He also shares how he sees “no” and “why” reflected in the Psalms, as the writers experienced orientation and disorientation, before then finding a new orientation.

None of the people who were closest to Jesus really understood who he was or what he was trying to do. And yet, we have the opportunity to join in on the work of bringing about the kingdom of God in our world. Today, lead pastor Josh Scott examines the times in Mark when people failed to understand what Jesus was doing. He also reminds us that part of following Jesus is about allowing ourselves to constantly be renewed and transformed, staying open to the possibility that we might be wrong and accepting the fact that we’re never done learning.

Today, lead pastor Josh Scott examines some of the stories about unclean spirits in the book of Mark and explains how those stories reflect the oppression people were experiencing under the Roman Empire. He also challenges us to treat oppression in our world the same way Jesus treated those unclean spirits: calling out the problems we see and fighting to change them rather than blaming the oppressed.

Today, Kat Armas reflects on some of the things we tend to miss when thinking about the Christmas story: Mary’s identity as a marginalized woman, the realities of pregnancy and childbirth, and the truths that Mary boldly proclaimed about God and God’s plans for those living under empire.
