07 Dec 2019 | #16 Jodi's Trail Adjustments After a Baby | 00:57:54
In this episode, we talk with Jodi. Hiking and backpacking was a big part of Jodi’s life before becoming a mom. She and her husband went on a handful of backpacking trips around the US and worldwide. They had the adventure bug and explored places that are probably on a lot of people’s bucket lists. She knew that she wanted to incorporate hiking into her life when she became a mom. When some unexpected life challenges were thrown at her family one month before she gave birth, it changed the dynamics of what trail life would look like for the family. We dive deep into what hiking was like for Jodi before motherhood, and what it’s like now with an almost 3-year-old. If you are a parent aspiring to get your child camping or o the trail and need some motivation to do so, this is the episode for you! In this episode, we talk with Erin Egan who is the host of the Hiking Thru podcast. She started the podcast as a way to share experiences from other thru-hikers with an end goal of her own thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail. Erin's plan was to set out for her thru-hike of the PCT on April 4th. However, the world has changed with the recent COVID-19 pandemic which has affected many people’s plans, including thru-hikers. The original interview with Erin was recorded on March 5th but with all the changes to the world in the past month, we decided to follow up with Erin to discuss how her plans have changed since the COVID-19 outbreak and what her current state of emotions is around all of this. This all-encompassing episode highlights our most recent discussion with Erin about the current state of her hike followed by our original discussion with her a month ago about her initial preparation and plans. 12 Feb 2023 | #104 Hiking Thru Life's Reflection on 2022 | 00:14:46
2022 was a year of transition for us. We had some big transitions happen in our lives throughout the past year - a new house, a camper, job changes, and most importantly, the birth of our daughter. While we had some focus diverted from Hiking Thru Life, we did not lose sight of the core values we have that inspired Hiking Thru Life and the value of the outdoors. We are now just hiking at a different pace these days. One thing we have come to appreciate is that we don't always have to accomplish the grandest goals, rather we need to adjust to the situation in front of us and sometimes those adjustments can be our greatest accomplishments.
