Gideon speaks to Marissa Wells, a professional polo player and polo instructor, who has played at both intercollegiate and interscholastic levels. Marissa’s family has a long lasting relationship with polo, with both her grandparents and parents having played the sport. 

Marissa starts by talking to us about the handicap system in polo, giving us an explanation of the two handicaps men can have and the four handicaps women can have, for both grass and arena polo. Marissa is a nine handicap player in arena polo, meaning she is one of the highest level achievable by a player. 

Deeper into the interview, Marissa talks about the process of being picked for a game and what a typical week would look like for her as a player, before talking about what some off the differences she has noticed between the interscholastic and intercollegiate. She also mentions that she felt the quality levels in both the interscholastic and intercollegiate were very similar as she would play with many of the same people between both disciplines. 

Marissa and Gideon briefly touch on her TikTok career, which blew up after she posted a wrapping video of one of her horses. Marissa explains that she plans to continue with influencing and hopes to be able to make a living from it, so as she can take the pressure of having to earn a living from her polo. 

Moving towards the end of the interview, Marissa reminisces on some of her greatest achievements, mainly the back to back National Championships wins with A&M in 2018 and 2019. She also mentions one of the highlights of her career was winning the open championships playing alongside her mother. Gideon and Marissa finish off with some rapid fire questions.

On this episode of the podcast, Gideon is joined by long time friend and technology consultant for Accenture, Christian. Christian grew up in Guatemala City playing polo where he developed a passion for the sport and for the animal. He knew he wanted to continue polo in college and with all his friends leaving Guatemala to study abroad he settled on Texas A&M.

Throughout the podcast, Christian talks about his success in polo, winning the Intercollegiate championship three out of his four years. He also discusses how he had to make a decision to prioritize his career over polo, taking a consulting job with Deloitte and later Accenture. 

The guys go into detail on three championship wins sharing the highs and the lows of an awesome team with many ups and downs;  including a fall for Gideon his senior year during the regional championship while beating SMU by 4 goals.  

Switching gears, Gideon talks to Christian about his professional career as a technology consultant at Accenture. Christian explains why he decided to choose Accenture over Deloitte. He speaks about some of the best parts of his job and some of his frustrations too. 

The guys round the podcast out with Christian and his girlfriend's, Sofia, snack business.  A common Bolivian crunchy cassava cheese snack, Cuñapes, are a really popular snack that they are bringing to the US.

On this episode, Gideon is joined by Lucile Vigouroux, the owner and founder of Propulsion Equine PEMF. They offer a practice which provides pulse electromagnetic field sessions to horses, particularly hunter jumpers and show horses on the east coast circuit of the United States. Lucile is also a freelance journalist who is published in several publications about equine healthcare, veterinary medicine, nutrition and management. 

Sharing her background, Lucile says she came for a very non horsey background. She was born and raised in Paris to a race car driving family. She explains how she woke up one day at 10 years old and decided that horses were going to be her life. For two years, she learned everything she could about horses and eventually worked a position at a farm where she learnt how to ride. She got a bachelor’s degree in equine science from Centenary College, before going for a masters degree in equine performance health and welfare from Trent University in Nottingham England in 2019. This was cut short due to the pandemic and she was forced to move back to the US. Despite her many set backs due to the pandemic, like losing her job and apartment, she persevered and began her entrepreneurship journey. 

Lucile goes on to explain in detail what Post Electro-Magnetic Field (PEMF) Therapy and how it works.  She tells us about MagnaWave, the training they receive, and some of the awesome stuff that company provides for them. She also explains that the therapy is to reduce pain and inflammation and can be used on all animals, including humans! She has 215 horses for the month of July and has been growing month over month.
