28 Mar 2022Did The Father Turn His Face Away?00:38:42

Send us a text

We sing this line in a classic worship song that many of us would know, that the Father turned his face away, but is it true? Did God the Father turn his face away, did some form of disconnection take place while Christ was on the cross quoting Psalm 22? This question permeates many important areas of theology including the trinity - the way the God head functions, atonement & Gods character. So this question deserves our attention and should be explored in order that we land where the Bible does on it.
Join our special guest Ed from Redeemed Podcast as we discuss Psalm 22,  why the father didn't turn his face away and give you some direction on how to start studying this subject.

21 Apr 2022Politics & Faith with Wendy Francis from ACL00:48:51

Send us a text

When I say politics there will be some of us that run for the hills, others that activate and join the fight and then some that want to stay neutral and invest the bare minimum. Regardless where you are at, PLEASE listen to this episode.

Wendy from ACL gives you and I some incredible insight to the effectiveness of ACL and how your voice, participation and most importantly VOTE makes a difference in Australian Politics. We discuss everything from the need for Church & State to collide, the impact of lobbying, the parental rights bill (ALL PARENTS BE AWARE!!!!) along with this upcoming federal election and how to actually vote - as in, the process and how the ballot forms work.

I can confidently say, Wendy has helped me wrap my head around Australian politics and taken away the confusion and also overwhelming hopelessness I sometimes felt around politics. Now I feel confident on how to approach this federal election and I feel empowered to vote below the line and really do my research on who gets my vote. This isn’t scary, my voice counts, and that means YOUR voice counts as well.

27 May 2022Hidden Sin - A Solution for the Church on Porn, Infidelity & Sexual Brokeness01:02:18

Send us a text

According to research overseas 70% of men within the church engage in watching porn regularly and over 50% pastors also struggle. It goes even higher to 76% when its men under the age of 25. But women aren’t void of this either, there is a silent battle going on for women as well. 87% of christian women have seen porn and of that under the age of 30, 33% watch porn monthly. Keep in mind that 40% of viewers worldwide are women. The devastating side effect of that is that 94% of our children will see porn before the age of 14 with the average age of introduction at 8. Porn & Sexual addiction is a pervasive and destructive hidden sin that is happening within the Church and we must start addressing it. So it begs the question, why is it not discussed regularly and why is the Church so ill equipped to handle it?

In this episode, we address the why and more importantly the HOPE that is available to us all. Bernard runs a ministry throughout Australia and NZ that helps equip churches and sees individuals set on a path of freedom and restoration from this often overlooked and guilt ridden, shame-filled battle that so many are in. We discuss everything from why it's a growing issue, how to find support, how leaders can create change, how you can support others (including what not to do!!!!) and what the journey of restoration looks like.

Whether this a journey you are on yourself, know someone who is or potentially just blissfully unaware, then this episode is for you. Let us grow in understanding and grace so that we can work towards wholeness and redemption from the waging war that is silently sweeping our church and devastating lives.

12 Mar 2023Sin of Omission00:42:32

Send us a text

We give a lot of attention, rightly so, to the sins we have committed both intentionally and unintentionally. But do you ever give thought to the sin of omission, the sin committed purely by NOT taking action? Not sure what we are talking about? Think about the moments where you have ignored the call to do good work, God's work.

 James 4:17 reads, If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

We need to be paying just as much attention to those moments when we don’t do what we ought to do. Repenting, with a heart to change and grow.

I first heard Jacinda speak about this in 2022 and decided to have her on to help us unpack it a little further.. We discuss what this looks like in the day to day, what scripture has to say about it, how it impacts our faith, along with some practical steps (cue the 5 P’s!)  on how to help us grow in this area. Promise you, you will greatly benefit from hearing this one. I have seen great change in my own life from it, I have no doubt you will as well.

03 Sep 2020Forgiveness & Deep Wounds | Part One00:43:47

Send us a text

We are mega excited to be releasing a 2 part series on forgiveness. Part 1 will look at the deeper wounds, the wounds that we carry around with us for years. Part 2 will look at the day to day stuff.

Forgiveness is HARD. But just because something is hard does not mean that we avoid it. In fact, it should actually make us work harder at it. In this episode, we chat about how to practically move forward with the deeper wounds we carry. And not just move forward carrying them, but actually start to unpack them and move toward forgiveness. This will be hard for a lot of us to hear as it may bring up past trauma or issues that you may be trying to deal with. But that is all the more reason to listen! Come as you are.

11 Sep 2020Forgiveness Day to Day | Part Two00:45:30

Send us a text

This is our second and final episode in our forgiveness mini series. In this episode we chat through the practicalities of everyday forgiveness and mull over Scripture that explicitly commands this type of living. This is something that all Christians could be working on. We hope you feel encouraged, yet challenged - we certainly are!

Day to Day forgiveness:

  1. Reasons why we hurt other people (reasons why we sin):
     - as a reaction to our situation (to feel a bit of control or power?)
     - because we are selfish and want what we think is best for ourselves and we don’t care what it takes or who it hurts for us to get it

Matthew 18:21-35 New International Version (NIV)

The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant

21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”

22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.[a]

23 “Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold[b] was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.

26 “At this the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ 27 The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.

28 “But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins. He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded.

29 “His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.’

30 “But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. 31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.

32 “Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33 Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ 34 In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.

35 “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”

  • This passage shows us that God has shown us such a magnitude of mercy that our only reposes should be to show mercy to others. Jesus says in Luke 6, “Be merciful, just as you Father is merciful.” Yet this is not what we encounter from the forgiven slave in this parable.
  • The debt of the second man was not insignificant, but compared to the first it is so minimal! The first man was greedy and almost unbelievably oblivious to the implications of his own forgiveness that he just received.
  • When the fellow servant fell down and pleaded with him, it should have reminded him of his recent circumstances, but still was unmoved.
  • Jesus is trying to make the point here that the servant who owed much did not see the weight of his debt he had against the king.
  • Those who fail to see how much they have been forgiven, will also fail to extend forgiveness to others. He was forgiven much and t

22 Oct 2020Bad Theology Hurts People | Part One00:52:48

Send us a text

This episode is dedicated to Greg Peisley, the late Senior Pastor of Pitt Town Anglican Community Church. He went home to be with Jesus on the 14th of September 2020, at 59 years of age, after a 14 month battle with brain cancer. He was a trustworthy handler of the Bible who cared deeply about the souls of his flock and therefore about sound doctrine.

In Paul’s writing throughout the Epistles, he encourages his readers to be trustworthy recipients of the truth of the Word of God and then to go on entrusting this Word, the Bible, to others. As someone who has been privileged to sit under a pastor (for pretty well all of my life), who cared deeply about teaching biblical truth, I have grown in my understanding of just how important this is. I wanted to encourage you all to be avid readers of God’s Word and to CARE DEEPLY about the things you read in His Word, building up your skills in spiritual discernment so that you are able to recognise Satan’s subtle (or not so subtle) pulls for your attention. Kirst xx

30 Oct 2020Bad Theology Hurts People | Part Two00:49:10

Send us a text

In our previous episode on this topic, we explored the various ways experience, reasoning, & tradition/religion impact the way we read the word. In this episode Cass more looks into the WHY/HOW & WHAT NEXT to sorting out the bad theology to the good. Why is ‘bad theology hurtful?’ Ultimately, it damages our view of God & our relationship with him. Cass gets personal, sharing three main theological views she took on and how God, through time, community, and most importantly Scripture, has pulled her out of those damaging beliefs. Leading you through Matthew 7 you will see Jesus warning on false teachers and the subtle errors out there and how to practically discern what is good and true and how to move forward in pursuing solid teaching.  A lifelong journey for sure, but always a good check-in!

Ladies! You may have seen the recently released documentary on Netflix called ‘The Social Dilemma’. If you haven’t, give it a watch BEFORE you listen to this episode. We have found it immensely helpful in unpacking the impacts social media is having on our psychology and on our actual behaviour (both online and offline)! Whilst there is TONNES of useful and important information in the documentary, we wanted to also address the usage of social media from a Christian perspective. This episode gets to the heart of the issue and then gives 10 practical tips on how to ensure social media isn’t:
a) taking over your life and
b) building YOUR kingdom instead of Jesus’.

Issues brought up but not quite labelled:

  • The root of the problem of social media is SIN… sin is the reason why ‘users’ will keep using. Genesis 6:5
     Psalm 51:5
  • Sin ends up being the problem because of the way we don’t have any accountability… it’s me and the phone…

  • The idea that social media and online activity is actually changing real-life social behaviours is another theme that is brought up in the documentary. And I mean, it’s not that hard to see this, look at the porn industry and the havoc it has reaped on real-life relationships. How do you see social media impacting your real-life relationships? Spiritual habits, relationships, sex life,

Are we letting our minds being held captive to the world/others/social?

2 Corinthians 10:5

So what are we doing when we are allowing our minds to be held captive to a social media machine? How do we make it obedient to Christ rather than entertaining lies that we have believed and FEEDING those lies?

FALSE HUMILITY & VIRTUE SIGNALLING - we are called to be boasting in our weakness so that the Glory of God may prevail.

False Humility - 1 Corinthians 6 Body is a temple. What are we portraying? Modest?

FAKE YOU - one way or another
VIRTUE SIGNALLING

Matthew 12:36

1 Peter 2: 9

Matt 25:31-46

Practical Tips:

  1. Delete the profiles of social media that you dabble in but don’t really have an interest in.
  2. Have a decent break from social media.
  3. Clear out who you follow on your social media accounts.
  4. Have times in the day, where you bench your phone.
  5. Charge your phone OUT of your room.
  6. Turn off notifications on your phone.
  7. Check how much time you're spending on your apps on your phone (in settings).
  8. Don’t click on highly emotive articles.
  9. Bible before phone, every day.
  10. Change your habits around how you use your phone.

Why celebrate Christmas? Should we celebrate Christmas? But isn’t Christmas pagan? I mean, Santa... come on?! In this episode, we discuss all things Christmas, the claims and divisions, history and present and of course the Jesus vs Santa debate.

Led by a joyful joyful jingle bell (Kirst) and a historic and self proclaimed Grinch (Cass), you will hear ultimately what it’s all about and how it can practically play out. Plus maybe hear some poorly sung Christmas renditions along the way 😆

More likely correct are scholars such as Oscar Cullmann, who points to the uncertainty regarding the date of Jesus’ birth in the first three centuries of the Christian era and believes the traditional date was determined by the church sometime in the fourth century. The date was most likely chosen as the Christian equivalent to the Roman holiday of
sol invictus (“the invincible sun god”), celebrated at the time of winter solstice, the message being that Jesus was Christians’ true invincible “sun” - Andreas Kostenberger

Our culture is LOUD about anything to do with sex. But as Christians, we need to make sure that the Bible has LOUDEST voice. In this episode, we explore a few claims around sex and marriage, compare culture with biblical truth and ultimately unpack the design God has for marriage and sex.

The Claims:
- Adam and Eve didn’t have a ceremony and didn’t sign a piece of paper to be bound together. They had sex. Therefore, premarital sex does not exist.
- Sex is marriage.
- End game dating = sex is okay because you’ll eventually get married/you’re treating it like marriage now.

16 Dec 2020Sex: The Heart of the Matter00:38:59

Send us a text

This is part two of our latest series looking at the claims out there justifying sex outside of marriage. This episode we go straight to the heart of the matter.
Do we really believe God knows us better than ourselves when it comes to sex? Can we trust God... even with our sex life? We also address shame & guilt. The way Jesus responds to our brokenness, our desires, and how this impacts the way we play out life and our relationships. It's all about healing & restoration.  It's all about a woman and a well.

29 Dec 2020Ditch Your NY Resolutions!00:34:48

Send us a text

Wether or not you're someone who loves a list or even a set of goals, New Years Resolutions seem to have a pull with everyone! In this episode we have a look at some biblical goals that Paul describes in his letter to the Philippians (in chapter 3). Paul's goals got us thinking about how easy it is for us to focus our attention, our giftings, our money - on WORLDLY goals... after all, that's what everyone else is doing, right? Paul's words in this letter are a real rebuke and challenge to modern day worldly thinking and a challenge to where our citizenship, as Christian women, really is: here or in heaven. Perfect timing as we begin a whole new year...

What does the Bible say about goals?
READ Philippians 3

Diagnostic: what does my life actually say about my goals?

How does they way you spend your time, your talents (your gifts) and treasure (your $$) communicate about what your goals are in life?

How to bring my NY goals in-line with Gospel goals…

  • Bible reading plan: what’s your plan for your Bible reading this year? Bible in a year? Whole of the Old Testament? Whole of the NT?
  • What’s your prayer plan?
  • Who is your Bible reading encourager and accountability partner going to be?
  • Who are you going to meet up with to read the Bible this year?
  • Who am I going to commit to praying for this year? Maybe a couple of non-Christians?
  • What are you going to put your name down for, for serving in your Church?
  • How are you going to support the Spread of the Kingdom financially this year?

16 Jun 20217 Deadly Sins: Lust00:40:43

Lust is a secret and pervasive sin that can eat at our hearts, mind and soul and impact all areas of our lives. More so, when left unchecked it creates a ongoing shame & guilt cycle that is hard to overcome without the right community and support. Cass tackles various aspects in this episode including;
* Biblical understanding of Lust vs worldly understanding
* how historically the church has responded poorly
* Psychology behind lust & other sexual addictions
* Porn industry & impacts
* the need for more Grace then ever before
* how to seek help & support
* how to help those struggling with Lust/sexual addition

This isn’t a little topic. You have been warned. But it’s a topic & sin we need to be discussing more as the Church so we can help and support eachother out of it.  Also watch this space, later this year we will be releasing a whole series on Porn, Sexual addition & love addictions.

Well if you're like us, you would have been incredibly challenged by what the Bible has to say on greed, gluttony, slothfulness, pride, anger, envy and lust.  This has been a big series and so we have come to the end and realised we missed a few key points for some of the sins plus we thought we'd review what we learnt and spend some time thinking about how to realistically apply killing off these sins in our lives and how to encourage others to do the same! 23 Jul 2021Biblical Theology: Themes & patterns throughout the Bible00:38:10

Send us a text

In this episode, we are going to have a look at the big THEMES of the Bible and how they pop up time and time again, shaping the overarching narrative of the Bible. So if you’re a picture person, it might be handy for you to draw these themes in the front cover of your Bible and then assign a highlighter colour to each one and when you’re reading and you notice a particular theme jump out, you could highlight it in that colour.

Themes:
Lamb = sacrifice
Handshake = covenant
X = sin and judgement
Temple = God’s presence
Speech bubble = a new word from God i.e. Prophesy
Crown = kingship
People = God's people
Grass = land
Cross = Godʼs sent rescuer/rescue plan

This episode presents a very unique opportunity for us to all hear a first-hand account from one of our sisters in Christ, Kaytie from More than Wildflowers. Earlier this year Kaytie gave birth to her third child,  her stillborn son, Beaumont. We have followed her journey and invited her on to share as we were so encouraged by her faithfulness in the midst of such unimaginable grief in this season of life.  In this episode, we cover everything from her pregnancy, birth and moments following to the impact on her families faith and how God has worked in the midst of it all.  Along with practical advice to help us learn how best to support and walk alongside others on this journey.  We cannot thank Kaytie enough for her courage and willingness to share this very vulnerable and powerful journey with us.

Anne spent 80 years of her life single, until she married her husband, Barry at the sweet age of 82! We ask Anne some of our listeners questions in regard to living the single life including finding contentment in being single and very much the joy and blessing of living as a single.

This is for the lovers, haters & inbetweeners of the famous Enneagram. We look at the history, the introduction of it into Christianity & more importantly, explore whether there is space for it in the Church and our faith.  Our heart ultimately is to test all things against the Word of God and that's what we ultimately aim to do in this episode while sharing our own personal experiences & journeys with the Enneagram.

Oh its sad writing this one up but unfortunately we have to share the news that Kirst has decided to step out of Her Theology. Tune in to find out what God has been doing in her life recently and the next steps as she focuses on family and ministry within the Church.  It's never fun saying goodbye to a good thing but I'm sure we can all look back and reflect on what an incredibly fun & encouraging impact Kirst has made on us all! God has used her powerfully to help bring truth and I have no doubt he will continue to do so in her personal life.

This isn't the end of Her Theology and our incredible community, as I, Cass, will continue to interview some incredible guest speakers and explore various topics and theological views with experts in the field. Already we have three interviews ready to drop in the New Year We hope you stay along for the ride!

20 Jan 2022Fear & Loathing In The Church - A Couch Divided & Her Theology01:19:17

Send us a text

A Couch Divided is an American podcast where psychology meets a christian worldview.  In this episode we get together and discuss what it looks like contending for the faith, unity & truth in a world that is strongly fueled by fear messaging, changing narratives & government policies that are impacting our lives, quite often, for the worst.  Some of the topics we cover include;

  • The impact of Fear & propaganda
  • Group Think Phenomenon
  • Theonomy, God’s law & grace
  • Cancel Culture/Virtue Signaling
  • Generational Impact of C/Vd fear
  • Government Mandates & Church Gatherings
  • Fighting for truth & standing in conviction

It's vital we open up the space for robust conversations that share differing views. We are aware that many may not agree with all the views presented in this episode, but I implore you to listen and weigh up the thoughts. We must know what we believe and understand both sides to be confident in our views. The beauty of the church is that we can hold different opinions on the open handed things but still stand united through Christ & agree on the important stuff, that Christ died & rose again, we are redeemed & slowly being transformed into His image for the days set before us in Eternity - partying as one big family! May we all continue to look upwards through such unsettling times and fight to stand shoulder to shoulder for the Glory of God.
