The first thing to do is to ensure that you have reliable data on the performance of each person, in order to go beyond the mere feelings of the managers.” How can leaders and HR departments best analyze and differentiate high performers/high potentials from those that are not adding to the bottom line?
  • Cegid recently released its HR Trends For 2022 report, In it, it says “While we can’t simply ‘go back’ to a time before the pandemic, it’s time to look back to move forward. 03 Mar 2022Candidates and Culture Fit with Dan Hunter, Workzinga00:31:18

The pandemic gave employees the time to reflect on their relationship with work and frankly, many weren't happy with what they uncovered. This has led to record numbers of resignations in 2021 and 2022 is set to be more of the same.

The Great Resignation has ushered in a massive shift in what people value and what they are willing to tolerate in their work lives.

The key reasons driving the great resignation include a reduction in benefits, a worsening work-life balance, a desire to do more fulfilling work, or a toxic workplace culture.

Our guest today says that the days of matching web keyword searches with resumes and job descriptions are over! Instead, it's all about culture fit. Dan Hunter is founder of Workzinga, a job search and hiring platform emphasizing company culture fit.

Questions For Dan Include:

  • Tell us about the mission of Navorion LLC’s first venture, Workzinga.
  • What advice would you offer to employers who want to future-proof their organizations?
  • What is your greatest source of optimism about the future of work?
  • It seems like there’s a new headline every day. ‘The Great Resignation’.  ‘TheGreat Reconfiguration’.  And now the ‘Great Reevaluation’.  What are the most important messages leaders need to hear from these headlines?  How do the cultures of companies need to evolve?
  • Workzinga commissioned insights agency Opinium to conduct a survey of 2,501 full-time employed and unemployed US adults aged 20-64 years old. What did the findings suggest about the importance of culture fit?
  • You published an article on LinkedIn in early February 2022 called ‘What Does it Take For a Job Seeker to Get Noticed?’ Can you share some of your tips in the article that can help job seekers st

04 Mar 2022Building A Stronger Employer Brand with Terry Baker, Pandologic00:23:54

It has never been harder to find and engage candidates. So how can your employer brand stand out while keeping your budget in check? When it comes to your recruitment sourcing strategy and finding the right candidate, there are several factors to consider.

Helping Bill Banham to get to the heart of how to mix AI with other approaches to candidate sourcing is Terry Baker, CEO & President at Pandologic, an AI-enabled recruiting platform.

Questions For Terry Include:

  • The Great Resignation is projected to be with us for a long time. What have employers learned from this experience so far that's helping them prepare for what’s next?
  • How do you see technology fitting into this narrative? What’s the role AI will play in continuing to help drive outcomes?
  • What are the risks with fully automated/AI-driven processes? Can great candidates be missed in a process where humans are removed from the early-stage screening process? Can checks be put in place?
  • One of the biggest challenges facing recruiters today is the sheer number of online job boards that exist. Can you share some stats around job boards (#s of boards, collective reach, engagement rates, etc).
  • Before one can even get to the candidate sourcing stage of the recruitment process, it's vital to tackle an important task: perfecting the job listing and requirements listed. What tips can you share?
  • Specificity is good for candidate sourcing, but sometimes an overly specific list of requirements can be just as dissuading to a candidate as a job listing stuffed with vague terms. What's the correct middle ground approach?
  • Knowing the value data provides, how can we measure success going forward?

More About Terry

Terry brings 20+ years of managing high-growth companies to his role at PandoLogic. Prior to joining PandoLogic, Terry was the founder and CEO of Amped Market Place Inc. a strategic partner to online media companies by providing services to amplify traffic, audience, and revenue. 07 Mar 2022Supporting Ukrainian Employees in Crisis with Vladimir Gendelman, Company Folders00:23:04

What we're witnessing in Eastern Europe at the moment is terrifying and painful. As of today, huge swathes of land in the south, north and east of Ukraine have been invaded. Many predict it's only a matter of days before Putin's troops attempt to occupy the Ukrainian capital of Kiev.

Our guest today reached out to our editorial team a few days ago and we felt it was imperative to get him on the podcast to share his story with you as soon as possible.

Vladimir Gendelman is founder and CEO of Company Folders and an immigrant to the US from Kharkiv, Ukraine.

He employs a team of seven software programmers, graphic designers, and quality assurance engineers in Ukraine. Last week three of them were trapped in Kharkiv, where they were sheltering in windowless rooms in buildings that are shaking from barrages of shelling. Fortunately, they were able to escape. Millions more have not been as lucky.

Vladimir's team was previously based in Donetsk, the epicenter of the uprising in 2014, so, unfortunately, this is not the first time they've dealt with destabilization caused by foreign aggression.

Listen to this discussion Bill Banham had with Vladimir to hear his experiences of leading and supporting a team literally under siege. Hear too, his heartfelt plea to the West to do more to help.

05 May 2022Hiring Tech Talent with Lauren Waters, Xero00:29:23

During the Great Resignation, many recruiters are looking for refreshing ways to find new talent. In technology, a field that requires candidates of such particular and refined expertise, the challenge is even more nuanced.

Our guest today is Lauren Waters, Talent Experience Manager, Americas at  Xero, accounting software that provides tools for small businesses, accountants, and bookkeepers.

Lauren understands the process of trying to land a job in the tech industry and has first-hand experience of what sticks and what doesn’t.

Questions For Lauren Include:

  • How has the growth of the Gig Economy and more need for accounting software for start-ups over the past couple of years impacted Xero?
  • What are some of the unique challenges TA pros when attempting to hire folks into tech companies and when trying to fill tech roles?
  • Why is it vital for a candidate to be truthful during the hiring process? What can happen if the candidate misleads a hiring manager/TA pro?
  • Why do you believe it's so vital that candidates demonstrate they care about culture fit and the DEI efforts of a potential employer's brand? What does that say about their motivations and likeness to stay with an org for the longer term?
  • Mastering the art of phone impressions - Your team stresses the importance of bringing on your energy and enthusiasm when interviewing or networking over the phone. As the interviewer is not able to see a candidate's body language over the phone, it is vital to approach the call with vigor – within reason. It’s also important to balance between being excited and not seeming too desperate. Tell me more.
  • Debunk the “fake it til’ you make it” mantra – most of the time people think they need to have an answer to every question thrown at them. Why is it okay to say “I do not know”!

10 May 2022Candidate Assessments and Pre-Hire Tech with Josh Millet, Criteria00:25:40

There were 11.3 million job openings in the US at the end of January 2022 – a number that has been surging as an unprecedented proportion of employees leave their companies. The Great Resignation is being driven by a range of factors – from greater labor mobility to rapidly shifting employee demands.

This means companies have to be capable of hiring the right employees quickly and at scale through broadening their talent pools, cutting time-to-hire, and onboarding employees who will improve the company’s culture, increase diversity, and drive productivity.

In an era of high turnover and constantly shifting talent pools, can assessment technologies help to predict long-term talent outcomes or is it a resource only designed for the hiring and onboarding stages?

That's a key question today's guest tries to answer. Listen too, as we consider the challenges faced by larger organizations when competing to attract talent faster is a post-pandemic world of work.

Bill is joined by Josh Millet, Founder and CEO of Criteria, a talent decisions platform on a mission to help companies make objective, evidence-based talent decisions that both reduce bias and drive outcomes.

Josh founded Criteria in 2006 with a vision to create a SaaS-based pre-employment testing service that would make the highest quality employee assessment tools accessible to companies of all sizes.

Criteria helps organizations make objective, evidence-based talent decisions that both reduce bias and drive better outcomes for their teams.

Questions Include:

  • Much of the help you offer is top-of-funnel - can you talk about the assessments and pre-hire tools you offer?
  • You also help with talent mobility. What do you do to help with internal movement?
  • How can assessments cut down on the number of interview stages and speed up time-to-hire?
  • Criteria has a broad range of assessment and related tools. That includes purchases of an EQ assessment company out of Australia and, recently, a video recruitment platform. EQ - assessment - how reliable? Video recruiting - what more can be gained for virtual face-to-face screening?
  • Later this year you'll be administering 1 million assessments in a single month and you project 10 million assessments will be conducted by Criteria software in 2022! What kind of data does that offer?
  • In a time when it's hard to find t

19 May 2022Psychological Safety in the Workplace with Dionn Schaffner, Aurea00:25:18

DEI is front and center in the corporate world, and for good reason. Highly inclusive companies innovate faster, attract top talent, and, according to Forbes, are more likely to hit their financial targets by up to 120%. Unfortunately, however, too often we see diversity initiatives like hiring diverse applicants turn DEI into performative quotas.

Today's guest says that, by combining remote work with new technologies, companies can turn the tides of their company’s DEI programs to focus more on building inclusive work environments to help all employees feel valued and safe.

Bill Banham is joined by Dionn Schaffner, Chief Diversity Officer of enterprise software company Aurea. Listen as Dionn shares ways she is incorporating DEI into the tech Aurea and its clients use in order to make teams feel more included within their company’s virtual culture. Be it including pronoun distinction in their video conferencing tools or prioritizing accessibility design elements in virtual workplace environments, technology has the ability to foster inclusion and connection.

Questions include:

  • Why is psychological safety so important in work settings?
  • What are ways leaders can build psychological safety in their workplace?
  • Is it always the leadership's responsibility to set the tone for this? Are there things an average employee can do to help their peers feel psychologically safe?
  • In two mins or less, what results do we see when a workplace is psychologically safe? How does this fit into the broader DEI conversation?

24 May 2022Remaining Healthy as we Return to the Office with Joy Altimare, EHE Health00:27:49

Employees are returning to the office en masse. Having peace of mind for on-site returns is something that cannot be overlooked and is needed as we transition from pandemic to endemic.

In this HRchat episode, we consider what employees can do to remain healthy as they return to on-site work. We also consider the wellbeing responsibilities of employers.

Bill is joined by Joy Altimare, Forbes Communication Council Member and CRO at EHE Health, a 100-year-old preventive healthcare company still paving the way for worksite returns to result in a happy, healthy, and productive workforce through wellbeing measures.

Joy has helped lead strategic growth and brand innovation across a range of highly competitive, rapidly evolving marketplaces for more than 20 years. As Chief Revenue Officer at EHE, Joy is responsible for driving growth across EHE Health’s expanding product ecosystem; directing revenue generation as the company rapidly scales and breaks barriers in the employer health landscape.

Questions Include:

  • What are the challenges faced by HR teams and the C-suite when trying to ensure employees return to the office in happy and health-conscious ways?
  • How should HR pros and leaders handle objections from employees worried about physically returning to the office?
  • Given the omicron variant has swept through the US and elsewhere, 80 million+ Americans have been diagnosed with at least one variant, and two-thirds of Americans have been fully vaccinated, are corporate vaccine mandates still necessary to abate health worries from returning employees?
  • How has the pandemic impacted the importance and relevance of preventive health? How will this trend impact employers and what can they do to plan for the long term?
  • Amid the Great Resignation, has there been an increased demand for more preventive healthcare measures for new employees?
  • How does EHE differentiate its offerings from others in the marketplace? Why should companies consider adding these benefits for employ

  • What has to fundamentally change when it comes to reporting issues in the workplace?
  • What are the main stages when it comes to reporting workplace issues and harassment?
  • AllVoices recently released a report called HR and the Great Resignation: Who’s Leaving, Hiring Outlook, and Strategies for Retention. The report surveyed HR leaders to better understand who’s leaving their jobs and why, what their organizations are doing to increase engagement and retention, hiring outlooks and strategies, and how HR leaders themselves are shouldering this weight. Let's run through some of the findings:
    • Tell us about the data sample. What were the demographics of those surveyed?
    • 48% of HR leaders have seen over 30% of their staff quit in the past year and 28% of employees are leaving because they’ve found a better offer. Just how competitive is it at the moment? How difficult is it to keep one's employees?
    • $61,000 to $80,000 is how much the majority of HR leaders say it costs to replace an employee. Can you explain the business case for retaining existing talent v. hiring and onboarding new employees?
    • 53% of HR leaders are burned out and 48% of HR leaders are looking for a new job! Why is it such a stressful time for HR pros or are we seeing the result of two long years of

Candidates were nominated by a colleague, assessed by a selection committee of peers, and evaluated on their principles.

The award will be presented by the William G. McGowan Charitable Fund at the opening session of SHRM’s Annual Conference & Expo next month. The winner will be honored in front of the nation’s leading businesses in New Orleans and will receive a $25,000 cash prize to donate to a nonprofit of their choice.

In HRchat episode 441 Bill talks with McGowan Fund Executive Director Diana Spencer and Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., President and CEO of SHRM about the award. Listen too, as Johnny shares what to expect in New Orleans and what's coming up for SHRM members later this year.

Questions For Johnny Include:

  • What does it mean to you to be a value-driven leader?
  • Why did SHRM partner with the Ethical Leader of the Year Award?
  • After the nominations have been submitted, the final list of candidates will be determined by a committee of national leaders, including the following judges: Marna C. Whittington, Committee Co-Chair, Leo Denault, Chairman and CEO of Entergy Corporation, Dan Cardinali, President and CEO of Independent Sector, Caroline W. 02 Jun 2022Equitable HR Strategies with Amit Rappaport, CEO at Compete00:23:41

In this HRchat episode, we consider how the pandemic has affected tech companies and ways we can adjust hiring practices and HR strategies to help attract and retain talent in more equitable ways.

Bill's guest is Amit Rappaport, CEO and co-founder at Compete. Amit is passionate about closing the gender equity pay gap in the technology industry.  Amit and the team at Compete are on a mission to even the playing field for women in technology.

Questions Include:

  • Recently, Compete's data has shown spikes in unique benefits offered to employees outside of the standard salary/bonus structure empowering employees more than ever. Benefits such as mental health, hybrid work, and paternity/maternity are showing positive trends especially as employee motivations shift. We'll get into detail shortly but, at a high level, can you share some trends your team is seeing?
  • While women make up nearly half of the global workforce, they represent only 26% of I.T. employees. Even when companies can recruit women, they often struggle with retention. What are some of the changes you've seen in the tech industry over the past couple of years to try and counteract this?
  • Major tech giants in the U.S. are increasing their family leave time. Google just announced 24 weeks of paid leave. Similar companies will likely follow suit. What do you think this says for the tech industry in years to come?
  • As New York begins the mandatory salary transparency, this sector will be interesting to watch. To see how delivering the correct data might change and mold things better. Will data-driven decision-making change the face of HR? How can companies work towards a more equitable future?
  • HR departments are struggling to employ anyone at this time. The Covid 19 Pandemic led to a great resignation. Now we are seeing a 'return to work' yet clearly, employees' motivations have evolved from even just a few years ago, and many companies have yet to keep up. What would you say is important for HR to consider when looking to increase family paid leave, or introduce new benefits that fit along the same lines?
  • What are new hires in tech prepared to do and what pre-pandemic expectations are being rejected/negotiated? For example, are you seeing many new hires agreeing to work from the office but only part-time?
  • In your opinion, how important is it to have a core group of employees able t

In HRchat episode 451, we consider what organizations need to know to cultivate a workplace that not only retains women employees but empowers their success.

The pandemic now feels endemic and companies want employees back in the office. Today's guest says that, when it comes to a preference in returning to the office, opinions seem to be directly tied to age.

Caroline and her team recently conducted a Women in the Workplace study to better understand how companies can improve the retention of female employees, at a time when women are leaving their jobs at historic rates. The study overwhelmingly suggested that Gen Z professionals are seeking the in-person workplace for networking, mentorship, and learning opportunities. Alternatively, Boomers, Gen X, and Millennials seem to be thriving in a remote environment due to their level of experience and other commitments.

Questions Include:

  • What are the headlines you can share from the extensive Women in the Workplace study, Have Her Back conducted?

Alternatively, Boomers, Gen X, and Millennials seem to be thriving in a remote environment due to their level of experience and other commitments. What do the differences in generational preferences tell us about the new normal when it comes to in-person working?
  • But Gen Zers are digital natives so can't we replace in-person mentorship/learning/networking with online?
  • Were these findings surprising to you?
  • What do you think are the major things that employers need to keep in mind in this new "return to office" e

28 Jul 2022How Programmatic Job Ads Improve Quality of Applicants with Doug Shonrock, Joveo00:23:39

In this HRchat we focus on data-driven recruiting. Listen as we talk about programmatic job ads, how 'stack creep' is a product of HR analytics and process automation, and why many Talent Acquisition pros still struggle to establish a common data set and fluid data sharing.

Bill's guest today is Doug Shonrock, Business Unit Director at Joveo, a platform helping businesses to buy, manage, and track recruitment media to attract and hire the most relevant applicants on time, and within budget.

Doug has spent the better part of 4 decades in the recruitment marketing, talent acquisition, and employer branding arena. He has dedicated his entire career to understanding how companies recruit for talent, how talent searches for companies, and the reasons it can be so difficult.

For the last 20 years, Doug has focused on the technology side of the talent acquisition process. Working with, and listening, clients and the problems they experience, roaming the aisles of the HRTechnology Conference understanding the ever-growing number of HRIS solutions being offered, and watching how these problems and solutions have evolved – and become even more complex.

Get Doug's take on:

  • Which industries and markets have seen the maximum adoption for programmatic job ads?
  • How does Programmatic Job Advertising solve the problem of the quality of applicants?
  • Candidate sourcing costs: Many sectors have seen big increases in costs associated with attracting employees. e.g. restaurant workers, retail etc. Why is this?
  • What is the most dramatic way that data has changed the way recruitment happens?
  • Four things HR and TA pros should consider when thinking about their talent acquisition process
  • Tools and technology they use to get, and charge, the battery needed for a high-powered TA operation. Can you share those 4 tips?
  • What could a possible global recession mean for recruitment rates?  If a recession does hit, how will the ecosystem (job sites, technology providers, agencies, etc.) need to adapt to this shift?
  • What is the next "horizon" for data-driven recruiting?

Enjoyed the conversation with Doug? Check out HRchat episode 388 - featuring Joveo Founder & CEO, Kshitij Jain.

04 Aug 2022Developing Emotional Intelligence with Debbie Muno, Genos North America.00:27:38

Emotional Intelligence impacts workplace performance, leadership effectiveness, retention, engagement, sales, customer service, resilience, and teamwork - all outcomes that organizations are continually striving to hire for and develop.

It is a measurement of our ability to recognize, respond to, and cope with emotions. While traditional corporate training programs tend to focus on hard skills, teaching employees emotional intelligence is equally important.

A recent report on the subject, published by the Capgemini Research Institute suggested that “it wasn’t only teams and individuals who benefit from developing a greater capacity for emotional intelligence. Research conducted for the report found that, on average, 60% of the surveyed organizations realized significant benefits by having employees who display high EI.”

Bill's guest today is Debbie Muno, Managing Director at Genos North America.

Thirty-plus years of working, psychometric assessment experience, and a formal EI education led Debbie in 2016 to the role as an Authorized Distributor and Master Trainer for Genos International, in which she works with coaches, consultants and trainers, organizational development specialists, HR professionals, corporate trainers, and business owners – helping them to fill the critical need of advancing emotional intelligence inside of their client companies and organizations.

Questions For Debbie Include:

  • Genos North America was formed to focus on growing and supporting the presence of Genos, the Certified Genos Emotional Intelligence Practitioner community, and clients in the US and Canada.  Tell us more!
  • Can emotional intelligence be taught/developed?
  • Does Emotional Intelligence impact wellbeing? If so, how?
  • Talk about some of the benefits to the bottom line that employees and teams see following the implementation of Genos programs within organizations.
  • Is EI development just for leaders?
  • How can emotional intelligence training impact one’s personal life?

More About Debbie Muno

Debbie’s fascination with Emotional Intelligence started long before she even knew that it had a formal name. Working in television, competing in gymnastics, and being a business owner all taught her to address, man

19 Aug 2022Are We Talking Ourselves into a Recession? With David Garrett, Joveo00:23:52

The U.S. has witnessed unprecedented increases in job openings and, subsequently, a tight labor market. The economy saw a sharp post-Covid recovery last year, however, in recent months, high inflation and ensuing policy tightening has lowered growth forecasts and caused many to expect a fall in the creation of jobs.

Indeed, the economy contracted at an annual rate of 0.9% in the three months to July. Yet July also saw 528,000 new jobs as the unemployment rate fell to 3.5%!

So what's going on? Should we be worried or are things actually looking pretty good for the remainder of this year and 2023?

In this HRchat episode, we take a lens to the US economy and labor market and ask "are we talking ourselves into a recession?"

Our guest today is David Garrett, Customer Success Manager and Economic Researcher at Joveo. David is also one of the key architects of Joveo's new U.S. Labor Market Forecast: Economic Impact on Talent Demand Across Industries and Occupations.

Questions For David Include:

  • The US economy has shrunk for the second quarter in a row, a milestone that in many countries would be considered an economic recession. The contraction, at an annual rate of 0.9% in the three months to July, has drawn widespread attention as worries about the economy grow. Should we be worried?
  • What is a technical recession?
  • The July 2022 US Jobs report showed Payrolls actually increased by 528,000! How is this potential recession different from previous incarnations
  • Given there's nothing fundamentally 'wrong' with the US economy, are we 'talking ourselves into a recession'?
  • How are/should HR pros and leaders prepare for a downturn?
  • Will some jobs remain in demand even if a recession does hit? If so, which ones?
  • How is Joveo helping

It is: Can you share one piece of advice or some direction you were given by a mentor, leader or colleague that inspired you to perform at a higher level in your career?  So, Chris, we'd love to hear your answer to this question.
  • We're looking at a potential recession although that's not by any means certain. If it does happen it will be a unique kind of recession. How do you think the labor market in the US will fair over the next year and will we see budgets cut for hiring, onboarding and career development?

26 Aug 2022Analytics and AI Leadership Coaches with David Creelman00:23:39

In this episode, we ask: once we have all our basic analytics in place, how can we continue to improve decision-making? Listen too, as we preview the upcoming AGILITY REIMAGED Summit in beautiful downtown Toronto on Sept 14th

Joining guest host Pauline James on the show is David Creelman, CEO at Creelman Research. David provides training and consulting on how managers can use analytics (rather than “do” analytics) and is a recognized thought leader in people management and a Fellow of the Centre for Evidence-based Management.

Based in Toronto and Kuala Lumpur, David works with think tanks such as Talent Tech Labs in New York, Works Institute out of Tokyo, Workforce Institute in Boston, and CRF in London.

Questions For David Include:

  • You and I worked together on a project for the European Union IPO division last year, which is responsible for intellectual property like trademarks. They needed to adapt to meet the opportunities AI technology. Can you tell the audience about that project and it matters?
  • You are joining me on a panel at the AGILITY REIMAGED Summit - produced by the HR Gazette and Anchor HR - in downtown Toronto on Sept 14th. The panel will discuss 'How do People and Culture divisions need to adapt their structure, approach, and services to ensure they are equipped to meet the changing needs of employees and the organization?' Tell our listeners about the panel and some of the hoped-for learning outcomes.
  • In a recent article on tlnt.com, you write: "It’s probably fair to say that people analytics has finished its hype cycle. Most analytics practitioners have their feet firmly on the ground and are busy improving data quality, dashboards, and the skillsets of HR professionals who use their data... so, the sort of question I’m often asked is "where does people analytics go from here? Or, once we have all our basic analytics in place, how can we continue to improve decision-making?" The answer is to shift from a focus on data to a focus on evidence and to shift from talking about analytics to talking about evidence-based

01 Sep 2022Making ESG a Part of Your Business Strategy with Scott Lane, Speeki00:22:20

If you’re a business leader, you’re legally obliged to optimize your strategy and resources to maximize shareholder return. This may lead you to assume that it’s not your responsibility, or in your best interest, to care about the environment, social, and governance issues (ESG).

But, actually, making ESG a part of your business strategy can unlock growth opportunities, reduce costs, and future-proof your brand in the eyes of an increasingly conscious public. Listen to this HRchat episode to learn how!

Our returning guest is Scott Lane, Founder and CEO of Speeki, a group focused on transforming compliance hotlines and other compliance areas using Ai technologies.

Speeki is also a player in compliance certifications and compliance auditing and one of the few bodies accredited by ISO for certifications under the ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Standard.

Questions Include:

  • There seems to be lots of dialogue right now about ESG and whether it is a fad or something that will stay around. What do you think?
  • Is this just for large global companies or is there a place for smaller companies to build ESG?
  • You recently presented a webinar called Combining a whistleblower program with social listening to generate data. The webinar's goal was to show how to generate real data for one's #ESG and compliance efforts by combining an active #whistleblowing program with a proactive social listening tool. Can you tell me more?
  • How do most Human Resources teams get involved in ESG?
  • Does the process typically start with HR or is there a ESG officer?
  • Where do you think this ESG area will go in the future?

Want to hear more about Speeki? Check out HRchat episode 357, released in late 2021.

02 Sep 2022Employee Microlearning and Knowledge Reinforcement with Jason Mundy, Qstream00:23:57

In this HRchat episode, Bill Banham is joined by Jason Mundy, VP of Marketing at Qstream, the leading enterprise microlearning and knowledge reinforcement solution proven by science and in practice to boost learner performance.

Questions Include:

  • What is microlearning?
  • Based on the findings from the 2022 Workplace Learning Report, how effective are current workplace learning programs? Where must more work be done to make them more effective and efficient?
  • How important are workplace learning programs in relation to fighting employee burnout and attracting/retaining talent?
  • Nearly half of those surveyed in the 2022 Workplace Learning Report say their organization needs a digital-led approach to training/learning opportunities so employees can learn on their own time. Why the resistance from leadership to go digital?
  • Follow up: How can organizations achieve a digital-led approach to training/learning? What are the benefits of employees training/learning on their own time?
  • According to Qstream’s study, compensation isn’t everything: nearly half of those surveyed think their employees would rather be offered more comprehensive and effective learning/training opportunities than be paid more. Why do you think that is?

About the 2022 Workplace Learning Report

In March and April 2022, Qstream commissioned independent research company ResearchScape to poll 534 U.S. business managers representing a variety of industries and company sizes to better understand the role that learning initiatives will play in combating the current workforce challenges. The survey also sought to uncover the perceived effectiveness of workplace learning programs today—and where more work must be done

Bill Banham is joined in HRchat episode 481 by Ian Cook, Vice President, People Analytics at Visier, to talk all things people analytics.

Ian is an advocate for the crucial role that people play in helping companies thrive. His career has focused on enabling people, teams and companies to perform at their best. For the last 15 years, Ian has been helping leaders elevate their HR strategies and programs through the effective use of people analytics. At Visier, Ian led the development of their market-leading solution and is now focused on the overall strategy for the people analytics business.

Questions For Ian Include:

  • In your work you talk about a People Impact Gap.  What is this gap and why do you think it is so important?
  • So if this gap exists and is crucial to business, what does it take to close the gap? - Do you have any examples?
  • You recently commented on research by Raj Chetty that identifies the impact of networks on people's ability to access better opportunities. Why does the ability to network with people in a higher economic bracket enable people to improve their own economic mobility?
  • What advice would you give an HR leader who is looking to start closing this gap or even improve how they are supporting their business?
  • "HR is evolving from being focused on its programs and activities to helping people managers make better decisions in the flow of work". Can you paint a picture of how People Analytics technologies have evolved over the past 10 years and the leaps forward in ways to better understand how employees behave and perform caused by/alongside the pandemic?
