16 May 2023 | The Story of Delphini: Voldemort's Daughter - Harry Potter Explained | 00:09:19
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be discussing the background of Voldemort’s (& Bellatrix's) DAUGHTER- that’s right you heard me, DAUGHTER- Delphini. Now, if you’ve only read the original books / seen the original films, then you’re probably completely lost right now. BUT, if you’re up to speed on the The Cursed Child- Rowling’s Harry Potter sequel that follows the children of our favourite protagonists, then you might be a little more privy with regards to Voldemort’s unlikely offspring. The most interesting aspect of all of this, however, is that she was purportedly conceived DURING the events of the original books. The Harry Potter universe is rich with an ever-expanding list of complex characters and intricate storylines, with each new addition to canon adding new layers to the already vast and fascinating world created by J.K. Rowling. One such addition is Delphini, the daughter of the Dark Lord Voldemort AND..drum roll please, the infamous Bellatrix Lestrange. Delphini's existence was revealed in the play "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," and her character has been a source of both fascination and controversy among fans of the series. One of the main points of contention for fans is that the Cursed Child simply wasn’t well done, and it’s popularity has reflected that. It’s marketed as the eighth story- a continuation 19 years POST Deathly Hallows which follows the children of the characters that we grew up with. Main characters include Harry Potter- who is now head of the department of magical law enforcement at the ministry of magic, his younger son, Albus Potter, who’s just about to embark on his own journey at Hogwarts, Scorpius Malfoy, the son of Draco Malfoy, and of course Delphini. But, rather than being made in to a film adaptation, the Cursed Child was made in to a two part play - rather than a feature film. The play primarily comes under scrutiny from Harry Potter fans because of its disregard for the traditional Harry Potter canon. Though Rowling has affirmed that the play should be accepted as part of canon- most fans simply won’t put up with this. This is for a couple of reasons, first of all-the storyline truly upsets our perceptions of the traditional Harry Potter universe. The notion that Voldemort could have a child when he was born entirely devoid of certain emotions, is just one example of something The Cursed Child did that didn’t sit well with fans. The next big issue for most fans is that Rowling didn’t write the play all on her own- and because other people had influence on how the play and story would turn out, it seems to be the general consensus that it can’t truly be canon. On the front cover, it very clearly reads: Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling John Tiffany & Jack Thorne But, just for a moment- let’s entertain the version of ‘canon’ introduced by the Cursed Child- and the absurd notion that Voldemort- devoid of emotion and social graces, could POSSIBLY conceive a child with his right-hand-woman and resident wizarding world LUNATIC- Bellatrix Lestrange. In this video we’ll delve deeper into the background and motivations of Delphini, exploring her origins, her actions, and what her character adds to the Harry Potter universe.

11 Jun 2023 | 10 Things in Harry Potter Fans Can't Agree On - Harry Potter Explained | 00:08:30
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing ten of the most controversial opinions about the Harry Potter series. These, of course, are opinions in which fans have long since battled over since the release of the novels, throughout the making of the films, and now more than ten years later. And since I love a good debate, let’s get to it…

06 May 2023 | The Twisted Origins of Barty Crouch Jr (Cut from the Movies) - Harry Potter Explained | 00:09:08
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we’ll be looking into the early life of Barty Crouch Junior—with a particular focus on how he became so terribly EVIL. That is, what happened to him during his childhood and adolescence that may have contributed to the incredibly dark wizard he turned out to be? In looking further into his life, it seems that his capacity for doing terrible things came from a combination of innate evilness and mental instability...here’s what I learned about the character who's story was never told in the movies. The second of his name, Barty was officially born Bartemius Crouch Junior sometime during the year of 1962 to a Bartemius Crouch Senior and a frail, wispy-looking witch known only as Mrs. Crouch. Growing up, Barty Junior was described as a pale boy with straw-coloured hair and freckles. The Crouches came from a long line of pureblooded witches and wizards, with Barty Senior holding a prominent position in the British Ministry of Magic even back in the 1960s. As it were, Mr. Crouch was extremely focused on hunting down dark wizards and held great ambitions of one day becoming Minister for Magic—so much so that he rarely had time for his son. With this information, it’s easy to assume that Barty Senior spent much of his time at the Ministry, and very little of it at home with his family.

23 Jun 2023 | The Ancient Magic Behind Harry Potter: 10 Real-Life Egyptian Spells | 00:15:21
Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. Today I’ve got something..a little bit different for you. Rather than delve in to the spells and curses from the Harry Potter universe that most of us already know so well, I thought I’d cross the barrier in to a whole other world of magic- magic that’s been right in front of us for thousands of years. This video marks the first in a series where I’ll be highlighting magic from the REAL world- taking a closer look at spells, curses and enchantments from civilizations all around the globe. Starting today, join me as we embark on a captivating journey to the land of the Nile, where the ancient Egyptian civilization flourished with its enigmatic and mystical practices. Here, we’ll dive in to the fascinating world of ancient Egyptian magic, exploring the spells, curses, and rituals that played an integral role in the lives of these remarkable people. From the grand pyramids to the mysterious Sphinx, the ancient Egyptians were masters of harnessing the powers of the universe, intertwining their daily lives with the mystical forces that surrounded them. Through the use of sacred texts, intricate rituals, and powerful incantations, they sought to communicate with the gods, protect their people, and ensure their passage into the afterlife. Without further ado, let us embark on this enthralling expedition into the magical realm of ancient Egypt and uncover the mysteries that have captivated the world for millennia. I also happen to have quite an intriguing (and relatively unknown) piece of information about ancient Egyptian civilization within the Harry Potter universe- so keep an eye out for that as well.

30 Jul 2024 | Hagrid is Secretly RICH - Harry Potter Theory | 00:12:13
When we think of WEALTHY individuals from the Harry Potter story there are a few people and/or wizarding families that come to mind. First and foremost: The Malfoys- a wealthy, pureblood wizarding family known for their influence in the wizarding world and their affiliation with dark magic. The Malfoys built their immense wealth in 1066 when their distant ancestor, Armand Malfoy, arrived in England with William the Conqueror. Next up, we’ve got the Lestranges—another wealthy pureblood family whose immense generational wealth only doubled upon intermarriage with another pureblood family, the Blacks. “The old goblin obeyed, pressing his palm to the wood, and the door of the vault melted away to reveal a cave-like opening crammed from floor to ceiling with golden coins and goblets, silver armour, skins of strange creatures, and a skull still wearing it's crown.” And finally we’ve got the Potters. Harry Potter’s wealth in the Harry Potter story is certainly no secret- and we’re exposed to it as early as the Philosopher’s Stone- when we’re first introduced to vault 687 at Gringotts. Harry has piles and piles of gold- and his immense wealth is mentioned time and time again throughout the Harry Potter story. As it turns out, the Potter family fortune started with the founding Patriarch of the family, Linfred of Stinchcombe, a revolutionary potioner that began to amass riches in the Potter name. Following him in the family business was Fleamont Potter, Harry’s grandfather, who had all sorts of success of his own. And it seems like these few wizarding families, who touted generational wealth that had been amassed by their ancestors before them, are the only examples of ‘rich’ wizarding families in the Harry Potter story. But what if I told you that there was a man out there FAR wealthier than all of these families COMBINED…AND that he lived in a run-down old shack on the Hogwarts grounds. Enter: Rubeus Hagrid.

31 Mar 2023 | The Muggle Vs Wizard WARS - Harry Potter History Explained | 00:11:27
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we’re going to be taking a look at muggle/wizard affairs throughout history. When we crack open our history books, and take a look at famous events and conflicts between muggles and the wizarding world, you might be surprised at what you find. Before the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, which was established in the year 1692, wizards weren’t exactly unknown. Although, even at that time, many considered the concept of witches and wizards outlandish… There were plenty of people who had firsthand experience with members of the wizarding world. In fact, in different corners of the world, at varying times, entire countries were swept into anti-magic crazes that threatened to destroy almost every magic-using man, woman, and child in their community. Today, we’re going to take a look at some of these events, and their long-lasting legacy, as we discuss the history of muggle and wizard affairs.

07 Jul 2024 | The Most EVIL Hufflepuff Wizard Nobody Talks About - Harry Potter Explained | 00:13:44
In the Philosopher’s Stone, Hagrid famously remarked that “There's not a single witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin.”. But..There are a few big issues with this statement. First of all, it’s factually incorrect. While the vast majority of the dark witches and wizards in the wizarding world were indeed at one time Slytherin students, it certainly wasn’t all of them. Second of all, many have interpreted Hagrid’s statement to mean: ‘all Slytherins will become evil’, when what Hagrid really meant was that ‘all bad witches and wizards ORIGINATED from Slytherin. Which is..Also not true. I will admit that when you think about all of the evil in the Wizarding World, it is certainly hard to distance your mind from the green and silver house. However, in reality there are numerous other examples of BAD wizards that came from well...ALL of the other houses. Think about it. We had Pettigrew from Gryffindor. We had Quirrell from Ravenclaw. And from Hufflepuff we had….The subject of today’s video! A dark wizard SO EVIL that many SLYTHERIN wizards PALE in comparison. Join me today as we peel back the layers of the most nefarious individual to arise from the black & yellow house.

10 Aug 2024 | What REALLY Happens to Your Soul after a Dementor's Kiss? - Dark Harry Potter Theory | 00:10:15
The consequences of tampering with the soul are not limited to the dark magic of Horcruxes. The wizarding world is fraught with other sinister forces that prey upon the soul, leading to outcomes just as terrifying. Among these, Dementors stand out as one of the most feared creatures, embodying the very essence of despair and hopelessness. Unlike Horcruxes, which represent the deliberate, self-inflicted damage to one's own soul, Dementors attack the soul from the outside, draining you of the very life force that makes you who you are. And this got me thinking- what happens to your soul AFTERWARDS? Do you BECOME a part of that Dementor? Or are you banished to a shadowy abyss with other victims of Dementors? Today we’re going to be discussing that, and more, as we tackle the topic of SOULS (and what happens to them).

25 Mar 2023 | Dark Histories of the Hogwarts Portraits (Part 1) - Harry Potter Explained | 00:09:34
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we're discussing the portraits hanging within the hallowed halls of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. While I suppose the EXACT number of portraits lining the walls of this famous building is somewhat debatable—many subjects have more than one portrait and who knows what secret portraits may hang in closets long forgotten—there are around 60 portrait subjects that we DO know about. Over the course of a few videos, we’ll cover each and every one of them, diving into who the witch or wizard was, why they have a portrait hanging up in Hogwarts, and anything else of note. Today, we’ll kick things off alphabetically, which brings us to the portrait of a wizard who needs no introduction…

And it was on this trip that Tom discovered the infamous ‘cave’ - a location that would play a large role in his future as the Dark Lord ‘Voldemort’. You see, not only was the Cave a place of Torment for Tom’s fellow classmates, it was also the place that housed one of his Horcruxes- Salazar Slytherin’s locket.

Welcome Harry Potter Theory. Today I've compiled 10 fan theories that…Actually make quite a lot of sense. And given the colossal numbers of Harry Potter Theories out there, it only seems only fitting that ONCE in a while we (I’m including myself here) hit the nail on the head. During my time on this channel I’ve covered some of the most preposterous theories out there..Like Cho Chang marrying Dudley Dursley and Dumbledore being a time travelling Ron Weasley. And so these theories, which come across as very REASONABLE and RATIONAL- are a bit of a breath of fresh air. I can’t take credit for these theories, but I will be summarizing and dissecting them. Anyway, let’s dive in.

16 Feb 2023 | Hogwarts Legacy MULTIPLAYER Is on the Way! | 00:02:39
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. I've got exciting news regarding the newly released (and exceedingly popular) Harry Potter game Hogwarts Legacy. Since the game came out players all over the world have been experiencing the wizarding world for themselves- embarking on their own adventures and paving the way for their own destiny. The game’s amazing, but if I had just one criticism of Hogwarts Legacy, or rather, one thing I’d like to see ADDED- it’s multiplayer functionality. Many single player games throughout history have been extremely successful, so it’s not as though this will make or break the game, HOWEVER- fortunately for us, it looks like less than a week after the game’s release a MULTIPLAYER mod has already begun development.

09 May 2023 | The Forgotten History of Horcruxes and the FIRST Dark Wizard to Create Them - Harry Potter Theory | 00:08:55
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're diving DEEP in to the subject of Horcruxes, and discussing a historical figure who created a Horcrux LONG before Voldemort ever did. And it's NOT who you think. JK Rowling once revealed that, over the course of history, many witches and wizards tried to create a horcrux, in spite of a severe lack of instruction from evil textbooks. "...wizards would have been looking for ways to do exactly what Voldemort did for years. And some of the ways they would have tried would’ve killed them. So, I imagine it- well, they’re huge parallels- splitting the atom would be a very good parallel in our world. . . . I do imagine that other people are going to have tried. I think it would be naive not to think that people have been trying for a long time, and thought they succeeded and hadn’t, or else maimed themselves or killed themselves in the attempt. It’s such a dangerous thing to do." What this quote tells me is that maybe, just maybe, there’s a wizard out there that was able to produce a horcrux before ANYONE else- they just never made it in to the history books. After all, if the idea of producing a horcrux is self-preservation, why would you want to boast about it and bring it to everyone’s attention? I happen to have one very good guess for WHO this wizard might be, the ORIGINAL Horcrux creator, but first, let’s look at the other wizards in Harry Potter canon who are credited as having created Horcruxes AND let’s look at what exactly a Horcrux IS.

08 Nov 2024 | HUGE Update for Hogwarts Legacy 2! (FINALLY!) | 00:08:52
Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. In what seems like just the last couple of years (but in reality has spanned nearly a DECADE), Warner Bros. has faced some challenges when releasing new Harry Potter IP- particularly the "Fantastic Beasts" film series. These high-budget films which dropped in 2016, 2018, and 2022 respectively struggled to find traction at the global box office and didn’t quite hit the mark for most fans. And for these reasons, it’s unlikely that the Fantastic Beasts films will ever continue, stopping 2 films shy of the 5 film projection originally provided. However, Warner Bros. found a bright spot in 2023 with the release of Hogwarts Legacy, which seemed to really strike a chord with Harry Potter fans worldwide. The game topped sales charts as the best-selling game of 2023 across ALL platforms and ALL genres- beating out Call of Duty, Madden, Zelda, Diablo and more. And since the game’s release over 30 MILLION copies have been sold. Encouraged by this success, Warner Bros. Games released Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions in August, remastered the Lego Harry Potter game collection, and granted licenses for several new mobile games. But the biggest bit of news is that a Hogwarts Legacy SEQUEL has apparently become a ‘very big priority’.

02 Oct 2024 | Azkaban Prisoners Are Human Sacrifices - DARK Harry Potter Theory | 00:12:46
On the surface, Azkaban seems like a pretty good idea- mainly due to its effectiveness. It’s on a far-off remote island, it has a fortress designed to keep the most dangerous criminals at bay, there are perpetual storms surrounding the island, AND there’s an army of Dementors working as prison guards. And that’s just the PHYSICAL side of things. Mentally, the prison is an absolute nightmare. The crashing waves and howling winds serve as a natural barrier, isolating the inmates from the world they once terrorized. The Dementors, with their shadowy forms, siphon hope and happiness from every soul they encounter. And those who enter Azkaban often leave something behind—pieces of their sanity, their will to fight, and sometimes even their humanity. And all of this is just about borderline acceptable if we consider that it’s meant to house murderers, dark wizards and those who have committed unspeakable acts against others. But the major issue here is that Azkaban is one of the ONLY Wizarding Prisons in Britain. And what this means is that perpetrators of more MINOR crimes, and in some cases those who have been wrongly convicted, are unjustly sent in to this hell-hole along with the rest of them. It hardly seems appropriate that someone convicted for say, theft, would endure what is essentially the same punishment as someone who has murdered. This raises a whole plethora of questions about wizarding society as a whole, but the one we’re going to start with is: WHY one gigantic horrible prison? Why not a network of smaller, more humane facilities that focus on rehabilitation rather than sheer punishment? Today we’re going to be diving in to all of that, and more, as we discuss the mess that is the wizarding justice system.

08 Feb 2023 | Why Do Wizards Only Use ONE Wand? - Harry Potter Theory | 00:08:15
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re discussing wands. More specifically- we’re going to be discussing wands in the context of their necessity- how come some wizards use a wand while others seemingly don’t have the need for a wand at all? And lastly, and more importantly, why don’t witches and wizards use MULTIPLE wands? There’s source information in the original books which suggests that using multiple wands is plausible- so, why isn’t anyone doing it? Let’s dive in. Now, we know that in the wizarding world it is commonplace for young witches and wizards to visit Ollivander's and receive their first wand. An instrument with which they are able to begin HONING and channeling their magical abilities.

15 Jul 2023 | A New Beginning: What Happened to the Wizarding World AFTER Voldemort's Defeat? | 00:17:06
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be discussing what happened to the Wizarding World AFTER the climactic defeat of Lord Voldemort in the Deathly Hallows. After a period of total chaos, a sudden silence fell over the Hogwarts grounds. The menacing lord of darkness, Voldemort, was finally defeated. Victory brought a fresh morning glimmer, marking an end to the fear and terror that the dark lord had spread across the wizarding world. But even though Voldemort’s reign was short lived, his time in power was more than long enough to spread a veil of darkness over the once-vibrant wizarding world. Lives were lost, institutions crumbled, and the inhabitants of the wizarding world were reminded of what darkness was capable of. And in times like this, the darkest of times, it would be wise for the wizarding population to follow the sage advice of Albus Dumbledore, the man that always reminded us to "turn on the light". Voldemort’s defeat was a glorious occasion for the good guys, but as the light of victory settled a new (and colossal task) dawned on the wizarding world- the reconstruction of a fractured world and the healing of a society bruised by Voldemort's regime. But if the Phoenix has taught us anything, it’s that it is after the fall from the flames that we rise again, stronger than ever. The ashes of defeat had fallen; now, it was time for the magical world to rise. I’ve done a video in the past discussing what happened to each and every character from the series in the post war era *show video on screen*, but today we’re going to be honing in on wizarding society as a whole. What happened to Hogwarts? The Ministry of Magic? Diagon Alley? Without further ado, let’s uncover the rebirth of wizarding society.

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be discussing the enigmatic gate of DEATH that is The VEIL. And when faced with such an enigmatic wizarding structure, it’s hard not to ask questions. What IS the Veil? Who created it? And how does the Veil connect to the wizarding world's understanding of life, death, and the beyond? Join me as we apparate through time and space, diving deep into the mysteries of the Veil and shedding light on its presence within Wizarding History.

13 Dec 2024 | Rowling's Retcons: 8 Major Changes to Harry Potter AFTER the Books Ended - Harry Potter Explained | 00:15:11
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be discussing RETCONS- specifically, all of the RETCONS made by JK Rowling after the Harry Potter series had ended. I should start off by making a clear distinction between what retcon USED to mean and what it means now, because somehow the term has evolved over time into something else altogether. Depending on which version of ‘Retcon’ you subscribe to, you’re going to have very different expectations for this list. The ORIGINAL interpretation of Retcon, which stands for ‘Retroactive Continuity’, referred broadly to adding new information to previously told stories to expand or reinterpret the narrative. A good example of this would be JK Rowling revealing (through extended publications) that Witches and wizards VANISHED THEIR POOP via magic before the Hogwarts plumbing system came into effect. And the more commonly understood modern definition of retcon refers specifically to changes that contradict previously established facts in the narrative, whether intentional or unintentional. The distinction here is that this interpretation places an emphasis on these new facts conflicting with existing canon. A third definition I found online seems to support either: ‘a literary device in which facts in the world of a fictional work that have been established through the narrative itself are adjusted, ignored, supplemented, or contradicted by a subsequently published work that recontextualizes or breaks continuity with the former.’ But for the sake of today’s video, we’re going to separate them, first placing our sights on works that CONTRADICT the source material, then shifting our perspective to more recently introduced content that SUPPLEMENTS the source material (but doesn’t change it). Starting with the former.

07 Jul 2023 | Why Didn't Voldemort Discover Snape's True Loyalty? - Harry Potter Theory | 00:08:57
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we’ll be going for a deep dive into how Lord Voldemort never figured out that Severus Snape was a double agent whose true loyalties lay with Albus Dumbledore and The Order of the Phoenix. As revealed at the very bitter end of the Harry Potter series, Professor Severus Snape was one of the most successful turn cloaks to have ever lived. Becoming a follower of Voldemort—and officially a Death Eater—shortly after leaving Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Severus was a wizard deeply entrenched in the world of Dark Magic from a rather young age. Before he became enamoured with the Dark Lord and his teachings, however, Severus’ first love was that of the Muggle-born witch Lily Evans. And so when Snape learned of a prophecy that inevitably sent Voldemort after the woman he loved, and set into motion a series of events that would result in her death, Severus chose to alter his allegiance and instead work for the very group of witches and wizards set on destroying Voldemort—while pretending to remain a faithful servant to the Dark Lord. But how is it that the wizard many believed to be one of the most POWERFUL to have ever lived never managed to figure out that Snape wasn’t truly on his side? Well, I believe that the answer to this question is actually a bit more complex than one might first think. To which end, I’ve put together a few ideas I’ve had on the subject, starting with…

15 Mar 2023 | How Harry Survived Avada Kedavra in the Forbidden Forest - Harry Potter Explained | 00:11:29
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re discussing Harry’s ‘death’ from Voldemort's Avada Kedavra in the Deathly Hallows. More specifically, we’re going to be diving in and dissecting the nuances of HOW it happened, WHY it happened, and HOW Harry was able to come back to life. To set the scene – we’re in the Forbidden Forest and Harry comes face-to-face with Voldemort once again. However, unlike previous confrontations – from his meeting with a fragmented Voldemort attached to Professor Quirrell, to their duel in the graveyard of Little Hangleton – this time Harry does not intend to defend himself or fight back. He’s come to die. Fans of the book will remember the chapter as the aptly named “The Forest Again” and movie lovers will certainly know this scene as the one right after Harry sees his dead loved ones through the magic of the Resurrection Stone – one of the three fabled Deathly Hallows. Okay, so what happened? Well, it appears that Harry gets hit with Avada Kedavra- THE KILLING CURSE. It’s well reinforced in Harry Potter that ‘Avada Kedavra’- a terrible dark curse that is known to emit a blindingly intense green bolt of light, kills people. In fact, the only function of the spell is to kill. So, how is Harry able to come back from it? Let's get in to it.

28 Oct 2024 | EVERY Mistake in Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Stone (All ERRORS + Plot Holes) | 00:13:06
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. This is part 1 of a video series where I’ll be diving in to the Harry Potter books and taking a look, chapter by chapter, at all of the mistakes that were made. Starting with book 1: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. I’m going to be placing a particular focus on instances in which factual errors were made or canon was somehow contradicted. Trivial errors like typos / grammatical issues will not be focused on this video. I should also mention that I’m not making this video to CRITICIZE the books, but rather, take a look out of my own curiosity. Authors are only human and nearly every book series has mistakes like these made in them. Rowling has even addressed this topic herself: "As obsessive fans will tell you, I do slip up! Several classrooms move floors mysteriously between books and these are the least serious continuity errors! Most of the fansites will point you in the direction of my mistakes. But the essentials remain consistent from book to book because the story has been plotted for a long time and it is clear in my mind." In the interest of time, I’m also only going to briefly summarizing each mistake as there’s quite a lot of ground to cover. Starting…With the COVER of the very first book.

03 Dec 2024 | 7 Things We Learn About Harry Potter AFTER the Books | 00:13:26
Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. Before we get started, let me clarify what we’re diving into today: this video is all about the things we learn about the Harry Potter story after the series ended—little tidbits of info that Rowling shared outside of the books. These are the hidden nuggets of lore you’d only know if you kept up with interviews, Pottermore updates, or extended publications. Things like..Oh I don’t know, the fact that Rowling very seriously considered killing off Ron Weasley. This video is NOT about what happens to the wizarding world or its characters after Voldemort’s defeat. That’s a whole different topic which I’ve covered extensively in the past. If you want to know about THAT kind of thing, check out my other videos. Without further ado, let’s dive in to some of the most fascinating things we’ve learned about the Harry Potter series after it ended!

26 Feb 2024 | Why Didn't the Ministry Use TRUTH SERUM on Sirius Black? - Harry Potter Theory | 00:14:00
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be discussing Veritaserum- an incredibly powerful (and I feel, underutilized) potion that forces individuals to reveal the truth. "It is Veritaserum — a Truth Potion so powerful that three drops would have you spilling your innermost secrets for this entire class to hear. Now, the use of this potion is controlled by very strict Ministry guidelines. But unless you watch your step, you might just find that my hand slips — right over your evening pumpkin juice. And then, Potter... then we'll find out whether you've been in my office or not." Besides maybe Felix Felicis, Polyjuice Potion and Amortentia- I feel as though Veritaserum AKA ‘Truth’ Serum is one of the most powerful potions in the entire Wizarding World. And given this fact, I can’t help but notice that it’s ludicrously underutilized (at least in the series). In fact, the list of times that it’s actually used in the story is exceedingly short. These moments include..
There were of course other times that it was mentioned, like when Dolores Umbridge used a ‘fake potion’ made by Snape on Harry Potter that he only pretended to drink. But on the whole, it’s not even talked about that much, and I feel like it could bring about a whole lot of clarity. ESPECIALLY in the context of convicting criminals. In the Death Eater trials, for example, Igor Karkaroff was pardoned by the Wizengamot after giving up the names of some of his co-conspirators. Why not just feed him Truth Serum? In today’s video we’ll be discussing WHY Veritaserum isn’t more actively used by the Ministry of Magic. We’ll also be discussing use-cases from the story in which Veritaserum could have proven to be extremely useful, potentially saving lives in the process. Let’s dive in.

24 Nov 2024 | The Trace Makes NO SENSE (+Its DARK Secret REVEALED) - Harry Potter Theory | 00:19:09
There are quite a few mistakes and plot holes in the Harry Potter books and films. In fact, there are enough for me to make several compilations of them. However, perhaps one of the most confusing and inconsistent elements of the Wizarding World is undoubtedly the ‘Trace’- a fairly major plot component that is riddled with contradictions. To the Harry Potter casual, these issues with the Trace probably went by relatively unnoticed, but for the die-hards, it was hard to ignore the glaringly obvious ways in which the trace was misrepresented. There are also many components of the trace that are never explained- like how it is actually applied to underage witches and wizards. Today, we’ll be diving deep into the Trace—exploring what it is, how it’s applied to children, and, through examples from the books and films, uncovering why this concept is essentially a total trainwreck. We’ll also be looking at the trace from a more SINISTER perspective via one of my theories. Let’s dive in.

23 Apr 2023 | Everything the Movies MISSED That I Want to See in the HBO Harry Potter Show | 00:09:51
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be discussing some events and characters from the Harry Potter books that were subsequently omitted from the films. The fact that some of these events / characters were never shown on-screen has certainly always been a sore subject for Harry Potter book fans, but today I’ve got some good news. Just recently a new Harry Potter TV Show was announced for HBO- and I suspect that this could be what we have all been waiting for- a chance to finally view some of these unexplored moments, places and characters on-screen. The show is allegedly set to span a decade, and provided that the actors have to AGE to play their older selves, I’d be willing to bet that this ‘decade’ long promise is going to be somewhat accurate. With that said, a decade long TV series exploring the books presents an awful lot of opportunity to uncover and unravel aspects of the story that may have never been brought to the silver-screen, and I’m here for it. Without further ado, here’s 10 pieces of uncharted film territory.

14 Apr 2023 | The Life of Gilderoy Lockhart (+What Happened to Him?) - Harry Potter Explained | 00:15:42
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be discussing the twisted origins of Gilderoy Lockhart - five time winner of Witch Weekly’s Most Charming Smile Award. Specifically, we’re going to be taking a deep dive in to this enigmatic wizards life, peeling back the layers of his formative years and figuring out how and.. WHY he turned out the way he did. We’ll also be looking at what happened to him AFTER his last appearance in the books and films. There’s a lot of information on Lockhart, so I’ve tried to narrow it down to just the most important stuff. Let’s dive in to it. Gilderoy Lockhart was a British half-blood wizard born in the year 1964 to a witch mother and muggle father. He grew up alongside his 2 sisters, but because they turned out to be Squibs, he inevitably became his mother’s favourite (being that he was the only other MAGICAL family member). Lockhart was a clever, good-looking boy, and when he realized quite early on that he was magical it went straight to his head- inflating his already massive ego even further. In 1975, at the age of 11, Lockhart first stepped foot through the doors of Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry to begin his wizarding education. However, Lockhart quickly realized that Hogwarts was not quite what he had expected. Upon stepping foot in the magical castle he was met with sheer disappointment- suddenly coming to the crushing realization that at a school for witches and wizards- he was just another magical young boy. In the muggle world, Gilderoy was exceptional, but here he didn’t stand out, and that’s all he ever longed for.

05 Apr 2023 | How Much GOLD Did Harry Have? (We Calculated It) - Harry Potter Theory | 00:09:42
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re discussing Harry Potter and his immense stacks of gold. However, the focus of today’s video examines Harry’s riches from a bit of a different angle- looking at not JUST how he acquired all of his gold- but also at how much gold he actually had. I’ve done this with the help of an r/harrypotter redditor that I’ll mention later on. To kick things off I’m going to briefly summarize WHY Harry was so rich, then we’ll segue in to the sheer volume of gold that young Mr. Potter actually boasted. ...Let's dive in!

18 Aug 2023 | History of the Slug Club (+All 27 Members) - Harry Potter Explained | 00:18:33
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re discussing professor Horace Slughorn, and his famed ‘Slug Club’- a club which can best be described through the wise words of Albus Dumbledore: “Horace,” said Dumbledore, relieving Harry of the responsibility to say any of this, “likes his comfort. He also likes the company of the famous, the successful, and the powerful. He enjoys the feeling that he influences these people. He has never wanted to occupy the throne himself; he prefers the backseat — more room to spread out, you see. He used to handpick favorites at Hogwarts, sometimes for their ambition or their brains, sometimes for their charm or their talent, and he had an uncanny knack for choosing those who would go on to become outstanding in their various fields.” “Horace formed a kind of club of his favorites with himself at the center, making introductions, forging useful contacts between members, and always reaping some kind of benefit in return, whether a free box of his favorite crystallized pineapple or the chance to recommend the next junior member of the Goblin liaison Office.” Horace Slughorn’s ‘Slug Club’ was an out-of-hours dining and social club made up of his most well-liked and famous students. The club provided its members with unique opportunities, mentorship, and access to influential contacts, opening doors for their future successes. It’s origins date back to when he first began teaching at the school in 1931. You see, Slughorn had a keen eye to identify if someone would go on to achieve greatness in some capacity, and would take great pride in their accomplishments. While we are given some indication as to who is actually in this club in the books and films, we aren’t provided with a complete list. Names are mentioned, and in the film adaptation Slughorn’s ‘wall’ is shown, where he proudly displays the members of his club, but we want to know more!

09 Dec 2023 | 10 Harry Potter MYTHS Fans Get Wrong | 00:14:07
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we're discussing 10 myths about the Harry Potter series. Since the release of the first Harry Potter novel in June of 1997, the wizarding world of Harry and his friends has continued to expand. What started off as a relatively small magical community that only focused on the United Kingdom, grew into a global universe and phenomenon with new and exciting narratives being brought to life in Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa. What was once known as Pottermore—a site where fans could go to learn more about the magical world of Harry Potter—became the Wizarding World and grew to include new franchises like Fantastic Beasts and short stories about things like the founding of North American wizarding school, Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. So, while at one point in time, over 25 years ago, it may have been somewhat easy to keep the magical constructs that made up the wizarding world of Harry Potter straight, it has since become increasingly difficult to truly know EVERYTHING about this magical universe. As a result, sometimes even the most devoted fans get details about Harry Potter…well, WRONG. And with fans’ certainty that they are correct—answering queries on Reddit and other web forums—it’s not surprising that some of these myths about the series have gained lives of their own, and have been circulated around the Internet as fact. Which is why, in today’s video, I’ll be taking you through 10 of the most pervasive myths out there—some of which may even surprise you!

09 Oct 2024 | Ollivander's DARKEST Secret - Harry Potter Theory | 00:12:35
At the time of writing this, Ollivander’s Wand Shop has been supplying the wizarding community with the finest wands money can buy for nearly 24 centuries, having first opened its doors as far back as 382 BC. I know I know, this date DOES seem a little far-fetched, but rest assured that it has been confirmed as canon. And it was during that year that the original ‘Ollivander’, the ancestor of Garrick Ollivander, was thought to have come from a Mediterranean country in Roman times and set up a stall in what would eventually become Diagon Alley. The Ollivander family quickly revolutionized wand making when they publicly forsook the traditional wand-making process, which previously had witches and wizards procure their own wand core. Ollivander believed that this process produced wands that were ‘inferior’ in quality and performance, which led to the family procuring all wand components for future customers. At this point, the Ollivander of the time began his quest to discover the finest wand cores and the wand woods that best complemented them. And from this point onward, the purchaser would no longer select a wand of THEIR choosing- and instead began the tradition of the WAND choosing the wizard. In theory, this is a nice idea which ensures that each witch or wizard is paired with a wand perfect just for them. It also portrays the Ollivander family as genuinely caring for their customers' best interests in the name of passionate wand-making. But I think there’s a lot more to this business model than meets the eye, and I think that I’ve got some compelling evidence to suggest that there are seriously dark undertones to the wand industry. Join me today as we dismantle the single longest-running business in Wizarding History. Let’s dive in

15 Dec 2024 | Why Didn't the Potters DISAPPARATE to Escape Voldemort? - Harry Potter Theory | 00:10:14
On October 31st 1981, Lord Voldemort walked through the doors of the Potter cottage in Godric’s Hollow for the first time. But what should have been a seemingly straightforward mission for a powerful wizard at the height of his power ended up being a catastrophic event for both parties. Harry lost his parents and Voldemort lost his corporeal form- effectively putting an end to the First Wizarding War, and changing the course of Harry’s life forever. But I can’t help but think that MOST of what occurred at the Potter cottage on that fateful night was avoidable altogether. A way that James, Lily and Harry would have been able to escape safely..And it involves Apparition. Today we’re going to be exploring all of this and more as we tackle the question of: WHY DIDN’T THE POTTERS DISAPPARATE to escape Voldemort? Let’s dive in.

28 Apr 2024 | Horcrux Creation's Dark SECRET Made JK Rowling's Editor VOMIT - Harry Potter Theory | 00:12:20
Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. In a Wizarding World full of magic, Horcruxes are without a doubt one of the darkest forms of this magic. These cursed objects, created through an unnamed and forbidden process, are known for their ability to fragment the soul, preserving it beyond death, and granting the creator an impenetrable shield of immortality. However, the creation of these sinister objects comes at an unthinkable cost, leading us to wonder what dark magic and sacrilege went into their making. What unspeakable rituals did Voldemort undertake to achieve his twisted form of immortality? How did the creation of each Horcrux alter his soul, turning him further down the path of darkness? And what mysteries lie buried within the shattered remnants of his fragmented soul? Today we’re going to be exploring all of that, and more, as we uncover the truth behind the horrific dark magic that produces Horcruxes. Horcruxes, said to be one of two things from the Harry Potter books that made JK Rowling’s editor nearly VOMIT, are still very much an enigma to this day. The very first known Horcrux was made in Ancient Greece by a wizard named Herpo the Foul, and thousands of years later, Voldemort became only the second known creator of a Horcrux. Made from magic that is so terrible in nature that even dark wizards are horrified by what it entails, Horcruxes are creations that are unimaginable to the vast majority of the Wizarding World. So, when Voldemort made seven, it was a demonstration of just how incredibly evil he was. When interviewed on the topic, even JK Rowling stumbled her words as to avoid revealing its process directly.

04 Aug 2023 | Why Dumbledore Never Became Minister for Magic (and WHAT IF He Did?) | 00:18:05
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we’re discussing why Professor Albus Dumbledore, arguably the greatest Headmaster Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has ever seen, never assumed a much greater leadership role within the wizarding world as the British Minister for Magic. As far as legendary wizards go in the world of Harry Potter, Professor Albus Dumbledore certainly tops the list—especially when considering the number of legendary witches and wizards who have wielded their power for good and not evil. For starters, he is likely only one of a few wizards in all of history who was essential in the downfall of not one, but TWO dark and powerful wizards, both of whom were leading deadly wizarding conflicts. His first conquest of good over evil came when he defeated the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald on the 2nd of November in 1945. In doing so, Dumbledore not only stopped Grindelwald from continuing to gain power with the intention of subjugating Muggles around the world, he also effectively ended the global wizarding war that had erupted thanks to Grindelwald’s prejudiced views. Then, in the 1990s, Dumbledore was also responsible for identifying the weakness of Voldemort—namely his multiple Horcruxes—which eventually led to Harry Potter’s ability to defeat the Dark Lord. While not many witches or wizards can attest to attaining the same or similar achievements, Dumbledore defeated those dark wizards while also TEACHING, for Albus was an accomplished professor at Hogwarts for years before finally becoming one of the school’s most admired Headmasters. So, when taking all of Albus Dumbledore’s accolades into consideration, as well as his propensity for what is just and right, it seems rather odd that a wizard as powerful and good as Dumbledore, and who could clearly lead an organised establishment, was never the head of the magical governing body of Britain—the Ministry of Magic.

02 Aug 2024 | 7 Major Events AFTER The Harry Potter Story Ended | 00:11:22
To say that the Harry Potter books and films ended a long time ago would be a severe understatement. As of writing this, it’s been a whopping 27 years since the Philosopher’s Stone was first published, and 13 years since the last Harry Potter film hit the silver screen. And while I feel that both mediums sufficiently developed the characters/story, reading the last few pages of the final book left me longing for more. We got so much! Yet…It still feels like we didn’t get enough. Which is why I’ve scanned through extended publications, interviews and more in search of answers. Today we’re going to be exploring 7 things that were revealed about our favourite Harry Potter characters…After the books and films ended.

22 Aug 2024 | Dumbledore was a SLYTHERIN (NOT a Gryffindor) - Harry Potter Theory | 00:16:16
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we’ll be discussing the many reasons why Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, famed Headmaster of Hogwarts and former Gryffindor student, may have been more well-suited to Slytherin House. As fans, soon after Harry Potter received his letter of acceptance and we were first introduced to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, we also learned about the magical institution’s four founding members and how they decided that the student population would always be divided into four houses, which would represent the characteristics and traits most valued by each of those founding members. As the majority of you watching this will already know, the four founding members of Hogwarts School were Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin, with the corresponding houses being named after each of their surnames. And while later instalments of the series eventually focused on students from the houses of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, the beginning of Harry Potter certainly had a lot more emphasis on Gryffindor and Slytherin. What’s more, there was a very obvious dichotomy presented between the two, with all of the protagonist characters—aka the “good guys”—being Gryffindors, and all of the antagonists—or “bad guys”—being Slytherins. From Harry to the compassionate and friendly Weasley family who helped him find Platform 9 and ¾, and the world-famous Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, everyone who was presented as good and heroic in the first few years of Harry’s time at Hogwarts was a current or former Gryffindor student. By contrast, each of the BADDIES that we met during Harry’s first few years were all Slytherins, including the bully Draco Malfoy, the cruel Professor Snape and, of course, the most evil wizard to have ever lived—Lord Voldemort. And who could forget what Hagrid told Harry before he entered his first year at Hogwarts:

06 Oct 2024 | How Do Wizards Communicate with Dementors? - Harry Potter Theory | 00:10:08
I question the Harry Potter books A LOT. But there’s one thing in particular that I’ve always more or less accepted at face value with no regard for HOW it actually unfolds. And that THING is HOW the Ministry (and others) communicates with what are essentially amortal wraithlike spirits that (as far as I know) do NOT possess the ability to speak. I’m of course talking about DEMENTORS. Adding even more mystery to this question is the fact that underneath that hood of theirs the Dementors have a HOLE where their mouth is supposed to be (along with some black holes for eyes). We know that the Ministry of Magic controls them (to some extent), but I suppose you could argue that this is an unspoken arrangement whereby Dementors are allowed to THRIVE at Azkaban Prison in exchange for relative ‘peace’ between the two factions. But as it happens, there are passages from the books which STRONGLY suggest Dementors relayed information to Fudge & The Ministry..In The form of WORDS strung together. Therefore, today I want to tackle the question of..CAN Dementors speak. And equally as important, HOW? Let’s dive in.

18 Oct 2024 | 7 MORE Harry Potter Theories EVERY FAN AGREES WITH (Part 2) | 00:10:08
Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. In my last video I discussed 7 Harry Potter theories that are so inconsequential and likewise plausible that they are hard to deny. Theories with such little evidence against them that, for the most part, we can all agree they likely have a basis in reality. In my last video, it seemed like many of you agreed with my picks, so today we're diving into 7 more of these theories..Pushing the envelope a little further. Let me know down in the comment section what you think. Let’s dive in.

30 Aug 2024 | Can EVERY First-Year Be Sorted Into the SAME Hogwarts House? - Harry Potter Theory | 00:10:09
With Back to Hogwarts Day fast approaching, I started thinking about all of the young witches and wizards that will experience the Wizarding World for the first time. For many of them, it’ll be their first time at platform 9 ¾, first time on the Hogwarts Express, and first time walking through the front doors of Hogwarts school. But one key aspect of this integration process that got me thinking pertains to none other than the Sorting Hat. Shortly after entering the Great Hall, each of these new first year students will be required to place the fabled hat upon their head. And the Hat, which has the unique and essential task of assigning new students to one of the four houses, will place this new student in to Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin. For the most part, this process runs pretty smoothly, with students being sorted across the board. But what if for some strange reason, things didn’t go quite as smoothly as they usually do? What if the Sorting process led to a completely disproportionate number of students in one house? Or better yet, what if one or more houses had no new students at all? Today we’re tackling all of that (and more) as we dive (deeper) in to the Sorting Ceremony.

There is a LOT of ground to cover and a LOT of names on this list, so this will just be PART 1 of a multi part series. Starting in alphabetical order, today we’re taking a look at the A’s and B’s. 21 Nov 2024 | Why Wizards STOPPED Using POWERFUL Ancient Magic - Harry Potter Theory | 00:13:59
"A magic this powerful can do great harm in the wrong hands. It must be wielded by a select few." This fairly ominous quote of course refers to the phenomenon that is Ancient Magic—a primal, mysterious force that predates the more structured spellwork of the modern Wizarding World. Revered for its immense power yet feared for its unpredictability, ancient magic is woven into the tapestry of wizarding history, appearing in legends and the very foundations of wizarding society. Yet, in the modern day we hear very little of this ‘ancient’ and powerful force. Which raises an important question: how could something so integral to the Wizarding World’s past have dwindled into what is effectively complete obscurity. In today’s video, we’ll delve into the mysteries of Ancient Magic—exploring what it truly is, where it went, and examining some examples of Ancient Magic that appear throughout the series, some of which you may not have even realized were ancient magic at all. Let’s dive in.

15 Nov 2024 | HBO Found Their NEW Dumbledore + Hogwarts Legacy SEQUEL Update - Harry Potter News | 00:08:26
Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. From the moment HBO’s new Harry Potter TV Series was announced in April of 2023, fans of the series have been buzzing with questions and excitement. Questions like..What will the series be about? Will it stay true to the original books? And most importantly, who will be in charge of the project? And since then, a lot of these questions have been answered. But perhaps the biggest lingering question mark surrounding the series pertains to casting. Because you see, so much of the Harry Potter films success was a direct result of the incredible casting decisions that were made. For many of the roles it’s almost impossible to imagine ANYONE else undertaking them. But..Showrunners for the upcoming series have the behemoth task of finding people anyway. Back in September an open casting call was announced for 3 of the most important characters in the series- Harry, Ron and Hermione. And for these roles, I can almost certainly tell you that it will be relatively unknown actors that end up taking on the characters. But besides these 3, there are a few other massively important roles that are central to the series..Like, oh I don’t know- ALBUS DUMBLEDORE. And as it turns out, the studio already has someone in mind.

29 Aug 2023 | Every Auror in Harry Potter Ranked by POWER (All 40) | 00:26:27
Today we’re discussing Aurors from Harry Potter, a group of elite and highly trained witches and wizards that work for the Department of Magical Law Enforcement inside the Ministry of Magic. Or if you’re in the US, for the Magical Congress of the United States of America. Comparable to say, the Secret Service in the Muggle World, Aurors are responsible for investigating and handling any and all crimes pertaining to dark wizards and dark magic. "Aurors are the Wizarding World's best defence against the practitioners of the Dark Arts. We're well-versed in offensive magic, because our very lives depend on it. It takes courage, wit, and guile. Not many have the stomach for it. Do you?" Aurors play a crucial role in maintaining peace and combating dark forces in the wizarding world- serving as an essential pillar of magical law enforcement. They stand as a symbol of courage, skill, and unwavering dedication. The origins of Aurors trace back to the tumultuous period of the 18th century when the wizarding world faced numerous threats and internal conflicts. This era, marked by dark wizard supremacy and oppression, laid the foundation for the formation of the Auror profession. As wizards and witches became increasingly concerned about the misuse of magic, an urgent need arose for skilled individuals who could safeguard the magical community and bring justice to wrongdoers. From quelling goblin rebellions, to investigating the illegal trade of magical creatures, the Aurors were the closest thing to a standing army that the Ministry would ever mobilize. But which Aurors were most powerful? Let's take a look.

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be discussing the DARK WIZARDS of times past. Now, when most people hear the term ‘dark wizard’ their mind likely jumps to 1 of 2 figures, Voldemort or Grindelwald. Today, we’re going to dive in and take a look at some of these lesser-known wizards, starting with the oldest. 18 Jan 2023 | This DARK Theory Completely Flips Harry Potter's Ending - Harry Potter Theory | 00:10:54
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re discussing a HORRIFIC Harry Potter Theory that bears the potential to completely flip the Harry Potter ending on its head. It involves (you guessed it) our main antagonist Lord Voldemort- and a scenario in which Voldemort…*gasp*..SURVIVES. Voldemort is defeated (at least markedly) twice in the Harry Potter story. His first defeat was at the Potter residence in Godric’s Hollow, where his rebounding curse (thanks to Lily’s loving sacrifice) shot back at him and ripped his soul from his destroyed body. This marked the (temporary) end of Voldemort, and the end of the First Wizarding War. But Voldemort certainly wasn’t done- oh no no. In 1995 Voldemort made his resurgence, more motivated than ever to take back control of the Wizarding World and get revenge on the boy who had defeated him. However, this didn’t work out too well for him either, as shown in his final showdown with Harry during the Battle of Hogwarts. And after this final fated duel, it’s generally accepted that Voldemort was dead. In the films, Voldemort’s body broke off in to thousands of pieces and vanished in to nothing, and in the books the former dark-lord was reduced to a corpse just like anyone else. Eventually, after all of the dust has settled, Voldemort’s body is moved in to a resting Chamber within the walls of Hogwarts- something that the films fail to mention altogether. It’s here- somewhere entirely unspecified within the castle- that Voldemort purportedly lay for the remainder of eternity. Or…DID HE? The theory that I want to put forth today suggests that Voldemort, by way of- you guessed it- HORCRUXES- was able to survive.

13 Jun 2023 | When Wizards DIE: Exploring the Wizarding Afterlife - Harry Potter Explained | 00:10:57
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re discussing the Wizarding Afterlife- taking a closer look at what exactly happens to witches and wizards when they die. The line between the living and the dead is unquestionably a blurry one in Harry Potter. This is reinforced by the prevalence of beings that skirt these two planes of existence- Ghosts and Dementors are some of the first that come to mind. And with these blurred lines, the topic of death (which is also a key thematic element in Harry Potter) becomes even more alluring. In fact, one of the main messages of the Harry Potter books is that death is NOT absolute. It’s also reinforced that it’s not anything we should be worrying about. We’re continually reminded that death is simply a part of LIFE, and that rather than obsessing over it we should instead shift our focus on seeking love and friendship- enjoying the time that we do have. Voldemort infamously tried to evade death - which is why his name is aptly derived from the french ‘vol-de-mort’ meaning ‘flight of death’. But the lesson the books teach surrounding the inevitability of death is one that never quite resonated with our immortality-obsessed antagonist. Rather than embrace life at it’s own pace, Voldemort devised all sorts of plans to achieve the ever-elusive goal of immortality. On a side note- there are actually FIVE methods of achieving immortality in Harry Potter. If you’re curious about them, check out my video ‘all 5 methods of immortality in Harry Potter’. So life and death have blurred lines- but what exactly does that mean? What happens to a witch or wizard when they die? Why do some become ghosts? Is there an AFTERLIFE?

20 Jan 2023 | Why Were Harry's Parents SO Rich? - Harry Potter Explained | 00:09:37
Welcome to arry Potter Theory. Today we’re discussing HOW on earth Harry Potter's parents amassed such an incredible amount of wealth. How is it that Harry’s vault was absolutely bursting at the seams from galleons when the vault of an entire family (the Weasley’s) had but just one single galleon. We’re also going to be looking at why Rowling made the decision to make Harry as wealthy as he was. When the Philosopher’s Stone was first released- we got our first look into the contents of Harry’s vault (vault 687) when Hagrid escorts him to Gringotts: Griphook unlocked the door. A lot of green smoke came billowing out, and as it cleared, Harry gasped. Inside were mounds of gold coins. Columns of silver. Heaps of little bronze Knuts. "All yours," smiled Hagrid. And from the first time I read that passage, I became fascinated with Harry’s immense fortune. How did he get it? How much was there? And what did these immense stacks of gold coins look like? Fortunately, this scene was brought to life on-screen in the release of the Philosopher’s Stone in 2001- and it allowed us to finally witness, with our own eyes, exactly what Harry would have seen when he first stepped foot in vault 687. I’d also like to point out that this scene was preceded by Harry asking: “But, Hagrid, how am I to pay for all this? I haven't any money.” Oh, Harry. So again I ask- WHERE ON EARTH did Harry’s parents (who were just 21 years old when they died) get all of this gold to leave for Harry?

21 Sep 2024 | The Shocking TRUTH Behind Blood Status and Magical Power - Harry Potter Theory | 00:10:51
Blood status has been a controversial and longstanding source of division and prejudice in the Wizarding World, and it all stems from the categorization of magical bloodlines into pure-bloods, half-bloods, and muggle-borns. And while I don’t condone demonizing any of these groups and certainly don’t want to contribute to further prejudice, I can’t help but wonder if there are actual physiological differences between them—beyond just their blood, of course. Voldemort's stance on blood purity is an unusual one, as despite being a half-blood himself, he condemned anyone that wasn’t pure of blood. This becomes increasingly confusing when considered in tandem with his own ego, as he hardly seems like the type of person to undermine his own identity. At first glance his hatred and prejudice towards other groups seems like completely blind and baseless discrimination, but if we consider that his ultimate goal undermines his OWN identity, perhaps it tells us that he genuinely perceived qualities in pure-bloods that he felt were essential for true magical prowess. Today we’re going to be exploring all of that AND MORE as we attempt to identify differences between pure-bloods, half-bloods and muggleborns.

28 May 2023 | Why Don't MORE Wizards Become Animagi? - Harry Potter Theory | 00:11:22
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be discussing animagi- witches and wizards with the unique ability to transform in to an animal (and back again) at will. A single witch or wizard who possesses this ability is known as an ‘animagus’. The practice of becoming an animagus and transforming your body in this way is considered to be a specialized form of transfiguration- a branch of magic focused on changing the form and appearance of objects, creatures and people. Animagus is a combination of the word "animal" and the Greek word magus, meaning "animal wizard." Once a witch or wizard masters the ability to become an Animagus, they will ‘adopt’ an animal form that is closely linked to their personality and inner traits. But perhaps the most alluring aspect of animagi is the fact that there are, according to Hermione’s research, only 7 known animagi from the last century. What I want to discuss further is…Why? How is it that this powerful ability is so underutilized in wizarding society? Why haven’t powerful wizards like Voldemort and Dumbledore attempted it? Let’s dive in.

01 Nov 2024 | The Ministry of Magic Is More EVIL than You Think - Harry Potter Theory | 00:11:00
The introduction of the International Statute of Secrecy in 1692 marked a pivotal moment in Wizarding history. It put a stop to the witch hunts and unjust persecution of witches and wizards. It ushered in an era of harmonious co-existence. And most importantly, it separated the two worlds: muggle and magical. But what IF there was a darker element to the statute that has never been properly explored?- an element that concerned the muggles beyond the primary separation of the two worlds? What if the statute, and the subsequent formation of the Ministry of Magic- marked the dawn of an era wherein wizardkind stealthily wielded control over the non-magical world, deftly manipulating it from the concealed depths of the shadows? Today we’re going to be exploring all of that, and more, as we discuss wizardkind’s *silent* control over the Muggle dominion.

As this is a compilation style video spanning YEARS of the channel please be aware of some varied audio levels, inconsistent numbering and some (but hopefully not too much) repeated information. Anyway, without further do- sit back, relax and enjoy 15 theories about Albus Dumbledore.

12 Jan 2023 | 10 Greatest Influences on Harry Potter - Harry Potter Explained | 00:09:14
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re discussing 10 iconic pieces of literature that DIRECTLY inspired the Harry Potter story. These books are the primary influences and in some instances motivators that prompted JK Rowling to create the vast Wizarding World we’ve all come to know so well. Some of them are quite obvious, but others are remarkably subtle. I’ll also add that Rowling herself has given acknowledgement to MOST of the influences featured on this list, however I will mention that there are a few which are simply analogues too similar to ignore- books published PRIOR to Harry Potter that contain elements which appear all too familiar. Let’s get in to it.

25 Mar 2024 | Salazar Slytherin CREATED the Mirror of Erised - Harry Potter Theory | 00:08:44
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re discussing a well-known Hogwarts artefact known as the Mirror of Erised. Specifically, we’re going to be getting in to a theory regarding it’s dark and otherwise UNKNOWN history. This particular mirror also happens to be the inspiration behind the outro featured on every video I launch on this channel. Harry first discovers the Mirror for himself in the Philosopher’s Stone: “It was a magnificent mirror, as high as the ceiling, with an ornate gold frame, standing on two clawed feet. There was an inscription carved around the top: Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi. “ In case you’ve forgotten how the mirror works, it’s essentially a magical mirror that holds the power to show us the ‘deepest, most desperate desires’ of our hearts. This is reflected in the mirror’s name, no pun intended, as ‘Erised’ flipped around reads as ‘desire’. Engraved on the mirror are the words ‘Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi, which, backwards, reads as ‘I show not your face but your hearts desire’. According to existing Harry Potter lore all we know is that it existed BEFORE the nineteenth century (pretty open window there) and that no one knows HOW it arrived at Hogwarts. These two aspects of the mirror’s existence seem to be entirely undocumented. Moreover, it is entirely ambiguous whether the Mirror of Erised was created with innocent and playful intentions or with more malevolent and darker motives.

12 Sep 2023 | History of Gringotts and Wizard Money - Harry Potter Explained | 00:15:43
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we’ll be discussing the history of Gringotts Wizarding Bank, as well as the magical money that it uses to fuel the wizarding economy. Gringotts was first founded in the late 15th century during the year of 1474 by a goblin who went by the name—you guessed it—Gringott. Little is known about the goblin Gringott and his formative years, or even how old he was when he founded the bank that would become the safest place for valuables in the wizarding world. What we do know is that he is featured on his own Chocolate Frog Card, alongside the likes of famous witches and wizards, such as Albus Dumbledore and Merlin. In a small way, this signifies the incredible accomplishment Gringott achieved by creating the first-ever bank for magical society. The bank itself is located on the north side of the hidden locale, Diagon Alley, a street magically concealed from Muggles and only visited by those who are part of the wizarding world. Accessible via the wizarding pub, the Leaky Cauldron, which sits upon the Muggle road of Charing Cross Road, Gringotts is one of the most frequented magical establishments within Central London. This, of course, is due to the fact that Gringotts is the ONLY wizarding bank in Britain, meaning that any witch or wizard who wishes to keep their gold or other valuables safe inside a proper magical bank would need to travel to Britain and visit Gringotts to do so. Of course, this is rather unbelievable to us Muggles, who seem to have a bank on every other street corner, which is made clear by Harry’s reaction the first time Hagrid tells him of Gringotts’ existence…

07 Apr 2023 | Is Slytherin House EVIL? - Harry Potter Theory | 00:09:14
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we're discussing the house of Slytherin and whether or not its students are inherently EVIL. First off, I’d like to address…why would Slytherin House be EVIL? Well, throughout the centuries, Slytherin hasn’t always had the best reputation. In fact, it started off with a pretty poor one almost as soon as it was founded. This is, of course, because the founding wizard of Slytherin House, Salazar Slytherin had what we might call a rather … “limited” view of what it meant to be a TRUE witch or wizard. In fact, as one of the four founding members of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Salazar Slytherin indeed advocated for the school to ONLY admit pureblood pupils. He believed that Muggle-born or half-blood witches and wizards were “less than” and shouldn’t be permitted access to a magical education such as the one the founding members were offering at Hogwarts. Now, while these views certainly suggest that Salazar Slytherin was a rather prejudiced and narrow-minded wizard, they don’t necessarily mean that he was an EVIL man. However, Salazar Slytherin did do a great many other things that bring his character—and inherent evilness—into question. One of the most obvious examples being his creation of the Chamber of Secrets. I mean, what good and sane person puts a gigantic, incredibly dangerous Basilisk with a fatal stare and sideways glance that petrifies people right beneath a school full of children? What good could possibly come out of that? And speaking of snakes, there’s also the fact that Salazar was a parseltongue, meaning that he had the ability to speak to snakes and serpent-like creatures. This alone certainly doesn’t make him evil—but if you add the fact that almost every parseltongue that we’re aware of was pretty evil—like Voldemort and the Gaunt family— it definitely doesn’t do Salazar Slytherin any favours in supporting his character. ...Let's continue

09 Jan 2024 | Horace Slughorn's DARK Secret - Harry Potter Theory | 00:09:33
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing Horace Slughorn. The....LIAR? For the most part, Slughorn is regarded as charming, jovial and well-liked among students and staff alike. He had a talent for creating positive and welcoming environments. He was also known for his love of the finer things in life, such as good food and luxurious tastes. What’s more, Slughorn was an excellent professor- showing plenty of enthusiasm and providing practical examples to help students understand complex potion-making techniques. We later find out that Slughorn had some skeletons in his closet, like giving Tom Riddle information on Horcruxes, but after those memories are extracted he’s still not exactly painted as a guilty party. He comes across as a sort of unwilling participant, divulging information on a topic that he couldn’t have possibly considered the ramifications of. But here’s my hot take...Slughorn’s nature was a lot darker than people realize.

30 May 2023 | Top 10 Darkest Moments LEFT OUT of the Films - Harry Potter Explained | 00:14:23
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today discussing BOOKS vs FILMS - honing in on some of the darkest BOOK moments that, for varying reasons, simply never made their way on to the silver screen. While the film adaptations brought the magic of Hogwarts to life on the big screen, they were not without their limitations. In the process of adapting the complex and intricate world of the books into a more visually-driven medium, certain dark and unsettling moments were omitted or altered, leaving fans with a somewhat diluted version of Rowling's original vision. Today, we’ll delve into these dark moments left out of the films, exploring the reasons behind their omissions and the impact of these changes on the overall story. Let’s dive in.

11 Jul 2023 | Why Fred and George Never Saw Peter Pettigrew on the Marauder's Map - Harry Potter Theory | 00:08:54
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we’ll be discussing why Fred and George Weasley never noticed Peter Pettigrew—aka Scabbers the rat—on the magically revealing Marauder’s Map. I suppose to start with, we can address the question of: Why would they? Well, as we learn near the end of Harry Potter’s third year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the Marauder’s Map has the capability to reveal each and every person roaming the hallowed halls of the school, regardless of their form. It represents witches and wizards with a dot that has a corresponding name—which is ALWAYS their true identity, again regardless of any magic that may make them appear differently when confronted in person. And it is through the Map that Harry discovers a number of unsettling secrets that have to do with the night his parents were murdered—including the fact that Peter Pettigrew, his father’s mate who supposedly died that same night, is ALIVE. How does he discover this? He sees him on the Marauder’s Map. But I’m getting ahead of myself…

28 Jul 2023 | History of House Elves - Harry Potter Theory | 00:26:34
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re discussing house elves, an often-overlooked species of magical beings from within the wizarding world. Specifically, we’re going to be diving in to their origins- taking a look at where they came from and how they got to be in the position that they’re in today. House elves have been an integral part of wizarding society for centuries, serving as loyal companions and helpers to wizarding families. But what’s interesting is that we’re never actually fed much info on their history. Did house elves precede the existence of witches and wizards? When did house elves first come to be? What inspired JK Rowling to create them? Why do they SERVE? And just how did they evolve into such an essential aspect of the wizarding world? I also want to examine how House elves were used to symbolize deeper themes of social justice, equality, and the ethics of servitude. Hopefully, through our examination of their history, we'll uncover the powerful messages J.K. Rowling intended to convey through highlighting the mistreatment of an entire species marginalized in society. Without further ado, let’s dive in.

14 Nov 2024 | Where Do SQUIBS Come From? Why Aren't They Magical? - Harry Potter Theory | 00:08:28
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we’ll be discussing exactly how the genetics of witches and wizards work, with a focus on where the heck SQUIBS come from. If you’re a fan of Harry Potter and the works of fantasy fiction in general, you’ve likely asked yourself the question: Where does magic come from? In some universes it would seem that magic can be acquired or learned. But in others—like the wizarding world of Harry Potter—magic is explained as more of a natural talent or “gift” that a person is born with. But how exactly does that magic get passed down from generation to generation? Why is it that some Muggles end up with magical abilities—while other children born into wizarding families are unable to perform even the simplest of spells?

05 Nov 2024 | Why Didn't Voldemort Pick RANDOM Tiny Objects for Horcruxes? - Harry Potter Theory | 00:10:10
A grain of sand on a lost beach. A tiny pebble lying unnoticed on the ocean floor. A fallen acorn buried under years of autumn leaves. A faded seashell washed ashore on an uninhabited island. These are just a few examples of the kinds of objects that I would use if I was in the position to create my own Horcruxes…And I’m sure the same can be said for a lot of you. Why? Well.. They’re small, hard-to-locate, and perhaps most important of all: meaningless. But somehow, Voldemort missed the memo here, and instead chose objects that were eventually linked back to him. So..The obvious questions here are…WHY was Voldemort so particular in his selection process for potential Horcruxes? And why didn’t he choose things that would be virtually impossible to find? After all, had he done what seems so obvious, to pick meaningless inanimate objects, he may still be ruling over the Wizarding World.

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we're delving into the realm of DELETED characters- figures that were mentioned by Rowling but never made an appearance in any officially released material- whether it be books or films. While we have been enthralled by the likes of Harry, Hermione, and Ron, there exists a treasure trove of characters lying dormant in the scribblings, unpublished drafts and words spoken by J.K. Rowling during interviews. Some were scrapped in the editing process, others lost to the ever-advancing plot, and the rest just weren’t quite Harry Potter material. Today we’ll be delving into the sketches, interviews, and whispered rumors to uncover these intriguing, yet unused, characters. Discussing their origins, powers, and the roles they may have played if given the chance. From a lost Weasley family member, to a Hogwarts TOAD ghost, to a professor named Pettigrew, this list has it all. I’ve managed to piece together 30 characters in total, which does already seem like quite a lot, but if I’ve missed any PLEASE let me know in the comments and I’ll address it in a future video.

31 May 2024 | What's the Wizarding World like in 2024? - Harry Potter Theory | 00:21:01
What is the Wizarding World Like in 2024 Who is Minister for Magic? What are Modern Brooms like? Who is Headmaster of Hogwarts? Are there Wizarding CELL PHONES? Is blood status STILL a controversial issue? And most importantly: are there any other NEW dark wizards on the rise? Today we’ll be answering all of that and MORE as we discuss the Wizarding World in modern times. Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be discussing the Wizarding World in the modern era. It’s been 26 prosperous years since Lord Voldemort made his final stand at the Battle of Hogwarts, finally meeting his end on May 2nd of 1998. And since that time, the MUGGLE world has changed a whole lot. The Internet has become mainstream, smartphones are prolific, communication is instant and everything is online. And if we consider how much the MUGGLE world has developed since the late 90s, I’d wager that the Wizarding World has undergone something similar. I think that, since the momentous day that marked Voldemort’s defeat, the Wizarding World has undergone a significant amount of change. Firstly, because they haven’t a dark threat to deal with in MANY years, and secondly because technology (even wizarding technology) develops exponentially. The First Wizarding War ran from 1970-1981, and the Second Wizarding War ran from 1995-1998, which MEANS that this is the longest period of time (for quite some time) that the Wizarding World has been able to exist in relative peace. And with the focus shifting from dark threats to societal development, things can evolve pretty quickly. Just like a phoenix, wizarding society rose from the ashes and emerged from the second wizarding war stronger than ever.

25 Aug 2023 | Why Dumbledore Should've Been in Slytherin (+What IF He Was) | 00:16:16
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. And who could forget what Hagrid told Harry before he entered his first year at Hogwarts: “There's not a single witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin. You-Know-Who was one.”

03 Feb 2024 | 5 Harry Potter Characters That Are TOTALLY Different in the Books | 00:09:07
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re discussing Harry Potter book characters who are NOTHING like their movie counterparts. As a general rule, fans of book series know to watch movie adaptations of the novels they love without expecting too much—for it is extremely rare that a filmmaker's vision will match the fictitious world that a fan has created in their own mind. After all, how could you expect every single person to interpret a book the EXACT same way—from the appearance of the characters to how the world looks around them. And even if there was some sort of consensus on how a character was supposed to look, there’s also the fact that it’s incredibly unlikely for there to be an actor or actress out there who perfectly resembles that character, is the right age, has the correct dialect, AND can act. Of course, this seems even more impossible when applying the concept to an entire cast of characters—like in Harry Potter. And so, when the first movie adaptation of the Harry Potter series, The Philosopher’s Stone, was released in 2001, it goes without saying that fans of the books knew things wouldn’t be perfect. BUT it wasn’t unreasonable to think that the films would at least TRY to accurately reflect the people and places that fans had read on the pages of the first few books. And in many ways, it did—especially, that first film. However, as more and more movies were made, there were some pretty glaring differences between the books and the films—in particular, with some of the main characters of the series. And so, here are five book characters that I think are NOTHING like their movie counterparts…

20 Oct 2023 | This DARK Harry Potter Theory Totally CHANGES Voldemort's Defense Against the Dark Arts Curse | 00:16:27
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be discussing a rather compelling theory pertaining to the Defence Against the Dark Arts posting at Hogwarts school. I first saw this theory on Reddit, so shout out to ‘Wordhammer’ on the HP subreddit for the inspiration. Defence Against the Dark Arts is a CORE subject taught at Hogwarts that (purportedly) teaches students how to defend themselves against dark magic, creatures and curses- though I’m not sure this subject has been particularly successful in this regard. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including recognizing and repelling dark creatures, identifying and countering curses, and learning protective spells. But for as long as Harry attended Hogwarts (and actually, for many decades prior) the subject had a particularly high turnover rate. Scratch that..a LUDICROUSLY high turnover rate. Every single year that Harry attended Hogwarts he had a completely different professor that taught the subject in an entirely different way. As you can imagine, this was pretty disruptive to the learning process. And WHO could be responsible for such a mess? Why, Lord Voldemort of course. This is explained to Harry by Dumbledore: "Oh, he definitely wanted the Defense Against the Dark Arts job," said Dumbledore. "The aftermath of our little meeting proved that. You see, we have never been able to keep a Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher for longer than a year since I refused the post to Lord Voldemort." And it all dates back to young Tom Riddle’s graduation from Hogwarts. Shortly after completing his studies, Tom Riddle expressed his desire to become the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at his alma mater- partially driven by his love for the school, and partially by his fascination with the Dark Arts. And he didn’t waste any time, quickly submitting an application to (then) headmaster Armando Dippet. After some time Dippet ended up refusing Riddle’s application, citing his age, but did encourage him to re-apply in the future if he was still interested. More than two decades later, Riddle emerged as the enigmatic and notorious Lord Voldemort. Seeking an opportunity to return to Hogwarts, Voldemort once again pursued the coveted Defence Against the Dark Arts position. However, this time, Albus Dumbledore had assumed the role of Headmaster. Recognizing Voldemort's dark intentions, Dumbledore staunchly rejected his application. Despite Voldemort's ulterior motives of using the application as a pretext to conduct research on dark magic, recruit followers, and conceal one of his Horcruxes, he was enraged by the denial of his return to the school. After his denial, Voldemort sought vengeance by jinxing the position, ensuring that from that point onward no one could maintain the Defence Against the Dark Arts post for more than one year. And as far as conventional understanding of the Harry Potter story goes- everyone has always accepted this fact at face value. No one can hold the position for more than a year, and that’s about all there is to it. There’s no explanation for WHY 1 year or HOW 1 year is actually..Enforced. Which makes me wonder, how is it that this Jinx actually WORKS? We know the outcome but have very little information on the process.
