It’s amazing what can happen when you follow the nudges of your soul. This time, they led me to connect with this week’s amazing guest, Katherine Flynn (you can hear the story behind this in the episode)! In this episode, I share about my experience learning to muscle test. Muscle testing is a technique that allows us to tap into the intuitive wisdom of the body. It relies on the fact that your muscles typically go weak when something is not in alignment. Learning this technique did not come easily for me. I am not entirely comfortable asking definitive, “yes or no” questions, which is necessary with muscle testing. I also discovered I was surprisingly nervous about making mistakes! Learning to muscle test brought me back to those days when I was first learning to tune into my intuition, and the process of learning to trust the messages that were coming through. Such a great reminder of the importance of letting go and not taking anything too seriously, especially when it comes to connecting with our inner wisdom! In honor of Father’s Day and the recent passing of my own father, this episode is dedicated to sharing the gifts he gave me and my personal reflections on processing grief, loss, and the eternal nature of our souls. I also share some wisdom from the guides and my dad (in spirit) around life, death, and the experiences our soul’s may have after crossing over.   Key Takeaways: The human experience is temporary, but the soul is eternal. Even though someone’s human form has transitioned, their soul lives on and can continue to communicate with us. Growing up, I was fortunate to experience a deep bond with my paternal grandfather. When my psychic abilities first began to wake up, I had a brief moment where I questioned if I was losing my mind. Here, I was an Ivy League-trained PhD. talking to spirit guides! The Universe communicates messages to us via “signs” everyday in many different ways. Signs can come in the form of spirit animal messengers, angel numbers, seeing a deceased loved one’s favorite flower at the perfect moment…the opportunities are endless! You are never alone. Your spirit guides are always with you, offering love, wisdom, and support. Darrell devoted the last 20 years of his life to writing a book. Teachings on living joyously make it sound so easy, and it really can be!  The trick is to allow our own joyous nature to shine through, rather than “trying” to be happy.  Toxic positivity arises when we try to force our emotions into submission, rather than living in the now, and releasing attachment to how we think we should be. Loss is an inevitable part of life. As humans we often get lost in the desire to fix the external world, not realizing that the true source of happiness and wellbeing resides within.   In this episode I share one of my favorite tools for getting out of our small minds and that egoic desire to control other people and the course of our lives through connecting with a higher wisdom and knowing. Episode highlights:  Sometimes life feels like it’s happening to us, not for us and we find ourselves in victim mode. Connecting with your higher self and the higher self of others can help snap you out of this limiting mindset. When having a higher self conversation, it is always best to use your intuition, not your small mind, to determine what needs to be communicated.  Having the higher self conversation saves us from wasting our time having conversations on the level of ego, which are much more likely to get misinterpreted and go awry. They also pave the way for more soulful face-to-face conversations down the line.  Higher self to higher self conversations naturally access the higher planes of awareness where the magic happens. All the wisdom you seek already exists within, it is simply a matter of rediscovering what you already know.   Connecting with your higher self can help you with that. This episode is all about celebration!  Celebrating our 100th episode and celebrating the magic of life.  The topic was inspired by one of my favorite songs, Living of Love, by the Avett Brothers.  The first time I heard that song, I could not imagine anything more beautiful than living our lives from the energy of love.  In this episode we discuss the difference between living of love and living in ego, and how we can learn to embrace and express the energy of love in all that we do.  Highlights:  Most people on the planet right now, live mostly from their egoic minds, and have become disconnected from the wisdom and love of their souls.  Earth is in a time of transition where we are moving  from living in fear, scarcity, and ego towards living of love.  Living in love means that we listen to and follow our intuition, rather than our small minds Scarcity thoughts are a sign that we are still living in ego We all have infinite potential. Living in alignment with our soul means asking ourselves everyday 'what is the loving choice here?' You bring your unique personality to earth for a reason. Following our curiosity and joy is listening to our soul. The more we can show ourselves love as we are in this moment of time and honor our divine nature, the more we experience joy and live in alignment with our highest selves. Have you ever heard the expression, “the issues are in the tissues?” In this episode, we explore how our emotions can become stuck on our bodies and get in the way of our optimal well being.  This week’s guest, Rebecca Packard helps clients create emotional balance, release trapped emotions, and live free using a combination of modalities including Emotion & Body Code. Episode highlights: The awakening journey is a continuing process, and not necessarily a single, discrete event.  Rebecca combines her background in emergency medicine and combines that with Emotion Code and her intuition to help clients remove and alchemize negative frequencies. Negative emotions create a physical imprint in our bodies that can lead to dis-ease.  When we release negative frequencies we begin to magnetize the experiences we want instead of the ones we don’t want. Our brains and bodies are wired to hang on to more negative emotions than positive. We can reverse this negativity bias by focusing our attention more on our positive thoughts and experiences.  There are really no “bad” emotions, and all of our experiences serve an important role in human and spiritual journey. We pick up and hold emotions unconsciously but we have the ability to release them. When you do your own inner healing work, the relationships around you often shift. So many people have been writing to me as of late wanting to know how to stay OK, when the world is filled with so much suffering.   With the roller coaster ride of the past two years, many of us are feeling overwhelmed and beaten down by compassion fatigue.  In this episode, we focus on how you can stay in your own highest, and truest energetic vibration, even when those around you are suffering, and why doing so is a gift not only to yourself, but to the world as a whole.   Episode highlights: Many of us have learned that caring means sharing in other people’s suffering.  But nothing could be further from the truth. Caring simply means that we honor the integrity of another person’s experience.  The best way to help heal the planet is to lend your highest vibration to the collective. The joy you feel in the present moment especially when the world is in a dark place is the joy the world needs to help get through the darkness. We are here to experience all of the human emotions, and sometimes they will be the ones that don’t feel as good to us. You can have compassion for others who are having a hard time and suffering without being pulled into their vibration. Unconditional love is honoring  the process of life in all its aspects, even the ones that don’t feel good emotionally or make sense to your mind.  If you are someone who feels like you have to fix everyone’s pain, please meditate on that. Honoring someone else’s experience means being a witness to their experience.  The more unconditionally loving and neutral we can be, the deeper the healing. Seeing others in pain can naturally bring out our desire to soothe and to care for them.  In this episode, we explore the difference between empathy and sympathy and how we can support others through their life’s challenges without disempowering them.   Episode highlights: The difference between seeing people in “the red” and in “the green”   When we have sympathy for another person, we see them as broken and needing our help to be “fixed.” Empathy, on the other hand, sees the other person as powerful and complete.  True “helping” and healing is reconnecting others with their own inner resources. When seeking support, it is important to find people who empower you. Every challenge we face is here to benefit the evolution of our soul. We are all conduits of the divine.  When we support another person, we are acting in service to a higher power. When we look for sympathy instead of support we are disempowering ourselves. When we truly experience unconditional love we see ourselves and others as whole, complete and a spark of the divine. We live in a world that emphasizes doing and achieving above all else, and promises happiness only when we have worked hard enough to earn it.  The result for many of us is burnout.  That was the story of this week’s guest, Glenda Lane, who experienced burnout after the death of her mother.   Today, Glenda teaches energy drained, people pleasing, high-achieving women who are struggling with balancing all their responsibilities, that there is another way with more ease and spaciousness that doesn’t cost their health and well being. She has combined 30 years as a physical therapist and 10 years as an intuitive soul guide, merging science and spirituality to help women tap into their innate body wisdom, remember who they really are and make choices that are aligned with their true nature.    Episode Highlights:  We often teach what  we need to learn.  Both Glenda and I share how that has been our experience.  As a society we have been operating in a distorted masculine paradigm of hyperdrive and “go, go, go.” For many of us achievement comes at a cost of our health and wellbeing.  We discuss the difference between acting from fear and acting from love.  The hormones that occur during fight or flight, can become additive to our bodies.  This is not sustainable and causes burnout. The Law of Attraction teaches us that everything is energy, and that we attract into our lives that which matches our current vibration.   When understood in this way, our life becomes a mirror for our inner state of being, showing us where our soul is still longing to grow and expand, and our lives become the perfect vehicle for our own personal growth and development.  We attract experiences and things into our lives which match our energetic vibration.  In this way, the events and experiences in our lives give us feedback about our internal state.  We are all complex beings, sending out a variety of energetic messages that may be reflected back to us in the form of our “external” experiences.   It is important to treat yourself and the experience in life without judgment.  It is not “your fault” when “bad” things happen.  You are simply in the process of becoming more conscious in the way that you co-create your life.  From the soul's perspective, there is no judgment, only an array of possible choices and experiences.  Every step you take in life is golden.  The goal is to keep moving forward with joy, love, inspiration and awareness. I love going for walk and talk  “sessions” with my guides.  I pose a question, put on my headset, hit record and wait to see what guidance comes through.   I thought I would try something similar this week for the podcast.  My question was about how to feel more self-confident.  As always the guidance that came through was both surprising and inspiring!   Tune in as we learn:  How self confidence can mean different things, depending on which “self” you identify with:  Your ego or your higher self.    “Issues” with self-confidence usually come from our early childhood conditioning, and our perceptions about how we measure up to societal values and expectations. Sometimes a lapse in self-confidence can open us up to trusting in a higher power, because we learn to let go of the egoic ideas of how we should be and let our higher self take the lead.  As we learn to love ourselves as we are, we make space for our higher selves to shine through.  True self-confidence comes from the understanding that life is a beautiful collaboration between our human selves and the divine. Does talking about your uncomfortable thoughts and feelings help you to feel better, or keep you trapped in the cycle of chronic complaining?  In this episode we explore the subtle differences between catharsis and complaining, and how we can discern the difference between releasing emotional energy and getting lost in the energy of complaint.  Catharsis is the process of releasing strong, or repressed emotions by bearing witness. Catharsis is an important part of traditional psychotherapy, dating back to the work of Sigmond Freud.   There is a subtle difference between catharsis and complaining.  The former brings peace, the latter increases our feelings of discontentment.    Complaining feeds the story about everything that is wrong with the world.  Catharsis occurs when we are able to fully witness and honor the full range of our human experiences and emotions. We all experience periods in our lives of great upheaval, where the structures, people and/or beliefs that we may have relied on in the past, all seem to be falling apart.  While these periods can be challenging, they also offer great opportunities for personal and spiritual growth.  These periods, often known as Dark Nights of the Soul, are becoming increasingly common both individually and collectively.  In this episode, I reconnected with my soul brother, Mark Youngblood, founder of Inner Mastery, Inc., to explore how we can thrive through a dark night of the soul.  Here are some of the key takeaways from the episode: We are collectively and individually going through dark times as Earth is transitioning to a higher level of being. The more we understand what we are going through, can flow with it and be in a state of acceptance, the gentler and more peaceful the dark night of the soul experience will be.  Dark nights come in a variety of forms and can vary in their intensity.  Some feel like minor life glitches and shifts of perception, while others can be experienced as complete upheavals to our whole way of being.  It’s important to have a set of transformational tools to support us, help us to release old emotions, clear our energy and shift our thoughts. When we get triggered, it can sometimes feel like we are going backwards, but these moments actually give us an opportunity to practice our spiritual tools, and respond to our past conditioning with a deeper level of awareness.  It’s important to surround yourself with people who will support you in your highest vibration. Our culture bombards us with messages of how we should and shouldn’t look, and what we should and shouldn’t eat.  There are so many rules (many of which are constantly changing) about what is “good” and “healthy” and what is “bad” and “should be avoided.”   We all have the innate wisdom to guide us in nourishing ourselves on the physical, emotional and spiritual levels.  In this episode, we explore ways to reconnect with the wisdom of our bodies, and to eat more intuitively.  Episode highlights: Intuitive eating is about feeding yourself what feels good in your body rather than what you think is good for you.  True health begins when we learn to feed ourselves from a place of self-love, rather than judgment and fear.  Intuitive eating is about tuning into what feels right in the present moment, and following your own natural inclinations.  No diet or exercise regimen is “healthy” if it is based on self-judgment. Joy is your birthright and the natural state of your soul.  Yet, so many of us struggle to find and maintain the vibration of joy throughout our daily lives.  In this episode, we welcome my soul sister and new BFF, Lisa McCourt, who shares her tips for raising your vibe and living in joy.  Lisa is the founder of Joy School, host of the Do Joy podcast, and the author of vibration-elevating books that have sold over 8 million copies. The more joyous we feel, the more that joy can spill out and uplift others. The goal of a good intuitive reading is to get you out of your head, and reconnect with your own divine wisdom.  In this Episode, single mom Hanna came looking for some guidance around returning to the world of dating after a 9-year hiatus.     Here are some highlights about what the guides shared and affirmed within Hanna: By healing from a past relationship, we can move forward in new relationships from a position of strength and empowerment. We are never responsible for someone else’s actions and perceptions. We are only responsible for ourselves. Before we’re birthed as children, our soul chooses our parents and the life lessons that come with that. A parent’s role is not to prevent anything bad from happening or to control what happens to their child, but to support them by making them feel seen, heard and loved. Remember not to change yourself for anyone. Be positively and truly you, and the right person will see your light. If you have to change or be less of yourself for someone, they’re not the one. This podcast brings me so much joy, but sometimes what feels missing is YOU and your engagement and interaction alongside me. Tarot, oracle and positive affirmation decks are a wildly popular and helpful tool to assist us in connecting with our intuition.  In this episode, I share my personal experience using oracle cards and share some insights into the helpful and less helpful ways of using them. Cards are meant for playing, so let’s have fun with this one!  Key takeaways:  Oracle cards can help us get out of our mind, surrender to any possible outcome and connect with our inner wisdom. Some potential pitfalls of oracle cards include overthinking the meaning or misinterpreting the message of a card. There is no such thing as “bad” cards. All cards have a divine message and are neutral, loving and supportive when they come from the soul level.  Use discernment when choosing an oracle deck. We all have a voice in our heads that criticizes, complains, steals our joy, and if we are not careful, can take over our lives. In this episode, we discuss how to have a loving relationship with our inner critic and how we can use the power of attention and intention to create more space around our thoughts and treat ourselves with more love and compassion.  Key Takeaways: You are not your thoughts or your mind. You know those moments where someone says or does something, and you immediately feel yourself taken out of a state of ease, flow and grace? Maybe someone cuts you off in traffic or a family member makes a comment that reminds you of past trauma. We call these triggers, and we all experience them. In this episode, we discuss how to know when you’re triggered and the best ways to respond when it happens.    Key Takeaways: Even the most enlightened beings get triggered sometimes.  It’s nothing to feel bad about and there’s nothing wrong with you, it’s just part of the human experience!  The trick is in how you respond.  When we’re unconsciously triggered, we react rather than respond and can create more problems. It’s not about not being triggered by anything, but knowing when you’re triggered, bringing awareness to it and not reacting from that space.  Recognizing when someone else is triggered and having compassion for them doesn’t excuse bad behavior, but understanding that we’re all human and that they’re acting from their trigger helps you take a step back and look at the situation from a higher place of love, joy and alignment.  You can become more aware of your triggers by simply setting an intention. Ask your guides to assist in showing you when you’re in the light and when you’re off, and to help become aware and bring yourself back to center. Watch as your awareness grows! All triggers are a blessing that show us something that needs more love and compassion within us. Triggers help us heal once we consciously become aware and process them!
