04 Oct 2022169 - We Need to Talk About Kevin02:19:45

Once upon a time, Marvel and the MCU created characters (both good and bad) who were all pretty much, under the surface, redeemable figures. They said "Bad guys are just misunderstood good guys and if we can't make you love a character we can at least make you sympathize with them by showing you how they were tormented by the evil Nazi regime that's at the heart of all the bad stuff in this universe." And we were like, "Yeah, fine. Cool. I'm on board." And then somewhere along the line, the PTB decided that the message they really wanted to put across was that everything bad that happens to you is your fault and your trauma is something that you need to apologize for. And V and Emily were like, "Huh-uh. Not on our watch." Basically, we're not super stoked about Thunderbolts, alright?

Brittany returns to the halls of Shipper City to discuss everyone's beloved 90's icon, vampire slayer, Buffy Summers. Among the nostalgia is the realization that some of the things we once considered peak romance are, in fact, horribly predatory and very gross in hindsight (lookin' at you, Angel), as well as a nice little deep dive into what it means in Sunnydale to "Experience a Moment of Perfect Happiness."

19 Sep 201813 - Cringe Binge, Vol. II00:29:02

You know how everything last week was sunshine and roses and excitement over broadening horizons? This week is more like digging around an actual dumpster trying to find your last contact lens so you can focus on the finer details of the garbage around you. Em went searching for some cringey fics this week, only to be disappointed (and vocal!) about some parts of fanfic that just don't need to happen anymore. No links this time, ships. 30 Apr 201941 - Lightning Thievery01:20:17

There is just so much to love about Percy Jackson. First, listen as Em is joined by a member of the cast of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical for a talk about what makes the show and the story so relateable. Then she's chatting with one of her besties about what Percy means to her and what fanfic's done for halfbloods and all manner of geeks in the universe.

No, listen, we're not talking about Endgame OR Game of Thrones this week. We're talking about time travel, how amazing it is, and how much Emily didn't want to love Lost. But she did. And by gum, by the end of this episode, she hopes you will too.

Joined by her first and bestest college friendship, Em digs into Ange's love of Hawkeye, Jeremy Renner, and the unexpected podcast sweetheart, Laura Barton. Pour yourself some canned wine, crack open a bag of animal crackers, and enjoy listening to this silly reunion as much as they enjoyed recording it.

Take a trip to the end times as Emily recounts a story she's loved since she first borrowed the book (stole it?) from a friend and never returned it. It's a nice little ride in the Bentley with Crowley, Aziraphale, and the Antichrist, rocking on through to the end of the world.

25 Jun 201949 - We Have Always Lived in the Tower00:49:40

Everyone saw Avengers Assemble in 2012. Everyone then immediately went home, took to the internet, and we reached a peace agreement for the first time since strangers found out they could argue online. We all moved our favorite superheroes into Avengers Tower in NYC. We all agreed there would be familiy dinners and movie nights and Clint would hang out in the vents and Tony would never sleep and Steve would never EVER have game as long as he lived. And we looked upon this world we had created and we declared that it was good.

13 Aug 201956 - Burn, Baby, Burn00:39:20

God what is better than knowing two characters are going to get together and having to wait 30+ chapters or 7+ years of television to watch it happen. Through classic miscommunications, secret longing for one another, inappropriately and deliciously filthy dreams and those oh-so tasty accidental hand brushes--you know we're talking about slow burns. Soak in the tension, shippers. Simmer with us in utter agony about whether or not our faves are EVER. GOING. TO. GET. TOGETHER. (Hint: yes, of course they will. What is this? Canon? Please.) -

Freshly unpacked and set up in the brand new Citadel of Smut, Em reminds everyone that once upon a time, a little sci-fi show called Fringe existed. And it was GREAT. Found family tropes, Frankensteiny shit, candy, sensible shoes. So much to love! So where did the fandom that saved the show from early cancellation go? Not to AO3, apparently.

03 Sep 201959 - All Batlings Welcome Here00:58:29

If you're hoping for an exceptionally well-researched deep dive into the nittiest and grittiest details of the Batman Universe and all things Gotham, you're probably going to have a bad time. If you have no frame of reference for anything Batman and just want to hear someone talk about how much she loves one, specific piece of a very large, Bat-shaped cake? Then you're in the right place. If you're going to tell us that Emily isn't a real Batman fan because she only loves the Nolan films, well, you can leave the way you came. No gatekeepers in Shipper City, but all others are welcome to listen as we talk about Bruce Wayne, Selina Kyle, the Joker and Bane, and all the baby batlings in the Batfamily.
