02 Sep 2024Episode 236: Our Guide to The Beatles, "Live at the BBC," Vol. 1 (1994)00:38:10

The Beatles: Live at the BBC was released in 1994. The album contained 50+ tracks from some of the 50+ programs the Beatles played on for the BBC during 1962-65. The album was a big hit, selling over 8 million copies, and it was a particular favorite for Dave and Chris who waited in line at a Best Buy in Champaign-Urbana, IL to buy it and get a free poster! We talk about the album, choose our top 10 songs from the album, choose some of the songs that didn't work very well (usually because of the sound quality), and much more. If you haven't pulled out the album in years, now would be a great time to do so! It was also remastered in 2013, so you could get that version as well.

13 May 2023Episode 213: Making a Beatles 1973 ”Reunion” album!00:42:50

What would've happened if the Beatles reunited to make an album in 1973 based on the four albums recorded that year? We draw from Mind Games, Band on the Run, Living in the Material World, and Ringo to compile a 12-track album that we think would be even better if all four Beatles played and contributed to the songs. Chris and Dave both had different approaches to their album construction, but they both work well as listens. If only that had happened...

Dave's album: Band on the Run, Jet, Photograph, Out The Blue, Don't Let Me Wait Too Long, I'm The Greatest, Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth), Mind Games, Bluebird, Bring on the Lucie (Freeda People), Who Can See It, and 1985.

Chris's album: I'm the Greatest, Band on the Run, Sue You Sue Me Blues, Mind Games, Photograph, Let Me Roll It, One Day at a Time, Give Me Love, Bluebird, Be Here Now, I Know I Know, 1985

17 Sep 2023Episode 218: Put Them In The Movies -- ”The Beatles and India”00:38:12

In this episode, Dave and Chris discuss the 2021 film The Beatles and India. This is a documentary that's just about what it says -- how the Beatles' connections to India began, developed, and ended. Along the way, you'll hear from pundits like Mark Lewisohn and Steve Turner, Patti Boyd, and many others who were in Rishikesh when the Beatles stayed there in 1968. We also discuss one of the most significant revelations the movie points out regarding why the Beatles left India. We think the movie is well worth a watch.
