08 Dec 2022BONUS: The Shrinks hate toast and cope with failure00:59:37

Who else loves a Thursday Bonus? The Shrinks grouped up for an all-too-rare session together, to ruminate on bagels and other breakfast breads, and Connor is so ill. The bois also discuss recent therapy conversations, the act of journaling and other forms of self-care, and how they deal with failure.

06 Jun 2023#073 - Golf means nothing to Christine Fraser01:01:58

Golf course architect, Christine Fraser, came on the Group Golf Therapy couch 2 years ago. She was the fourth session of the podcast. Much has changed for us all in that time: work has come; pro-ams have been played; Connor slept on a cot in Christine’s Edinburgh hotel room. But one thing has remained: the Shrinks and Christine are family. This session is a catch-up on the past few years, running through Christine’s recent work, and her future plans to build the modern day St Andrews. Praise: check. Tears: check. A GGT classic.

In this session: Nan is a badass, the Power of No, the universality of maintenance sheds.

ALERT: In the show, Christine referenced a golf course called The Loop at Chaska, which is a 9-holer in Minnesota designed specifically with adaptive needs golfers in mind. Read more about Chaska HERE!

24 Jan 2023#060 - Lizette Salas is tequila-motivated01:01:27

Lizette Salas is an LPGA Tour golfer. She's a US Solheim Cup team member. But her identity encapsulates so much more. During the height of the pandemic, when the LPGA Tour was shut down, Lizette was forced to ask herself big, difficult questions about how golf made her feel. For six months, she went through a process the Shrinks call "burning down the forest to see what grows back." Lizette worked hard on developing the vocabulary to describe how she was feeling to the people in her circle. It took time, but eventually she made it back to the golf course, ready to start competing again. Lizette is thoughtful, kind, insightful, deeply funny, and much, much more than a professional golfer.

In this session: broadening your identity, hit-and-giggles, don’t touch my clubs.

10 Aug 2021#006 - Time Traveling with Sean Hotchkiss01:26:04
Sean Hotchkiss joins us for this session, and he had a ton to unpack on the show: his journey through self-discovery and acceptance, writing stories as a means of survival, and a therapeutic technique we can all use to play golf with a younger version of ourselves. Sean is a former magazine writer, who now runs a life coaching practice, and the three of us learned so much from how rawly and candidly he carries himself. Like a lot of our guests, Sean hit the pause button on golf for a period in his life, but he's recently picked the clubs back up. In his words, he feels younger when he plays golf now, than when he was playing as a kid. 05 Apr 2022#027 - Farris Holliday plays golf in 50 states01:07:17

In June 2021, Farris Holliday completed a whopping Pandemic project: he played a round of golf in all 50 states. His one tip for anyone else trying to do this? Marry a flight attendant, like he did. Farris' journey across the country with his golf clubs was one of self-discovery and getting to the root of what golf in America truly resembles. Unfortunately, Farris wasn't always met in the pro shop with open arms.

Farris has an evolved outlook on what golf can do for the mind, the body, and the soul. He also has one of our favorite "mortal wounds" we've ever heard.

18 May 2022#032 - Griffin House on his birthday01:07:04
Griffin House may be a professional musician, but his first love was golf. Growing up in Ohio, he'd spend hours on the driving range, instilling a meditative-like practice into his life. Like many guests on the GGT couch, Griffin walked away from golf for a long spell, before returning to the game with unbridled enthusiasm. Griffin and Drew connected at the Golf Digest Hot List summit, and Drew knew immediately that Griffin's energy would resonate with the Shrinks. I In this session: the most nervous shot in golf, grandparent names, and connecting with an audience. Also: we found out mid-episode that it was Griffin's birthday—a GGT first. Crazy. 19 Dec 2023#096 - Tisha Alyn needs some alone time00:53:33

Tisha Alyn is a host, creator, and professional golfer who partners with some of the biggest brands in the world. As someone who's business is, well, them, the boundaries between being on and being off can get blurry. Bradford and Connor hear from Tisha about how being an influencer for seven years has impacted her mental health, what her ideal round of golf might look (and sound) like, and how it all comes back to family.

Welcome back, jocks! This week, the jocks are talking about the sleep paralysis demon that haunts us all: Barstool Sports. 31 May 2022#034 - Browns QB Josh Dobbs is ready for his quiz00:47:14

Josh Dobbs is just one year into his golf journey. The newly signed quarterback for the Cleveland Browns seeks the golf course to unwind from the mania that is the NFL season. He finds similarities between the sports, though: they're both games of inches and precision, and they require intense mental fortitude. Just last month, Josh hosted his first charity golf event, which brought together friends, family, and fellow University of Tennessee alumni to support local Knoxville organizations.

09 May 2023#069 - Will Lowery hosted an AJGA event + NEW ALLBIRDS GOLF SHOE?!01:08:09

The Shrinks have been trying to pin down Will Lowery for a conversation since season 1 of Group Golf Therapy. But the universe wanted it to happen in person. Will is, among many other things, active — he’s a podcaster, broadcaster, partner of the Underrated Golf tour, screenplay writer, former professional golfer, and recent first-time host of his very own golf tournament, the AJGA Will Lowery Junior Championship. Whew. It’s been a mighty couple years for Will, but those years haven’t been without pain and loss. He has his weekly cries in the car, and is trying really, really hard to put his authentic self forward with every conversation and opportunity that comes his way. Now, we just need Will to get back into social golf.

This in-person conversation wouldn’t have happened without our friends at Allbirds. They just released their FIRST-EVER GOLF SHOE, the Golf Dasher, which you can grab a pair of at allbirds.com. You’ll thank us (and them) — the shoes are insanely comfortable, beautifully sustainable, and miraculously able to withstand Connor’s lashing golf swing.

Maddi MacClurg is an Assistant Editor at Golf Digest, who contributes to the publication’s instruction section — we identify Maddi’s dad, a lifelong golf swing tinkerer, as her direct target reader. Maddi shares that her on-course persona as a junior golfer wasn't always the kindest to herself; something many golfers continue to struggle with. 21 Mar 2023#062 - Doug Smith avoids the white mess01:06:43

Doug Smith is a golfer, podcaster, and broadcaster, who the Shrinks have been trying to get on the couch since season 1. In 2020, Bradford was searching for representation in golf media, and he found it in Doug — flowers are exchanged. Doug grew up in Lexington, Kentucky, and shares his experience as the only Black student at his high school. Golf came into Doug's life as a safe and nurturing space, providing connective tissue to other kids, and shaping his competitive edge. Now, when Doug gets out to the golf course, it's a calm respite from the nonstop action of raising his first child — he worries that junior golf is becoming unaffordable, and that he might not be able to provide that same space to his son.

05 Sep 2023#081 - Michael Block still can't believe it00:52:22

Michael Block is Head Golf Professional at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club, in Mission Viejo, California. In May, 2023, Michael lit the golf world on fire by finishing tied for 15th at the PGA Championship at Oak Hill. It was a storybook week for the 47-year-old: he was surrounded by media, he played his final round with Rory McIlroy, and made a hole-in-one on the 15th hole on Sunday. His PGA Championship success flooded him with PGA Tour sponsor’s exemptions, endorsement deals, private plane rides to events around the world. Despite being three months removed from his historic week, Michael still can't quite wrap his head around what happened, and the subsequent fame he's experienced — that will take time. Naturally, the Shrinks pressed Michael to unpack the quiet moments; what it all feels like when the dust finally settles.

27 Jul 2022#040 - This is the end.00:40:50

This session marks a bittersweet ending for Bradford, Drew, and Connor, as the shutters close on season 2 of Group Golf Therapy. The Shrinks spend some time reflecting on the illustrious and not-so-illustrious guests to have graced the couch over the past 20 sessions. But where one chapter concludes, another commences: the Shrinks will spend the next several weeks tinkering, sitting down to build season 3, and readying the release of a few entirely new ways to connect with Group Golf Therapy.

Jacques came to the GGT couch with loads of opinions on the state of fashion in professional golf, how sneaker culture can bring more people to the golf course, and how learning Spanish is helping him get ready for his next round.

In this session: what shoe silhouettes should be brought to golf, sweet potato biscuits, safe words.

You know him as Jamie Tartt, you love him as Phil Dunster. Phil is an actor from Northampton, England, who joins the Group Golf Therapy couch from the city of Bristol, where his drama school alma mater is located. Phil is a new golfer, and uses sport as a means of healthy escape and connecting more deeply with friends. The Shrinks are *jazzed* to follow Phil’s golf journey, and were touched by his willingness to talk about the mental health of it all — particularly, how to find self-worth and identity when you don’t have work to fall back on.

11 Apr 2023#065 - Leo Long taught Rory McIlroy something01:00:34

Lennard Long — or, Sweet Swing Leo, in this session — is a DC-based golfer, First Tee coach, Morehouse College grad, and 2022 Wells Fargo Championship pro-am participant. That's exactly where the Shrinks met Leo: to help cover his and his fellow First Tee mentors' experience playing a round of golf with Rory McIlroy. Leo is much more than his already impressive C.V.: he's driven, hungry, deeply thoughtful, caring, and passionate about using his experiences to inspire a new generation of golfers. This conversation is reflective, but Leo is clearly focused on what's next. Bradford, Connor, and Drew will be meeting up with Leo again at the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship in May, so stay tuned for the videos and podcasts to come via the SKRATCH channels.

In this session: mentoring your mentors, enjoying solitude, Obedience.

Daniel Augustus (full name in session title) is a Bermudian professional golfer on the APGA Tour. He has a widely covered childhood story — it's an emotional one. But through hardship, Daniel pushed forward: he found golf and put every ounce of himself into becoming a professional athlete. More importantly, he worked therapy into his life to address the scar tissue left from his childhood, and now is committed to self care and personal validation.

03 Jan 2023#057 - Kareem Rahma has never seen his therapist00:58:39

Kareem Rahma is a lot of things. He's a standup comedian, a podcaster, a documentarian, and is the host of a buzzing new TikTok show, Keep the Meter Running. He's also a naturally-gifted, mostly-irregular golfer, who joined the Shrinks for a lively conversation about New York City, therapy, and making fun of your friends.  Weekly phone calls with his therapist are taken during long walks around his neighborhood; a  relationship that inspired a podcast concept, Walks of Life, which features one-sided confessionals from young people around the country. Kareem is deeply funny — and insightful, inquisitive, thoughtful.

In this session: running amok, fake lawyers, a good ol’ Pimento Cheese slagging.

06 Jul 2021#001 - Dosas and Samosas with Maya Reddy01:05:44

#01. Maya has been to ComiCon 12 years in a row. She is also a queer South Asian former professional golfer, LGBTQ+ athlete activist, and founder of the Queer Asian Social Club. At Claremont McKenna College, Maya was a three-time NCAA All American, then in 2015 turned professional and played on the Cactus and National Women’s Golf Association Tours and gained status on the Symetra Tour before having to take a step back from the sport due to its exclusive culture and the many harmful bigoted experiences she endured, as a result of that culture – experiences only deepened by the lack of visibility of queer athletes in the sport. However, Maya focused her pain in fighting for and becoming an advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusive policies in sports, working closely with organizations like Athlete Ally. She shares with us her journey with therapy, with PTSD, and how she fell back in love with this game. We think Maya is amazing. We think you will too. #MindYourGolf

11 May 2023Bonus Hugs: Matthew Vital is going to Temple00:18:44

During a rain delay at the AJGA Will Lowery Junior Championship, Bradford and Connor stole 20 minutes with competitor, Matthew Vital. Matthew — along with his twin brother, Michael — recently committed to play his college golf at Temple University. He also recently signed on to the Eastside Golf NIL program, and copped a tournament victory at the Jim Thorpe Invitational in 2022. We spoke with Matthew about the pressures of playing golf at a high level, what he does to self-regulate during tournament time, and how food centers him with a busy travel schedule.

Season 4 of Group Golf Therapy is officially underway. If you're new to the show, thank you for joining! Bradford Wilson, Connor Laubenstein, and Drew Westphal are diehard golfers, and even fiercer advocates for hosting conversations about how golf makes people feel.  This season starts out with a bang: Chad Mumm joins the GGT couch, as the Executive Producer of the Netflix golf documentary, Full Swing. The series was just renewed for its second season, and we caught up with Chad from his hotel lobby at the PLAYERS Championship, where filming is already underway. Chad gives Bradford and Connor a peek behind the curtain on Full Swing: how much people-power it took to get the job done, and some interesting backstories on how certain players were featured on the show.  In this session: taking advantage of the moment, pushing your vision, Hanson. 05 Oct 2022#044 - Ben Boskovich is the Potato Chip King01:02:27
Ben Boskovich is coming back to golf with full force. After putting down his clubs in pursuit of his dream job — Deputy Editor at Esquire — in New York City, Ben has spent the past few years falling back in love with the game he grew up around. It started with sleepless nights; turning to visualizations of playing his childhood golf course to distract a clouded mind. Now, Ben is soaking up all that the new wave of golf has washed ashore: the fashion, the YouTube final round replays of vintage Tiger Woods victories, and most importantly, the new freedom to geek out over golf in public spaces with like-minded connections. Ben is eager to bring his editorial panache to golf more broadly, and he flexes those muscles on the GGT couch.  In this session: fat-assed neighbors, golf course pillow talk, the world's preeminent potato chip blogger. 29 Mar 2022#026 - Hannah Tenenbaum on being a new golfer in an era of inclusivity01:17:26

Hannah Tenenbaum is new to the game. She picked up golf the way many Americans did in the past couple years, during the pandemic, egged on by friends. But she's bringing her own style to golf, and showcasing her Poshmark, Depop, or otherwise thrifted clothing finds via her golf-focused Instagram account, Ginny le Golfeur.

Hannah tells the Shrinks about her experience as a new golfer, her recent journey with therapy, and—with inside knowledge, as the head of brand partnerships at Paradigm Talent Agency—how the golf industry can better represent creators, models, and influencers in the constantly evolving media landscape. We also have Hannah on the hook for our first-ever GGT guest music playlist. Stay tuned.

18 Apr 2023#066 - Brad Gehl is going to call you01:09:16

Brad Gehl is a former professional golfer, who recently began work in golf course construction alongside Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner. He’s also a devoutly creative person, who has started a nonprofit to feed skater kids, filmed a documentary in Ireland, and worked alongside Tom Sachs. Golf is firmly at Brad's core, having played from a young age with his family in Indiana — he learned quickly not to swear on the course in front of his mother. From PGA Tour Latinoamérica, to playing in China, to narrowly missing a shot at qualifying for a US Open, Brad is a competitor; but its his marriage of competition with a desire to help people that shows his true character.

16 May 2023#070 - PGA Tour player, Trey Mullinax, LIVE from the Wells Fargo Championship00:22:41

For the second year, the Shrinks were brought together to enjoy the scenes at the Wells Fargo Championship. On a long Wednesday — which included following a pro-am group with Rory McIlroy, walking with First Tee students-turned-caddies, and participating in a First Tee clinic — Bradford, Connor, and Drew grabbed a quick couch session with PGA TOUR player, Trey Mullinax. In addition to the week-in, week-out grind of the tour, Trey is a father, an entrepreneur, and a believer in community with his fellow competitors. The Shrinks and Trey sat down at the bustling Wells Fargo Small Business Market, so you’ll be joined by a lively crowd in this session — but that didn’t stop Trey from opening up about life on the road, and chasing his dream.

In this session: Honoring the 12 year-old, new shoes, Fast Car.

After a pandemic-induced 18 months travel break, Tom and the band hit the US for a nationwide tour. He caught up with the GGT shrinks from his tour bus in Omaha, Nebraska. Loads covered in this session: learning to cope with negativity on the golf course, being a new parent while on the road, and playing golf in memory of family. Are you in the market for a new golf ball? Why don't you check out our friends at Uncommon Golf. 15 Mar 2022#024 - The Shrinks reflect on the past few months00:43:06

Bradford, Connor, and Drew took some time off between season 1 and 2, to make space for life changes and swing changes, and the Shrinks unpack the triumphs and challenges faced during that break. In this session: finding comfort in chaos, creating your dream job, burning the forest to see what grows back, going to the moon. We are proud to release this session exactly one year after the Group Golf Therapy group text was born—and we are overwhelmed by all of your support in our pursuit of normalizing discussions about how golf makes us feel. We thank you and love you for listening. Hit 'em straight. Mind your golf.

22 Mar 2022#025 - Adam Granduciel from The War On Drugs 00:54:25

Adam Granduciel is frontman of The War On Drugs, and the Shrinks caught up with him in between stints on a global tour for the band's new album, I Don't Live Here Anymore. Adam got into golf the same way Connor did: caddying as a teenager outside Boston. The pandemic brought him back to the game with fervor, and now he's circling off-days during tour to break out the sticks. He even dropped a golf lyric into the new album. Adam shares culinary delicacies on tour, balancing music with a young family, and a unique favorite golf smell for GGT. Hit 'em straight. Mind your golf.

13 Sep 2022#041 - Hailey Davidson isn't scared of bad press01:08:22

Group Golf Therapy is officially back for season 3! Another chewy block of 20 sessions is coming to you, and we begin this batch with a timely one: professional golfer, Hailey Davidson. Hailey is the first trans woman to win a professional golf tournament in the US, but eking out a living on mini tours isn't easy — a reality she shares with us on the show. After posting 2-under par in her first round at Q-School this year, Hailey drew negative attention from conservative media regarding her identity as a trans woman fighting to earn LPGA Tour status. While articles in Fox News, The Daily Mail, and Breitbart painted an inaccurate and regressive account of Hailey's situation, she does believe they opened a door for her to share her story and experiences.

In this session: life on the mini tours, gender transition in professional golf, infecting others with positivity on the golf course.

29 Jul 2021#004 Christine Fraser is worthy of the praise01:11:23

If you've been following us for a bit, you'll know that Christine Fraser is more than just a guest. She's an icon. She's an advocate. She's an ally. She's our favorite golf course architect. Coolest story at the party aside, Christine seeks to make golf courses adaptive, inclusive, inviting, and sustainable for the next 50 years. Because, there's legitimate cause to worry that without those things, golf won't be around in 50 years. We unpack a few things in this session: namely, imposter syndrome, chasing perfection, and how she IS her product. Golf is better place with Christine in it. Period. Go to her website christinefraserdesign.com to learn more about the incredible work she is doing at the literal grassroots level of this game. #MindYourGolf

10 Jan 2023#058 - Abby Liebenthal hosts 50 golf events a year01:11:04

Abby Liebenthal has, like, so many full-time jobs. In addition to her 9-5 for the USGA, she heads up Fore the Ladies, one of the illest nonprofits in golf, which hosts introductory events and creates educational content designed to get more women and non-binary folks into the game. FTL is no joke: they hosted 50 events in 2022, and there’s no sign of slowing down. Abby shares about her experience in therapy, and works on receiving her well-due flowers for everything she’s working on in golf and in life. A true dynamo who should’ve graced the GGT Couch much, much sooner.

05 Dec 2023#094 - Dr. Joe Parent deals in the senses00:50:07
Dr. Joe Parent published Zen Golf in 2002, a book that is packed with East-meets-West philosophy of how to master the mental game in golf. The book was instantly endorsed by two of Dr. Joe’s students, Vijay Singh and Christie Kerr, who each became the number 1 ranked golfer in the world, and was a definitive guide for golfers at every level. Dr. Joe is a pioneer in the mental game conversation, and has since inspired work by many coaches to follow. What’s more, his gentle, calming spirit is infectious, and Bradford and Connor each leave this session having learned a bit more about their own sensory proclivities.  In this session: ageism, identifying your senses, BMW golf.  As always, thanks for listening to Group Golf Therapy! #mindyourgolf Please subscribe, rate our podcast, and leave a review—we're always looking to deliver a great show to you. 02 May 2023#068 - How golf saved Drew Millard's life00:50:53

Drew Millard returned to golf at a low-point: he was burned out from over-work, and golf gave him a new lens to negotiate his life through. A literary agent contacted him, asked if he’d consider writing a golf book, and off he went. Now, that book, How Golf Can Save Your Life, is a week out from release. This conversation is fully and beautifully unhinged.

11 Oct 2022#045 - Tom Coyne believes in ghosts 00:54:25

Plenty of swing changes and life changes have unfolded for Tom Coyne since he wrote A Course Called Ireland in 2009: he had kids, quit drinking, wrote two follow-up books detailing his journey-in-entirety of golf and relationships in Scotland and America along the way. A dream job — to walk from one bucket-list course to another, and getting to write about it — but it's work. Raising a family, and treating a cancer diagnosis this year have prompted Tom to spend more time around, yet the travel invariably stacks up. Tom opens up about his writing process, his path through sobriety, and why Scotland has the best golf in the world.

In this session: how America bred exclusive golf, Clubman Aftershave, an actual ghost story.

26 Sep 2023#084 - Jain Golf’s Chris Hovsepian took us to camp01:17:58

You may not have heard his name, you may not have seen his face, but you know his work. A year ago, Chris Hovsepian left his job in the music industry, where he worked with artists whose names and faces you are certainly familiar with. He had a weird idea — weird is good. The mission: create a cartoon world in which an anthropomorphic golf ball, Jain, shows us how golf should be: fun, diverse, interesting. Jain has become a mascot for golf, shelling out pithy, colorful expressions that every golfer can relate to. Chris has big visions for what Jain can become, and the Shrinks hear it all, while learning more about what inspired golf’s new favorite character.

Milos Bogetic has a wife and two young kids, he has a job at Chick-fil-A, he has a budding golf addiction. He also has a diagnosis of likely-terminal esophageal cancer. For the past six years, Milos has been battling a disease that doctors said would take his life in five. He keeps fighting. But with new test results showing increased severity, Milos is preparing for another lengthy treatment process. Before he restarts chemotherapy in two weeks, Milos is on a mission to soak up as many golf experiences as possible: he checked in with the Shrinks directly from Pinehurst, ahead of a mammoth week of bucket list golf.

21 Sep 2021#012 Lydia Ko. That's it. That's the title.00:45:37
The GGT boys were blessed with Lydia Ko's presence on the couch this week. Lydia Ko was ranked world no. 1 at age 17, 9 months, and 9 days - the youngest no. 1 ranked golfer of any gender ever. She is a 2-time Olympic medalist, a 16-time LPGA Tour winner, all at the age of 24. Lydia takes some time from her busy schedule to talk about her mom's cooking, her friends and Tour family, and how her performance coach, Sean Foley, and his musical tastes can be a powerful motivator. 13 Jun 2023#074 - Rachel Drake is an artist.00:57:02
Rachel Drake is an abstract golf artist — her commissioned golf paintings hang in homes of bucket-list trippers and daughters of major champions. Her journey to becoming an artist, though, and becoming a mother, was born from a stretch of unimaginable grief. One certainty is learned from this conversation with Rachel: when presented with loss, she has the unmistakable knack of creating. Rachel went to the golf course — alone — in 2020, to find solitude. It took. Now, her golf art accounts for a majority of her business; and she can paint Pebble Beach's 7th hole with her eyes closed (next step is seeing it in person). 27 Sep 2022#043 - Rabbi Marc is an identity thief00:56:25

Is it a coincidence that we release this session with an ordained rabbi the morning after Rosh Hashanah? Absolutely. Also, Rabbi Marc isn't ordained — he isn't a rabbi at all (don't worry though, he is Jewish). Instead, Ben Something from southern California went on eBay early in the pandemic to buy a used golf bag to feed his budding golf interest; the leather staff bag he purchased arrived at his door, and upon opening the box saw "Rabbi Marc Gellman" emblazoned across the front in slightly-faded stitching. Thus, Rabbi Marc was born. Marc/Ben has been a day-one supporter of Group Golf Therapy, and it felt only right to bring him onto the couch for a chat. Three shrinks and a rabbi walk into a recording studio... you finish the joke.

In this session: identity theft, compassionate golf, being a "setter".

14 Jul 2022#039 - LaJethro Jenkins is going to disappear 01:09:21

John Nichols owes a lot to golf, and to Bradford. The two became pandy golf buddies, and now the basketball media personality (otherwise known as LaJethro Jenkins) is fully hooked on finding meaning on the course. John's also a new father, and it's instantly evident how much family means to him. John is on a mission to break away from his phone, something that both golf and fatherhood are drilling into him. Believe us: when John gets paid, LaJethro is going to disappear.

In this session: parenthood, being present, tears.

01 Nov 2022#048 - Sadena Parks loves cantaloupe 01:07:21

Sadena Parks is undeniably, unabashedly herself. It's something she challenged herself with during her professional golf hiatus: to walk into every room unafraid to be herself. Now she's back in competition mode — on June 2, she won THE JOHN SHIPPEN National Golf Invitational — and is making another run toward the LPGA. But this time around, her inner child is calling some of the shots, cartwheels and NERF guns very much included.

If you’ve listened to Group Golf Therapy in the past year, you’ll know that one of our few podcast partners is Red Rooster: they make our favorite golf gloves. They bring one of our favorite Meat & Potatoes segment to you, in Get a Grip. And, ultimately, the team behind the Red Rooster brand are great people. To celebrate one year of podcast marriage, GGT and Red Rooster linked up to create a glove that will act as the safe space for your hand. It’s called The Shrink. And it rules. This session is joined by Red Rooster founders, Kerry and Brad — two Brad’s on one pod. Electric.  Here’s the rub: go to redroostergolf.com/collections/mens/products/ggt and grab a Shrink. Right now. 22 Nov 2022#051 - Casey Bannon has unbelievable feet01:10:52

Casey Bannon is a golf storyteller: he holds down the editorial wing at The Golfer's Journal, and really wants to run a piece about Robert Garrigus' weed farm. Casey also wears two pairs of socks at once, and is developing queues that help him stay present in an increasingly noisy world. The Shrinks brought Casey on the couch to discuss the mystique of good golf events, The Plateau Effect, and as the session title would suggest, Casey's SWEET FEET.

In this session: GoT dream foursomes, Big Tootsie, is golf food garbage?

31 Oct 2023#089 - Ryan Barath is communicating with the past01:17:02

When Ryan Barath was 13, he saw an interview where Phil Mickelson described a modulation he made to his 60-degree wedge, to make it better fit the golf course he was competing at that week. Ryan’s jaw hit the floor: “you can tinker with golf clubs?!” That immediately inspired a career path as a golf club fitter, builder, and writer focused on the many intricacies of golf equipment. Golf wasn’t always a constant for Ryan, though — one afternoon at his local muni, he decided to walk off the course. Now that he’s back, he’s engaging with the game on a deeper, more spiritual and emotionally vulnerable level.

Aaron Chewning has been chewning out comedy content since the days of Internet yore (Vine). But his recent venture, St. André — an ode to Atlanta co-inhabitant, André 3000 — has its phasers set to stun the golf world. The Shrinks set aside the first 20 minutes of this session to shower Aaron with compliments for his and his team's work on St. André: it's some of the only golf content the Shrinks happily share with each other in the panoptic Shrinks Chat. Go watch for yourselves, but St. André's work is funny, it's socially responsible, it says all the right things. Moreover, Aaron is a delight, who is bound for even greater acclaim within the Golf-Creative-Landscape.

Richard Johnson is a leading expert in all things SEC football. Born in Gainesville, Florida, RJ knew from day one that he wanted to work in sports media, preferably covering his beloved Gators. Well, he accomplished that mission rather quickly, and now makes regular national television appearances on the SEC Network, is a staff writer at Sports Illustrated, and hosts several podcasts of his own. In the pandemic, Richard took to golf with obsessive vigor, and has even taken to writing a few pieces about the sport.

To celebrate the cultural moment for golf, the Shrinks decided to hop on the microphones to share their near-live reactions to the series, joined by Esquire contributor and GGT season 3 alumnus, Ben Boskovich. Ben profiled the Full Swing documentary on Esquire, which you can read here: https://www.esquire.com/sports/a42883602/full-swing-netflix-review/

In this session: broken hearts for Brooks, Golf Sickos, is the Pope catholic?

20 Apr 2022#029 - Connor went to The Masters01:14:29

Two weeks ago, Connor took the trip of a lifetime: a pilgrimage to golf's pantheon, Augusta National, for the 2022 Masters. He responds to some hard-hitting listener questions about the experience: favorite smells, sandwich rankings, painted grass, and much more. Connor went to Augusta as a kid, brought along by a father figure in his life—something we unpack in the show.

But first! Bradford gives us the rundown of his own experience with his dad on a shoot with a prominent athletic brand.

25 Oct 2022#047 - Lawrence Schlossman and Cole Young: Notes on the Etymology of Jawns00:54:25

Lawrence Schlossman is one half of the fashion empire, Throwing Fits. Cole Owens-Young needs no introduction; he runs Metalwood Studio, and his name has been dropped on nearly every MF GGT podcast to date. We brought these two sartorial wündermen onto the couch to unpack the ramp-up of golfcore: the catalysts and spark plugs responsible for golf fashion's reinvention.

In this session: where "jawns" comes from, why skate and golf collide, Cole is a frog boy.
