Szabados is always a delight to talk to, and one of the greats of the game, so we were tempted to save this engaging and informative 45-minute interview to celebrate Episode 100 of InGoal Radio. But that would be doing a disservice to our listeners because that milestone episode drops on New Year's Eve and by sharing now there is still time to get a copy of her new book, which has received rave reviews, delivered in time for Christmas! Be sure to check out Szabados' book about a bunny who just wants to play sports but has to deal with criticism from others through Amazon. 26 Nov 2020 | Episode 95 Collin Delia | 01:57:25 | |
Episode 94 of the InGoal Radio Podcast presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports features more than an hour with the man Woody dubs "The Most Interesting Goalie in the World," Collin Delia of the Chicago Blackhawks. In that feature interview presented by Sense Arena, Delia, who looks to take on an increased role in Chicago this season with the departure of Corey Crawford, was a fascinating and open interview with a decidedly laid back feel that we all enjoyed. You'll learn a bit about his life as a new father, starting hockey as a roller hockey goalie in California, living, his Swiss coaching roots, and training in Chicago now and getting outside your comfort zone. You'll also hear about life inside the NHL bubble as a black ace where he had to take control of his own training - a good lesson for all goaltenders. Of course if you love gear, you'll enjoy all the chat about modifying his gear to dial it in and even fix it himself. While it doesn't come up in the interview, we wonder if perhaps that led to Delia and his partner starting the Portiere Leather Company. All that, plus another trip to The Hockey Shop for a fresh and fun video gear segment as Woody and Cam complete their Two Men in Chests mini-series looking at the Vaughn Velocity V9 Pro Carbon Senior Chest & Arm Protector, with some adjustability features we loved, plus added protection with that same Vaughn mobility goalies love.

Episode 111 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features Garret Sparks, who is currently playing with the Calgary Flames American Hockey League affiliate. Sparks passion for the position shines through in this feature interview, presented by Sense Arena. He shares many of the lessons he has learned during eight years of pro hockey that included a storybook NHL debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs. And while many of them are on the ice as he continues to evolve his approach and improve his efficiency (but not at the expense of those instinctual saves) at age 27, some of the most important lessons have come off the ice. That includes his work this summer with Ian Mack of Tomahawk Science, a trainer most famous for clients like Patrick Kane and Auston Matthews, and how he's better tied his training off the ice to his improving movements on the ice. It also involves his approach and mindset to the position, and rediscovering the joys that first drew him to it, a lesson gratefully received by playing partner Calgary puck-stopping prospect Dustin Wolf in his first pro stint before recently going back to the WHL. There's a lot to unpack, and Sparks sincerity shines through to make it an enjoyable conversation that anyone who plays this position will enjoy. All that, plus another trip to The Hockey Shop where Cam shares the features and some early personal feedback from his experience testing the True 2-piece goalies skate, as well as huge pro return savings on other models. While that run made Hammond famous, it's far from the more fascinating part of his journey, which included uncertainty beyond his time playing tier-2 junior hockey in BC, then the same unsettled future towards the end of his NCAA career at Bowling Green. Hammond shares valuable lessons from each step, as well as from his time in the NHL before and after the Senators run, and the reason he felt he played better when he was at the highest level, including a .939 see percentage with the Colorado Avalanche in the 2018 playoffs, and a .920 with the Montreal Canadiens just last season, before suffering an ankle injury that ultimately forced him to announce his retirement last week.
