKnight have a conversation about the post epidemic Crisis of Burnout. Trey also serves as the Executive Director of Staff Culture and Development at Orange and has worked in ministry for over 20 years with organizations such as: Global Leadership Network, The John Maxwell Company, North Point Ministries, and Chickfila.

New seasons require intentional new rhythms. As leaders, we must then be sure we are modeling the behavior we want repeated. The extraordinary strategy of Self Leadership is the antidote to overload and fatigue. Self Leadership is founded on discipline. In order for us to build our capability and capacity to adapt to the uncontrollable, so that we can ultimately show up our best selves, we must individually establish healthy and sustainable rhythms emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually.

For a next step, we encourage you to connect with one of our trained and experienced 4Sight Group: Leadership Coaches. All leaders agree that the culture of your organization matters. But culture starts with you! Our aim is to equip you to lead through the overload that changes in organizational culture can bring. We have a proven track record of setting clients up for success as they transform their teams from disengaged to thriving, from divided to collaborative, and from toxic to trusting.

12 Apr 2022Episode 154 | Creating Clarity & Consistency in a Hybrid Culture00:25:01

Did you know that currently over 60% of new hires are now requesting flexible work schedules upon interviewing? In a survey conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers in June of 2020, remote work has been an overwhelming success for both employees and employers reporting an 83% overall satisfaction rate. However, while the office may still be here to stay - its function may indeed be changing. Because interestingly enough, 87% of employees actually report that one of their top rated needs is to be able to collaborate and build relationships - which typically happens in an office type setting.

In this week's episode, Jenni details five crucial areas you can practically pursue in order to promote clarity and  consistency within your organization to find success leading in a hybrid culture.

Whether we have been able to “catch up” or not, organizations have been forced to pivot and find new ways to become flexible while maintaining the integrity of processes and productivity. There’s no doubt that over the past few years strategies have had to change. Many of us are navigating how to hold on to traditions of the past while experimenting with new ways to reach those whom we serve.

For a next step in fostering greater relationships and trust amongst your teams, we encourage you to check out our 4Sight Group: Extraordinary Teams Workshop. This is a One-Day Workshop designed to help your staff move from a group of individuals to a team; from “me” to “we.” Leadership expert and 4Sight Coach Julie Pierce will lead your team through fun, engaging experiences and challenging content focused on the key aspects of transforming from an ordinary group into an extraordinary team.

19 Apr 2022Episode 155 | Strategies to Sustain Culture in a Post Pandemic Workplace: An Interview with Kelly Skiles00:36:17

While most of us worked in proximity, in highly relational cultures, the pandemic truly only accelerated the expectations of flexibility that were already in motion. As our means and tools for accomplishing tasks and meeting goals were changing, so too was the definition of “the workplace”. However, one thing’s for sure, in 2020 we were all forced to accelerate and adapt quickly. We were forced to forge new ways, developing new systems and strategies, but we have also been forced to manage some very real tensions: expectations, accountability, communication, protecting culture and healthy team dynamics.

In this week's episode, Jenni continues the conversation about creating clarity and consistency within hybrid cultures in an interview with Kelly Skiles, XP at Soul City Church in Chicago. Kelly spends the majority of her time developing leaders, building team culture and focusing on strategy. She has worked both in ministry and in the non profit space for nearly 20 years where she has enjoyed coaching and leading dozens of teams through strategic processes to help them reach clarity and achieve their goals. She has been married to her husband Mark for 18 years and has 3 kids and loves spending her free time cheering on the Chicago Bulls.

In the past, proximity helped to create accountability, but now that we’ve moved to cultures of flexibility, necessary feedback has naturally become less frequent. With less interaction we are then required to be more mindful and intentional about the various communication styles of those on our teams. As a leader, there is no one-size fits all approach. However, as leaders we must ask ourselves the important question - How do I need to adjust or shift in order to help create a culture that people want to be a part of and that they can contribute and do their best work?

For a next step, we encourage you to connect with one of our trained and experienced 4Sight Group: Leadership Coaches. Our aim is to equip you to lead through the overload that changes in organizational culture can bring. We have a proven track record of setting clients up for success as they transform their teams from disengaged to thriving, from divided to collaborative, and from toxic to trusting. We also want to help equip you to discover the various styles of communication that are represented on your team along with their working genius’, competencies and frustrations so that you can better achieve your mission together.

26 Apr 2022Episode 156 | On Mission to Outlast: An Interview with Brian Mosley00:43:38

With each new season, the majority of new opportunities will not necessarily be a bad thing but are they always the best thing? When building and leading an organization to last throughout the generations, clear and consistent communication of your “why” and your “what” will empower your teams to “decide into something rather than slide into something” when it comes to the ever-changing “how”.

In this week's episode, Jenni has a conversation with Brian Mosley, President of RightNow Media. RightNow Media’s mission is to work with the global church to inspire people to love others before self and Christ above all. From creating video content, to RightNow Media @Work and events through online streaming, they exist to help people realize their God-given purpose of serving and loving others in a world that’s primarily concerned with selfish pursuits.

Maintaining a clear focus of the mission and values of your organization will enable healthy and consistent growth as you are better able to filter opportunities through the lens of who your organization serves and why it's important.

03 May 2022Episode 157 | “What’s Here Now?” A Practice of Presence: An Interview with Jeanne Stevens00:38:04

When it comes to creating cultures of psychological safety - building both trust and belonging - how can we better lead from a place of emotional and relational intelligence that will enable both ourselves and our teams to show up more fully?

In this week's episode, Jenni has a conversation with Jeanne Stevens, Founder and Co- Lead Pastor of Soul City Church in Chicago, IL. - one of America's fastest growing urban churches. Prior to starting Soul City Church, Stevens was on the pastoral staff at Willow Creek Community Church and North Point Community Church. A sought-after speaker, leader, and writer, Jeanne's passion is to help people wake up to their purpose as they pursue a life of wholehearted freedom.

We were created to be “human beings” not “human doings”. But how do we as leaders manage the very real tensions between rehashing the past, rehearsing the future, all while learning to lead from a place of presence that postures us to lead with both a peace and a power that ultimately challenges those around us to do the same? Because we can reflect and we can plan but that will not happen without intentional space created in the present.

10 May 2022Episode 158 | The Rules of Engagement00:21:54

Leading from a place of clarity and confidence, in a season of immense uncertainty, is something that you can do! How you lead amidst uncertainty is ultimately a greater reflection of your leadership ability than how you lead in the ordinary. But did you know that the two most common issues that most organizations face is their values are either completely ignored or currently working against them?

In this week's episode, Jenni provides both the “why” and the “how” to creating great values that will enable you to both align your teams and provide the ‘rules of engagement’ to accomplishing the vision and mission together.

Values are what tie your purpose, culture and strategies together. Clearly defining those values will more effectively drive behavior, influence your decisions and equip your teams to move forward with both clarity and confidence.

To dive in deeper, check out our 4Sight: Values Course. In this course, Jenni Catron walks you through how you can begin to define values, beliefs, and behaviors that will become the anchor for everything you do.

17 May 2022Episode 159 | Awareness in Leadership: An Interview with Genea Browne00:34:18

The two most critical areas of focus, for any leader, is a growing sense of self awareness and a commitment to self leadership. The more you know yourself the better you are able to lead others. When a leader is not well there will undoubtedly be a ripple effect to everyone under their care and influence. Therefore, we must lead ourselves well so that we can lead others better.

In this week's episode, Jenni interviews 4Sight Coach and Executive Director Genea Browne. Genea is devoted to leadership and personal development with over 20 years of both ministry and marketplace experience. She is most passionate about and highly accomplished throughout her career at guiding individuals and organizations to achieve alignment, growth, and excellence. She specializes in organizational development and building a healthy culture. She has written and delivered leadership training and workshops on these practices to many churches and non-profit organizations.

Today, Genea will give us “4 Areas of Awareness” that are important when it comes to leading self, others and making decisions as a team. We have to be able to both recognize and appreciate that every person on our team has a unique self concept they bring to the table, and if we are not able to recognize the fact that people filter through their own awareness and self concept we will never be able to fully appreciate the differences within our teams.

For a next step, we encourage you to connect with one of our trained and experienced 4Sight Group: Leadership Coaches. All leaders agree that the culture of your organization matters. 24 May 2022Episode 160 | Perspective Shifts to Lead Through Change00:22:38

Today’s culture is demanding a different leader. How you led historically will no longer have the same impact today. The pace of change around you is dizzying and the expectation to keep up with it all is debilitating. To lead well in this season is going to require a leader who has the emotional intelligence for self leadership, the awareness to intentionally navigate critical moments, and the ability to effectively discern the emotional current underlying team culture.

In this week's episode, Jenni dissects the “Diffusion of Innovation Theory” and how it relates to people's propensity to adopt or resist change within a culture or organization. With common tensions between “Early Adopters” and “The Majority”, Jenni offers three perspectives that will enable you to shift your focus from a need to affect change to being able to positively lead through change.

Culture work is patient and persistent work. As leaders we must become aware of where we can get stuck in the comfortable and familiar rather than be curious about the unknown. A shift in perspective can open up ideas, conversations and doors.

For a next step, check out our 4Sight: Culture Survey. This survey will help you discover where you should be investing your time and efforts to see greater  impact across your organization. Our free assessment will help you identify your biggest culture blind spot so your teams can thrive.

31 May 2022Episode 161| Reengaging Volunteers to Rebuild a Contagious Volunteer Culture: Jenni Catron and Jess Bealer00:28:13

Every human was born with the innate need to live on purpose, for a purpose and to belong. Perhaps then, the strongest narratives we need to be mindful in forming, in regards to our language when creating a contagious volunteer culture and reengaging volunteers, must help people connect the dots and see how consistently serving within the local church actually benefits them more than it does the organization. All of a sudden, the power of purpose and connection then turns small tasks into “Big Asks” - ultimately moving people from disengaged or consumers to contributors in something much larger than themselves.

In this week's episode, Jenni and Jess Bealer have a conversation about post pandemic strategies for moving your teams from a mindset of imposition, when rebuilding a volunteer base, to creating a contagious volunteer culture that ministers to people while also moving them to owners within the organization. Jess has been leading children’s ministry for 21 years. Six of which were spent overseeing standards, systems, staffing and atmosphere for the children’s ministry of Elevation Church. She has overseen the launch of twenty locations, and is considered a specialist in multisite. Jess currently oversees the Family Ministry Services Division of Generis, an organization dedicated to helping churches see their mission accomplished. Jessica is a mother of five, published author and host of the Women’s Leadership Workshop podcast.

06 Jun 2022Episode 162 | Cultures of Generosity: Connecting Purpose and Empowering People An Interview with Jim Sheppard00:48:31

As leaders we have the important responsibility of creating cultures that move our teams and those whom we serve from living out of a scarcity mindset to one of abundance and generosity. A thriving and flourishing Culture of Generosity is an environment where relationship, connection, and transformation are critical to the how and why of operations. This takes intentional time and effort and requires both internal and external accountability from everyone within the organization.

In this week's episode, Jenni and Jim Sheppard have a conversation about a key component in the development of culture and discuss how “The Great Resignation” has given us an opportunity to grow as leaders, invest in leadership development and be more intentional when it comes to legacy. Jim Sheppard is CEO & Principal of Generis, a consulting firm passionate about helping churches inspire and cultivate generosity through giving development, coaching, and strategy. For the last 27+ years, he has devoted his life to coaching pastors especially in navigating the resource limitations that restrict their ministry potential.

Organizations that reflect Cultures of Generosity have shifted their focus from “What can we build?” to “What can we leave behind?”. More than what we can simply glean from research, in order to affect our bottom line, we must also seek to understand through proper relationships if we want to have lasting impact that connects with and empowers the next generation.

For a next step, we encourage you to connect with one of our trained and experienced 4Sight Group: Leadership Coaches. All leaders agree that the culture of your organization matters. But culture starts with you! Transform your team from disengaged to thriving, from divided to collaborative, and from toxic to trusting.

14 Jun 2022Episode 163 | The Connected Leader: Empower Your True Self + Inspire Others An Interview with Karen J Hardwick00:34:11

When it comes to the Great Resignation and employee burnout studies are telling us more and more about the power of connection and purpose when it comes to engaging with and stewarding those whom we lead. Recent findings also suggest that ¾ of executives say they are currently concerned about their own mental health. The truth of the matter is, we cannot connect with anyone in sustainable, healthy ways unless we connect with ourselves in meaningful and honest ways first! Self reflection is some of the most courageous work we can do and it will make everything and everyone around us - better!

In this week's episode, Jenni has a conversation with Karen Hardwick, an Atlanta-based psychotherapist and leadership consultant who has coached leaders at top companies including ESPN, UPS, and Turner Broadcasting, to be better leaders at both work and home through the superpower of connection. Karen combines psychology, spirituality and leadership principles to focus on first connecting with yourself to make you a better leader at the office but also enhance your relationships at home and in the community.

As leaders we need to consistently pursue self awareness along with journeying through the process of self discovery. Self awareness is about information but self discovery brings transformation. We need to do the hard work of understanding how our story and experiences may be affecting our current leadership in unhealthy ways. The more successful we become the easier it becomes to squander rather than steward the giftings given to us and a tremendous amount of damage can be done in our wake because whatever we do not own will only grow stronger.

For a next step, check out our 4 Dimensions of Extraordinary Leadership Course. Too many leaders feel overwhelmed and ill-equipped to lead. If you can relate to that challenge, you might be asking yourself some questions. What does great leadership look like? How do you become a healthy extraordinary leader? In this course, Jenni walks you through a framework for leadership that will be an anchor in your growth journey as you pursue self discovery and self awareness to lead both yourself and others better.

21 Jun 2022Episode 164 | From Building a Church to Building a City An Interview with Mark Batterson00:30:17

In today’s society, trying to intentionally lead and grow healthy cultures amidst such polarization and division can bring with it a whole set of nuanced dynamics to navigate all their own. But as leaders we cannot simply ignore the growing tensions of the society we live in. Everyone is eager to have you communicate your position; however, we must learn how to responsibly “exegete culture” for the sake of unity in order that we might better direct those whom we lead and serve to move from an “us vs. them” mentality to one that allows us to: zoom out, celebrate what is going right and enjoy the journey we are all on together.

In this week's episode, Jenni and Mark Batterson have a conversation about how we can better lead and guide conversations surrounding today’s increasingly intensified culture. Mark Batterson is the lead pastor of National Community Church in Washington, DC. Mark holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Regent University and is the New York Times best-selling author of 19 books. Mark is married to Lora and they live on Capitol Hill with their three children: Parker, Summer, and Josiah.

As leaders we have been given the unique opportunity to communicate a new vision - a third alternative - one of hope and healing through the power of purpose and connection that can shape teams to chase after a shared goal for the sake of building something greater. When we choose to stay humble and stay hungry there’s nothing we can’t accomplish together.

28 Jun 2022Episode 165 | Internal > External : An Interview with Jeff Henderson00:44:03

In a post pandemic world most experts would argue that the pandemic simply highlighted and reinforced the current state of one's organizational culture. As the workplace continues to shift and gaps in the workforce remain, those who are still seeking “next” are desiring to belong to a distinct culture that emulates purpose and meaning from the inside —> out.

In this week's episode, Jenni had a conversation with Jeff Henderson about the importance of knowing what you are FOR as an organization but also as an individual. Named by Forbes Magazine as one of 20 speakers you shouldn’t miss, Jeff has become a trusted voice for businesses and non-profit organizations. Jeff has worked for well-known organizations such as the Atlanta Braves, Callaway Gardens, Chick-fil-A and North Point Ministries, one of the largest churches in America. While there, Jeff was the lead pastor for three churches over 17 years and helped launch North Point Online, one of the largest online ministries in the world.

Today people are looking to belong to a culture that takes care of it’s people; an organization that prioritizes humanity over systems. And those on your current teams are desperately seeking to be led. But as leaders, we must first remember to prioritize how we lead ourselves if we are to have lasting impact leading others. As we do the hard work to bring the best version of ourselves - culture lifts! The greatest gift you can give to your team is the internal work you will do, more than anything you will do external.

05 Jul 2022Episode 166 | When Vision Becomes Reality: The Employee Engagement Funnel00:17:13

Great culture is not hard to spot. Culture matters.  It matters for the people you’re trying to reach.  It matters for the people you are trying to lead whether they are staff or volunteers. The environment you create in your organization is either attracting or repelling.  There is rarely a middle ground.  And as leaders we set the tone for the culture.  We have to own it.  We have to steward it.  We have to set it, and we have to maintain it.

In this week's episode, Jenni discusses the five steps to the “Employee Engagement Funnel”, reminding us that we don’t drift towards extraordinary culture; it takes time, attention and commitment. When culture is well defined we know “who” we are and “why” we do the work we do.”

The gaps that exist between “who we want to be” and “what we are” hold the keys of opportunity we have to invest in and develop culture. But if we have not yet done the work to clarify culture we cannot truly determine the health of something that is unclear to begin with. We must create organizational rhythms of cultural inputs that consistently provide a steady reminder of the values, beliefs and behaviors that define our aspirational culture. The more employees are actively engaged in achieving mission…the more compelling your culture will become!

To dive in deeper, check out our 4Sight: Values Course. In this course, Jenni Catron walks you through how you can begin to define values, beliefs, and behaviors that will become the anchor for everything you do.

12 Jul 2022Episode 167 | Own It! : Influencing Culture from Any Seat An Interview with Ed Ollie Jr.00:45:04

It can be frustrating for a high capacity leader when you don’t find yourself in a chief decision making seat. It can be hard figuring out where to show up or how to affect culture. But the truth is culture always exists. You are always influencing culture and culture is always influencing you. However, if we do not become aware of the responsibility that comes with our seat of influence, within that culture, and learn how to calibrate that influence well, we can become passive in our leadership ultimately moving us into a victim mindset.

In this week's episode, Jenni has a conversation with Ed Ollie Jr. about how we can effectively lead and affect culture from any seat of influence by asking the questions: “What is the current culture? What am I bringing to the culture? And How do we diagnose the culture to move forward together with clear mission, vision and values?”. Ed graduated with athletic and academic honors in Political Science and Sociology and holds a Masters of Public Administration. Ed enjoys serving on the international board of InterVarsity USA and MOPS and has served as chaplain for the Miami Hurricanes as well as other professional teams. In 1995 New Man Magazine named him one of the "Top Five Young Christian Leaders" in America. In 2020, Ed accepted the position of Campus Pastor of the historic Willow Creek Community Church’s North Shore Campus where he serves as part of the Senior Leadership and Teaching Team.

For any leader, it is important to take regular inventory of the lanes and roles you can control, in order to positively impact the culture and spaces in which you do have influence over. No matter what position we may hold we can always affect culture positively when we ask ourselves: “What is right? What is true? And What can I do?”

19 Jul 2022Episode 168 | The Linchpin to Your Success: A Critical Moment for Clarity & Connection with Jenni Catron & Trey McKnight00:35:46

More than ever employees are looking to belong and engage in an organization that offers purpose and meaning. Not only are people being attracted to organizations with stronger and clearer cultures, partnering with a mission and vision bigger than themselves, but they are also interested in being a part of a team that encourages their own growth and development.

In this week's episode, Jenni has a conversation with 4 Sight Coach Trey McKnight about the critical moment we face to rise up to the challenges proposed in our current climate in order to seize the opportunities we have to invest in what we can control. Trey serves as the Executive Director of Staff Culture and Development at Orange and has worked in ministry for over 20 years with organizations such as: Global Leadership Network, The John Maxwell Company, North Point Ministries, and Chickfila.

Amidst a major shift in “How We Work”, it is important that we as leaders consistently take steps to move forward towards creating regular rhythms of communication to increase trust and connection within our organization. Asking clarifying questions, taking the time to listen and recognizing that culture work takes both patience and persistence is worth it and will make your organization stand out among the rest.

26 Jul 2022Episode 169 | Reclaiming Time to Increase Engagement with Jenni Catron & Heath Wilson00:37:00

According to recent studies, the connection between employee well being and employee engagement are inseparable. Trends show that investment and development of human capital should be our top priority. Healthy employees are more mindful, happier and show higher rates of job satisfaction. Engaged employees show up to work with a bounce in their step, are less distracted and overall are less vulnerable to negative stress. Where engagement is low - morale is low. Where engagement is high - cultures thrive and organizations show 21% greater profitability.

In this week's episode, Jenni has a conversation with Heath Wilson, Co-Founder of Aro, about how we as leaders and chief vision casters can be more intentional about modeling what it looks like to manage a very real distraction that hinders us from truly seeing our people and leaning into more meaningful interactions with those whom we lead. Heath is passionate about helping leaders, families, and organizations reclaim their time without technology and Aro is his way of doing that. Prior to Aro, Heath’s 20+ year career was primarily spent at eVestment, a financial technology company he co-founded and ultimately sold to NASDAQ in 2017.

As leaders, we have the ability to set the tone in our cultures by creating new habits and establishing rhythms to increase authentic engagement. Small habits are the building blocks to take you from where you are to where you want to go. In our everyday interactions, it is our responsibility to bend culture and create moments that hold the possibility of quantity for the sake of quality.

02 Aug 2022Episode 170 | 5 Tips for Leading a Hybrid Team00:26:09

Did you know that currently over 60% of new hires are requesting flexible work schedules upon interviewing? In the newest report from ADP Research Institute, “two thirds (64%) of the workforce would consider looking for a new job if they were required to return to the office full time.” While the office may still be here to stay - its function may indeed be changing. Because interestingly enough, 87% of employees actually report that one of their top rated needs is to be able to collaborate and build relationships - which typically happens in an office type setting.

In this week's episode, Jenni shares five crucial areas you can focus on to promote clarity and consistency within your organization and find success leading in a hybrid culture.

16 Aug 2022Episode 172 | 3 Key Indicators that Impact Employee Engagement with Jenni Catron & Holly Tate00:33:22

According to a recent Gallup study, 85% of employees are disengaged in their work; however, teams where employees have weekly interaction with their manager have the most employee engagement. If employee engagement is the lagging indicator, research has shown that consistent, intentional 1:1 meetings are the leading indicator. But how do we increase employee engagement, especially in the new hybrid work-world we’re living in?

In this week's episode, Jenni has a conversation with Holly Tate, Senior Vice President of Growth at Leadr about the three key indicators that impact employee engagement, and how 1:1 meetings can amplify your influence across your organization, while avoiding them robs our team of the opportunity to seek clarity, ask for help, seek development, and receive feedback. Leadership development and great culture creation require consistent and repetitive action.

Holly is passionate about connecting leaders with tools that help them discover a context to consistently apply the leadership content they’re learning. She is a growth strategist, entrepreneur, speaker, and member of the Forbes Communication Council who believes that organizations move at the speed of trust.

23 Aug 2022Episode 173 | Creating Thriving Teams Through Compassion and Encouragement with Jenni Catron & Nate Taylor00:34:54

As we come out of the past two years, it’s safe to say we’re all feeling restless. Seasons of disruption force us to ask the bigger, deeper questions and reflect on where we are, and what might be next.  If we’re not asking those questions in the company of wise counselors, we might not be getting the perspective we need to know if we need to move on or root ourselves deeper.

In this week's episode, Jenni has a conversation with Nate Taylor, 4Sight coach and Executive Pastor about how coaching can help leaders navigate these seasons of change, and the two things he believes will make the biggest impact for leaders who feel exhausted and overwhelmed.

Nate is passionate about the Gospel, his family and helping others to flourish in leadership using their unique wiring. He emphasizes a collaborative approach to leadership and loves to work with teams and leaders on implementing staff culture, self-leadership and staff leadership development, strategy and org-charts.

13 Sep 2022Episode 176 | The Exponential ROI of Investing in Leadership Development with Jenni Catron & Trey McKnight00:41:26

As organizations work to shift from reactive to proactive, the key to success will be found in investing in our teams. It’s no longer enough to give people jobs and pay them well. Flourishing, thriving teams and organizational culture require intentional leadership development, something you might not think you have the margin, budget, or resources for. Surprisingly, leadership development is not easy, but it can be simple.

In this week's episode, Jenni and Trey are together again as co-hosts to discuss some of leadership development pain points for senior leaders. Maybe you’re also recognizing that the next level of leadership at your organization might not have the skills you expected or hoped for - fundamental leadership skills like:

  • How to have hard conversations
  • Knowing how to have a 1:1 meeting
  • Leading meetings effectively
  • Good self-leadership
  • Conflict management
  • …and more

With intentional, consistent leadership development, we can recognize potential in our teams and promote leaders who understand the sacredness of leadership, even if they’re not completely ready yet. Jenni and Trey share practical ways to invest in your team, encouragement to just get started, real life examples about how investing in a small group of leaders can maximize your impact, and they introduce 4Sight’s new 6-week practical leadership training cohort, starting October 5th.

For a next step, check out 4Sight's new 6-week leadership cohort! Leadership can be frustrating when you feel ill-equipped to face the daily challenges of leading yourself and leading a team. 20 Sep 2022Episode 177 | How to Influence Culture from the Middle with Jenni Catron00:22:44

In this week’s episode, Jenni answers a listener who emailed to ask, “I’m on the low end of middle management, and our company struggles with all four of the 4 blind spots. However, I feel powerless to do anything about it. What can I do to make a difference when I feel as though my input or desire to make the culture better has little or any value to those over me?”

It is not uncommon, if an organization has been under pressure, that there has been an erosion between their values and behavior. Staff members are responsible for protecting and defending the culture of the organization, and for creating and influencing the culture for their specific sphere of influence, and Jenni offers suggestions that anyone can use if you, too, are leading from the middle:

  • Offer grace - your senior leader’s may not realize there is a culture issue
  • Ask for clarity - hunt for the history of your organization's mission, vision, and values
  • Answer “what’s right, what’s true, and what can I do?” - include other staff members in this conversation
  • Celebrate when you see the values being lived out
  • Model the values within your own sphere of influence

27 Sep 2022Episode 178 | The 6 "Be's" of Communication with Jenni Catron and Trey McKnight00:39:59

If everything rises and falls on leadership, leadership rises and falls on communication. Rarely do leaders intentionally communicate poorly; often they’re just moving so quickly they don’t take the time to think about what needs to be communicated to whom, and we underestimate how critical communication is to leading well. Every time the 4Sight team digs deep with an organization, communication is always at the core. For successful teams, communication fuels good culture, while struggling organizations often lack clarity in their communication.

In this week’s episode, Jenni is back with Trey McKnight to talk about 6 “Be’s” that can help leaders become better communicators. Jenni shares 3 simple questions all leaders can ask to improve communication, how to navigate the tension between over-communicating and under-communicating, and the importance of discerning the communication cascade to discover the most respectful way to communicate this to the right people at the right time.

If you have a question for Jenni, a “be” you use to help become a better communicator, or suggestions for the podcast, email it to: jenni@get4sight.com

04 Oct 2022Episode 179 | Self-Leadership with Jenni Catron00:15:38

We all want to lead our teams well, to make a difference and to be successful in our endeavors. But we've also found ourselves in moments where we feel stuck, or in situations where we look back on our day, bewildered and frustrated, wondering why things just didn’t go well.

Often, our feelings of being stuck or frustrated come back to a simple but difficult truth: we're just not leading ourselves well. That's the bad news. The good news is, it's never too late to learn to lead yourself better! But what exactly are the skills leaders need to be successful? How do we stop making leadership decisions based on our survival and instead focus on the welfare of our teams?

In this week’s episode, Jenni teaches us about a key facet of leading ourselves well: self-awareness. In a study of 72 private and public companies, a high self-awareness score was the overall predictor of success. Self-awareness equips us to lead others in a way that leads to results, and those we influence get our best engagement when we know ourselves well and are leaning into our strengths. In this episode, you'll learn the 3 reasons self-awareness is essential, as well as 3 steps to take toward greater self-awareness.

This week, prioritize time to consider how you would answer this question: What do you:

  • Think
  • Feel
  • Believe

How do others experience you, and what would you like to change?

For a next step, we encourage you to connect with one of our trained and experienced 4Sight Group: Leadership Coaches to help you navigate your self-leadership questions and goals. All leaders agree that the culture of your organization matters. But culture starts with you! Transform your team from disengaged to thriving, from divided to collaborative, and from toxic to trusting.

11 Oct 2022Episode 180 | Discovering What Must Change with Jenni Catron00:18:11

There’s a familiar quote from the Greek philosopher Heraclitus, who said, “Change is the only constant in life.” The tension with this statement is that we are naturally wired for comfort. Perhaps our pursuit is really a longing for peace. Maybe it’s for control. But what we do know is that change is inevitable, so we can either resist it or embrace it.

Logically we know that change is a part of life, and it is certainly a part of leadership, but history is a graveyard of leaders and organizations that were unwilling to navigate change at critical moments. As the leader, the change must start with you. You must embrace it first to lead us through it. You must get gut-level honest with yourself about what must change in order for your organization to thrive

In this week’s episode, Jenni introduces us to the “Keep/Start/Stop” exercise and teaches us how to embrace change with three simple steps that will help us identify what must change, why we’re resisting change, and how we can involve our teams in the process.

We want to hear from you! Email podcast@get4sight.com to share your “what must change” take-away from today’s episode, what questions we can answer in a future episode, or which guests you would love to hear from!

For a next step, we encourage you to connect with one of our trained and experienced 4Sight Group: Leadership Coaches to help you navigate leading through change and determining what must change. All leaders agree that the culture of your organization matters. But culture starts with you! 18 Oct 2022Episode 181 | Navigating Through White-Water with Scott Ritzheimer and Jenni Catron00:35:11

Les McKeown once wrote, “There’s only one place you can ever start leading from: where you are right now.” But what if “where you are” is right in the middle of what feels like chaotic white-water rapids? When everything you’ve always done no longer works to grow your business, where do you go next?

In this week’s episode, Jenni interviews Scott Ritzheimer, Founder and CEO of Scale Architects. Scott helps businesses across the country identify the right growth strategies and find the right guides to get them on the fast-track to Predictable Success and stay there as long as possible.

If you feel like you could use an experienced guide to help you navigate the white-water season you’re in, Scott will help you identify where you are and equip you with the tools you need to get to where you want to go.

For a next step, we encourage you to explore the resources available at Scale Architects:

25 Oct 2022Episode 182 | Leading from the Heart with Steve Caton and Jenni Catron00:46:34

Leading from the heart is about earning influence through relationships rather than authority. It’s developing the art of emotional intelligence. But what if you aren’t naturally wired to be a relational leader?

In this week’s episode, Jenni interviews Steve Caton, Founder and CEO of Altezza. For over 30 years, Steve Caton has been that guy; the one who comes into emerging growth companies and takes responsibility for growing their revenues and developing systems that propel them forward. Steve is probably most known for his leadership at Church Community Builder (CCB), which went from a boutique technology company to a leading Church Management Software platform in the space of 5 years.

Jenni and Steve talk about the importance of relational leadership and how to build that skill if it doesn’t come naturally, the challenges of shifting from a producer to leading teams, practical work/life balance suggestions, and the mistakes leaders make when they’re stressed or uncertain. Steve also shares the three significant values that have shaped his leadership.

For a next step, check out our 4 Dimensions of Extraordinary Leadership Course. Too many leaders feel overwhelmed and ill-equipped to lead. 01 Nov 2022Episode 183 | 3 Elements of a Healthy Culture of Feedback with Jenni Catron00:16:24

According to a Gallup poll, only 26% of employees strongly agree that the feedback they receive helps them do better work. As leaders, providing helpful and productive feedback is a skill that we have to learn. It’s a simple task that takes an extraordinary amount of work and thoughtfulness. So, how do we do it well? How do you create a culture where feedback is given and received; it’s normal and expected; and is appropriate and productive?

In this week’s episode, Jenni shares 3 elements of a healthy culture of feedback and offers encouragement and practical steps to help you evaluate your organization’s culture of feedback. Jenni discusses the importance of shared expectations, the difference between coaching and criticism, and what psychological safety is - and is not.

This week, take an inventory and ask yourself if your organization has shared expectations around feedback, are you giving and receiving feedback as coaching, and how trusting is our environment? Is there anything I can do to help us move forward in creating a healthy culture of feedback?

15 Nov 2022Episode 185 | An Introduction to the Working Genius Assessment with Carey O’Connor and Jenni Catron00:45:27

In his book, The 6-Types of Working Genius, Patrick Lencioni writes, “Teams and organizations that help people tap into their God-given talents are much more successful and productive than those that don’t.” But how do you help your team do that when you don’t have clarity about your own gifts and talents?

In this week’s episode, Jenni chats with Carey O’Connor about one of their favorite team assessments, Lencioni’s Working Genius. Working Genius is 20% a personality assessment and 80% a productivity tool specifically designed for teams. Jenni and Carey are both certified in Working Genius and are passionate about using the tool to help leaders discover the best way to align their teams for success. Carey is a 4Sight Coach and co-lead pastor with her husband who loves helping leaders and teams find clarity & confidence in their roles.

Jenni and Carey unpack working genius, working competency, and working frustration, the three stages of work (ideation, activation, implementation), and why every job is a “6 letter job.” They also offer real-life examples from their own leadership that show why it’s so important to have all 6 working geniuses on your team, and why bringing them in at the right time is essential to productivity and success. Jenni and Carey also offer some practical solutions once you’ve identified potential working genius gaps in your team.

29 Nov 2022Episode 187 | Find Yourself a Stunt-Double with Jessica Honegger, Liz Bohannon, and Jenni Catron00:55:58
During the Covid pandemic, 150 million people were pushed back into global poverty and 20 million girls left the classroom, many to never return again. For companies like Noonday Collection and Sseko Designs, continuing to provide economic opportunities for the communities they have been supporting for over a decade became even more critical - and the best way to do it was by doing it together.

In this week’s episode, Jenni talks with Jessica Honegger, founder of Noonday Collection, and Liz Bohannon, founder of Sseko Designs. Jessica and Liz recently went through a merger & acquisition process and are now serving as co-owners of Noonday Collection. Noonday Collection works with over 30 artisan businesses and over 2500 artisan partners around the world, and has funded a million dollars of adoptions for families in the US.

Jess and Liz share the mission and values that drive them, their passion for collaboration over competition, how going forward together was better for both of them, and what it means to now have a stunt-double business partner.

They also answer questions about how they merged cultures, how coaching helped them work through the change, and why keeping short accounts and giving generous assumptions are critical to their day-to-day success. Jess and Liz model what healthy, God-honoring leadership looks like and what it looks like to collaborate, not compete, as they lean into the best of each other.

10 Jan 2023Episode 188 | Why Employee Fulfillment is Critical to Your Organization with Jenni Catron00:17:19

As we start the new year, perhaps the biggest question that should be at the top of our minds is: how to build a great team. Your team is the lynch pin between your purpose and your strategy. You can have the greatest purpose in the world, and you can have devised the greatest strategy to achieve it, but without a team to make it happen, it’s just a dream.

In Matthew Kelly’s book, Culture Solution, he says:  “Culture is the ultimate competitive advantage of our age.”

Are you leaning into this advantage?

How are you leaning into it this year?

A third of your employees potentially do not feel fulfilled in their work, which makes them nearly 400% more likely to actively look for another job, and 340% more likely to leave the organization within a year. There is a hard cost to not being intentional about creating a culture where employees are fulfilled.

This week, Jenni talks about why employee fulfillment is critical to your organization, what happens when employees are fulfilled (and when they are not), and offers some practical steps to take this week to evaluate fulfillment within your team.

Steps to take this week:

  1. Do some self-reflection - how fulfilled do you feel in your work? Are you more engaged or less engaged as you start this year? Do you derive significance from the work you are doing? If yes - what about it feels fulfilling, and why? If no - where do you feel the disconnect?
  2. Evaluate each of your employees - how fulfilled do they seem? Rate them on a scale of 1-5 (1 = unfulfilled, 5 = extremely fulfilled)
  3. Pay attention to ways you can connect your team to the purpose of your organization

28 May 2019Episode 19 | Joey Furjanic00:32:25

Joey Furjanic has been participating, serving, and focused on partnering with Jesus in building HIS church for more than a decade. Joey's parents moved to Orlando, FL from Philadelphia, PA (for work) when he was really young and God was clearly in the middle of it. Joey met Christ at Faith Assembly of God and got heavily involved. He worked there for three years before shipping off to complete his degree at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. During that time, he served and worked at two places: The Oaks Fellowship and what is now New Community Church. From there, he traveled to Europe and the United States as an itinerant speaker and began consulting smaller churches that desired to grow in an effort to experience their maximum impact.

Eventually, while consulting for Journey Center he met and got to married to his wife Lauren. From there, they took a post at Crossroads Community Church where they oversaw youth ministry for (at the time) their 9 locations. Also, during this time, he was traveling extensively preaching at places like Gateway Church and speaking events like iMatter Festival or at conferences PennDel Youth would host. They were fortunate as well to fill in and speak for teams like the Chicago Bears.

However, the stirring for Philadelphia was too great to ignore and in the fall of 2013, they packed up everything and moved back to Philadelphia to start The Block Church. Lauren and Joey have 2 sons (Maverick) and (Phil the dog).

17 Jan 2023Episode 189 | How to Connect People to Purpose with Jenni Catron00:19:40

The number #1 Culture Trend for this year (from O.C. Tanner 5 Culture Trends for 2023) is that employees want more from their work. “More than a high salary or unique perks and benefits, they want the sense of fulfillment that comes from doing work that has a purpose and feeling that they belong to their workplace community.”

The problem for many team members is that they feel disconnected from that purpose. While the purpose may draw them to your organization, the daily grind of activities can distract them and cause them to feel disconnected from this purpose.

In this week’s episode, Jenni will share why clearly defining your organizational mission, vision, and values is crucial to helping your team have that sense of fulfillment and purpose in their work, with examples from 4Sight to help you as you answer questions like:

  • Why do you do what you do?
  • Do you have clearly defined mission, vision and values?
  • Do you frequently refer to mission, vision and values in conversations and team meetings?
  • Can your leaders define the purpose of your organization in one sentence?

As we’ve mentioned recently, data is telling us that purpose is becoming core to employee engagement. In this week’s episode, Jenni continues this conversation with a look at what passion and purpose mean to the next generation of leaders as she interviews Hannah Gronowski Barnett, CEO and Founder of Generation Distinct.

Since founding the organization in 2018, Hannah has scaled the organization to reach leaders around the globe through her vision to use conversations around passion, purpose, and justice to bring the next generation of leaders into conversations about Jesus, the Gospel, and the Great Commission. Their passion is to help young leaders discover the wrong they were born to make right.

Hannah gives us more insight into why giving the gift of belief is so critical to young leaders, how the passion and energy of young leaders is a reflection of their ownership, and she coaches us on some ways to embrace and encourage that passion for the good of the organizations we lead.

31 Jan 2023Episode 191 | 6 Culture Trends for 2023 [And How to Overcome Them] with Jenni Catron00:22:17

Every year presents its surprises. As much as we try to plan and anticipate what the year ahead will hold, part of leadership is being able to anticipate the possibilities and respond to the realities.

We wholeheartedly believe that your organizational culture should be at the top of your priority list every year, but each year different factors may affect when and how your culture will be impacted. One of the reasons our company is called 4Sight is that we want to equip you to know what to anticipate to help you lead well. We want to equip you with the foresight for success.

This week, Jenni shares the 6 trends she is observing in organizational life that she believes will impact your team culture this year, and offers guidance on how to overcome them. This episode continues our conversation on purpose, why lean, effective teams are essential, the increased pressure on leaders, and more.

By being proactive in addressing these trends, you can combat the effects of them. You won’t avoid them altogether but with greater awareness you’ll be better equipped to lead yourself and lead your team more effectively this year.

07 Feb 2023Episode 192 | 3 Simple Ways Leaders Shape Culture with Jenni Catron00:17:10

Why do leadership and culture go together? Leaders shape culture and cultures shape leaders.

This is the power of culture. And in a season where finding staff is challenging and keeping staff is critical for continuity, creating a culture that enables employees to enjoy their work is a game changer.

If you want a great culture, you have to lead to that culture. If you need to change your culture, you need to lead through the change essential to reshaping the culture. How you’re leading is shaping your culture. You’re either doing it blindly or intentionally.

This week, Jenni shares 3 simple ways leaders shape culture. We’ll talk about how to address challenges and take action to alleviate frustration, how consistently celebrating wins impacts culture, and why you need to quit whining and communicate optimism and hope.

It requires a great deal of self-leadership to be honest about the challenges, celebrate even when you don’t feel like it and stay optimistic, but leading yourself well is critical to leading others and to leading a culture that reflects the best of who you are.

14 Feb 2023Episode 193 | 5 Unexpected Trust-Building Behaviors with Jenni Catron00:25:31

Trust. The elusive relational equity everyone longs for but struggles to know how to build. We take it for granted when we have it, and we are often surprised once we realize we’ve lost it.

The foundational element for every team is trust. Yet time after time when working with leaders on their culture, one of the first issues they cite is lack of trust. They are quick to request a trust-building workshop, or a staff talk on trust.

The problem with trust is that it isn't a one-time initiative, but rather the outcome of ongoing behavior. The opportunity for every leader is that there are simple and consistent things you can do to build trust, and some of the most trust-building activities are things you can control.

This week, Jenni shares 5 unexpected trust-building behaviors that make a significant difference in your culture. We’ll talk about delegation, accountability, communication, and some great questions to ask that will help you create a trustworthy culture and healthy organizational behavior.

Which of these five behaviors is the greatest struggle for you? I encourage you to pick one to focus on first. 21 Feb 2023Episode 194 | How You Might Be Holding Back Your Team & 4 Reasons to Release Them with Jenni Catron00:19:28

Do you ever feel like:

  • Someone may be holding back your team
  • Someone or something is  impeding your growth
  • Something is frustrating and demotivating your staff

Well friends, today we’ll talk about how that someone might be you.

Most leaders intend to be good leaders. You value the importance of leadership, and you recognize the tremendous stewardship opportunity to pour into others, develop them, and rally them around a unified goal.

You work hard to recruit and assemble a great team of people that you enjoy doing life and work with.

The trouble is that, for all your efforts to support, direct, inspire and lead, you may actually be doing the opposite of what you hope.

This week, Jenni shares why your team may actually need less from you and 4 key reasons to define the what but release the how. We’ll talk about who the experts in your organization really are, why a problem-solving culture can result in creative new ideas, how empowerment leads to motivation, and how to determine if your focus is on the what or the how.

Take time this week to ask yourself the following questions:

  • Where are you dictating too many details?
  • Where do you need to define the What, but release the How?

28 Feb 2023Episode 195 | The Value of Meaningful Appreciation with Maddie Minish, Julie Pierce, Genea Browne, and Jenni Catron00:31:08

Simple things consistently done over time shape a culture.

Consistent appreciation of your team over time produces a culture where team members feel valued and know that their contributions are making a difference. Lack of appreciation of your team over time produces a culture where team members doubt or question their value and are unsure of their purpose within the organization.

This week, Jenni is joined by three members of the 4Sight team: Project Manager and Culture Conference coordinator, Maddie Minish; coach and Women in Leadership facilitator, Julie Pierce, and Executive Director and executive coach, Genea Browne for a conversation about the value of meaningful employee appreciation. They discuss what it looks like, how to do it well, and how it impacts culture.

You’ll also hear some simple ways to get started if this is a leadership growth area for you:

  • Start with a simple text
  • Acknowledge their family & include them (i.e. a giftcard to a restaurant they can all enjoy)
  • Start & end your day with 3 thank-you notes - make appreciation part of your routine
  • Encourage staff-to-staff appreciation to celebrate each other
  • Keep it simple and consistent

07 Mar 2023Episode 196 | A Woman Who Leads (lessons from Deborah) with Jenni Catron00:19:01

Have you ever been asked, “What is it like to be a woman leader?” Does it make you feel like being a woman is like having a third eye or some other science-fiction abnormality?

We are leaders who happen to be women. That’s all. Gender shouldn’t define our opportunities or limitations. It shouldn’t dictate whether we’re a good leader or a bad one. It shouldn’t be the thing that holds us back from leading, nor should it be an excuse to be given opportunities that we haven’t earned.

This week, in honor of Women’s History Month, Jenni shares some of her thoughts and perspective on being a woman in leadership. She unpacks four insights from Deborah’s leadership (Judges 4 & 5) and encourages us to keep showing up, be better, be unstoppable, AND be gracious and respectful.

Keep stewarding your influence well - it matters!

14 Mar 2023Episode 197 | Why Expanding, Not Downsizing, Your Leadership Development Budget is Critical with Jenni Catron00:19:32

82% of young adults say, “society is facing a crisis of leadership because there are not enough good leaders right now.” (Barna)

At 4Sight, we are deeply convicted that leadership is sacred work. We get the privilege of investing in the lives of others. This isn’t a right. It’s a responsibility, and the best leaders approach leadership with a sober mentality.

This week, Jenni shares some sobering statistics on the reality of many mid-level leaders and managers who are burned-out, overwhelmed, and actively seeking support and development to be able to lead well, and she shares why expanding - not downsizing - your leadership development budget is critical to your team and your organization.

We, as leaders, need to know and understand the significance of our influence and the power we have to change and affect the lives of those we lead. When we lead from this understanding, we’ll be better equipped to usher in an era of leadership that will rise to the expectations of those we serve.

21 Mar 2023Episode 198 | The Divine Dance of Mid-Level Leadership with Milan Ford and Jenni Catron00:49:52

In our last episode, we talked about the exponential pressure on leaders right now, especially those who are in the mid-level roles of leadership.

This week, Jenni chats more about this topic with Milan Ford. Milan is the Executive Director of Operations at Turning Point Church, located in McDonough, Georgia. With over two decades of ministry leadership experience, Ford has served alongside some of the most influential churches and faith-based organizations in the country.

Milan is incredibly intentional to invest in the development of the leaders on his team. He recognizes the importance of leadership development and consistently is thinking about ways to help his team grow.

Listen as Milan shares how he fights for those opportunities, why he thinks young leaders need to be in the room where decisions are made, the daily and weekly growth tools he uses with his team, how leadership development can help you feel less lonely, the skills Milan feels are critical for leaders to learn, and more.

29 Mar 2023Episode 199 | The Discipline of a Leader: 7 Essentials for Leading a Team to Your Vision with Jenni Catron00:25:38

There is a significant distinction between the leader who is able to compel people to join them in the pursuit of the vision, and the leader who struggles to keep a unified team: it’s the discipline of the leader, not the capability of the followers.

We often hear from leaders that their team “just can’t keep up,” “they don’t know how to lead others,” “they don’t get it,” etc.  Leaders find themselves frustrated with the teams’ inability to keep up with or own the vision. Consequently, the leader gets frustrated and discouraged, the staff or volunteers feel that disappointment, and before long the entire organization has stagnated.

Leaders: you have to learn new disciplines to lead your team to new heights.

This week, Jenni uses her experience climbing Mount Whitney to share 7 key disciplines leaders must embrace in order to lead your team to the vision, and why it’s so much better to share the journey to extraordinary outcomes with others. Slow down, set the pace and experience the success of going together!

11 Apr 2023201 | 4 EQ Principles to Grow Your People Smarts00:22:31

“People are my greatest challenge.”

Whether coaching a pastor or a business executive, we repeatedly hear this phrase muttered in exhaustion. Different leaders... different environments, but the concern is nearly always the same. Leaders underestimate the challenge of leading others.

In Jenni’s work with hundreds of leaders, she has grown convinced that emotional intelligence (or lack thereof) is at the core of our people-issues in leadership.

In today’s episode, Jenni shares the 4 emotional intelligence principles she’s learned that will help you learn to lead yourself well, so you can lead others better. We cannot lead others where we haven’t been ourselves. If you want to have a culture of emotionally healthy people, it must start with you.

18 Apr 2023202 | Managing Your Priorities for Greater Impact00:30:19

There is a similar theme that permeates church leadership culture: We’re all terrified of finding ourselves in the same place and yet we keep doing the same thing expecting different results – and we know what that really is – INSANITY!

So what differentiates leaders who flame out from those who lead well for the long haul?

PRIORITIES

Priorities are the filters that help us succeed in all aspects of life.
Most of the decisions you make are filtered through your priorities.
You are prioritizing all day every day.
The question is, are you prioritizing well?

In today’s episode, Jenni shares 4 practical steps for defining your priorities, discusses the difference between fixed and subjective priorities, and offers guidance and thoughtful questions to help you discern the priorities that will be critical to your success.

Jenni just spent a day with their team talking about all things organizational culture. What she loves about this team is that they asked her to come and talk with them about culture to help them proactively think about their culture as they have some big initiatives and growth ahead. They weren’t reacting to a problem in their culture; they were proactively trying to prepare their team for the season ahead.

While Jenni was there, she got to sit down with Angela… they talked  culture, women in leadership, and a lot of fun things in between. Enjoy this conversation with a dynamic leader!

02 May 2023204 | Rhythms That Reinforce Aspirational Culture00:22:08

The problem with culture: it’s an outcome

To really influence culture we have to be purposeful about what we’re putting into it. We have to ask ourselves, “What inputs will lead to the outcomes we hope for?”

The key to embedding our values into our culture in a way that leads to true behavior change is in creating rhythms that reinforce our aspirational culture at every stage of a team member’s journey.

In today’s episode, Jenni shares how to establish those rhythms in every stage, from interviews and hiring to meetings and celebrations. This incredibly practical episode will help you engage every stage of organizational life with culture in mind.

Remember: What seems like repetition is actually navigation!

16 May 2023206 | “Leading with And” - an Interview with Tim Arnold00:29:23

I recently heard Marshall Goldsmith say that “leaders are better than ever, yet the feedback about leaders is worse than ever. The expectations for leaders have changed.” This immediately resonated with me, and I wanted to find out what leadership expert and author, Tim Arnold, had to say about it.

In this episode, Tim shares the challenges he’s hearing from leaders, the transformational power of “both/and” thinking, and how he coaches leaders who find themselves in an “either/or” approach to help them shift to something new.

Tim Arnold has spent over two decades helping leaders manage complexity, increase resilience, and deliver results, with clients that include The United Nations, Royal Bank of Canada, Allstate Insurance, Compassion International, Toyota, and Siemens. After running both a for-profit business and a homeless shelter, he leverages his real-world experience to help organizations pursue both profit and purpose. Tim’s work focuses on helping leaders unleash the superpower of Both/And thinking in an Either/Or world.

23 May 2023207 | Creating a Culture of Accountability with Jenni Catron00:25:51

While today’s topic is practical and necessary, it’s a leadership skill that we see some organizations struggle with: accountability.

What if your structure or system problem is really a lack of accountability? How do you create a balance of healthy accountability that helps every person contribute at their best level, without micromanaging?

In this episode, Jenni shares 4 principles for creating a culture of accountability, including: clarify expectations, follow up, measure results, and evaluate ROI. When you clarify expectations, you can keep your team accountable while leaving room for how an employee accomplishes those goals - and we can work better, together.

18 Jun 2019Episode 21 | Brian Paradis Author of Lead With Imagination, CEO, Consultant, and Speaker00:38:24

Brian Paradis is a senior partner with CSuite Solutions, a national strategic advisory firm. CSuite Solutions is led by former healthcare industry CEOs focused on the transition and practical strategies to move the healthcare industry from “volume to value.”

Previously, Paradis was president of Florida Hospital’s Central Region, a $4 billion enterprise with over 25,000 employees and 2,000 physicians. Under his leadership, Florida Hospital became the #1 ranked hospital in Florida by US News and World Report for three years. It is the largest hospital to receive the ISO 9001 quality certification and launched a new children’s hospital with an innovative collaboration with Walt Disney World.

Paradis’s understanding of the role of imagination in organizational leadership was used to develop a creative, results-oriented team based on a shared vision driven by a Strategic Innovation Agenda (SIA). He kept a grounding on every strategy and plan by asking “How are we growing our business?” “How are we making our product better?” And, “How are we building our teams’ capabilities?”

Paradis serves his community by focusing his passion on children, family health, and the arts. He has served on the Orange County Public Schools Audit Advisory Committee and the board of the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center. He co-chaired the American Heart Association’s Orlando Heart Walk for two years, which was the first Central Florida walk to raise over $1 million.

Paradis earned a BA in business administration from Southern Adventist University, Chattanooga, TN, is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Management Accountant. He considers himself a continuous learner. He is married, the awed father of five children, and the unexpected owner of three dogs.

30 May 2023208 | The Coaching Habit with Michael Bungay Stanier and Jenni Catron00:38:51

What if the solution to feeling overwhelmed and disconnected was as simple as giving less advice and asking more questions?

Today’s guest, Michael Bungay Stanier believes that staying curious and creating a habit of coaching can resolve many of the leadership challenges we face - while also giving us freedom as we work less but make a bigger impact.

Michael has written books that have sold about a million copies all told, including The Coaching Habit, a self-published book that’s become the best-selling book on coaching this century. He founded a training and development company, Box of Crayons, that has taught coaching skills to hundreds of thousands of people around the world; he’s been happily married for 30 years or so; he created a book in partnership with Seth Godin that raised $400,000 for Malaria No More; he was named the #1 Thought Leader in Coaching and a Coaching Guru; he’s launched several podcasts; and he’s spoken live and virtually to crowds of thousands - and today he’s on the Lead Culture podcast with Jenni!

On this week’s episode, Michael & Jenni talk about why the topic of coaching hit a nerve, why coaching is so critical to leadership, the importance of curiosity, and 7 questions to help you stay curious:

7 questions to help you stay curious:

  1. What’s on your mind?
  2. And what else?
  3. What’s the real challenge here for you?
  4. What do you want?
  5. How can I help?
  6. If you’re saying “yes” to this, what are you saying “no” to?
  7. What was most useful or most valuable here for you?

Your next step? Start small - pick one question and one person and one moment - and stay curious!

13 Jun 2023210 | How We Shape Values & Behavior to Influence Culture00:20:38

How does your team behave?

Kind of an odd question, isn’t it.

Think for a minute about the behaviors of your team. What do they do that you love? What do they do that frustrates you? What do you wish they did differently? How would you describe them?

This analysis of how your team behaves gives you clues as to whether the culture you’re hoping to create as a leader is really being lived out by your team.

In this week’s episode, Jenni helps us discover the questions we need to ask to assess our team’s behavior, how to translate your organizational values into behaviors, and what it looks like for you, as the leader, to model those behaviors.

Because, at the end of the day, great culture starts with YOU.

20 Jun 2023211 | 3 Elements of a Healthy Culture of Feedback00:22:38

Today, we’re going to talk to you about a topic that we often see get overlooked or avoided.

As leaders, we want to attract great team members. We want to build inspiring teams and yet, sometimes we avoid the very things that produce the greatest cultures. Often, those things are simple, but they are extraordinarily hard.

The simple but challenging topic we’re going to tackle today is: feedback.

How do you create a culture where feedback is given and received, normal and expected, appropriate and productive?

In this week’s episode, Jenni helps us answer that question as she shares the 3 elements of a healthy culture of feedback, 4 ways to create feedback loops throughout the organization, 3 questions to consider for giving healthy feedback, and suggestions for what to do when a team member doesn’t receive feedback well.

04 Jul 2023213 | Permission to be Unproductive with Jon Seidl and Jenni Catron00:53:35

There is always something to be anxious about, and it feels like our culture is more anxious than ever before. So, how do we identify where this anxiety is coming from and gain the tools to address it in a healthy way?

Jenni is joined by returning guest, Jon Seidl. Jon is the founder and president of The Veritas Creative, a digital media consulting and content creation firm. For over a decade he has been telling stories. He’s written over 6,000 of them, first after helping start a top-50 news site, then as the editor-in-chief of the popular non-profit, I Am Second, and also created and oversaw Kirk Cameron’s media venture, TheCourage.

Seidl’s passion is to help people with mental health struggles, while also sharing what he’s learned telling stories for—and working with—some of the media’s biggest names and organizations, including Glenn Beck, Kirk Cameron, and Chip and Joanna Gaines. He graduated with a degree in politics, philosophy, and economics from The King’s College in New York City and currently resides in Dallas, with his wife and two children.

In this week’s episode, Jon and Jenni talk about the difference between stress/anxiety and clinical anxiety and why that matters, why we have permission to be unproductive, how to diagnose where your anxiety is coming from, how to reduce anxiety in your workplace culture, and more.

It's all about reclaiming your time, taking advantage of tools and AI to automate tasks, and redirecting that saved time into self-learning, community building, and further delegation.

And lastly, we don't shy away from the nitty-gritty. Let's tackle the cultural pressures church leaders face head-on, from combating the worldly noise to preventing burnout and isolation. Here, we challenge the enemy's lies that can discourage leaders and offer ways to uplift them. And to help even further, we introduce you to the Healthy Church Hub from Ministry Brands, a treasure trove of resources for church leaders. Hear from Scott and Kacie on how to overcome these obstacles, equipped with practical strategies to cultivate healthier leaders and, consequently, healthier churches.
