She gets open and vulnerable about how the BLM movement impacted black creators and how ( FINALLY!) opportunities have changed for Black creators and people of colour, the importance of inclusivity in social media and how it felt to see so many white influencers get brand deals and collaborations that she didn’t - and the blanket excuses she was given that didn’t add up. Joslyene shares so many great TIPS for entering the content creator space, the power of slow growth and knowing your value, the importance of overdelivering and building relationships to grow, the grounding of finding your people and the mindset you need to have in order to succeed in the content creation space. PLUS: How long it took for her husband to get on board with her content creating career - and how he eventually stepped in fully with her, the microagressions and assumptions that they experience as a bi racial couple, and the shocking thing said to her in the hospital elevator after giving birth. 23 May 2023 | #37 - SOLO on why SELF CARE shouldn't be defined by society, HOW to show up authentically in all areas of life, navigating when to use a FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT attitude and why CJ thinks she SUCKS. | 00:55:36 | |
It’s a SOLO episode friends, and we are going all over the place today! We talk about the idea of “fake it till you make it”, what it used to mean for us and what it means to us NOW, using a fake it till you make it mentality as a mechanism to pump yourself up and channel the energy you want to feel, and not wanting to push through and put on a face anymore. We cover the layers of AUTHENTICITY, the pressures social media and imposter syndrome, the correlation of showing up authentically and confidence, how everyone’s “authentic” looks different ( and it should!!), and why we feel authenticity is a bit of a buzzword right now. We open up about what “listening to your gut” feels like for us, why you need to build trust with yourself to tap into your intuition and how our experiences shape our responses. We are flipping the script on SELF CARE, how social media is turning self care into a comparison game, why we view self care as an “extra” instead of the little necessary things, why our self care may not be yours. We chat the power of the phrases "I get to" and "I choose to", the martyrdom of motherhood, taking back the "little things" and why we are channelling big Grandma energy. We cover the importance of investing in yourself, HOW we are currently investing in us, the FREE and low cost ways you can - and ARE investing in yourself daily and why setting boundaries is an important piece of doing so. PLUS: -Megan shares her personal struggle with distinguishing excitement and anxiety as a trauma response, and the journey of allowing herself to feel excitement without anticipating what will go wrong. -CJ opens up about battling perfectionism, how she’s actively working to let go and shed the things that hinder her, and the layers of perfectionism and the vulnerability that happens from self awareness. -Erikas favourite self care methods and why she champions the simple things being the most important self care. Today we are sitting down with mother of two, contnet creator, and former Miss Universe Canada Siera Bearchell. We are chatting with Siera about how life changed for her after competing in Miss Universe, how she navigated the media blitz that followed her, how the learnings and experience from her pageant journey impacted her choices, values and career path as an adult and what is is REALLY like behind the scenes of the Miss Universe curtain. Siera shared how and WHY she got into pageants, the cause near and dear to her that propelled her to take the stage, the misconceptions about the pageant world and why it is SO much more than swimsuit and evening gown competitions we see on TV. She tells us about the moment she was told she didn’t have “the Miss Universe Body”, how being forced to lose weight resulted in her losing her confidence and why she dumped her team before the competition and did things her own way. We really dig into the topic of confidence - why it is important to feel solid in who you are, how truly knowing yourself directly correlates with confidence, the growth that happens when you lean in to the uncomfortable and the power of being comfortable with not knowing the answer. She talks about embracing the platform she was unintentionally given, how she leaned in to social media to continue conversations about body positivity, why she puts out content on socials that she wants to consume, the pressures to be “relatable” and how she deals with hate from social media trolls. Siera shares about parenting in the public eye, how she navigates sharing her family on socials, the importance of setting boundaries and how she leans into her personal bullshit meter. PLUS: The pressures put on women to stay youthful as we age, watching your life through your eyes and not through your phone, why working on yourself will always get you ahead, and why kindness always wins.
