27 Oct 2014 | Episode 15: Episode 15 - Big Black's From Bulldozer To Atomizer | 01:46:57
Big Black’s aggressive and abrasive music was characterized by distinctively clanky guitars and the use of a drum machine (who they lovingly called Roland) elements which pre-cursored industrial rock. The band acknowledged no taboos and Albini’s lyrics openly dealt with loaded topics including murder, rape, child sexual abuse, and racism. They also held staunch principles, shunning the mainstream music industry and insisting on complete control over all aspects of their career. This podcast attempts to tell a portion of the history of the band from the perspective of their ep Bulldozer through their first full length record Atomizer. (Marking a transition from a project purely conceived by Steve Albini into a cohesive band with the added influences from collaborators Santiago Durango and Dave Riley.) This episode is co-hosted by Russ Forster and includes interviews with band members Santiago Durango, Steve Albini, and Jeff Pezzati, including extra interview material with friend and fellow songwriter/musician Camilo Gonzalez. Lastly an audio piece written by journalist/novelist/radio personality Jim DeRogatis. Russ Forster is a perennial dabbler in the underground and eccentric. Past exercises in cognitive dissonance include Underdog Records, 8-Track Mind magazine, documentaries So Wrong They're Right and Tributary, and various and sundry bands and acts like his current extreme-solo project Rakehell. The Vindictives’ 1999 release of HYPNO PUNKO™ With interviews of each band member represented on the record: Joey Vindictive, Johnny Personality, Billy Blastoff, Jenny Gee, and Angel Ledezma. An eccentric punk rock concept record in the midst of most pop punk bands pushing for a piece of the mainstream? Well… sorta the history. Listen and explore the depth of this very personal record conceived by the band’s frontman Joey Vindictive. Assistant Editor: Jason Brow of the 6ftplus Podcast. 01 Apr 2015 | Episode 17: Episode 17 - Bhopal Stiffs: Songs from the Catalog of a Classic Chicago Punk Band | 01:06:34
Bhopal Stiffs strikes close to my heart. They were the first band Screeching Weasel played with in Chicago, outside of our suburban homes. We played at a 21 and over club that was called Batteries Not Included. There was barely an audience there to see either bands but when Bhopal Stiffs got on stage their energy, music and commitment blew me away. They are first on my top two punk shows that I have ever seen.

17 Dec 2017 | Episode 22 - Grim Deeds & John Jughead - Dueling Interviews | 01:15:25
For Episode 22 We will be introducing a sub format for some episodes from The Basement. To help fill the long periods of time between full band episodes we will now engage in a second endeavor called Jughead’s Basement Presents: Dueling Interviews. In these episodes the interviewer and interviewee will become one, and within a previously dictated amount of time these two will pose questions for each other to answer, hopefully resulting in a somewhat meaningful conversation. Each episode will contain two randomizing elements to lead the questioning in different directions. And each interviewer/interviewee will have two minutes at the end to some up. This podcast will NOT be highly edited, and will be more of a spontaneous exploration of art and music. 21 Dec 2017 | Episode 23 - Sludgeworth’s Losers Of The Year | 01:10:09
This episode finally sees the light of day! I have been working on it for two years. I had dropped it at one point because we could not get the full band involved. But after an email thread with all the participating members it was decided to forge ahead. Sludgeworth was one my favorite bands to watch on stage during the early days of our Chicago scene (1989 - 92). So I am proud to release into the world this long awaited episode, 1995 Lookout Records compilation release of Losers of the Year including interviews with band members: Dan (Vapid) Schafer (vocals) Adam White (guitar) Mike (Strat) Hootenstart (bass) Brian (Vermin) McQuaid (drums) Thanks to my podcast team: Jeromy Corp, Paul Joseph, and Jason Brow. donations to support the podcast can be made on paypal to jugheadsbasement@gmail.com Please support Jughead's Basement by becoming a patron at Patreon https://www.patreon.com/user?u=4145447

01 Aug 2018 | Episode 26 - David Lyons - Lo Fi Interviews | 01:09:42
In this second episode I talk to David Lyons. David is an LA Location Manager. He spends his day finding and managing locations for television and Feature Films. David has been at this job for 15 years and has worked with directors such as Wim Wenders, Noah Baumbach, Sean Penn, Terrence Malick, David Lynch, Mike Nichols, Oliver Stone and JJ Abrahms, to name a few. He also produced pilots for Fox and Adult Swim. David, may be known to many of you as the character Koko in one of the internet video pioneering serial comedy Yacht Rock. I met David when he sang a Weasel song with me at a show hosted by Jonah Ray, in Chicago. I liked him immediately and presented him with a rare gift. It was an empty bottle of Weaselbrau, a brewed beer consisting of only one case of beer Screeching Weasel made in, oh shit, maybe like 1989. This gift blew his mind, and so he invited me to stay anytime with him in LA. And so he made these LA interviews possible. David also has a podcast called "Beyond Yacht Rock", where he and other creators talk about Yacht Rock while defining new, made up genres such as "Disco Dips" where your favorite rock artists attempt to cash in by doing a disco song, or " Africa-dabra", a genre that showcases artists that get inspired by the plights of poor natives after viewing them from the back seat of an air conditioned Range Rover. It's on Starburns Audio, or iTunes, or wherever people listen to that kind of thing now.
