In season 3 of Netflix's You, everyone's favorite problematic lover boy, Joe, has finally settled down into marital bliss with Love. Not all is perfect in this cookie-cutter, little boxes town as Joe and Love’s relationship begins a sharp decline. Turns out that staying together for a baby and because you know each other’s murderous secrets isn’t enough to keep a relationship afloat. Gabe delights at the hilarious season that pokes fun at the characters and fans of the series. Kat explains how Joe and Love embody the phrase “our trauma is not our fault, but it is our personal responsibility to heal from it when we become adults”.

If you've ever lost someone and wished you could talk to them again - there's an app for that! Today we talk about the pains of losing someone and how tech can be used to cope with grief. We watched the Black Mirror's Be Right Back and the awful film, A.M.I

Ghouls are talking about the aquatic creature feature, Underwater. Gabe dives into the horrors of being trapped underwater where the environment wants to kill you. She also discusses the dystopian, villainous company that awakens the beasts below. Kat shares their fears of the ocean and tells us about all the monstrous fish just waiting to kill you.

His House is a film that focuses on a couple from war-torn South Sudan, and their journey to England. It is a phenomenal work of social horror that encompasses the empathetic power of the genre. In it, we can find fear but not of the things that go bump in the night, the monsters hiding in the shadows but rather the darkness that dwells within our own hearts.

The Ghouls continue their dive into the great minds of Horror Writers, this week tackling the vampire goddess, Anne Rice. Anne has had an incredible effect on vampire lore and literature. Her life history has greatly impacted her work and the evolution of it. The Ghouls discuss Interview With the Vampire, Queen of the Damned (RIP Aaliyah) and have some fun with Anne's erotic literature too. 

HBO's Watchmen takes on a new approach to the classic vigilante comic book by tackling the vast and insidious white supremacy within our country. Ghouls discuss generational pain, reparations and how you can't fix the system from the inside or from under a mask.

On Episode 37, the weather outside is frightful and it causes many deaths. What fun! The Ghouls are talking about the strange deaths of the ski-hikers on Dyatlov Pass aka Death Mountain and the unfortunate tale of the Donner Party. Ghouls take a much-needed mental and emotional break from heavy topics to have some fun talking about a favorite film of theirs, The One I love. The Ghouls talk about what they *think* is going on in this film and Gabe swoons over Mark Duplass.

Thelma (2017) is a Norwegian film about a young woman discovering herself, her sexuality, and breaking away from her oppressive religious parents. Oh, and she also has psychokinetic powers and may also be a villain? Ghouls discuss this Carrie/Raw/XMen-like queer film and open up about their own queer journeys.

The Paranormal Activity franchise holds a special place in the Ghouls' hearts. The first film revived the Found Footage sub-genre (Gabe's favorite) and the films often promised creative jump scares and a slow burn. However, in trying to expand the universe the films began answering questions we never asked while never addressing plot holes or questions we did have.

On Episode #23, we talk Home Invasion! The ghouls just moved into a new home and thought it’d be super fun to talk about Home Invasions! Because we’re sadists that hate to feel safe! Woohoo. We give the low down on some real life home invasion stories that have inspired films such as the Manson Family murders and the Keddie Murders. Kat gives some information on how to stay safe in a home invasion thanks to Wiki-How and we also learn some super intelligent tips from "Gabie-How." What's the deal with men not bringing their ladies with them when they go to investigate?! Who's gonna have your six, James!?

The Ghouls re-watch one of their faves, The Strangers and a french film that is incredibly similar, Them (Ils). They also get hype about the film, You're Next and revel in female empowerment. Go team doomsday preppers!

The Deep House follows a youtube couple who is known for exploring abandoned, creepy, and “haunted” places. They find themselves underwater, exploring an incredibly creepy house. Several red flags and warnings later, they become trapped. A fun found-footage-y film that triggered some of the Ghoul's fears (claustrophobia and underwater) but doesn't quite make it to our favorites list. Gabe has many questions and shares details on how this unique film was made. Kat talks about the real horrors of sunken cities that we are missing in this film.

The 2020 retelling of the classic horror tale, The Invisible Man takes on a new approach that tackles the residual pain from domestic abuse. The Ghouls discussing some of the amazing filming techniques that make for a suffocating and voyeuristic film but also dive into the failures of the film, like regurgitating tired horror tropes.

Longlegs is a psychological thriller about a supernatural satanic panic killer, who murders without ever touching his victims. From twisted coming-of-age stories to the sinister use of dolls as instruments of control, we examine the cultural obsession with preserving and corrupting girlhood through fear, trauma, and moral panic. The Ghouls are making their realities virtual this week for their 2020 Future Technology Series! We're talking about VR, AR, XR, WhateverR and how it can help take us away to new worlds while also helping us get over fears. We also discuss how Virtual Reality horror video games are just that much more terrifyingly fun! We watched Black Mirror's Striking Vipers and Playtest.

The Platform is an unsubtle and disgusting film that confronts our acceptance of our toxic and abusive systems of power. It addresses in a terribly unsubtle way the false promises of trickle-down economics. And more importantly, leaves us with a hope for the future, one in which the children of tomorrow can break the system.

Suspiria (2018) is a haunting exploration of power, control, and the horrors of fascism, set against the backdrop of Cold War-era Berlin in 1977. Gabe discusses the differences in the two films, unpacks the themes of facism and guilt, as well as defines the three mothers and their role in Argento's world. Kat gives us a history lesson to understand the setting of this Suspiria and the motivation for the coven, dancers, and the psychologist.

Fallout is an ambitious, gore-filled, comedic adaptation of the popular post-apocalyptic video game franchise. What Fallout and our world have in common is endless human suffering, a hatred for communism, manipulative and controlling governments, and war, which never changes.

Gabe compares the two worlds and histories. And they dive into all the horrifying experiments of VaultTec. Kat tells us what to do in the event of a nuclear war, where is the safest place to be during a nuclear attack, and if the rich are already building VaultTec-like bunkers in anticipation of a coming war.

On Episode #15, Gabe and Kat are joined by the marvelous hosts of one of their favorite podcasts, The Micheaux Mission. Len and Vince educate the ghouls on what constitutes a black film and dig into why black characters always die first. We watched Dr. Black and Mr Hyde which is about a subtle as you can imagine a film of this title to be, explored the Blaxploitation movement and made some discoveries about LL Cool J. The horrors of the incarceration system are so robust and complex that there’s truly no one answer the problem. There is no end to what we could cover in this episode. The Ghouls are trying their hand at the Occult. What is it? Who's involved? How does media represent it and why does it feel like an answer?

We watched The Endless and A Dark Song to explore different approaches to this very deep and provocative topic. 

For the New Year, New Me series, on episode 43, the Ghouls (definitely them and their identity shouldn't be questioned) have dived deep into male puberty and the monstrous man. They're talking about the differences between monstrous men and monstrous women, discussed earlier in the month. How are men potrayed when they go through their bodily changes? Why are they usually goddamn heroes? Didn't you want to be a werwolf? The Ghouls watched I Was a Teenage Werewolf and the Eli Roth show, Hemlock Grove to explore this topic.

We're here to reveal the horror of society. The Ghouls talk about classism, what is it and why it is a real terror here in America. We dive deep into the work of Bong Joon-Ho to explore classism in the media, with Snowpiercer and Parasite. 

Ghouls are starting a series on Ecological Horror. This week we're talking apocalypse video game series, the Last of Us. Kat discusses how in this game world, you are given characters that aren’t heroes, who have spent their time in the apocalypse as brutal as anyone else and make decisions that are incredibly human. Gabe also explains her fear of mushrooms and the very real parasite that inspired the monsters in the game.

The internet can be a scary place and on today's episode the Ghouls discuss why you should be far more afraid than you are! We also take a trip down memory lane and disclose our AIM Screennames. We watched The Net and Pulse (2006, USA) to get to the bottom of our web-based fears. 

It Follows is a unique, dwelling horror film that delves into the abrupt loss of innocence after an assault. While it can be seen as a cautionary tale about STIs, its themes run much deeper. Gabe talks about MC Jay's loss of innocence, reflects on the lingering monster of trauma, and deconstructs the myth that this is a film about an STI demon. Kat talks about the meaning of the monster, the importance of support systems after a traumatic event, and how the film's absentee parents solidify this as a millennial film.

Sion Sono's Tag (2015) is a gore-filled, insane mind-bending trip through fan service, the male gaze, and the queer identity. Gabe talks about subverting horror tropes to make a statement and yuri love. Kat talks about the oppression of LGBTQIA+ folx in Japan.

Assassination Nation is a bloody, intense thriller that mirrors a modern-day witch hunt, tackling head-on the chaos and hysteria fueled by sexism, social media, and toxic American ideals. The Ghouls unpack some of the themes addressed in the film as well as confront the issue of the way the film is packaged.

We are closing out our Isolation series with Space Isolation. The Ghouls discuss what happens to you and your body in space, why it's hella dangerous and why no one should ever put Gabe in space. We watched Gravity and the short animated film, Helping Hand - part of the Love, Death and Robots Netflix series.

On Episode 6, Kat and I talk with our good friend and fellow gamer, Jeff! We talk horror video games like Silent Hill and Resident Evil while also forcing Jeff to hang out with us by bribing him with video game play. We watched as Jeff made some terribly stressful decisions in Until Dawn and will probably continue to play after this. Can he save all these terrible children from dying? And more importantly, does he want to?

Swarm is an exploration of the mentally damaging toll obsession and fandom can have on a person. More than that though, it is ultimately a story about the human need for connection and acceptance. Gabe discusses the series' creative approach to an unreliable narrator we're all rooting for. Kat explains the human brain's need for connection and community.

Ghouls are discussing haunted people, more specifically how grief, isolation, and abandonment can haunt us. We cover The Others (2001) and A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) to explore how these films explore these ghosts. For both of these films, the horror is simply not knowing the extent to which our own minds will mend and twist reality so that we may, in some form, survive. Kat expands on all the stages of Grief (more than you know), how to manage it, the ghosts it creates, and remember to feel your feels.

Ghouls explore the film, Lyle. This film is ripe with feminism, motherhood, and conspiracies. With some similarities to Rosemary's Baby, the Ghouls were bound to enjoy it but who knew they'd like it so much more! Do you know who to trust?

The Alien Franchise is what we like to refer to as Listen-to-Women the film because if only any of the other characters did just that, we'd avoid this sticky, acid, chest-bursting mess. Ghouls are talking about the entire Alien franchise (sans AVP, already covered in our Predator episode), yes even Alien^3. Why won't they let Ripley die?

On Episode #20, we bring it back down a level and give you a glimpse into our own fears. We weren't always the cool horror ghouls you know and love. Kat and Gabe discuss the top phobias in America and what movies can activate those for ya. Also, Gabe talks about the most important fear of all and how to cope.

With special guest appearances from the Moms Next Door! Michelle and Anna dish some dirt on tiny Gabe and Kat. We find out how some minor bad parenting can lead to some pretty cool adults.
