This week, Tina is joined by the always funny and entertaining Nurse Jessica Sites. Together they bring you the story of nurse, Rhonda Orr. Rhonda Orr met her husband Jimmy online in 1998. Jimmy’s parents paid for Rhonda to go to nursing school. By 2003, their marriage was falling apart, but they continued to live in the same house while Rhonda was finished school. One morning, Rhonda awoke and ran to the neighbor’s house screaming for help, saying her house was on fire and her husband was trapped inside. This week Tina is joined by Michael with the Real Talk School of Nursing podcast. Together they tell the story of the Heaven's Gate cult. This group was started by a nurse and her boyfriend in the 1970s. They close the show with the inspirational story of the first male military nurse who also happened to be Black.

They close the show with a wonderfully endearing story about a retired nurse who collected all sorts of different medicine caps and made a beautiful work of art.

18 Dec 2021Good Robot Nurse Bad Patient Nurse00:56:48

This week Tina is once again joined by Tom with Just Some Podcast for Advanced Practitioners. Together, they tell you the tragic story of a shooting that took place at a plastic surgeon's office in 1997. On July 3, 1997, Dr. Michael Tavis and his office manager Kay Carter were gunned down in cold blood when they arrived to work that morning. Investigators would have to sift through multiple patients who had sued Dr. Tavis for negligence and malpractice in order to find the person who committed this heinous crime.

They close the show with a first on Good Nurse Bad Nurse...a robot nurse. Before you get too upset about how that sounds, the company has no intention of replacing humans with robots, but it does seem to offer some relief to overworked nurses and understaffed units.

This week Tina is joined by Nurse Allie, a nurse influencer from Instagram and YouTube. Together, they bring you a compilation of disturbing stories involving corrections nurses. What happens when a nurse in a correctional facility abandons this principle and doesn’t provide adequate care?

For the good nurse story, they discuss another registered nurse who is currently serving our nation as a United States Congresswoman, Lauren Underwood.

Content Advisory Warning: This episode contains disturbing content involving violence against women and infants. Listener discretion is strongly advised.

Tom and Ben from the Will Continue to Monitor podcast are back in the studio to co-host this week's episode! On this episode, we analyze the abhorrent actions of Dr. Kermit Gosnell. As always, we like end on a lighter note with a "Good Nurse" story to showcase the positivity in healthcare. This episode highlights the selfless actions of a nurse practitioner who donated a kidney to save a patient's life.

Content Advisory Warning: This episode contains graphic depictions of violence. Listener discretion is advised.

Dr. Raj Sundar from the podcast Healthcare for Humans joins us as the guest host of this week's episode! When Jim and Sandra Melgar's romantic evening at home concluded with murder, investigators questioned if it was truly a home invasion or if the murderer was a little closer to home. Our "Good Nurse" segment focuses on Dr. Raj and his mission to learn about culturally diverse communities and how understanding a patient's worldview can help healthcare workers provide better care.

19 Apr 2023Good Nurse Polly Bailey Bad Nurse Eyvette Hunter01:03:15

Welcome back for a special episode of Good Nurse Bad Nurse! We are excited to announce that we are uniting forces with a series of podcasters for a podcrawl with a focus on delirium. This week we are joined by Kali Dayton, nurse practitioner and host of Walking Home from the ICU podcast. We tackle the story of nurse Eyvette Hunter. When a request to sedate a distressed, elderly patient was denied, nurse Hunter allegedly took matters into her own hands and administered a sedative medication. Nurse Hunter is facing the legal consequences of her alleged actions. Nurse Kali takes the reigns to share our Good Nurse story regarding nurse Polly Bailey. Nurse Bailey has improved the quality of care and life for patients in the ICU by demonstrating that early activity is feasible and safe in respiratory failure patients.

26 Mar 2021Good Dermatologist Bad HIV Doctor00:54:01

This week, Tina is joined by Tom and Ben from the Just Some Podcast for Advanced Practice Nurses podcast. Together, they tell the story of Dr. Richard Schmidt. This is a story that was featured on an episode of Forensic Files. Back in the early nineties, Schmidt developed a relationship with Janice Trahan, a nurse at the hospital where he worked. The problem was both of them were married. They both agreed to leave their respective spouses. Janice followed through with that plan, but Schmidt did not. He wanted to continue the relationship with her, but Janice decided to break things off. This set in motion a series of events that no one could have possibly predicted. They close the show with one of the most heartwarming stories ever talked about on the show. The good doctors are dermatologists who helped a young boy after he was mauled by a German Shepherd while saving his little sister.

On this episode of Good Nurse Bad Nurse, Tina and guest host Dr. Annie DePasquale discuss the fascinating story of Ferdinand Demara. If you're a nurse practitioner, you'll definitely want to stick around for our "Good Nurse" segment! We're featuring Dr. Annie, the founder of the company Collaborating Docs. Dr. Annie shares her own experiences working with nurse practitioners and the importance of collaboration between different healthcare professionals, which became the basis for her company.

18 Sep 2021Good Nurse Papa Bad Nurse Stephanie Stephens01:28:30

This week Tina is joined by David Metzger of the Nurse Papa podcast. Together, they tell the disturbing story of a nurse determined to marry a doctor... even if he was already married to someone else. Dr. David Stephens brought cardiothoracic surgery to the state of Mississippi. He was well respected and revered until the decision to get involved with the nurse who worked for him would change his life forever.

They close the show with a spotlight on David to celebrate the release of the Nurse Papa book. You will definitely want to stick around to the end if you want to hear Tina blubbering like a baby when they get to talking about the patients David has cared for. You will also want to make sure to listen to the very end to hear the first chapter of the book.

13 Aug 2020Good Bedside Nurse Bad Nurse Assistant00:28:18

Kiki is back once again to co-host with Tina. Together they tell the incredibly disturbing story of Cathy Wood and Gwendolyn Graham. Cathy and Gwendolyn were two nurse techs who had some horrific games they liked to play together that involved the elderly patients they were supposed to be caring for at the the nursing home where they worked together. They close the show with a different kind of good nurse story. Our good nurse this week had the courage to stand up to a patient who requested to not have a black nurse caring for her. Teoka Williams was working as a bedside nurse when a patient complained about having a black nurse. When Ms. Williams complained about the incident she was reassigned to a different patient and was told the patient had the right to refuse care for whatever reason.

13 Nov 2021Good Congresswoman Nurse Bad Urologist Ingolf Tuerk00:44:24

This week Tina is joined by Mark, her better half and head of all things IT for Good Nurse Bad Nurse. Together they tell the story of Dr. Infgolf Tuerk. A renowned urologist from Brighton, Massachusetts. For years, Tuerk was recognized for his contributions to medicine, worked as the chief of urology, was featured in videos and billboards promoting the hospital, and was loved by all his patients. But it all started to unravel in 2019 when he was investigated for Medicare fraud and fired from the hospital. As he began to spiral downward, his wife took the brunt of his rage and instability which ultimately led to a horrible tragedy.

For the good nurse story, they talk about one of three US Congresswomen serving currently who are nurses. Congresswoman Cori Bush was elected in 2020 to serve Missouri’s 1st Congressional district. She is the first Black woman and first nurse to represent Missouri and the first woman to represent Missouri’s 1st Congressional District. She received a nursing degree from Lutheran University of Nursing in 2019 and spent the next decade serving the community as a nurse, ordained pastor, community organizer, and childcare worker.

In this week's episode, we welcome back the incredible Nurse Blake. We couldn't be more excited to have him join us again as our guest host! 14 Jun 2023Good Music Therapist Bad Foster Care Nurse00:52:15

Content Advisory Warning: The following episode contains disturbing material pertaining to violence against children and animals. Listener discretion is advised.

Alejandra, a musical therapist, joins us this week as our guest host! We're tackling a story with darker themes that may not be suitable for all listeners. Susan Blouin, a registered nurse, and her husband Ray were considered pillars of their community for selflessly opening their doors to many children in the foster care system. The Blouins, however, fostered anything but hope and love in their house of horrors.

As always, we like to end on a lighter note by recognizing a person who exemplifies the good that is happening in the medical community. We're highlighting Alejandra as part of our "Good Nurse" segment for her music therapy work with NICU babies! Check out Alejandra's Fundraiser for NICU Babies!
