28 Jun 2023Do the Work & Make the Mistakes with Dr. Benjamin Ritter00:47:57
Dr. Benjamin Ritter is a leadership and career coach, leadership and development director, values geek, international speaker, podcaster, author, mentor, and passionate about guiding others in finding, creating, and sustaining a career they love. During his time as a healthcare executive and side-hustling entrepreneur, he was overworked and underutilized, and despite his professional success, he didn't feel successful.

After much introspection, he pivoted professionally and launched himself into the field of leadership development and personal empowerment. The culmination of these events and his previous personal, professional and educational experiences led him to create Live for Yourself Consulting, a coaching consulting company that is focused on leading and empowering entrepreneurs - and entrepreneurs that feel overwhelmed, overworked, or underutilized - so they can create a career that they love.

Among many other things, Ben defined for us his three Cs of self-leadership: clarity, confidence and control. He also shares with us how he keeps his clients going when the going gets tough. He encourages health coaches to look at their first year(s) the same way you would look at any entry-level job where you need to put in the time and do the work. Finally, he emphasizes that everything is easier when you get specific and when you charge what you are worth!

We know you can't wait to learn more, to apply to your coaching relationships with clients and yourself. Enjoy!
10 May 2023Start the Easy Way (then Grow) with Ethan Schiff00:57:26

Ethan Schiff is a health coach who launched himself into the realm of coaching after his own life-changing health transformation. Sound familiar?

Ethan was 312 lbs and had been dieting for the majority of his life. So, he went on a quest to unlearn everything he had been taught about nutrition, weight loss and health, to create a new approach. He lost 130 lbs and transformed his entire life by basically experimenting first on himself.

Ethan is the founder of Optimized Health, a health coaching company that has coaches on staff to help facilitate lifestyle transformations for clients all over the world. This is pretty much the dream for most of us, we’d say. And Ethan has created it expertly.

During this episode, Ethan tells us about his frustration with trying to educate the public about health coaching. He also explains how he left his successful business to start coaching and how he handled imposter syndrome (he has some pretty cool insights). He also explains how you can start on a Friday and have a business by Monday.

One of the main points that we don’t want you to miss is Ethan’s advice on marketing - it is not trickery. Be authentic and get the clients who want to work with you for the right reasons.

This episode is your chance to learn from a veteran health coach who's still in the game, still in the trenches, and successfully changing lives. Please enjoy!

12 Jul 2023Take Charge of Your Hearing, Emotions & Mood with Wayne Altman01:03:46
This is a super fun and very specific episode with Wayne Altman, a military veteran who suffered hearing damage from his time in service. In dealing with chronic debilitating tinnitus, Wayne discovered the healing properties of sound frequencies. Now he now owns and runs a company called Melody Clouds that offers subscription-based binaural beats and Solfeggio frequency healing soundtracks.

Wayne shares with us his story of coming from his background in the army (serving in Desert Storm) to being a complete convert to the healing power of audio. He also gets into how he was convinced that audio was actually the solution for him and not just a placebo.

Wayne describes Tinnitus as a manifestation of nerve damage in your ears. Sometimes it is simply an annoying condition but it can also be quite debilitating and cause fatigue, stress, sleep problems, trouble concentrating, memory problems, depression, anxiety and irritability, headaches, problems with work and family life, and even suicide. So you can see how finding a solution such as binaural beats can be a lifesaver.

It's a super interesting conversation about health, healing, the power of music/sound and business development. Wayne is really fun to talk with and listen to and he will give all you health coaches out there yet another tool to keep in your toolbox that can help your clients in profound ways.

He teaches some lessons about defining avatar clients, the power of the beginner’s mindset, how to help people who are like you (or like you were), what it’s like starting a franchise, and the difference between a coach and a trainer. We love learning from absolute heroes in the wellness space and we hope you enjoy this chat with Bryce Henson.

15 Mar 2023Creating a Healthy Intestinal Microbiome with Dr. William Davis01:14:05
Dr. William Davis is a guest we've had on the show many times before. This time we invited Dr. Davis back to explain why he feels that Health Coaches are the perfect healthcare practitioners to help unwell humans get to the root cause of their health issues. As he sees it, it is in large part by focusing on relatively simple diet and lifestyle changes that affect the incredibly diverse and important human intestinal microbiome.

In this episode, Dr. Davis shares with us why he (a cardiologist) moved away from surgery for heart issues and focused instead on lifestyle. He also dives deep into how to get the cardiac help you need, the new and unconventional approaches to heart disease prevention, and how the intestinal microbiome is tied to so many health outcomes. Erin and Laura also ask Dr. Davis a handful of the questions you, the listener, had about the intestinal microbiome.

To you, health coaches out there: do yourself a favor and get a copy of Dr. Davis's book Super Gut: A Four-Week Plan to Reprogram Your Microbiome, Restore Health, and Lose Weight and be sure to check out PrimalHealthCoach.com to enroll in our new specialty certification course, the Human Intestinal Microbiome in Health and Disease. Dr. Davis wrote this program exclusively for us to help arm you health coaches with the knowledge you need to help millions and millions of people.

There's a ton to learn from this episode, and honestly, Erin and Laura really just scratched the surface with Dr. Davis. You and your bacteria are going to love it and learn a gut full.
05 Apr 2023Be Brave Enough to Specialize with Dallas Travers00:51:51

Dallas Travers is a business coach who helps health coaches identify their niche. She can help you figure out the unique solution you can bring to the health coaching world, and then eventually scale. She focuses on using what she calls the Ripple Effect System to find more clients, build a big list, and launch a course without compromising your values.

Her business mentorship for health coaches is called The Hive. It offers to hold you accountable to all those unsexy and simple habits you need to have in place for a legit coaching business.

During the conversation, Dallas teaches us a lot. Erin and Laura had a lot of fun covering topics such as doubling down on a niche, why people hire a specific coach, and - closely related - what the superpower of the health coach really is.

Dallas also explains how using a low-price / high-volume product can really work, how to scale your business (and what that word really means), how the ripple effect system works and how long it takes.

Dallas has a very positive and real energy that we are sure you will enjoy.

17 May 2023Understanding Functional Therapeutic Diets with Martha Tettenborn01:04:35

In this episode, we’re thrilled to have registered dietician and certified health coach Martha Tettenborn. Martha opted into a health coaching certification after three decades as a dietician because she felt she could make more meaningful changes in the health of her clients as a health coach.

Martha’s private health coach practice, The Cancer Doula, promotes a low-carb, whole-foods-based approach to disease prevention and cancer symptom management. She has been a featured speaker at the Low Carb Long Weekend Summit and on numerous podcasts. Martha also instructs courses for the Nutrition Network and Udemy on the ketogenic approach to cancer treatment.

Martha authored the latest specialty course for Primal Health Coach Institute, our Functional Therapeutic Diet Specialty certification. So, in this conversation, Martha, Erin and Laura talk through several functional nutritional methodologies and explain how health coaches can use them.

Martha also shares how she used keto and fasting during her cancer treatment, why she moved from being an RD to a Health Coach (to make more impact), and why small changes are important with her elderly clients. She also tells us about the work and learning she did to help create this certification - including eliminating some of the not so well supported diets.

If you are a fan of using diet as a tool to create better health, this is the episode for you.

26 Apr 2023The Value of Real-World Education with Oliver Wood01:04:56

Oliver (Olly) Wood got started in the business world after seven years as an independent personal trainer. And as he started online, he rapidly built a company up to over 15 staff members, helping thousands of clients upgrade their bodies, energy and productivity. Using a four-step system - which he shares with us - his ability to take complicated topics and simplify them down into actionable steps (which you can integrate into your busy lifestyle) is what makes him a world-class coach.

Olly coaches busy professionals over 40 to upgrade their gut health to transform their bodies and energy. By stepping back and realizing this game isn’t simply just about doing more and working harder, he removes the restrictions of dieting and coaches them through a proven framework. This framework allows his clients to feel stronger, more energetic and more capable.

During the conversation, Olly shares with us how he approaches clients who are new to exercise vs clients who have been exercising for years. He also gets into how to make “the coach’s bias unperceivable,” as Erin puts it. He also gets deep into how to motivate clients beyond just focusing on their fitness outcome which involves establishing goals at the very beginning.

Olly is a health expert with a deep background in business and health. Along with a deep background in gut health, biomechanics, leadership, mindfulness, and nutrition. We have a lot to learn from Olly.

22 Mar 2023Tools to Maximize Your Impact with Clark Lagemann00:53:55

Clark Lagemann is an entrepreneur, executive, and three-time Ironman who is changing lives by fixing the biggest problems in healthcare. He is the leader at the helm of Avidon Health, an all-in-one health coaching technology platform that automates personalized health and wellbeing experiences to create behavior change at scale.

Avidon Health provides an innovative behavior change solution that uses human-centered and data-driven cognitive training methods to create sustainable healthy habits and produce outcomes for real people. We all love to learn about the technology and platforms that already exist and have been iterated and optimized to meet the demand of the rapidly growing health coaching industry. The Avidon Health platform has hundreds of existing health programs and templates that users can leverage or use to create your own fully branded program on top of Avataan’s platform.

During this episode, Clark digs into how the healthcare industry is changing (for the better), explains how “pay for performance” works, and how technology can help make coaches’ and clients’ lives better. They also cover how coaches can overcomplicate their lives (and the lives of their clients) with all the tools they think they need.

Erin and Laura talk to a lot of health coaching platforms with whom they have no financial or professional affiliation - and this one is particularly wowed. And just for listening to this episode, you can access their coaching automation solution (for a limited time) by going to https://go.avidonhealth.com/engagement-rx-podcast-hcr

05 Jul 2023Find Your Entrepreneurial Archetype with Christina Frei00:56:49

If you take nothing else away from this episode with our guest Christina Frei, remember the generosity practice that asks the question “Pretend that you have all the resources you could ever need and want - what would you want to give through some fascinating research?” Such a fun question.

Christina believes that when you contemplate what can happen in a real human connection, then your marketing sparkles with possibilities. This matters particularly for service-based professionals who need to market their humanity AND their expertise.  Sounds familiar doesn’t it, health coaches?

Christina talks about how we are all going through a transition of letting go of martyrdom and moving into a place of service. This is particularly important when you are struggling with pricing your services. Christina also teaches us ways to decide what a client really needs not what they think they want,  and what we can gain from doing some type of “business journalling.”

Most interestingly, Christina uncovered five entrepreneurial archetypes: nurturers, adventure guides, door openers, steady presences, and celebrators. Each of these types has its way of changing lives and getting clients.  So, if you are ready to learn what type you are (and which type Laura and Erin are), dig into this episode.

19 Dec 2022Using Data to Guess Less & Help More with Risa Groux01:00:45

Our guest in this episode is Risa Groux. Risa is a functional nutritionist and certified autoimmune coach who has been in the health coaching industry forever! Risa serves her clients with the firm belief that optimal health comes from looking at root causes -- typically systemic inflammation and gut health. She utilizes functional nutrition guidelines and comprehensive testing such as blood and stool to determine the road map of root issues.

So, this episode is for lab value lovers and those who love to geek out on data. Risa has seen it all and has a lot of coaching wisdom to share. So listen in to learn from a seasoned pro.

In our conversation with Risa, we get into topics like rejecting a diagnosis to get to a deeper reason, how Risa orders and uses blood tests for her clients, and she shares her journey of how she got to where she is today. We also dig into why you should know what your body is doing at all times, why Risa wrote her book, which toxins we should be looking out for, and how she structures her client meetings.

01 Mar 2023An Operating System for Behavior Change with Marina Borukhovich00:53:02

Marina Borukhovich is the CEO of YourCoach.Health which is a practice management software solution for health, fitness and nutrition coaches. This is a unique piece of software that helps you expand the reach of your programming. They call it the only operating system for behavior change which is powered by health coaches. It is so refreshing to hear from someone who is putting coaches first.

Marina started her career as a developer at Lockheed Martin, followed by several entrepreneurial ventures. After moving to Amsterdam, being diagnosed with cancer and battling the disease, her passion turned to helping other women feel in control and beautiful through by starting the Future of Health Foundation.

During the conversation with Marina, Erin and Laura ask her about her cancer treatment, how it could be more targeted for her, specifically. 01 Feb 2023Don’t Make Starting a Big Deal with Jackie Fletcher01:08:03
Jackie Fletcher is a health coach getting her business up and off the ground and she decided to double down on content creation by starting her own podcast. She has interviewed quite a few big names in the ketogenic space and is having a lot of fun and success in the podcasting world. The problem is that her podcast has distracted her a bit from focussing on building her health coaching practice. Laura and Erin dig into her plans to build her health coaching business and give her some actionable tips to get things moving.

This is a super helpful episode, where you get to hear two seasoned pros coach an entrepreneur on the best way to get started. In their conversation, they cover topics such as dieting as a child (and why dieting doesn’t work), how Jackie transitioned from blogging to podcasting, and why learning how to do something for yourself is so important. They also get into how Jackie approaches her podcast guests, why tenacity is so important when building momentum, how she created and published her book, and why starting doesn’t have to be a big deal.

The ubiquitous problem of turning listeners/readers into clients is also big focus in this episode. Nurturing followers to become clients is a real skill and this episode gets into how to do it with podcasts, blogs, newsletters and social media. And perhaps more importantly, how to get yourself moving when you are feeling stuck with building your business and creating your products.

In 2018, she hit the road for a 66-event self-care tour which was a massive undertaking that we pressed her to share the logistical details of. Danika has coached thousands of people, spreading wellness and cultivating self-care routines and systems that stick. Chris Mirabile is the founder and CEO of Novos, the first human longevity company to simultaneously address the 12 mechanisms of aging - the biological causes of aging which Chris explains very well - through its innovative patent-pending over-the-counter formulations.

With that in mind, during the conversation around aging, they also covered what aging has historically been, becoming decrepit with failing health, and what it could possibly be like if we took everything we've learned about it and made intentional choices to age differently.

Chris also shares with us the story of why he became so interested in ageing (he had a brain tumour as a kid), he tells us all about the fancy term “antagonistic pleiotropy” (a fancy way of explaining how our genes age), and what ageing really is (it’s not just wrinkles). Chris explains how we would coach someone who is interested in longevity differently from someone who is interested in gaining muscle mass, and how the USA is one of the only countries in the world that has reduced its health span while increasing its lifespan.

This episode is very fun and exciting. Even if you don’t coach anyone who is worried about ageing or longevity (at the moment, anyway) we know you'll enjoy it.

02 Nov 2022Don’t Let Your Branding Sabotage Your Coaching with Naomi Gee01:14:37
Naomi Gee is an expert in clear messaging, copywriting, and visual branding who specifically loves working with health and wellness coaches.

Even if you are new to coaching, you likely know that learning how to tell your story is a clutch part of branding that, frankly, nobody likes doing or feels is worth their time and energy. But it IS worth the time and energy — and it’s gosh darned essential.

In this conversation, Naomi walks us through a website audit (the grunt test) that you can do on your website, right now, to make sure that it’s communicating to your audience in the way that online audiences desire to be communicated with.

To be honest, Naomi gives away a ton of actionable messaging tips and tricks in this episode; ideas and concepts that you can put into play right away. Her tips include the ways your website makes you look like an amateur (even if you’re not), why consistency is key (in language and branding), the power of a good call to action, how to structure an intake form, lead magnets, headlines, when in your business you should start worrying about design, and the 4 design mistakes that health coaches make.

Get ready to take notes and take action on this one, folks.

11 Jan 2023Legal Documents That Build Your Relationships with Cory Sterling00:59:27

Cory Sterling is a lawyer. But not any lawyer. Cory is a cool lawyer. A holistic health nut himself, Cory left the shiny and very corporate white-collar world of law to help health professionals set up their businesses in a way that keeps them protected.

Your number one protection is going to be watching your language and staying within your scope of practice but a very close second on the list is to have your terms and conditions, waiver, privacy policy, and client agreement all buttoned up (from a legal perspective). Good news - Cory walks us through this in a way that (believe it or not) is kind of fun!

Cory’s business, Conscious Counsel, provides legal counsel for creative, ambitious and heart-leading business owners who build communities and make the world a better and healthier place.

During our conversation, we get into topics such as the biggest problems coaches have getting started with the legal aspects of the business, how to navigate the law when there is no definition for health coaching, where the biggest issues with the law originate, and what Cory calls the Screenshot Defence. We also dig into how often coaches really get sued, what is and is not in the scope of practice, the legal aspect of supplements and providing diagnostics. And we cover a whole lot more in this fun conversation about the law.

23 Nov 2022Find Good Clients & Deliver Amazing Results with Yuri Elkaim01:08:58
Today’s guest is Yuri Elkaim a business coach for health professionals who want to scale their coaching business. Yuri says that his superpower is being able to simplify the complex world of health and reduce your confusion with clear, actionable, and science-backed advice that cuts through the nonsense.

Yuri believes that new health coaches and entrepreneurs should do three things in order: create an impactful product that gets results, use paid advertising to get clients in the door and get results for them, and then ride the wave of all your organic traffic flow.

Building your business from scratch with organic (aka accidental) marketing efforts can work but it takes ages. Paid traffic gets you found more quickly than organic.

Our conversation with Yuri covers topics like how you get your first clients, how social media really works, how to go from a side hustle to a business, what products deserve paid ads for, and how webinars filter out the uncommitted clients. Yuri also shares with us how to value commitment over conversion, when to become a social media influencer, how to price your products and services, why you should learn to do your own ads, and then some real specifics on how to actually deliver your products. Plus, as a bonus, he teaches the four things you need to do to reach a million dollars so stick around right to the end!

12 Apr 2023Being Intentional and Authentic with Sarah Hagstrom01:01:07

Sarah Hagstrom is the founder and CEO of the Coach and Grow Co (a name we love) which is a business that helps health coaches grow their businesses online. Sarah came to the business coaching world after having her own incredible success as a health coach.

Sarah’s goal is to empower health coaches to embrace their passion, show up for themselves and celebrate their success. She has been through the process of launching a health coaching business and can leverage that expertise to help increase your success. Her aim is to provide all of her clients with an authentic, refreshing and engaging experience that doesn’t really feel like work.

One of the best ways for new and aspiring coaches to learn the business side of things is to learn it from someone who put in the arduous reps to achieve success for themselves. Sarah takes us through her journey, what she learned, and what she teaches now.

During the conversation, Sarah shares how important the “know like and trust” factor is, how to be intentional about who you show up as, and how she built her business versus what she recommends now (hint: it’s not about hustle). You are going to love it when Sarah tells us that you only need five hours a week for coaching and shares her framework to make that possible.

Sarah, Erin and Laura also do a deep dive into how “not being good at” social media is not a good excuse. The truth is that you can learn to be good at exactly how you want to do it. Keep it simple, clear and most of all authentic.

We here at Health Coach Radio cannot get enough of hearing from health coaches who have had massive success and are now helping other health coaches achieve the same. We hope you feel the same and enjoy this episode.

17 Jul 2024Legal Documents That Build Your Relationships With Cory Sterling00:58:20

Good news – Cory walks us through this in a way that (believe it or not) is kind of fun!

28 Nov 2022Health Coaching in a Medical Practice with Dr. Judith Boyce01:14:30

In this special episode of Health Coach Radio (with a live-online audience), our guest is Dr. Judith Boyce. Judith became a health coach after she spent a career as a doctor - after she spent a career as a nurse. This is because she saw health coaching as the way forward for doctors, nurses and the medical system in general.

Dr. Judith has developed the Health Coaching in Medical Practice certification course which educates and trains coaches to go forth and conquer in the medical system. If that is the path you see yourself taking, listen closely to this episode and learn.

In our conversation with Dr. Boyce, we dig into topics such as how Judith got fed up with how medicine was being practiced, how the PHCI program applies to other countries (other than the USA), and why Dr. Boyce is the perfect person to learn from.

We also dig into what type of person would be a good fit for this line of learning and coaching, what types of certifications employers are looking for, what versions of health coaches exist right now, and why doctors need health coaches’ help. Plus Dr. Judith gives concrete advice about how to get your foot in the door and work with, not against, the system to benefit both the client and the doctor.

03 May 2023The Body is a System (not Isolated Parts) with Phil Wagner, M.D.00:54:20

This is a super cool episode with Phil Wagner, a Biomechanics & Digital Health Expert and the Founder & CEO of Sparta Science.

The Sparta Movement Health Platform can analyze broken biomechanical chains in the human body just by analyzing a foot strike, jump, or balance. Then the app designs a workout program based on the feedback from the measurement device. Are you kidding me? How cool is that?

Impaired movement impacts more people than any other condition, yet most actionable insights lag behind other health barometers. Phil believes that movement health is the ability to move freely without pain, limitations, or uncontrolled movement. The definition is simple to understand. The complex systems that make us move are harder to fathom. So Phil is using software and data to create awareness.

This episode covers a wide range of topics, not just injuries (but that is covered as well). Phil shares his perspective on “no pain, no gain” and how we should be focussed on moving better and that we need to decouple the “suffering” from the outcome. Phil also does a great job of explaining what the muscular-skeletal system is and why it is important to understand.

If you're a movement, fitness, physiology, kinesiology, or biomechanics geek, you will love this fun and nerdy conversation about how you interact with the ground with Dr. Phil Wagner.

22 Feb 2023Recovering Health Through Diet with Unique Hammond00:57:29
Unique Hammond is a Holistic Nutrition Practitioner, an Integrative Health Coach, Bean Protocol Specialist, and the Author of Your Tastebuds are A**holes. Her approach to health coaching came after years of feeling unwell. She eventually healed herself using food and respecting her body.

After years and years of struggle with Crohn’s and other health issues, Unique came across the Bean Protocol. With nothing else to lose, she gave it a try - with astounding results. The soluble fibre in beans, it turns out, can do things that some people might call magical.

In this episode, Erin and Laura talk beans with the bean queen herself. They also dive into topics such as how it took a drastic medical diagnosis to encourage Unique to “go home,” and how living out of touch with her body actually helped her develop her coaching business. They also cover how a food (beans) which are considered inflammatory can help to heal your body, how to properly prepare beans, and how fibre has been unfairly demonized in the past.

Unique also explains how she went from coaching clients (for free) on evenings and weekends - because she loved it and wanted to help - to running a thriving coaching business. One of her biggest barriers was leaving the successful career that she had already built, which is a story both Erin and Laura (and maybe you too) identify with.
30 Aug 2023Empowering Health Coaches to Thrive with Michelle Leotta01:02:35

Our guest today is Michelle Leotta, a longtime friend and colleague and a business coach who supports practicing and aspiring health coaches through her enormous Facebook community, the Health Coach Power community, her podcast, the Health Coach Power podcast, and her coach business training platform, Healthy Profit University.

Michelle's expertise and experience working with health coaches make her an invaluable resource for understanding the struggles and successes of this field. Because Michelle is in contact always with so many health coaches across so many platforms, she sees every day what struggles and successes folks are having and how that seems to evolve over time.

During this episode, Michelle shares her journey from advertising to becoming a certified health coach and mentoring others. She also discusses common challenges for health coaches and the importance of action and revenue-focused activities. She emphasizes the value of diversifying your marketing beyond social media and also shares practical advice for starting and growing a health coaching business.

This is a very frank conversation about what gets coaches stuck and how they can unstick themselves. We think you will enjoy this episode, with Michelle Leotta.

You'll put a lot of what Monica shares into practice with your clients - right away.

Monica gives some great examples of how we can make our coaching more effective and less complex.

16 Nov 2022Crafting the Irresistible Offer with George Liu01:05:17

Have you been spinning your wheels with social media marketing? Well, in this episode, we talk to online marketing expert George Liu. George teaches fitness and wellness businesses how to leverage paid advertising in their marketing efforts. It all begins with crafting an irresistible offer and then paying to put it in front of the necessary (and correct) eyeballs.   If you have been curious about dipping your toe into paid ads, you are going to love this episode.

During the episode, we get into topics such as how his childhood affected his life and fitness choices, how emotion drives people to buy, the role attention span plays in your ads, who to target and who is not in your market. We also dig into how marketing isn’t a soapbox for your agenda, how to pay (and how much to pay) to get in front of a thousand eyeballs, do images or videos work better, what affects your conversion rate, how to know how much to spend on ads, and also how to construct copy for an ad.  Most importantly, George explains what the heck an irresistible offer is.

This may seem like tricky stuff and perhaps over your head - but stay focussed and you will learn some really valuable online marketing fundamentals and strategies.

03 Jan 2024Balancing Workload & Wellness - Q&A with Erin Power00:43:56
This week, we've got another health coaching Q&A episode for you. We’ve taken listener questions and riffed on them so you can learn and we can grow.

In this episode, Erin tackles burnout in health coaching and provides tips on finding jobs. She also gives strategies that include optimizing sessions and group coaching. These are some valuable insights for health coaches seeking balance and opportunities.

More specifically, Erin has chosen two related questions to address:

First is a question from Eric. He explains that his business has grown to the point where he is feeling burnt out. He had a busy month full of discovery calls, onboarding sessions, and existing client calls, which made him feel like he was on Zoom the entire month. Eric asks for advice on how to regain some of his time, as he is unsure if he can continue at this pace.

Next is a question from Rebecca about being naturally entrepreneurial. Erin reassures listeners that even if they're not naturally inclined towards entrepreneurship, there are still plenty of health coaching jobs available, both in-person and remote.

Erin then moves on to a teaching moment where she shares a framework for coaching conversations that includes goal setting and accountability. She explains that every coaching session should have a goal and that an accountability plan should be built with the client's input. She shares different ways to ask clients about accountability, including asking for support, discussing strategies, setting checkpoints, and tracking progress.

Get ready to learn a lot about trademark law during this conversation with Maria Spear Ollis, a Nashville-based lawyer bringing peace of mind to coaches and thought leaders.

If you've ever wondered how content can be protected during this current climate of content sharing, this is the episode for you. You don't have to work yourself up into a lather worrying about copywriting your material because we know that as health entrepreneurs, you already have enough on your plate, but it's always good to seek to understand how it works.

In this conversation, Maria shares with us how having a registered copyright applies to our work as coaches, how to choose which content to protect, and what type of content is protectable. She also covers actionable topics such as how to find out if your content has been stolen, what coaches should have in place from the beginning, what a contract is for,   and how to use the TM and R symbols.

Maria Spear Ollis brings some real clarity to the difference between liability waivers and contract documents. And Laura, Erin and Maria do a deep dive into when you need a disclaimer, for whom, and why they can be very important. And if you have been afraid to look into liability insurance, LLCs or partnerships, Maria has some specific advice on that.

So, see what you take away from this pretty cool and interesting conversation about all the (maybe not so) intimidating legal stuff.

03 Jul 2024Find Good Clients & Deliver Amazing Results With Yuri Elkaim01:07:57
Yuri Elkaim is a business coach for health professionals who want to scale their coaching business. Yuri says that his superpower is being able to simplify the complex world of health and reduce your confusion with clear, actionable, and science-backed advice that cuts through the nonsense.

Yuri believes that new health coaches and entrepreneurs should do three things:
- Create an impactful product that gets results.
- Use paid advertising to get clients in the door and get results for them.
- Ride the wave of all your organic traffic flow.

Building your business from scratch with organic (aka accidental) marketing efforts can work but it takes ages. Paid traffic gets you found more quickly than organic.

This conversation with Yuri covers topics like how to get your first clients, how social media really works, how to go from a side hustle to a business, what products deserve paid ads, and how webinars filter out the uncommitted clients.

19 Jul 2023How to Iterate and Reiterate with Chris Wilson01:02:42
Chris Wilson is the VP of content and the head strength coach at Critical Bench, possibly one of the first and most tenured online fitness video repositories which has been going strong since 1999. It is wild (especially for us oldtimers) to consider that online fitness content's been around for a quarter of a century and Critical Bench is a great example of playing the long game in this industry, which is a topic Erin and Lara dig into.

At the end of this episode, Chris get’s into a really remarkable idea about functional aging so make sure to listen all the way through! They also cover how the fitness industry has changed in the last 30 years. Chris walks us through how they iterated not just their sales pages and marketing but their entire programs. One of the most important points of this conversation is how long and how many iterations (or repackaging and rethinking) it takes to create a successful business or product.

We are certain you are going to enjoy this conversation with an online fitness veteran, Chris Wilson.

01 May 2024How to “Show Up Anyways” with Karin Rozell01:18:57
Karin Rozell is a business coach for health and wellness coaches. You might know Karin as the business coach who teaches her clients the art of building their own ‘Happy Little Practice‘ rather than focusing on the idea of scaling their business to 7 figures and beyond.

In this episode, she revisits the idea of a ‘Happy Little Practice’ in the context of a world that has changed drastically since the last time she was on the podcast—a world where many health, fitness, and nutrition coaches are flocking to the online space because the feasibility of an in-person practice has become more difficult.

While this opportunity is exciting, it can also be daunting, and this episode is a pep-talk for that. Karin, along with Erin and Laura, discuss the idea of hashing out your contingency plan, doubling down on what you can control, adopting the idea of a ‘Golden Hour,’ setting short-term goals, and acting now (because there is no reason not to).
