Our goal in this week's episode is to share an approach for discussion and useful knowledge about the topic, gender identity. Today, host Colby Allen and producer Tom Viator share a podcast recorded on the rode at St. Edmond Catholic Church in Lafayette, Louisiana. Mrs. Brenda DesOrmeaux, Founder of the DesOrmeaux Foundation, also joins the team to share a story of how a Saint that JPII Canonized impacted the opening of a maternity home on the DesOrmeaux Foundation campus. In parts 1 and 2 of the series we shared how resurrection can bring hope for some who have considered it and fear for others who may not have pondered the possibilities of resurrection as a common human experience. There are various ways of responding to and embracing this reality. Dia de los Muertos is a rich Mexican tradition rooted in the hope of eternal life.  It is a day set aside to honor the dead and to celebrate the unique and unrepeatable person who has lived and died. It is a tradition that lightens the load of death and expresses joy in the face of morality in a unique way.

Thank you for spending some time with us today. We are moving back into Pope St. John Paul II's audiences as we start Chapter 2, "Christ appeals to the Human Heart. In other shows we've shared Theology of the Body is nothing new because its based on the Holy Scripture of the Bible. This beginning section of chapter 2 points directly at a Gospel event, The Sermon on the Mount. In this well known section of the Gospels JP II shares why Jesus was challenging those in attendance to search their hearts to find out who they were truly made to be.

In honor of Sanctity of Life month join our Theology of the Body Community of Acadiana Founder, Adele Guillot, and Brenda DesOrmeaux, the Founder of the DesOrmeaux Foundation as they discuss Pope Paul IV's prophetic document "Humanae Vitae" (of Human Life). From this document, written nearly 55 years ago, Adele and Brenda uncover warnings of attacks on marriage, abuse of women and a rise in adolescent pregnancy. They will also discuss why Pope Paul IV wrote this document, what was going on prior to the release of "Humanae Vitae" and can we do anything to reverse the culture of death brought on by contraception and abortion.

Is healing possible inside a crisis situation? Join Adele & Tom with team members from the DesOrmeaux Foundation’s Women’s Center of Lafayette as they discuss how Theology of the Body is starting to play a key role in assisting  Women and their families in crisis situations.  For 23 years the DesOrmeaux Foundation has been a place of refuge for women in need of life giving resources, life planning, shelter and a place for someone to just listen and offer comfort.  Recently the Foundation’s Founder, Brenda DesOrmeaux, decided to add Theology of the Body to its several programs designed to help Women dealing with life’s burdens and it’s starting to make a difference in ways she didn’t imagine.  Listen-in as we share how St. John Paul II’s life changing teachings are helping not only the Women’s Center’s clients with their lives and struggles but the employees are also benefiting in their personal and family lives.

Join Colby, Adele, and Becki in conversation on the experience of suffering in the light of the writings of St. John Paul II. Suffering is a common human experience no one can escape. Nevertheless, there is always hope and healing possible in every experience of suffering. Like death and the afterlife, suffering has an element of mystery that cannot be neatly analyzed and categorized. Experiences and responses to suffering in the human experience vary and are as unique as the people who suffer, namely all of humanity. In this series, we ponder this mystery and hope to bring forth hope in the elements of healing available in all experiences of suffering. Such healing has the capacity to ground us in an authentic experience of human life and integral growth as a person.

Welcome to part 2 in our series on Couples and Theology of the Body. For the last few months our own Becki Landry has been working with 4 amazing couples in preparation to deliver a couples retreat on Theology of the Body. In the last show we introduced you to the couples as they shared insights about what got them interested in TOB. Why do we do what we do? John Paul II as a philosopher and theologian, threaded a phenomenological approach through his writings and dialogue, appealing to a close and repetitive observation of our human experience as a means of understanding the Truth about who we are and why we exist. In today's episode Colby, Adele & Becki discuss how human experience (Someone's Phenomenology) can shed light on why we exist the way we do.  Our Experiences shape who we are and if we are aware of this we can set a good direction for our life.  Experiences are important because they shape our attitudes and perceptions, attitudes and perceptions shape expectations and expectations shape behaviors.  

Today we're diving into a profound concept from St. John Paul II's, Theology of the Body, that has the potential to reshape our understanding of ourselves and our relationships. In our second episode of the 2024 Christmas season we wanted to look at how St. John Paul II's teachings in Theology of the Body relate to Christmas. Is pornography causing a health crisis in multiple states?  In part 4 of our our series, The Naked Truth about porn, Colby, Becki, Adele and Tom ask that question to Louisiana's Top Legal Officer, Attorney General Jeff Landry.  Listen in as A.G. Landry shares some shocking statistics on the increase in child abuse cases involving pornography as well as his team's "Protecting Innocence" report that sheds a bright light on ways to protect children from obscenities in public libraries.  In addition, with the help of Landry, our team was given access to talk to David Farris who heads Louisiana's Cyber Crimes unit.  Farris discusses how he and his team of agents are battling an overwhelming number of disturbing violent sexual crime cases involving children from infant to teens.  This episode will be difficult to listen to but you will want to stay until the end when Farris shares what citizens can do to help his team in the fight against pornography.

So what is Theology of the Body?  We thought it would be interesting to answer this question by recording a live presentation from our Theology of the Body Community of Acadiana Founder, Adele Guillot.  This event was recorded live on the campus of St. Edmond's Catholic Church in Lafayette, LA where Adele summarized St. John Paul II's 129 homilies that make up TOB in front of the parents of the parish's CCD classes.  Enjoy as Adele uses her unique, straightforward presenting style to unpack JPII's invitation for all people in all circumstances to recognize that our bodies are stamped by God with an invitation to love.

In this episode we share and discuss the last of what St. John Paul II called the 3 states of innocence in the human person, 1st was Original Solitude, then Original Unity and now Original Nakedness. This term, JP II says, is the key to understanding the human person and, his or her, full anthropology (study of the development of man). In part two of the 3 part series on the Mysteries of Human Suffering, Becky and Adele will get insights of the hope of healing trauma in the body from guest Dr. Veronica Lenzi. Suffering is a common human experience no one can escape. Nevertheless, there is always hope and healing possible in every experience of suffering. Like death and the afterlife, suffering has an element of mystery that cannot be neatly analyzed and categorized. Experiences and responses to suffering in the human experience vary and are as unique as the people who suffer, namely all of humanity. In this series, we ponder this mystery and hope to bring forth hope in the healing elements available in all experiences of suffering. Such healing has the capacity to ground us in an authentic experience of human life and integral growth as a person.
