Skinamarink, Knock at the Cabin, and Banshees of Inisherin - Movie Review and Deep Dives
01:24:59
True 1st episode, come with us and let's make history! We review Skinamarink, Knock at the Cabin, and Banshees of Inisherin.
First up, Skinamarink (2023), directed by Kyle Edward Ball (We cover some WILD theories). Then we have Shyamalan's Knock at the Cabin (2023), and then we finish with Oscar Best Picture contender Banshees of Inisherin (2022) deep dive!
Skinamarink is a dark and twisted voyeur into your childhood house but with a twist.. what if the noises that surround you as you fall asleep to the buzzing of the TV, the light it emits enveloping you, protecting you from the darkness. What if those sounds actually are sinister? What if the darkness is actually hiding something?
Skinamarink is an experimental horror movie by Kyle Edward Ball that will undoubtedly be polarizing, but I encourage you to watch it, experience it at night, in a theater…. And let your imagination run wild.
Knock at the Cabin is Shyamalan's next iteration of cryptic apocalyptic goodness (potentially), so you know we had to see it! Adapted from the novel Cabin at the End of the World by Paul G. Tremblay, M. Knight takes us on a journey to the edge of humanity where you are kept guessing and truly contemplative of the possibility.. is Dave Bautista crazy.. or are he, Ron (Rupert) and the gang actually speaking truth. Is the end of the world truly upon us?
Last but NO WAY is it least, Banshees of Inisherin! Oscar best picture frontrunner and just an all-around brilliant film, The shots were paintings, the acting other worldly, and the writing and language poetry. Watch the movie, take the lonely journey, and see how you feel afterwords. Contender in the upcoming Oscars and we would LOVE for you to join us on our deep dive and movie review!

Ari Aster Masterclass: Hereditary and Midsommar Movie Review, Deep Dive, and Exploration
01:58:44
Hereditary (2018) changed the horror movie landscape, FOREVER. Hereditary immediately etched its way onto the horror film Rushmore, and with Beau is Afraid coming out this Friday 4/21/23, we wanted to revisit Ari Aster's theatrical releases prior to his next banger!

Up next, thought you were safe in the sunlight!? Not in the summer of 2019, enter Ari Aster's Midsommar (2019). Ari Aster wasted no time at all with starting the production of this film the same week Hereditary was to go to wide theatrical release, and there must be something to his can't stop worth ethic and creative process because he dropped another banger on us in the form of this gothic Scandinavian fairy tale! Florence Pugh's breakout performance, Ari's incredible writing, and the haunting score of The Haxan Cloak create a trip (ambiguous in a sense) to Sweden you won't sure forget. Come on a beautifully lit, colorful, unforgettable journey throughout Northern Europe and visit an unforgettable Swedish mid-summer festival and the eclectic cult that throws it! Be warned, you may not make it out alive.

Hereditary is a force of nature, and Midsommar is right there with it, come with us as we journey through them both and figure out what Ari was getting at, and what makes these films so darn unforgettable that they were almost immediately apart of the genre film zeitgeist.

Last but OH MOST CERTAINLY not least, Steven Spielberg's most underrated movie! His BEST movie, I argue in this episode valiantly- Minority Report (2002). Tom Cruise and Spielberg take us on a sci-fi dystopian nightmare journey that will leave you absolutely enamored with suburb storytelling, killer visuals, and beautiful mix of Orwell and Fincher that you simply won't see coming. We go in on Minority Report, go watch it and join us in 2054's D.C. that is absolutely murder free! And that's a good thing, right? Right?
**Please bare with us, we will resume our in-person recording next week! Life happened, and unfortunately the quality simply isn't there remote, and we are truly sorry for that! Beau is Afraid, A Scanner Darkly (2006), M (1931) Movie Review and Deep Dive
01:59:42
Ari Aster's Beau is Afraid is first up, spoiler free review! From the auteur that gave us Hereditary and birthed Midsommar comes his third feature film, Beau is Afraid! Ari Aster said after horror, his third film would be either a melodrama or a comedy- Joaquin Phoenix's legendary performance in Beau is Afraid gives us both! The Odyssey if the epic was told while you were on copious amounts of edibles, this is a movie you have to experience to be a part of the insanity that is the conversation surrounding this divisive film.
Unique cinema is the theme of this episode, and Richard Linklater's A Scanner Darkly fits that theme perfectly! A Scanner Darkly is considered a fictional biography by Philip K. Dick and this incredibly unique Rotoscoping technology and animation was the most insane, and I argue perfect, way to bring that novel to life! Keanu Reeves, ever heard of him!? What about the infamous Winona Ryder, Robert Downey Jr., and the great Woody Harrelson!? This film is STAR studded and will probably be one of the most unique movies you've ever seen but never heard of, fix that now and go watch this one because we deep dive into A Scanner Darkly (2006) and spoilers ensue!
Last but certainly not least, 1931's German Expressionist film M. M, Original title: M - Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder, is Fritz Lang's dark masterpiece right after the silent film era, and right before he and Peter Lorre fled the Nazis, but maybe the Metropolis director's best movie! M (1931) is regarded as the first modern serial killer movie EVER, and boy does it fit the bill. The police in a German city are after a child-murderer, yet he eludes them. Then the mob gets involved in what becomes one of the greatest manhunts ever to be captured on film. A mixture of German expressionism, noir, and almost monster film comes together to create an unforgettable masterpiece and IMDB's top 100 movies of all time! Explore M with us and find out why this nearly 100 year old movie still holds up, still has the most haunting and chilling opening scene in cinema history, and what makes this movie that even the Nazis fought back against so special!
Viva la Cinema!

Georges Franju directs Eyes Without a Face at the height of the French New Wave, yet this horrific story was nothing even close to that movement. Starring Pierre Brasseur, Alida Valli, Juliette Mayniel is an incredibly haunting tall about a father surgeon that, after a horrific accident that left his daughter's face mangled, finds victims one by one and removes THEIR FACE in effort to transplant it to his daughter Christiane Genessier! If that amazing premise doesn't grab your attention, how about this..
John Carpenter's Halloween. Have your eye now? Michael Myers' mask is inspired by the mask in Eyes Without a Face! Do not miss this cult horror classic that multiple countries tried to censor, with ours (America) being the worst! We finally got this film to VHS in 2001! And even then it was heavily edited. But Eyes Without a Face now sits on HBO Max, go watch it now and listen to our super deep dive into a foundational horror movie, one of the best genre films to ever exist!

Fast X, Insidious (2010), Superbad (2007) Movie Review and Deep Dive
01:59:13
The 10th installment of the Fast and the Furious saga, FAST X! From street racing to space, where does our crew ( Vin Diesel, Jason Momoa, AND SO MANY CAMEOS) end up in Fast X!? Listen to us rev our engines as we give you a spoiler free review of Fast X, in movie theaters now! Does Vin Diesel say 'family' too much, or is it a continuation of the great American action flick?! Listen and find out!
Then, for our HORROR fanatics, we have a special deep dive for you! INSIDIOUS! James Wan's 2010 horror MASTERPIECE, that's right, masterpiece, is such an incredibly fun movie and even more fun to deep dive and journey through it on the podcast! I'll never forget the feeling of those 27 violins screeching through my skull as the blood red INSIDIOUS title card flashed across the screen, and we are here to remind you of this horror movie gem too! We truly deep dive into details you may have missed, behind the scenes trivia, and so much more in the Further- come join us! Also, use this episode as prep for Insidious: The Red Door, coming to us from Patrick Wilson this July! But if you read nothing else, read this- James Wan and Leigh Whannell are a combo that a horror fan simply can't miss!
The best R- comedy ever!? The last great high school comedy?! Lighting striking on a script a decade in the making giving us a nearly instant CLASSIC- SUPERBAD (2007)! As if this iconic comedy needs an introduction, allow me to give one anyway; Superbad was given to us by Greg Motolla with the script a lifetime in the making from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and you just KNOW Judd Apatow gave some feedback and inserted his DNA into this film- especially the heart. And man was Judd on a bender during the 2000s! Superbad is so much more than meets the eye, if you gloss over this as a sex-crazed teen comedy then we aren't watching the same movie. Come on a trip with JT and me as we show you this film through a lens you may haven't viewed it, and give our argument for why this movie is absolutely already a classic, and much better than it had any right to be.
From Emma Stone's acting debut, to Jonah Hill and Michael Cera being the most believably highschool buds ever, to the infamous McLovin, who is not a famous Irish R&B singer, but is actually played brilliantly by then high-schooler Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Oh, and when this movie splits into almost two films, do not forget the best buddy cop duo of ALL-TIME- Seth Rogen and the great Bill Hader. This movie was a crossroads of amazing talent at just the right time in all of their lives to create an unforgettable coming-of-age millennial time capsule that simply lives in the zeitgeist for now and all eternity.
Let's talk about some incredible movies! And Fast X.

The Little Mermaid (2023), Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1965) Movie Review and Deep Dives
01:58:49
Disney's live-action The Little Mermaid is in theaters now, and we cover it here in a spoiler free movie review for you! Does the new Little Mermaid live up to the hype, or drown with the fishes?! (fish can't drown I suppose, point remains) Is Halle Bailey next up and knock your socks off as Ariel!? Not to mention Javier Bardem as King Daddy, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, and so many more in the colorful cast of characters that makes up the live-action The Little Mermaid! We cover it and let you know if this movie is worth your hard earned time and money!
Spiderman, Spiderman, does whate.... GLITCH* Welcome to the Spider-Verse. In 2018 NOBODY was ready for what was coming. At first glance, geez yet another Spider-man movie, but you would be right and wrong in that line of thinking. Insert Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse! Animation is cinema, and this movie is S-Tier and an Oscar winner! We take a deep dive into and through Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in which we cover what makes this movie so special, the incredible cast of characters (to name a few: Jake Johnson as the show-stealer, Nicholas Cage, Chris Pine singing a Spider-Man Christmas special, Shameik Moore, John Mulaney, Mahershala Ali, and so many more!) , and the most beautiful and out-of-this-world next evolution of animation you have EVER SEEN! Plus, an incredible story to boot, thanks to Bob Perischetti, Phil Lord, and co! Journey with us through what we argue may not only be the best Spider-Man movie ever, but animated, and even close to the top just as a movie in general. This movie is super special, take the ride with us in prep for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse which comes to theaters THIS THURSDAY! (6/1/23)!
Miles Morales dons the mask cooler than any spidey to come before him, don't miss his incredible story and a movie that truly encapsulates a comic book coming to life with state-of-the-art animation, unmatched creativity, and a story with unending heart! You will see visuals in this film you haven't seen before, we promise.
Up next, HORROR CLASSIC corner! Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)! That's right, the OG Body Snatchers. Directed by Don Siegel and starring Kevin McCarthy (ironic surname for this film), Dana Wynter, and Larry Gates, Invasion of the Body Snatchers invaded audiences over a half-century ago and yet our fascination with this pop sci-fi horror story has never wavered. This movie has been made 4 times, but you have to go to the beginning to see why and what's so special and unnerving about this incredibly creepy novel turned film. Beautiful black and white, 1950s Americana, oh, and you can't trust your neighbor. From the Hollywood Blacklist to McCarthyism and commies, this movie has been dissected and studied for years all the while the director says it is only surface deep. Regardless of the meaning you take from it, which is the beautiful thing about art, this is an awesome movie and we'd love to have you join us as we dive right into the 1950s, pods, and aliens and get into the headspace of the turn-of-the-century Atomic Age audience that would've sat down to enjoy this ride of a movie! Horror is where the heart is, and this movie absolutely lives up to its accolades.
Please consider leaving a 5-star review, we hope we earned it, and staying tuned to what we have coming next for all of you beautiful cinephiles! Until then, remember, we watch WAY more movies than you!

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, The Boogeyman, Casablanca (1942) Movie Review and Deep Dive
01:53:58
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse spoiler-free movie review! Miles Morales came onto the cinematic Spiderman scene in 2018 in Into the Spiderverse, well he and his incredibly unique and out of this world cast of other Spider-people are back and better than ever! Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is one of the most anticipated theatrical releases of the year, but can it live up to the hype of the 2018 Oscar winner!? Can it possible go bigger in story, writing, animation, and world building that it's absolutely incredible web-slinging predecessor!? Find out as we give you a spoiler-free review of the newest, craziest, wildest Spider-Man movie! Best Spidey film ever!? Best villain ever!? We debate, get in here! Also, Spider-Punk, enough said.
What's your favorite scary movie!? I can tell you some of my favorite horror talent in the genre film space, and that list would absolutely include nearly every person involved in the making of The Boogeyman (2023)! Directed by Rob Savage, giver of the amazing pandemic film Host (2020) filmed entirely via Zoom, and then writers Scott Beck, Bryan Woods, and Mark Heyman, the first two of which gave us A Quiet Place, and one of my favorite recent horror movies- Haunt (2019)! Oh, and the source material is a Stephen King short story, ever heard of him? So does The Boogeyman carry the PG-13 can be horrifying torch of Insidious and The Grudge, or does it fall short in the confines of those MPAA restrictions? Listen to our spoiler free review of The Boogeyman and find out! I will say this, some of the most unique perspectives, directorial speaking, on lighting I have ever seen. Some of the most creative lit scenes I have ever witnessed in a film reside inside The Boogeyman. Now check under your bed, BOO, it's our podcast! Forgive me.
Who loves cinema? Who doesn't love that Golden Age of Hollywood and all of the incredible pictures that reside there!? Well we are bringing you a film from the height of old school Hollywood, a motion picture that captured the heart of a world fraught in fear and in search of hope. When art becomes something more, well, we love that. Introduce... Casablanca (1942)!
'Of all the gin joins in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.' Well consider our podcast a gin joint in northern Africa, the French controlled area of Morocco, Casablanca! We strive to be as cool as Rick's Cafe Americain here on our movie podcast, but alas we know we'll always fall short. But we'll always have Paris. Okay, I'll stop, for now. But there is a reason Casablanca has been apart of the American cinematic zeitgeist since it hit theaters back in 1942, it simply doesn't miss. From the incredible writing, to the seemingly modern-day pacing, to the mixing of genres such as noir, German expressionism, romance, to the absolutely captivating setting, and not to mention the unbelievable heart and punch this movie manages to pack- Casablanca is a masterpiece, so please come with us to Morocco and find out what makes it so.
From Humphrey Bogart playing America, I mean Rick Blaine, to the deliriously talented cast of Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid, Claude rains, Conrad Vedit, and the amazing Peter Lorre- there is a reason this movie is incredibly quotable, and it isn't just the fantastic writing, it is the beautiful way in which the dialogue oozes the exposition in such a charming manner that before you know it you're right there at Rick's boozin' with the cast! And the behind the scenes of Casablanca add to its marvel and intrigue, starting with Hungarian director Michael Curtiz and a cast of actors that actually escaped Nazi Germany playing the Nazis! Casablanca was shot on the precipice of the entire globe coming to a potential halt, and with evil on its heels. From what was thought to be locked into the past within the Great War comes evil once more- the world needed hope. Casablanca.

The Flash is directed by 2017 It's Andy Muschietti Spaghetti, staring Michael Keaton, Ezra Miller, Sasha Calle, and some all-star cameos I don't want to spoil here! Does the Flash go by in a hurry, leaving you to pick up the pieces? Or is it the perfect storm of comic book movie glory that obliterates the DCEU and paves way for Gunn's DC? Listen and find out nerds! Plus, MICHAEL KEATON's BATMAN is back- does he live up!? Duh. But listen anyway. Plus, would you believe me if I told you Supergirl steals the show? Come find out.
Up next is the highly anticipated, among horror fans, The Blackening! The Blackening finally found its way to theaters and I couldn't wait to watch it- the infamous Trump trailer was hysterical, but does Tim Story's horror comedy live up to the bar set in the trailer, or did the film show its hand too early? Starring Antoinette Robertson, Dewayne Perkins, Sinqua Walls, Jay Pharaoh, and the scene-stealer Jermaine Fowler, we take a trip to a remote cabin in the woods on Juneteenth and follow our hilarious cast as they are stalked by a killer I can only describe as a black-masked racist version of The Collector! Peak your interest? Find out if The Blackening is worth the trip to the movie theater in our entirely spoiler free review!
Have you ever heard of Star Wars? Roger that. Ever wondered when Han Solo aka Harrison Ford was discovered, and how the heck it happened because he was a carpenter! What if I told you there was a movie that came before Star Wars by George Lucas, and that if it wasn't the success it was that he may have never got his epic space opera made? Welcome listeners to a stone cold classic film, American Graffiti! Welcome to maybe the best coming-of-age and one-night films of all time, with the immediate opening to a drive-in burger joint in Modesto, California, in 1962- that frozen in history heavenly time after WW2 but before Vietnam, where the mating ritual was done by the cars, the hair was slicked back, and cruising the strip was how you spent your nights. American Graffiti (1973) has one of the greatest soundtracks of all time, launched George Lucas, with the help of Godfather's Francis Ford Coppola, into Hollywood stardom. The plot is simple enough, a group of teens in Cali's central valley spend one final night after their high school graduation cruising the strip with their buddies before they each go off into separate directions in their lives. The plot is brought to life by Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Paul Le Mat, and so many more! But the magic is in the movie, do NOT miss our deep dive into this classic. See you in '62!

Insidious: The Red Door Spoiler Free Review, 'Insidious' Films Ranked
02:04:13
In 2010 James Wan's 'Insidious' shocked movie theaters across the world with one of the most creative and downright terrifying horror films EVER! Now 13 years later Patrick Wilson directs and stars in the 5th installment to the Insidious franchise, Insidious: The Red Door. We cover Insidious 5 in a spoiler free review, and take you through the return of our beloved Lamberts, but even better... The Further! Oh, and Darth Maul, maybe... aka Lipstick Demon! (shown in trailers).
We then cover Insidious (2010), Insidious: Chapter 2, Chapter 3, and The Last Key, and then we give our Insidious films rankings including where The Red Door fits into this haunting universe!
We do spoiler the older films, so watch them first. And even if you never plan on listening to this but somehow stumbled upon it, please stop what you're doing and watch this incredible franchise. Insidious changed the trajectory of the horror film back in 2010, and for good reason! Insidious has one of the greatest stories ever told on the once silver screen, taking a ton of genre film tropes and absolutely turning them on their heads, repainting them, and having a blast throughout!
When the 33 violins cut through the air of my movie theater back in 2010, my life forever changed. I never wanted to leave the hellish purgatory that is The Further, I wanted to know more about the 'mannequins' and the other devilish inhabitants, and i loved and rooted for the Lamberts as if they were my own family. James Wan and Leigh Whannell crafted one of the greatest horror stories ever, please do yourself a favor and go get lost in this franchise and report back- I'd love to read your thoughts over a 5 star review! But you may want to bring Tucker and Specs along with you, along with the infamous Elise Rainier played brilliantly by horror fan fave Lin Shaye!
Eat your heart out horror fans, but remember, they want what you have... life.
We stand with the writers and actors. #WGA and #SAGAFTRA strike.

BARBENHEIMER Showdown : Barbie vs Oppenheimer
01:49:57
The cultural movie-going phenomenon, Barbenheimer! What is it, and why?! Listen and find out why everyone is in pink and donning fedoras and porkpies! Spoiler free reviews and deep dives into 'Barbie' and 'Oppenheimer', and we keep score! Listen as the infamous Barbie movie dukes it out again Christopher Nolan's biopic epic, Oppenheimer, in a winner takes all Barbenheimer showdown!
To introduce our fighters in the Barbenheimer cultural phenomenon, a weekend that has been etched into the modern movie theater zeitgeist, first we have Greta Gerwig's Barbie! Starring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae, and an ensemble of gorgeous set pieces and old-school Hollywood filming techniques!
Our next fighter standing 5'7 and weighting probably 120 pounds is Openheimer! Robert Oppenheimer was actually 6 feet tall, but Cillian Murphy is 5'7 BUT NOW IN THIS FILM- he may as well be a giant. Christopher Nolan's Magnum Opus biopic epic 'Oppenheimer' has one of the most star-studded casts of recent date, and each give a breath-taking performance. Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Alden 'Solo' Ehrenreich, Jason Clarke, Matt D., and so so so many more that I don't want to spoil!
Barbie takes on one of the most famous IPs of all time in a true existential and whimsical dollhouse of a movie that is tactile as it is beautiful, with incredible original music and knockout performances. Ryan Gosling as Ken is unforgettable, a true out-of-perfect-body experience!
In the other corner, J. Robert Oppenheimer, well his biopic 'Oppenheimer.' This film is a dissociative nightmare come true, and one that Cillian sells to you in an all-time performance. A frightening insight into potentially the beginning of the end of mankind. Classical physicists and their understanding vs the revolutionary quantum mechanics and everything the world thought they understood about the universe is turned on its head. Enter the complicated visionary physicist and the godfather of the atomic bomb, Oppenheimer. Christopher Nolan calls Oppenheimer the most important man to ever live, and we debate exactly why that is during this podcast. Whether you are listening to this or not, your life is absolutely impacted by Oppenheimer. As a matter of fact, all life is, and that is terrifying. Nolan takes us into the mind of one of the most divisive characters in human history, America's Prometheus, expanding the medium of the motion picture to limits we've never seen before.
This is the fight of the century, BAREBENHEIMER! Some spell it Barbenheimmer!
Please enjoy, and if you feel compelled, leave us a wonderful 5-star review letting us know the winner of this bout in your eyes! We love you all! VIVA LA CINEMA!

'Talk to Me' and 'They Cloned Tyrone' Movie Reviews and Hollywood Discussion
01:27:16
Talk to Me is THE horror movie of the summer, A24 and Danny and Michael Philippou (youtubers) bring their directorial debut in the form of this possession ghost-story party drug gone terribly, terribly wrong. 'Talk to Me' is, pardon the pun, the horror movie being talked about and out in theaters now- please give our spoiler-free review a listen and then get your patookus in a theater seat and prepare to be terrified! Does it live up to being called the scariest movie in years!? Listen and find out!
Talk to Me is yet another horror movie that is taking the box office by storm, already tripling it's budget of 4million and solidifies the continuation of HORROR DOMINANCE! If you're a new filmmaker and want to make a positive ROI and gain the ability to make that second film, create horror!
They Cloned Tyrone! Do NOT let this movie come to Netflix and then be buried, this is your warning. The summer's funniest ensemble of Jamie Foxx, John Boyega, and Teyonah Parris will take you on a journey in Cabin in the Hood that you shan't soon forget! Juel Taylor directs the fire out of this film in his debut, taking inspiration from Blacksploitation films that came before, but he harnesses that power and gives his audience an absolute delightful and surprisingly wild story that plays out like a Twilight Zone episode. I can't believe this is his first movie, because it is shot beautifully, with a grainy tactile feel to it, and you can smell the fried chicken through the screen... but you may not want to eat it, allow Slick Charles to explain in a character / actor match made in Hollywood heaven! Jamie Foxx is electric, Boyega has range, and Teyonah Parris steals the show, don't miss it or our spoiler-free review of 'They Cloned Tyrone.' Oh, and David Alan Grier, come on! On Netflix now, go watch it!
As you all know, I run a movie theater and my cohost sells insurance (dabbles), so please indulge as in the 3rd act of this episode as we go over Hollywood as a whole, summer blockbusters, and what movies coming down the pipeline that we are stoked for! Think of it as a catch-up discussion of the movie industry and I look to the near and uncertain future of cinema! From Indiana Jones and The Flash, to James Gunn and Dune 2, to the state of movie releases and potentially being moved back- join us in this fun discord!
As always, we love you! Please consider sharing our podcast with those movie lovers around you, we would appreciate it more than you know! And, if you dig it, please consider dropping that 5-star review. We love it when we're judged!
VIVA LA HORROR AND CINEMA!

Summer Movie Showdown: Meg 2: The Trench, Jaws (1975), Underwater (2020)
01:59:50
Meg 2: The Trench spoiler-free review! Jason Statham is back fresh off of punching a MEGALADON in the face, can the sequel deliver the big fish on the big screen again!? Listen and find out!
THE summer blockbuster, Jaws! With two musical notes 57 million people were petrified in the US in 1975, and the ocean has been feared ever since. We take a deep dive, pun, into Steven Spielberg's accidental masterpiece as we explore the best summer movie of all time, 'Jaws.'
Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, and Richard Drefuss gave us an unforgettable crew out on the Atlantic as Amity Island is under attack from a beast from the deep. Simple enough logline, but an incredible picture. Rob and I explore why Jaws is still rememberd to this day, from the lore of the set, to the breaking down of the infamous shark Bruce, and to the drunken monologues of Robert Shaw (rip). We cover the ins and outs of this cinematic masterpiece and journey to just why this movie is so effective and how it changed the course of cinema forever!
Last but certainly not least, a hidden gem from January of all months, 2020, right before the world shut down.. Underwater (2020)! Directed by William Eubank and starring the fantastic Kristen Stewart, Vincent Cassel, Mamoudou Athie, we following a crew of oceanic researchers working at a deep sea drilling company over 7 miles deep at the center of the Mariana Trench as an earthquake devastates their facilities and they are in a race for their lives as they have to travel deeper and deeper looking for working escape pods. As if being in a race against their own fate isn't enough, there is something far more sinister than the earthquake to contend with.. and older. Ancient, even.
DO NOT MISS UNDERWATER! It was dropped into January before the pandemic never to be seen again, but don't make that mistake! Watch Underwater now and listen to us deep dive, pun again, into this terrifying ocean surface sea-creature thriller the likes you have NEVER seen before, trust me! The last 5 minutes of this movie is my favorite in recent cinema history!! It's that insane, go watch it now- you won't regret it!
And please consider leaving us a 5-star review and sharing us with your friends and family, we'd truly appreciate it! You guys are rockstars, thanks so much for coming along for the ride as we explore the greatest artform in history- movies!

Get Ready for Spooky Season: 'The Last Voyage of the Demeter' and 'Cobweb' Movie Reviews and Discussion
01:48:09
We review and deep dive into The Last Voyage of the Demeter, aka the Captain's Log chapter from Bram Stoker's Dracula novel, and then we find ourselves on Halloween night stumbling into Cobweb, a brand new horror flick that crawled into theaters during the Barbenheimer mania and then slithered away to VOD as quickly as it arrived- don't miss it horror fans!
The Last Voyage of the Demeter is in theaters now, and we start off with a spoiler-free movie review and then we announce when we embark into our spoiler-filled deep dive! Directed by Trollhunter and the Autopsy of Jane Doe's Andre Ovredal (André Øvredal) and starring Corey Hawkins, Aisling Franciosi, Liam Cunningham, Woody Norman and co, The Last Voyage of the Demeter gives us a Dracula the likes we haven't seen since Nosferatu, a truly terrifying beast with a captive crew on the high seas sailing for London with mysterious cargo and a lot of hiding places. This is a brutal horror period piece that borrows one of the most legendary IPs in literature and gives a unique, haunting beautiful spin on the old tale. This is a snapshot in the life of Dracula, one that hardly spares a single soul, but it is truly a beautiful moon and lantern lit slight and one you need to catch on the big screen- or do you?! Listen and find out! This is a beast that masquerades as a man, and this film is all creature feature baby!
Cobweb! From the Blacklist and Bloodlist- we review this victim of Barebenheimer because we don't want original horror to just disappear without being watched! Cobweb came to some movie theaters July 21st, coinciding with the biggest zeitgeist event in recent cinema memory, thus it left theaters shortly after and is already available on VOD for rent and to own. Cobweb is directed by Samuel Bodin and stars, the kid in both films of our double feature, Woody Norman, the amazing Lizzy Caplan, Homelander, I mean Antony Starr, and Cleopatra Coleman, and is set right around HALLOWEEN and the perfect cozy nightmare fairly tale watch to get you ready for spooky season! As IMDB puts it, 'Horror strikes when an eight-year-old boy named Peter tries to investigate the mysterious knocking noises that are coming from inside the walls of his house and a dark secret that his sinister parents kept hidden from him,' but that is only the first 66% of this film. In a very Hitchcockian way you really have two movies here, some of the most unique imagery and shadow play seen in a very long time, and a haunting story that lives in the moody autumn that is to come. Listen to Bobby and I battle it out over this film, and please leave a 5-star hitter review and your thoughts on Cobweb! And Dracula on a boat for that matter!
Cobweb is a one-of & no rules Halloween tale! Barbarian, Coraline, and Trick 'r Treat's stepchild, on VOD now!
As always, we truly hope you guys enjoy the film reviews and discussions, and go out and see this fantastic end of summer/ pre-spooky season horror double feature! Queue the red, auburn, and orange leaves dancing to the ground, the pumpkin in the coffees, and the horror movies on your screens! God bless, enjoy, and HURRY UP HALLOWEEN!
But wait, there's more! 'HALLOWEEN ENDS' (2022) rant towards the end of the episode, enjoy and let us know your thoughts!

Get ready to get lost in this episode as we navigate the tightly-woven visual tapestry of Anderson's 'Asteroid City', decoding the intricate relationships of its characters and the complexities of a play within a movie within life. Listen in as we engage in a hopefully thought-provoking debate on the auteur that is Wes Anderson, and marvel at the performances Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Steve Carell, Liev Schreiber, and so many more *cough, Barbie, cough.*
But our cinematic journey doesn't stop there. We venture into the emotional depths of Celine Song's 'Past Lives', as we examine its powerful portrayal of love, relationships, and the ordinary. Hear our analysis of the film's Korean cultural influences, its portrayal of a complex love triangle, and how it subtly avoids clichéd narratives. Join our discussion on the profound differences in loves, romantic and otherwise, and the amazing Korean concept In-Yun. Also, Teo Yoo gives one of the best performances from a leading man, maybe ever. Do not miss this film.
Life is a series of choices, but what about the life we don't choose - the 'ghost ship life'? We share our personal reflections on this concept and how it has influenced our own lives. We wrap up our conversation by expressing our admiration for the transformative power of movies and how they transport us to a different world. Don't miss this episode - it's a celebration of cinema and an exploration of life's intriguing possibilities- fate?
Your 'what ifs' build a life on their own, but you can only view it from the shore. And these two films explore both sides of that coin, please enjoy them and then listen to this episode- might be my favorite one yet. Remember, feel a movie before you attempt to understand it.

'Sinister': The Scariest Movie Ever Made?
01:51:35
Ever wondered what makes a film truly terrifying? Put your big boy pants on and join us as we journey into the nightmare that is the 2012 horror masterpiece, 'Sinister,' directed by Scott Derrickson and written by Robert Cargill, my favorite horror filmmaking duo! Discover why this chilling film left such an unforgettable imprint on a generation, and why we believe it marked a resurgence in the horror genre as we know it today.
The opening of Sinister is one you will NEVER forget, and although this film maims you with its brutality, it grounds itself with its humanity and heart. Ethan Hawke brings Ellison Oswalt alive in a way only he can, with a mesmerizing performance through the pursuit of his true crime white whale, and balancing being a present husband and father. But there is more to this film than ambition, even more than just fear itself- there is a true look in the mirror and you're faced with the thought- what if I don't matter anymore?
Sinister scared you from the jump, but the emotional beats never miss either with brilliant on-screen chemistry of husband and wife, but let's not forget the demon in the room.. Bughuul, the Eater of Children's Souls. The film's demonic entity, and its ancient pagan connections going all the way back to Babylonian times, is truly a face you'll never forget, a darkness you'll never truly escape. I don't want to give too much away in the description, I implore you to give this episode a listen and travel with us through a vacuum of darkness, where seemingly not a single light can be found. There are many threads to follow in this masterpiece of a horror movie, but with the amazing Scotty D behind the camera you will not only have no problems doing so, but you'll see some of the best lit shots in modern movies. Scott Derrickson is more than Dr. Strange, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and Blackphone (although those are all great), he and Cargill are creators of one of the scariest movies ever brought into existence- literally from a 'Ring' induced nightmare Robert had.
Sinister is a horror film that you don't get right up after watching, you'll need a minute. A reminder even, and a hopeful sigh of thankfulness that you were able to come back to our world- one without Bughuul and the innocence of children tainted. Or so you thought, wait until you see what makes him so special... and terrifying.
Scary movie season is here, although it is 365 in my house, so get ready for Halloween by scaring your pants off with this amazing movie. 'Sinister' is a force to be reckoned with, and I encourage you to watch it right away, prior to listening to this, and allow yourself to get scared again and reminded that fear wasn't left behind in childhood.
And please, if you enjoyed our deep dive into Sinister, I'd politely request a sharing of this episode with your friends, and maybe a 5-star review if you'd be so bold- I'd truly appreciate it!
LONG LIVE HORROR, LONG LIVE SINISTER! Sinister is on Amazon Prime now! Go start your spooky season!

The Nun II, A Haunting in Venice, No One Will Save You (Spoiler Free Movie Review)
00:37:53
The Nun 2 / II, A Haunting in Venice, and No One Will Save You spoiler-free and quick movie reviews for your listening pleasure! The Nun II and A Haunting in Venice are in theaters now, No One Will Save You just arrived on Hulu- GO WATCH IT NOW!
First up, The Nun 2, our next submission into the Conjuring universe and the third by director Michael Chavez. I think we have a horror icon on our hands, if even just in symbology, with the dark sister form of Valak played hauntingly by the great Bonnie Aarons. The demon nun returns in a bigger, grander movie that once again calls upon our final nun heroine, Sister Irene played brilliantly by Taissa Farmiga (sister of Lorraine Warren, what!? conspiracy theory fun!) - can she deliver the goods again? Listen and find out if the trip to post-war France is worth it.
Up next, the third entry into our favorite Agatha Christie inspired trilogy, A Haunting in Venice (2023)! Hercule Poirot is back and so is his glorious mustache in another murder mystery in an absolutely to-die-for setting, but does it have the goods? Inspired by Agatha Christie's Hallowe'en Party, we follow Orson's I MEAN Kenneth Branagh's direction and acting into a gorgeous, albeit haunted, palazzo in late 40s Venice, Italy. Another fun cast of characters bordering on caricatures, in the best of ways, the introduction of the amazing Michelle Yeoh and the miscast but talented Tina Fey, and the fun strand of reason versus the supernatural give way to a very fun, Halloween setting, murder mystery that could be the strongest of the three- listen and find out!
Last but CERTAINLY not least, Brian Duffield's No One Will Save You. Exclusively on Hulu, this alien home invasion horror sci-fi flick has taken the internet, and WORLD, by storm! Duffield has already given us the amazing Underwater (2020), can he deliver yet again?! Yes. A thousand times, yes. 'No One Will Save You' is a movie with only two lines of dialogue but an incredibly physical performance by Kaitlyn Dever that truly takes you on a journey you haven't been on before. An incredible script gives way to a haunting first act, stepchild of Signs, ET, and The Strangers, and then walks in Invasion of the Body Snatchers, then we get an emotional beat that is absolutely carried by the entirely too lovable Brynn, and then some of the most creative creature design I've ever seen in a movie take us from the second act into the third. Again, this is a SPOILER-FREE review of No One Will Save You, so I kept it brief, but just know this movie explores the boundaries of the genre film and uses the rules as a playground, diving into a little bit of every kind of horror movie you can think of- AND IT RULES BECAUSE OF IT! Go watch 'No One Will Save You' right no on Hulu!
Enjoy the spooky season people, Halloween is the greatest! And grab you a PSL, cuddle up, watch these horror movies, they hit different in autumn. The Nun II, A Haunting in Venice, and No One Will Save You compliment the halloween atmosphere perfectly, and you won't regret taking the time to watch any of them! To the contrary, these movies are truly fun with No One Will Save You being an absolute CANNOT MISS feature.
If you enjoyed, please share the episode around, we'd greatly appreciate it! And, as always, thank you so much for your time fellow movie and horror lovers, I hope you enjoyed your stay. And as you're falling asleep tonight, just let your mind be open to just maybe.... you are not alone.

Halloween: The Original Story of Michael Myers
01:40:23
Trick..or treat.. or DIE! Journey through Halloween '78, Halloween 2, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, and the 6th installment.. Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers as we take a deep dive into the original story of The Shape himself. We review every Halloween movie from the original timeline, plus we also briefly discuss the long lost tome- the Halloween novelization book by Curtis Richards, which fills in a ton of gaps in Michael's story in Halloween '78. Taking Shape: Developing Halloween From Script to Scream is also a huge recommend!
We begin with John Carpenter's 1978 accidental masterpiece ,'Halloween,' which took the world by storm, giving birth to the embodiment of evil, the Shape, the Boogeyman, Michael Myers himself. We discuss the entire original story of Michael Myers as told by Halloween '78, Halloween 2, 3, 4, 5, and the Revenge of Michael Myers! We take a deep dive into the Haddonfield slasher, the mythos surrounding Michael and how the Shape was born, and the Halloween films, plus a ton of behind the scenes trivia, what could have been, and a lot more fun facts! Find out how Michael Myers became a titan of the American horror zeitgeist!
To 1981 we go & we have Halloween II (2) , directed ALMOST by David Lynch but ends up in the hands of Rick Rosenthal, screenplay by John Carpenter and Debra Hill, and after the original cut was viewed by the master himself, 11 + minutes were reshot by Carpenter and that gave us the theatrical version of the film.
Halloween 3: Season of the Witch famously omits Myers in favor of the original anthology idea, but after bombing at the box office our babysitter stalker was back in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)! The Boogeyman awakes on Halloween Eve with vengeance on his mind after hearing he has lineage still alive, 7 year old Jamie! Michael returns to Haddonfield, following the true curve-ball of a story line from the 2nd installment of the Halloween franchise. Buckle your seatbelts, because it gets even weirder..
Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989). The Shape returns to Haddonfield once more in the craziest installment yet, w/director Dominique Othenin-Girard taking Michael Myers to territory off the beaten path and into the great unknown- druids, cults, and the Thorn! DOG also was brought on for Halloween Kills (2021) as the AD, which is just one of the cool facts and trivia we explore in the Halloween franchise on this episode!
The finale of the original story of the '78 Michael Myers and Halloween... 1995's Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. Directed by Joe Chappelle we have the most insane entry in the entirety of the 13 movie Halloween franchise! The Cult of Thorn, the man in black, 2 VERSIONS of this movie, and Paul Rudd's cinematic debut all play a part in this wild ending to the original Michael Myer's story- don't miss it!
We walk you through the entire original story of the boogeyman himself, Michael Myers, starting in 1978 and ending up in 1995, uncovering facts, behind the scenes antics, why and how each movie was made, and just what drives the infamous Babysitter Murderer! We also get into fun Halloween trivia, this is truly a deep dive into one of the most iconic franchises in American cinematic history- come along with us horror, Halloween, and spooky season fans! Impress your friend group with knowing EVERYTHING about the OG Michael Myers! From the influence of Hitchcock on John Carpenter, to the behind-the-scenes disagreements on where the story should go, and even some extremely fun what-could-have-beens in directing and casting! But truthfully we navigate through the story of the scariest on-screen slasher of all time and get to the heart (or lack thereof) behind his story.
Michael Myers became an American horror fairy tale, journey with us to find out how.

Directed by Alaxander Payne and starring Paul Giamatti, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, and introduces us to Dominic Sessa, The Holdovers is the PERFECT Christmas and winter watch that will etch its way into so many Christmas film rotations. But this movie is so much more than that, it is a heartfelt coming together of such a loveable cast of characters, from the grumpy old school teacher that has reached a stasis in life, to the heartbroken cafeteria lady that is struggling to move on, all the way to the foolhardly high school kid that is the absolute antithesis to the professor. Todd Haynes is back with another polarizing melodrama, this time s tarring Natalie Portman, Charles Melton, and the always incredible Julianna Moore who gives potentially the performance of the year. This is a complicated story based on an actual tragedy, but leave our assumptions at the door because May December and it's incredible score and beautiful Tybee Island backdrop paint a picture for you that will leave you mesmerized, exasperated, and in dark contemplation. This movie is a summer dream, but given to us in December- do not miss it!

Late Night with the Devil is up next, directed by Cameron and Colin Cairnes and starring the lovable Mr. David Dastmalchian as a younger Johnny Carson on a Halloween night in 1977. This movie is is entirely a late night show from the 70s and we are dropped in on a host who's past is dripped in tragedy, his ratings are falling, and he needs one gigantic, unforgettable night to launch him back to stardom. The question is, would you trade your soul!? Seriously, give our review a listen and then go watch this film ASAP- you have never seen anything like it. HORROR IS THRIVING!
Last but CERTAINLY not least, Charles Laughton's only directorial attempt ever, The Night of the Hunter. Starring robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters, and the silent-film star Lillian Gish, you are dropped in on an incredibly charismatic self-proclaimed preacher and one of the most haunting stories you shall ever encounter. Unforgettable photography, too dark of a story for the era it released, and a heavily German Expressionism styled film that all are woven together to create a child's nightmare, but a cinematic masterpiece. Come with us as we journey through it and decide whether or not we believe this film to be worthy of the title of the greatest American movie of all time, and the tragedy that was the director never got his flowers this side of the grave.

The Simulation Theory in Cinema: 'World on a Wire' and 'The Matrix'
01:09:10
What if I told you that a movie came out in Germany in 1973 is still the greatest depiction of the Simulation Theory, and not only does it surpass The Matrix (1999), but gave birth to it? Let us introduce you to Rainer Werner Fassbinder's World on a Wire (Welt am Draht).
The Criterion Collection twitter / X handle recommended me 'World on a Wire' based on my love for Kubrick, and boy did they hit the nail on the head. World on a Wire stars the amazing Klaus Lowitsch, Barbara Valentine, Mascha Rabben, and was the only sci-fi entry for the amazing and tragic Fassbinder, who shot this film at 27 and unfortunately only lived 10 more years afterwards.
World on a Wire depicts the source material 'Simulacron-3' beautifully, with gorgeously antiquated and charming camera work (long shots and odd angles, making it difficult to even depict the subject of a given scene) that truly transports you into the future, which is given life on the set using beautiful brutalist architecture with a 2001: A Space Odyssey aesthetic coated over it, oh.. and a lot of mirrors. Fassbinder loved mirrors.
Couple the immensely gifted directing, cinematography, and unique distinctive style with the philosophical depth, the rediscovery and background to this film, and its outsized influence on science fiction in cinema, and you truly have a CAN NOT MISS motion picture. World on a Wire is 3 and a half hours of pure cinematic goodness and I cannot recommend it enough, thanks Criterion- I immediately purchased their edition! #physicalmedia
But one cannot discuss 'World on a Wire' without discussing the Wachowski's 1999 cult classic 'The Matrix.' Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Hugo Weaving breath life into this cybernetic masterpiece that truly defined a generation and is still going strong in cinematic discourse to this day, hence why it's on our pod!
The Matrix needs no introduction, but I encourage you to journey with us as we show you its daddy, World on a Wire, and also celebrate the beautiful juxtaposition of these two films and although they both play with the simulation theory, they have completely different outcomes and reads.
The Matrix is more than a visually stunning film, it is Plato's Allegory of the Cave come to life, the internet and all of the fear and angst as we barreled into the millennia come to the silver screen, and even large than that.... red pill or blue pill?
Peak behind the curtain of the Matrix and plug in and let's follow the white rabbit down the hole, you won't regret it. And please consider giving us a 5-star review if you enjoy our movie reviews, deep dives, and true exploration through this science fiction dystopian playing out real time as I type this films. These are simulation theory juggernauts, but there is so, so much more than meets the eye.
Movie lovers, let's ride! Or.... are you going to stay in wonderland?

A Quiet Place: Day One, The Beast (2023), and Seconds (1966) Movie Review and Deep Dives
01:27:36
From John Krasinski's rockstar directorial debut, A Quiet Place (2018), we had a new kind of horror born- blind aliens with super(alien) human hearing- high level concept, baby! We then had a sequel, and now we are given A Quiet Place: Day One by Michael Sarnoski (The Pig) and starring the always amazing Lupita Nyong'o, Stranger Thing's Joseph Quinn, and an amazing cat named Frodo! We talk through a quick and spoiler-free movie review that we hope you enjoy!
What if David Lynch wrote and directed an adaptation of Bill Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet? We may never have that answer, but we have an entry here that is just as powerful and out-there as that would be- Bertrand Bonello's The Beast. La bête in French, the film's native tongue. Starring potentially the greatest actress of all time, the haunting and wonderful Lea Seydoux, along side a tense and nearly magical performance turned in by George MacKay. 'The Beast' debuted in festivals in 2023, but truly got theatrical release and distribution in 2024, and you absolutely CANNOT miss this incredible film. Come along as we dive deep down into the wonderland of ghosts, fate, and time-travel in an absolutely unforgettable and suffocatingly unique movie.. The Beast aka La bête. Again, Léa Seydoux, you're sold?
We finish the episode with a stone-cold classic you've probably never even heard of, the absolutely terrifying Seconds which came out in 1966 directed by John Frankenheimer and starring Frank Campanella, the always fantastic John Randolph.. and oh ya, ROCK HUDSON!! Horror fans, kino fans, old Hollywood fans, cinema lovers, do NOT let your life go by without watching and traveling to the black and white nightmare that is 'Seconds.' A little bit Twilight Zone, a bit of a cerebral dive into the American dream, but entirely human and soul-wrenching. Please listen join us as we adventure into the beautifully demented mind of Frankenheimer, the out-of-body performance by one of the greatest actors to ever grace Hollywood, Rock Hudson, and allow yourself introspection as you witness one of the most horrifying questions ever be asked and played out on your screen- What if it's all not enough? Seconds evocates an all too human feeling that we hide deeply buried in our souls, experience this film for yourself- we guarantee you won't leave it the same as you went into it. Seconds (1966) is what movies are all about, discover this gem. And for the real, real cinema & kino nerds, this is Frankenheimer's conclusion to his paranoia trilogy, and by far his most weird and amazing!
Also, huge shout out to the Criterion Channel for the recommendation for Seconds!
And, as always, we watch WAY more movies than you! See you people! If you love us like we love you, please consider sharing us with your amazing mothers and dropping a 5-star review! THANKS!

Deadpool & Wolverine Review + Deadpool Rankings and LONGLEGS Deep Dive
01:25:29
Deadpool and Wolverine review and Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Deadpool 3 aka Deadpool & Wolverine RANKINGS with Ryan Reynolds (lol jk, maybe)! We battle it out over the solo MCU film of 2024, our beloved rated R superhero teams up with his real life friend in 4th wall breaking, non 4 quadrant, no stakes mashup of Reddit jokes and 2000s Marvel movie characters! OR, as my cohost argues, one of the most important super hero movies ever and a potential reset to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we debate if Galactus looms all the closer!
Love letter or goodbye letter to our Fox superheros!? Let us know your thoughts in a 5-star ranking comment please! Plus, a little Fantastic Four and Doomsday discussion with a little sprinkle of James Gunn's Superman!
Look, Bobby gets SUPER NERDY and goes deep into the character of Deadpool from the comics all the way to the once silver screen, and I have a blast listening- I think you will too! Come learn some Deadpool in a very deep dive.
Also, Hugh Jackman is eternal.
Up next, Oz Perkins and Nicholas Cage! Have your attention? Let's also add the incredibly talented and next woman up, Maika Monroe, with the always amazing and underused Blair Underwood. Longlegs is the horror movie of the year, maybe the last five if you take into account the chokehold this horror flick has had on the internet and twitter / X the last few months. BUT... does 'Longlegs' live up to the immense hype?!
We have a heated debating over Longlegs, with me coming to the defense of this potentially mis-marketed procedural of DREAD! Is it Seven and Silence of the Lamb's step-son? Or a swing and a miss? Come with us and let's take a journey to the man under the stairs and find out for ourselves. We spoil the movies in this episode. But we do so with a purpose! Because we dive DEEP into Longlegs and bring up some super cool things you may have missed, there is so much awesomeness going on in this film!
Also, Osgood Perkins is the infamous son of Psycho star Anthony Perkins, but there is a lot more than meets the eye in his upbringing. We discuss how much of that made its way into this film, and we beg the question... how far would you go to protect your kid?
Please consider leaving a 5-star review and comment because WE LOVE YOU! AND MOVIES! And we truly appreciate you and your time, and can't wait to watch more movies than you and with you! See ya people.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Oddity, and MEGALOPOLIS - Movie Review and Discussion
01:13:48
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the HAUNTING indie horror film you CANNOT miss, ODDITY, and the incredible divisive film from American cinema godfather Francis Ford Coppola- Megalopolis! We journey through and discuss these three movies in depth and detail, and then battle it out in the court of public opinion on Megalopolis! And I mean battle, so come join us cinephiles and find out how awesome (or not) these three movies are, and listen in on the cinephile battle of the century- is 'Megalopolis' FFC's Mangum Opus, or a convoluted mess?! Come find out.
Let's start of this spooky season with the return of Tim Burton and our favorite demon in 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice!' Michael Keaton, Catherine O'Hara, Monica Bellucci, and Winona Ryder passing the horror girl deviant outsider baton to Jenna Ortega all come together in this legacy sequel to the infamous Beetlejuice of 1988! Does it work to recapture the amazing charm of the Hollywood outsider that is Tim Burton, or does the charm fall short and one too many stories are attempted to be woven to revitalize our favorite demon in hopes to offer him to the next generation?
Horror fans!! This one is for you. Damian Mc Carthy's Oddity! Let me start by saying, go to Shudder right now (can find it on Amazon Prime subsection) and watch 'Oddity' and then come back and join in on our incredible journey through one of the highest caliber horror films of the past DECADE! Ya, I said it! Oddity oozes Irish folktale horror goodness, showing once again they have drinking and storytelling down to a science! Carolyn Bracken, Johnny French, and Steve Wall + the isolated Irish mansion all help to bring this dreadful story of a wooden man, a witch, a shop of haunted mysteries, and deception to live in a truly masterful genre film, an absolute stone cold horror classic in the making that we will have on rotation every Halloween from this point out! Come listen as to what makes this film so special!
Last but certainly not least, American cinematic royalty Francis Ford Coppola just brought the world his passion project over 40 years in the making in the illustrious 'Megalopolis.' Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne and so, so many more stars come together to make this modern Roman epic a truly unforgettable piece of art- or do they!? My cohost and I literally BATTLE it out on our discussion of Megalopolis, from my defense of the performances as being Shakespearean operatic beats that his simple mind just refuses to grasp, to his overture that I am giving Coppola's self-financed last musings of a decaying genius, a madman at the end of his time way more credit that it deserves.
Come listen to our dissents, a true battling it out of film bros on the titan's potential last hoorah of a passion project. Megalopolis is a lot of things, and one of those things is it occupies a place in film history that demands your viewing. Please do so and join us in our heated discussion of this play of caricatures in leu of characters, the bizarre in leu of reality, and try to find the crazy register that I believe Coppola intended- ride the ride that is MEGALOPOLIS and please leave us a 5-star review letting us know YOUR thoughts on this cinematic giant!
MOVIES ARE BACK! But we argue they've never gone anywhere. If you feel the same way we do about CINEMA, please like and subscribe and come on this crazy journey through film with us! Plus, it's spooky season.. HORROR INCOMING!
And remember, we watch way more movies than you. See you at the movies!

Terrifier 3, Salem's Lot (2024), It's What's Inside - Movie Review and Deep Dive
00:40:46
Terrifier 3, the Salem's Lot remake on HBO Max, and It's What's Inside (2024) on Netflix now after creating a ton of excitement at SXSW!
Art the Clown is back in his Christmas installment! Directed by Damien Leone, whom of which I follow on twitter, starring the absolutely amazing Lauren LaVera, the now icon David Howard Thornton, Antonella Rose, Elliott Fullam returning and many more! We spoiler-free review Terrifer 3, and then we take a very deep dive into this latest installment of horror gorefiend's side of film twitter and we discuss a VERY important question- is Art the Clown etching his way so much into the horror zeitgeist that he now sits among Michael Myers, Freddy Kreuger, Jason Vorhees, and Ghostface!? Please slam us down a 5-star review and let us know in a comment your thoughts on this!
Up next is a Stephen King tale, these are always our favorites- the remake of Salem's Lot which is now streaming on HBO Max and in theaters across the pond. Directed and written by Gary Dauberman, and the king himself of course, starring Bill Pullman's son Lewis!! And Makenzie Leigh, Jordan Preston Carter and co! Salem's Lot discussion begins with a spoiler-free review, some awesome Stephen King talk, and then we put it to the test of fighting the original and also dive into what this iteration has going for it, and what it doesn't- come join us!
Last but certainly not least, It's What's Inside (2024)! 'It's What's Inside' debuted at SXSW and immediately took the crowd by storm, garnering a lot of attention and even more money and distribution. Greg Jardin directing and writing, and a cast of absolute bombshell up-and-comers, I'll name a few: Brittany O'Grady, James Morosini, Gavin Leatherwood, Reina Hardesty, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Nina Bloomgarden, and so many more! It is quite the ensemble of people that all movie lovers will become quite aquatinted with, and some of you already have in Fear the Walking Dead, White Lotus etc.
It's What's Inside is a trippy take on the body swap film! We don't have enough of those either, and we absolutely adore where Greg Jardin took this one! Streaming on Netflix now, let us tempt you by the spoiler-free review portion of our discussion, go watch it, and then come back as we journey through this truly novel and fun thrill ride and try to piece together a wild story worthy of discussion!
Happy Halloween horror and film lovers, God bless you all, and we hope you enjoy pulling up a chair and discussing these fantastic (and okay) films with us! Please leave a 5-star review, subscribe, and share us with your thick mothers. And remember, HALLOWEEN EPISODE NEXT!! Spooky season forever!

Our 2025 Oscar Best Picture Movies Discussion and Predictions for the 97th Academy Awards
00:58:19
We talk through all of the 2025 Oscars Best Picture nominees so you can be equipped this Oscar season! Award season for movies is in full swing, with the Golden Globes just wrapping and the 2025 EE BAFTA Film Awards up next and you're seeing the 97th Oscars nominations roll in- and let's be honest, it is all about that beautiful golden statue of that tiny man. We are talking about the OSCARS of course, the 97th Academy Awards that takes place March of this year! Plus, we honor the great David Lynch at the beginning of the episode.
Bobby and I discuss the slate of movies that we believe will compete in the 2025 Oscar race for best picture, best director, and animated film category. We also discuss movies we believe are being overlooked this award season, The Beast (La bête) anyone!? We also discuss horror's place in the Oscars and if Coralie Fargeat's The Substance can make waves- if not in best picture, does Demi Moore have a shot at best actress at the 97th Oscars?
From Sean Baker's 'Anora,' to 'The Brutalist,' from a couple of pictures on Netflix, 'Conclave' and 'Emilia Pérez' (over-performing or worth the hype?), the wrongly forgotten thus far this award season 'Dune 2: Part Two,' 'A Real Pain,' 'A Complete Unknown,' 'Wicked,' and many more- we talk through them all so if you're wanting to catch up this award season and be ready for all of the Oscar conversations, this is the episode for you!
We also discuss the main main headlines heading into this year's Oscars and also talk through some potential dark horse films that could surprise at the 2025 Oscars aka the 97th Academy Awards.
We don't spoil any of the films, so feel free to enjoy without concern! And I encourage you to pop in a David Lynch film this evening, or whenever you may be listening to this. We lost one of the greatest artists and filmmakers to ever walk this planet this past week, a man that created cinema for the weirdo and created a home for so many of us in Twin Peaks and the surreal. Lynch viewed the layers beneath every day life, showing that the juxtaposition to post-war Americana is as haunting as the war itself, and things simply aren't what they seem. Lynch was unflinchingly himself and his art thrived for it, a true one of one.
Please consider leaving a 5-star review as we fight back against the algorithm after a long hiatus- but I promise you this, WE ARE BACK, BABY!
If this is a dream, who's the dreamer?

The American Pipe Dream: The Brutalist, Memoir of a Snail, Eraserhead
01:07:30
Brady Corbet's 'The Brutalist' is up first as we explore the connective tissue throughout these three films, what if the American dream is rotten? Starring Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, and the always amazing Guy Pearce, we dive deep into a movie that is sure to create Oscar buzz as it competes for the 2025 Oscar's Best Picture! Do NOT miss this coming to America mini-epic (thanks Sean Fennessey from The Big Picture) that is in theaters, including IMAX, and available VOD now!
The Brutalist (2024) is a film to be contended with for years to come, please give it a watch and us a listen and let's take a journey from war-torn Hungary, as the Third Reich marches and destroys, all the way to America as we examine what it means to come here to be free and if that promise is there for all.
Up next, from the director of Mary and Max, we have Adam Elliot's 'Memoir of a Snail.' Another 97th Academy Award nominee, Best Animation, we have the latest installment in the moody stop-motion Claymation genre- and we are here for it! Memoir of a Snail will take you on a journey through a range of emotions ,tears of sadness, joy, the macabre, and the hopeful. Watch this picture, listen to us discuss, and please let us know in a hopeful 5-star review your thoughts on this artistic, dare we say.. masterpiece?
Last but certainly not least, let's show more love and remembrance to the great auteur and artist, David Lynch! We dive deep into the nightmare of the surrealist madman himself in David Lynch's first feature length movie, 'Eraserhead' (1977)! Twin Peak's Jack Nance is our vehicle through the nightmarish anti-reality of this cold and disturbing world as we experience Lynch's most spiritual film ever, Eraserhead. We journey through this hellscape and try to decipher what this moving painting David Lynch felt compelled to share means to us. From the almost alien creature of a newborn, capturing the angst of new parenthood in such a beautiful and horrifying way, to the almost caricature and archetypal ladies that inhabit this hellish plane of (non)existence, we are given a truly dark and fantastically macabre fairy tale ripe for interpretation and amazement. Watch Eraserhead and listen to us discuss and even make some wild connections to Lynch's other work... the black lodge anyone?!
We had a blast discussing these incredible and unique films, and hope you enjoy the conversation as much as we did! Let's get weird! Please consider the amazing help of leaving a 5-star review and sharing our podcast with friends and thick mothers- we appreciate you more than you'll ever know!
See you at the movies, freaks!
